$1000-to-win Weekly Sportsman Event Highlights 2006 Action at Bridgeport

BRIDGEPORT, NJ (November 24, 2005) - Hot off the heels of a successful season at the Bridgeport Speedway, officials took the time over the Turkey Chase weekend to discuss and go over the 2006 rules and scheduling package. The current package not only introduced a new 358 Spec Small Block motor but bolstered the division with the opportunity to almost quadruple the current payout.

"We are very excited about the things that are going to happen next year at Bridgeport," Promoter Dave Adams stated early Wednesday morning. "We are taking a huge step in the right direction when it comes to cost vs. payout in certain divisions - while still maintaining the high level of competition and 'top notch' modified action in our premier Big Block Modified class ."

The 358 Spec Small Block (nicknamed "Crate 2"), which was tested in an actual racing environment last year, will see solo action; co-headlining Friday Night competition with the Limited Sprint Car Division (formerly the Jasper Sprint Cars). The 600cc Micro Sprints along with the 270cc Micro Sprints and 4-Cylinder Stock Cars will seek action on the 1/4 mile speedway from April 14th to September 1st, whereas Friday Night action on the 5/8 mile speedway will take place from May 26th to September 1st. The Champions in all Friday Night Divisions will be crowned on September 1st.

The 358 Spec Small Block boasts a $5,500 motor and options to increase performance include an open carburetor, open shock package, aluminum wheels and a 2400 lbs. weight minimum - while a $1,200 winners share will entice competitors to participate in the newly created division.

In Saturday Night action, a substantial Small Block Modified bonus will be awarded to the highest finishing Small Block in each Big Block Modified feature event. The GM Crate Sportsman will make the move to Saturday Night and the Outlaw Stocks will remain in their current time slot.

The most significant change will be to the current Sportsman division. Re-dubbed "358 Small Blocks," competitors in the Friday Night Spec Small block class will be given the opportunity to compete against the current Sportsman on Saturday -- while both classes maintain their normal rules packages. In an added twist, events in the newly re-named "358 Small Blocks" will see the winner's portion boosted to $1000 - making it the highest paying Sportsman win in the area.

"We want to give these guys the opportunity to race for some decent money," Track Owner Jay James stated. "The guys purchasing our 358 Crate 2 Small Block will be given the opportunity to race for $2200 over the course of a weekend, without making the unnecessary tire, wheel, shock and carburetor changes - and at the same time, those that were our Sportsman competitors will receive a 25% winners payout increase."

Bridgeport fully supports the investigation of decreasing cost in the racing community; however we have made a promise to our fans to maintain a superior level in the Big Block Modified division.

"We want to keep our Modifieds in the top level of competition without hindering speed," Track Owner Jay James explained. "The idea to keep costs down has been the primary concern for us since we started here, which is why we've looked to economical motors to do that, but the costs necessary to reduce the weight of a Big Block Modified are un-reachable to many low budget teams - and the thought of adding weight to the open Big Block Motors is detrimental to the speed that attracts fans to the Bridgeport Speedway."

Similar to 2005, various touring series' including the URC Sprint Cars will be brought in to highlight 2006 racing activities.

For more information pertaining the 358 Spec Small Block motor please contact the Speedway Office at 856-467-4408, rules packages for all divisions will be available online at www.thenewbridgeportspeedway.com in the upcoming weeks.

Pratt Victorious At Bridgeport; Johnson Crowned '05 Mr. DIRT 358 Champ

By Tom Skibinski, DIRT MotorSports PR

Bridgeport, NJ - November 12, 2005 - It wasn't necessarily changing of the guard Saturday night at Bridgeport Speedway, but it felt like the torch had been temporarily passed on as open-wheel upstart Richie Pratt, Jr. captured his first-ever 358-Modified Super DIRT Series victory while veteran Alan Johnson garnered the overall Hoosier Tire-Sunoco Race Fuels Mr. DIRT 358-Modified points championship for the fourth time in his distinguished career.

And it was outlasting the night's fast time trialer and DIRT MotorSport NorthEast's all-time winningest Modified driver Brett Hearn that seemed to count most for second-generation pilot Pratt as he celebrated his $7,500 first-place prize with a cartwheel and a series of rolls in the moist front straightaway clay following the biggest victory of his life.

"It's just unbelievable, when you pass that number four car and can get a win," said Pratt, referring to besting Hearn's stellar Four Star Transmission ride and still puffing after his homestretch performance that appeared to warm up even the most chilled crowd of fans as opening day concluded during Atlantic Coast Championship Weekend at the spacious Garden State speedplant. "These (series) guys have been whooping my ass all year long and I finally got one back. Next year I definitely want a big-block ride and right now I can't help but think I really deserve it."

Pratt started third in the 26-car field of the area's top small-block chauffeurs and forged the 11th and final lead change at the halfway mark of the 100-lap tour finale as he charged by Hearn on a lap 50 restart. Steering his potent no. 10x Lipinski Snow Services-Union Auto Glass/Bicknell entry for the distance, the Sewell, N.J. driver was only slowed by one caution flag over the remainder of the distance before opening up a 5.2-second victory over runner-up Dale Planck at the checkers.

"I didn't really know how good the car was in the beginning but I just kept pushing it harder and harder as the race went on. It turned out to be pretty good in turns one and two but not as good between three and four. The lapped cars really hurt me out there so I had my hands full all night even when I got a big lead," added Pratt, who was recently crowned Bridgeport's DIRT 358-Modified points champion following three Friday night wins posted during the regular season. He also scored eight Sportsman victories in Bridgeport's Saturday shows.

Big-block Modified mainstay Tim Fuller won the third and final heat and among the top-14 qualifiers drew the pole to start the small-block century grind. The Edwards, N.Y. traveler immediately dropped to third as the initial green flag flew with Fuller's front row partner and Bridgeport regular Danny Johnson charging ahead and Pratt shadowing him across the line to complete lap one.

Pratt ducked under Johnson to secure his first lead on lap five before Fuller rallied back to grab the top spot through a dozen circuits. After starting 19th on the grid, Alan Johnson slowed with a flat tire in the Jeff Rudalavage-owned no. 14j NativePoker.com-WPC Associates,Inc-Pine Line Auto Sales/Bicknell mount to bring out the first yellow flag on lap 14. Pratt inherited the lead on the ensuing restart when Fuller suffered a broken front-end and careened high into the turn three wall to end his night aboard John Lazore's no. 19 King Enterprises/TEO machine.

A third caution period for the slowing no. 48too Dave Rauscher ride once again tightened the pack with 16 circuits scored and one lap later second-generation driver and World of Outlaws Late Model star Tim McCreadie blasted out front after an 11th-place start. With his Sweeteners Plus/Bicknell car smoking from the time he qualified, McCreadie's bid for victory came to an abrupt halt as the car stopped just shy of the turn two exit amidst a billowing cloud to force chief starter Matt Burdick to once again hit the yellow light switch for caution on the speedway.

Hearn was able to take advantage of the early slowdowns as he continued to chase the leaders from his 15th-place start until finally sweeping by Pratt for his first lead as the top two crossed the line to complete lap 23. Pratt moved back to the point on lap 27 but Hearn returned the favor the following circuit before New York invader Matt Sheppard slowed to require the fifth yellow flag still less than a third of the way through the main event.

With heat back in his tires under green flag conditions, Pratt once again wrestled the lead from Hearn on lap 40 and tried to pull away from the Sussex, N.J. veteran as the halfway point approached. But Pratt fell victim in traffic, turning Dave Rauscher's mount around after heavy turn four contact and giving up the lead to Hearn on the 47th circuit. However, Pratt was quick to fire on the lap 50 restart and made what resulted in the final lead change as 18 cars still managed to stay on the lead lap with half the race scored. New Jersey driver Jimmy Chester, Pennsylvanian Jeff Strunk and Southern Tier New York veteran Billy Decker filled out the top-five.

Chester seemed to have his no. 44 C&H Motorsports-JC Leasing/Dirt Wheels entry in dialed in as he overtook Hearn on lap 58. But when Pat Ward slowed to bring out the final caution flag on lap 62, Pratt took off when the green lights reappeared and never looked back the rest of the way.

Frontrunners proceeded to take advantage of the multi-grooved racing surface as the top-10 positions fluctuated while the final laps dwindled. Strunk first passed Hearn for third on lap 80 and Planck mirrored the move one lap later as both inched closer to challenge runner-up Chester. Strunk got bottled up coming out of turn four and Planck saw the opening high to bolt from fourth to second while Chester fell to fourth behind Strunk with still seven laps to go. Decker also got by Chester on lap 96 and Bert Hard Charger Tim Hindley, on this night behind the wheel of the no. 94 Sarvis Tree Service/TEO mount, made a bold move past Hearn the lap after. Sheppard snuck past Hearn coming out of the last turn to complete the final rundown.

"This is a great way to end a season," said runner-up Planck, after earning enough points to surpass Sheppard for third-place on the final Hoosier-Sunoco Mr. DIRT points chart. Johnson settled for 23rd-place after completing just 37 laps to finish 100 markers ahead of runner-up Pete Bicknell, who missed his only small-block Series event of the season as he stayed close to home playing host to the 2005 Merrittville (Ont.) Speedway season ending awards banquet. Johnson totaled 2,098 points in the final tally followed by Bicknell (1,998), Planck (1,841), Sheppard (1,829) and Pratt (1,810).

"It was a long season and the guys on the crew did a great job from day one," said Johnson, who posted 10 top-five finishes in 13 extra-distance features which included a tour-high five wins. "This is only the second time we didn't finish and when we did we were usually up front. Tonight the car wasn't going anywhere so I just pulled it in to stay out of the way. We'll be back tomorrow with the big-block but so far this track has us pretty much stumped right now."

Chasing Hearn across the line to round out the top-10 were Alan's younger brother Danny Johnson and Bridgeport small-block runner Ken Meisner. Donnie Wetmore, Jr. finished 16th to earn top honors as the 2005 Miller Electric 358-Modified Rookie of the Year, an award he collected after wheeling the no. 3w Pit Stop Convenience Stores-E&V Energy Co./Troyer machine around the Northeast throughout the past season.

Hearn was the fastest in time trials, covering the big 5/8-mile Bridgeport oval in a time of 23.404 sec. for a one-lap average speed of 96.137 mph.

Danny Johnson Captures $25,000 Advance Auto Parts Modified 200 At Bridgeport;
Fuller Crowned Newest Hoosier Tire-Sunoco Race Fuels Mr. DIRT Champion

By Tom Skibinski, DIRT Modified Series Reporter

Bridgeport, NJ - November 13, 2005 - Danny Johnson dominated the Advance Auto Parts Modified Series Atlantic Coast Championship 200 on Sunday at Bridgeport (NJ) Speedway and collected $25,000 for his first tour victory of the season. But in the end it was the season-long success achieved by Tim Fuller that secured him the coveted overall Hoosier Tire-Sunoco Race Fuels Mr. DIRT Modified Championship to conclude DIRT MotorSports NorthEast's 30th consecutive season of open-wheel racing.

In one of the most impressive performances of the 2005 Advance Auto Parts Super DIRT Series, Johnson led all but 29 laps en route to a three-second victory over runner-up Tim McCreadie with Matt Sheppard, Billy Pauch and Billy Decker filling out the top-five at the checkers. With a tour-high total of six extra-distance wins recorded this year, Fuller finished 28th after the MBF Racing no. m1 B&F General Machine/TEO machine fell victim to a broken rear axle with just 79 laps complete.

"There's a lot that goes into having a good team but in the end its all about a quality car out here," said Johnson, 45, after scoring the decisive win steering track owner Jay James' potent no. 27 J&J Shop-Planned Poultry Renovations/TEO entry. Johnson's 59th career Advance Auto Parts SDS victory came in his ninth tour start of the season and marked just his second top-10 and only first top-five finish of 2005. "Timmy had some chances on a couple restarts but everything seemed to play our way with lapped cars when it counted. Things could've been closer catching some traffic near the end but this car kept me comfortable the entire race."

Johnson was third fastest in Saturday time trials and he won the first of six qualifying heats on opening day before drawing the third pill to start Sunday's main event inside row two. Pole-sitter Billy Pauch, Jr. blew a motor after pacing the all-star field over the initial 11 circuits before Johnson crossed the line ahead of leader Richie Tobias, Jr. to forge the final lead change on lap 30. The native Rochester, New Yorker never looked back even after a mandatory stop pitside at the halfway mark.

"Besides changing tires and putting in more fuel, we only added a little stagger and stayed pretty much the same the second half of the race," said Johnson, following his fourth big-block feature win of the year at Bridgeport. Three more Modified victories in Delaware and a small-block triumph at Utica-Rome (NY) Speedway complete his win list in 2005. "Once out in front the car was so good I hardly worked up a sweat. I can't say enough about the crew, they all know their jobs and today everything clicked from lap one."

The 45-car starting field rolled to head flagman Matt Burdick's opening green flag but before a single lap was completed consolation round qualifiers Tommy Hager and Keith Hoffman tangled in turn one to incur the first of 19 caution periods. A rare red flag was waved with seven laps complete when more than a half-dozen cars piled into turn three. Recently crowned Bridgeport points champion Duane Howard was tapped at the end of the back chute and got sideways with Alan Johnson, Meme DeSantis, Jamie Mills and Mark Forte, Sr. joining in the heap before making a final turn pitside for the remainder of the event.

Second-generation driver Pauch showed early signs of smoke on the lap eight restart and remained at the point until the big-block powerplant in the yellow no. 1k Evernham Performance Parts/TEO mount expired to cut his evening short. Tobias was quick to inherit the lead before Johnson took over on lap 30 with McCreadie, Gary Tomkins and Justin Haers in close pursuit.

Once out front, Johnson easily paced the field and was able to open up comfortable advantages at will on nearly every restart that followed a dozen more cautions. All that changed was the order of his nearest challengers as the laps clicked off. McCreadie overtook Tobias for second after 50 laps were complete while Jimmy Phelps charged into the runner-up slot on a lap 61 restart.

Homestate pilot Brett Hearn pulled to a stop in the frontstretch infield after his Page Trucking-Gable Auto Stores/TEO ride had a rear-end let loose on lap 66. Fuller was the next top runner to exit the track as Michele and Bob Faust's car ran to the turn three infield while holding down 11th. Johnson continued to maintain the point over Phelps and McCreadie with that order remaining intact when the field made a group stop in the pits as 100 laps clicked on the scoreboard. At the halfway mark Haers, Sheppard, Tomkins, Tobias, Decker, Jimmy Horton and Pauch, Sr. contended in the top-10.

Back under green flag conditions with 21 of the 26 returning cars still scored on the lead lap, Johnson showed no sign of slowing down although McCreadie moved into second for good on lap 102 to offer a brief challenge. McCreadie actually closed to within a car-length on lap 118 but faded immediately after with Phelps, Hears and Sheppard holding their positions through lap 150.

Veteran Pauch began to challenge the leaders in the later stages, passing Decker for seventh on lap 157 before powering past Tomkins on the 174th circuit. Pauch improved another position and cracked the top-five for the first time when Phelps relinquished his third-place status after suffering a flat right-rear tire on lap 183. And finally on lap 190 when Sheppard ducked under Haers for third in turn two, Pauch mirrored the maneuver and grabbed fourth-place while Decker blasted by Haers for fifth three laps shy of the finish.

Coasting under the checkered flag with a convincing three-quarter straightaway lead, Johnson proved to be no competition for his nearest trailers including the second-best car of World of Outlaws Late Model star McCreadie. "I just have to thank Jamie Mills and Kenny Brightbill for their teams helping change a steering box at the break, it was the difference between finishing second and not even coming back out," said McCreadie, following his third top-five tally of the Advance Auto Parts SDS aboard the no. 39 Sweeteners Plus-A&C Speedworld/Bicknell entry. "There still wasn't anything for Danny today, this is his track and I've been watching him win big races since I was a kid. He had us covered so second-place is the best after that."

Sheppard settled for the show position after posting his ninth top-five finish of the '05 tour in the Ross Motorsports no. 44s G-U Hardware-Advance Auto Parts/Bicknell ride. "I felt like I was better than a lot of cars out here today but it was just so tough to pass with the low groove being so good," said Sheppard, who posted his lone tour win of the '05 campaign in a last-lap thriller at New Egypt (NJ) Speedway in late September. "We had a decent year, maybe not as good as first expected, but just some real dumb luck set us back. Other than that we ran pretty well most of the season and finishing on a high note is something positive to take into the off-season. We're already looking forward to next year, with a couple breaks we should be right in the hunt."

After collecting the overall Mr. DIRT 358-Modified Championship for his owners in 2003, Fuller (1,960) outlasted Hearn (1,886) by 74 points to secure the Fausts DIRT MotorSport NorthEast's highest big-block Modified title. Defending Mr. DIRT champion Tomkins (1,861) placed third followed by Decker (1,841), Sheppard (1,718), Pat Ward (1,702), Steve Paine (1,529), Haers (1,495), Phelps (1,457) and 2005 Miller Electric Modified Rookie of the Year Stewart Friesen (1,446).

Big Cash Rewards Await Both Drivers & Fans At Atlantic Coast Championships
By DIRT MotorSports PR

WEEDSPORT, N.Y. (November 8) – Over $110,000 in feature race purses await DIRT MotorSport NorthEast open-wheel touring teams when they return to Bridgeport (NJ) Speedway for Atlantic Coast Championship Weekend, Nov. 12-13. On the other side of the fence, another $6,000 is on the line for race fans chosen to participate in a special contest during the most lucrative event in track history.

Even before rain forced officials to postpone ACC Weekend from Oct. 21-23, DIRT MotorSports Chief Executive Officer Paul Kruger along with Bridgeport Speedway co-owners Jay James and Brian Ramey raised the stakes. The Advance Auto Parts Modified Super DIRT Series 200 winner's share was bumped up five grand to $25,000 from the total purse of nearly $75,000. Sunday's big-block Modified finale boasts $500 just to start the 125-mile main event with an additional $4,000 up for grabs in lap money as Local 172 Teamsters has posted a $100 halfway leader bonus.

Trackside excitement is just the beginning as racers and their fans will also be able to participate in the unique 'HummersGoneWild.com Fan Challenge' with some lucky fans given a chance to take home $3,000. "Two fans will be chosen at random to throw a ball into the moon roof of a Hummer H2 provided by Hummers Gone Wild," said Bridgeport Promoter Dave Adams. "We're going to pick a fan on Saturday and one on Sunday, hopefully somebody will leave with an extra three grand in their pocket."

The Atlantic Coast classic kicks off Sat., Nov. 12 with a Super DIRT Series doubleheader for 358-Modified and Sportsman divisions plus Advance Auto Parts Modified time trials along with a feature race for Bridgeport's own GM Crate Sportsman teams. The 50-lap DIRT Sportsman feature pays $4,000 to win while the 100-lap DIRT 358-Modified main is worth $7,500 to the winner.

The local Jasper sprint cars begin activity on Sun., Nov. 13 with preliminary events setting up for a 25-lap feature run. A big-block Modified last-chance race precedes the lucrative $25,000-to-win 200-lap Advance Auto Parts Modified Super DIRT Series showdown which will be stopped at 100 laps for a 10-minute tire & refueling session.
