Middleford Speedway

The Lloyd Family Benefit race brought out our largest crowd of the year. With a car count of 75+cars , all classes were full of great drivers who when the payout window opened, showed their hearts in the donation box.  A total of $4793 was raised from drivers payouts ,a gift basket raffle, and the front gate money donated by promoter Ron Faison.

The racing action started out with the 250 Jr. Micros class were Mike Baker took the win followed by Tyler Reed , Kyle Lloyd, Jayce Wilkerson, Cord Kisthardt, Cameron Merriman, Dylan McMahan, & Brandon Ash.

The Mod-Lite Jr. class saw a first time winner in Billy Mellon ,followed across the line by last weeks winner Justin Breeding, Brandon Mullins, Kristen Keys ,& CJ Faison.

The 270 class was once again dominated flag to flag by Ross "the man" Robinson, in the Grotto's Pizza sprinter. Ross & crew were seen celebrating after the win with a stack of Grotto's pizzas.  Newcomer Chuck Palmucci was second followed by Ronny Hays, Ryan Chism ,& Andrew Mullins rounding out the top five.

The Mod-Lite class saw 11 drivers take the green with multiple leaders in an action packed feature with Kevin McKinney taking home the top prize in the "jumpin Jack Vammino" # V74. Early leader Richard Wilson held off the challenges of Kevin McKinney and Steve White with at times a 3 wide action. White was all over the track on the high side , bottom & middle looking for an opening, but Wilson held on until lap 8 when McKinney took the lead with White in tow. The finish saw McKinney , White, Wilson , Bobby Walls who came from 11th to finish fourth ,and Dan Fiedler rounding out the top five.

The 250 stock class was the largest of the year with 15 fast cars.  Newcomer Dave Brown put on a clinic in the 250 stock class as he lead every lap with no serious pressure.  Andrew Mullins was second followed by Luke Thomas, Tyler Reed, Cameron Merriman. Ryan Wozunk was the lone 125cc driver finishing first and donating his purse to the benefit.

The 600 Micros had a 27 car field with Eric Vent winning after early leader Jordan Watson had mechanical failures forcing him to the pit. Vent winning in honor of his late grandmother was presented the checkered flag by "BIG" John, the worlds best flagman. Chris Neibert crossed the line in second with Nick Sapp, Jason Warfield ,Jeremy Lynch the top five.

Pit notes: The crowd saw a great list of racers with hearts in hand to help out a great race family. Joesph "jo jo" Watson won the Dash 4 Cash in the 600 Micros, Billy Mellon made his first win in impressive style. Dave Brown won the 270's and made it through the tech barn.

Promoter Ron Faison wanted to thank the staff at Middleford Speedway, John the flagman, the scorers in the tower for a great job, Ethan the tow-man, Mike on the entrance gate, and Lil Ralphie at the scales. These are the people that make a track run and function and we as racers should stop and say THANKS....because without these guys & girls we would only have a fenced in circle of dirt............

Middleford Speedway gearing up for 2005 season

by Frank Marsh

SEAFORD, Del. -- As the Middleford Speedway 2005 racing season vastly approaches fans and drivers alike will see some major changes at the speedway. Gone is the 1/5-mile banked oval, Being replaced with a 1/4-mile semi-banked oval. Track owner Tom Morris sited track preparation as the reason.

“Last year we fought rough track conditions because of the weather as well as not being able to get the equipment on the track because of the banking. I also think it will improve the caliper of competition,” stated Morris.

In other news, the slingshots and the super carts have been dropped from weekly competition. Poor car counts the culprit. Replacing those divisions will be a new semi-late model class. This division will basically be a three quarter scale late model. You can contact Tom Morris for info about the new class at 302-628-2654. Also in competition in 2005 will be 250cc stock and 125cc stock micro-sprints. These two classes will rotate every other week. The Ford Focus Midgets will be making an appearance at the speedway in '05. That date will be announced as soon as it is available.

The sponsorship trail continues to grow weekly. Bi-rite Auto Sales of Seaford returns to be the class sponsor for the 250 Jr. class. Clarks Pools of Seaford has signed up to be the class sponsor of the 600cc class and Skipjack’s Restaurant of Seaford will come on board to sponsor the 270cc class. The 2005-point champion in these divisions will receive at least $1000.00 at next years awards banquet.

Middleford Speedway is actively seeking a race director for 05. Anyone interested call Paige Lynch at 302-422-8486. February 10 thru 13 will find Middleford Speedway at the 15th annual “Motorsports Mania” racecar show at the Center in Salisbury, Md. Schedules and much more will be available. Anyone wanting to volunteer some time helping get the track done just show up on the weekends.
