JOHN WILLMAN PULLS MAJOR UPSET TO WIN DELAWARE BIG BLOCK CHAMPIONSHIP
By Charlie Brown, Delmar. DE - John Willman of Birdsboro, Pa. made his first Big
Block Modified start one that he will never forget. Willman, who is a regular in
the Small Block Modifieds at the Grandview and Big Diamond Speedways, got the
call to drive the Tony and Dee Saracino modified for the first time in the
Delaware State Dirt Track Championships on Sunday at the Delaware International
Speedway. Willman was quickest in his qualifying on Saturday and won his
qualifying heat which put him on the pole for Sunday’s event. He went on to pull
the major upset as he held off Danny Johnson for the 50 lap distance to post his
first career Big Block Modified win which was worth $7240.
Willman set the pace at the start. The field narrowly avoided a pileup coming
off the second turn when Jimmy Horton and Wade Hendrickson got tangled. The two
were able to separate but Horton dropped several positions. Danny Johnson rode
in second with Tim Millman shooting into third. Gary Hager was fourth and
Hendrickson recovered to hold fifth.
Hager developed a push and Hendrickson took third on lap seven. Craig VonDohren
followed into fifth. The caution was out on lap eight when Hager spun off the
top of the turn. The green was only out for another lap before Hager again lost
the handle and spun. Millman got shuffled out on the restart as Hendrickson and
VonDohren moved by. VonDohren and Hendrickson made contact with VonDohren
getting around to bring out the caution on lap 12.
Millman was now back in fourth and Horton was back up to fifth. Willman
continued to run a flawless race out front with Johnson in striking distance in
second. Beau Wilkins slowed with a flat on lap 17 to bring out the fifth yellow.
On lap 22, Horton got by Millman for fourth and at the halfway sign the top five
were Willman, Johnson, Hendrickson, and Millman.
The next 20 laps were all under the green and Willman was able to motor away
from the field. The yellow was back out on lap 45 erasing Willman’s lead. On the
restart, Duane Howard wiggled into fifth. The final yellow was out on lap 47
when Mike Isles and Millman made contact and spun off the first turn.
Willman was not shaken by the restarts and maintained his line for the final
three laps to post the win in the 4 Star Lettering/Dave George Engines/Bicknell.
“I just picked this ride up on Thursday night through a friend of mine Dan
Cohen,” said an elated Willman. “I picked the car up on Thursday night and went
over it. Jimmy Horton helped me with the setup. Duane Howard and Craig VonDohren
helped me with some tips on restarts that I had been struggling on. The only
problem I had all day was in lapped traffic they just wouldn’t get low enough on
the straightaway to get a run on them.”
Danny Johnson ended a fantastic fall finishing in second with Hendrickson third.
Horton made a nice recovery to finish in fourth and Howard ended his great
weekend in fifth.

DAVID PETTYJOHN GETS FIRST LATE MODEL FALL CHAMPIONSHIP WIN
David Pettyjohn survived an outbreak of “yellow fever” to win his first fall
championship in the Late Model division. Pettyjohn led the entire distance for
his second win of the year.
The 50-lap Late Model championship got off to an ugly start. It took seven
restarts before the first lap was in the record books. Roy Deese, Lou Johnson,
Kerry King, Vic Thomas, Ed Drury, Bobby Williamson, Mike Wharton, Matt Hubbard ,
Rob Massey, Dan Stone, and Bob Geiger will all involved in the yellows.
Once under the green, David Pettyjohn opened up a three car advantage over
Mechanicville, Maryland’s Jamie Lathroum. Scott Haus of Hamburg, Pa. ran in the
third sport with Darryl Hills fourth and Mark Pettyjohn fifth.
Mark Pettyjohn’s day ended on lap ten when a lapped car sent the top five
scrambling going into turn three. Pettyjohn went off the top of the turn and
brought out the yellow. Kenny Pettyjohn was now running in fifth.
Haus started to slow with a tire going down as Hills pulled in to third, Kenny
Pettyjohn into fourth and last year’s winner, David Hill into fifth. The order
remained the same through halfway as the field ran 25 non-stop laps.
A scary moment happened on lap 42 when Mike Williams lost control coming off the
second turn. Williams hit the inside wall directly in front on a photographer
but no one was injured in the crash. Once again on the restart David Pettyjohn
was able to open a lead over Lathroum.
Lathroum got out of shape on lap 46 and Hills, Kenny Pettyjohn, and Hill all got
by before he could recover. The final yellow was out with five to go when G.G.
Messick came to a stop on the front straight.
The yellow would have no affect on David Pettyjohn as he once again pulled away
for the win. It was the second of the season and his first Fall Championship
victory. The win for the driver of the John Scott/Midway Speedway/Rocket was
worth $3755.
“I didn’t know who was behind me,” said Pettyjohn. “The car was on a string when
we qualified last night.” Pettyjohn failed to mention that the team had gone
home and worked until 3 a.m. changing the engine in the car before Sunday’s
race.
Hills had his best Delaware finish in second with Kenny Pettyjohn third David
Hill fourth and Lathroum fifth. Heats were won by Hills Lathroum, and David
Pettyjohn with Kerry King taking the consolation.

ERIK MCKINNEY, CHAD CLARK, BRANDON DENNIS, AND DYLAN BETTS WIN IN SUPPORT
DIVISIONS
Bobby Watkins jumped out to the early lead in the 25-lap Street Modified
championship. Kevin McKinney tried to pass both Erik McKinney and Watkins on lap
five but climbed over Watkins’ car before tagging the wall. Both Watkins and
Kevin McKinney were done for the day. Erik McKinney was the new leader and led
the final 20 laps to record his first win worth $1775 in the Jack
Vammino/Vending Technologies/Rocket. Ross Robinson followed in second with Mike
Wilson, Joe Warren and Jon Callaway rounding out the top five. Heats were won by
Mike Wharton, Kevin McKinney, and Watkins with Billy Mellon taking the
consolation.
Chad Clark of Bridgeville drove a flawless race to win his first feature and
first fall championship in the 25-lap AC Delco TSS Modified main. Clark started
on the pole and never faltered to win the event and $1800 in the Snookie’s Speed
Parts No. 86. John Curtis of Harrington chased him the entire distance for his
best finish of the season in second and Jordan Watson finished in third. Fourth
went to Richard White, Jr. and Grant Ireland rounded out the top five. Heats
were won by Clark, John Curtis, and Watson.
Brandon Dennis finished out his fantastic season with his first fall
championship win in the 25-lap Modified Lite feature. Dennis survived eight
cautions flags and led wire to wire for the win, which was worth $1460, in his
Do It All Construction/Kustom Painting/Pro Race Car. Mike Stratton chased Dennis
the entire distance in the Pro house car to finish in second. Tim White avoided
a final turn tangle to bring the Al White No. 93 home third with Ohio’s John
Mollick finishing fourth and Steve White fifth. Heats were won by Dennis,
Stratton, and Tennessee’s Douglas Carrigan.
The Slide for 5 feature was the final event of the day. Harlan Williams led the
first three laps before the red was out as Daniel Williams was momentarily
knocked out. He was taken for treatment to the Peninsula Regional Hospital.
Under the red Williams headed to the pits. Dylan Betts led the final two laps
for this third win of the year. Brent Lewis finished in second with Bob Hayman
third in the 24 car field.

DUANE HOWARD WINS DELAWARE SMALL BLOCK FALL CHAMPIONSHIP
By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE (11/4/06) – Duane Howard of Oley, Pa. had one of
those perfect days that drivers hope for as he captured the 50-lap Small Block
Modified feature in Saturday’s portion of the Delaware State Dirt Track
Championships. Howard quick timed in his qualifying group then won his heat and
led wire-to-wire holding off Jeff Strunk for the win.
The yellow was out before the first lap could be completed when a ripple effect
from the front of the pack ended with Greg Humlhanz getting around and being
tagged by Judd Mills in the second turn. The restart was clean as Howard set the
pace to match. Richie Pratt, Jr. held second with Jeff Strunk getting a good
start, moving from fifth to third.
Craig VonDohren held his fourth starting spot with Jimmy Horton running in
fifth. The early race charge was put on by Frank Cozze. Cozze came from his 17th
starting spot to 10th by lap seven. By lap 10, Howard had caught the rear of the
field. The second yellow was out on lap 11 when Sean Merkel folded up the front
of his car coming off turn two.
On the restart, Strunk quickly mounted a challenge on Pratt, taking second on
lap 13. The field slowed for a third time on lap 23 when Shawn Reimert slowed
with a flat front tire. Howard went back to the business of leading on the
restart and at the halfway sign the top five were Howard, Strunk, Pratt,
VonDohren and Horton. The caution was out for a final time at this point when
Ray Swinehart rolled to a stop on the back straight.
With the second half run totally under the green, the leaders were quickly back
in lapped traffic. Former winner Tim Hindley pulled from the race on lap thirty.
Howard was cautious in traffic and Stunk closed to his back bumper. VonDohren
got by Pratt for third with six to go.
Howard caught Jimmy Chester with five to go but would not venture to the outside
to attempt a pass. Strunk went to the outside going into turn one but drifted
high and quickly tucked back in behind Howard. The two crossed the finish line
nose to tail with Howard taking his first fall championship win in the Chad
Sinon/BPG Motorsports No. 4.
“We were lucky enough to time good,” said Howard. “That’s what it is all about
here in a day show. I love coming here for this weekend event and if you start
up front you usually have a good day and that all starts by qualifying.”
Strunk ended a great drive in second with Howard’s teammate, VonDohren finishing
in third. Fourth went to Pratt, Jr. and Jimmy Horton rounded out the top five.
Sixth was New York’s Brian Weaver and Cozze put on the best charge finishing in
seventh. Jaime Mills in the Will Brown No. 1W finished in eighth with Mike Iles
and Chad James rounding out the top ten.
The Little Lincoln Vintage 10-lap championship was a real thriller. Bill
Brittingham grabbed the top spot from his fourth starting spot on lap one. Jim
Miller tangled with Ron Wilson on lap four. Pat McNeal, Tim Chambers and Kenny
Foy were also involved.
Brittingham stayed on top with Matt Johnson working his way past Mike Karr for
second. On the final turn, Brittingham slid just high enough to allow Johnson to
stick the nose of his car up along side. The two ran wheel to wheel off the
fourth turn with Johnson, in his Bailey’s Property Management/Richard Whaley
Concrete/’57 Chevy edging Brittingham for his first career win. Donald Robinson,
Jr. finished in third with Ron Wilson coming from the rear for fourth and McNeal
doing likewise to finish in fifth.

RICKY JOHNSON WINS 3RD, BUNTING DEFENDS CHAMPIONSHIP IN DELAWARE MODIFIEDS
By Charlie Brown Delmar, DE (9/30/06) – Ricky Johnson topped off a successful
season by capturing his third win of the season as part of Racer Appreciation
Night sponsored by Snookie’s Speed Parts, American Race Tires, and A-1 Racing
Fuels. H.J. Bunting’s fifth place finish in the event earned him his second
consecutive point title in the Big Block Modifieds and his third overall
Saturday night at the Delaware International Speedway.
Glenn Richards set the early pace ahead of Matt Jester and Donnie Radd. Ricky
Johnson was on the move from his sixth starting spot, taking fourth by lap six.
Jester began to pressure Richards for the lead at that point. Coming off the
second turn on lap 11, Richards got over the wheel of Jester but managed to keep
the car off the wall dropping to fifth.
Jester was the new leader and at the halfway point was followed by Johnson,
Radd, Norman Short, and Mark Byram. Johnson easily took the point heading down
the back straight on the next lap. The first caution was out on lap 15 when
Eddie Collins quickly slowed and John Keller got into the wall.
Beau Wilkins’ shot at the title ended on lap 18 when he got together with
Richards while battling for fifth and cut down a tire, bringing out the yellow.
Bunting was now running in the fifth spot as Wilkins made it back out at the
rear but still on the lead lap.
Two cautions on laps 20 and 21 kept the field bunched up but Johnson would make
no mistakes as he drove to his third win in the Johnson’s OK Custom Exhaust/Teo/Morrison.
In victory lane Johnson dedicated the win to his grandmother, Ann Gravenor who
passed away two weeks prior.
Jester finished out a great rookie season finishing in second with Radd third,
Short fourth and Bunting finishing in the all important fifth spot. Bunting said
that the championship was especially satisfying this season because it was done
in his own car and with motors that were put together by his father and former
five time champion, Harold Bunting. Richards and Johnson won the heats.
Joseph Tracy led wire to wire to win his third of the season in the AC Delco TSS
Modified feature. Chris Hitchens climbed to second by lap six and chased Tracy
the rest of the distance. Jack Mullins, Jr. and Brad Trice entered the final
points event in a tight battle for the championship. Trice chased Mullins most
of the race.
Tracy, in the Virgil Davis III Trucking No. 37J posted his third win of the
season. Hitchens turned in a season’s best finishing in second with Mullins
holding off Trice for his first point championship. Rodney Cordrey crossed the
line in fifth but was light at the scales and Grand Ireland was credited with
fifth. Fast time was set by Tracy in qualifying.
Rick Wheatley led the first four laps of the Modified Lite main before Steve
White moved on top. Brandon Dennis followed into the second spot with Herb Tunis
taking third. Dennis kept the pressure on the remainder of the distance and
moved low coming off the second turn to take the lead on the final lap.
Dennis, in the Do It All Construction/Pro, drove to his fourth win of the year.
White finished in second with Tunis third. Jody Cahall finished in the fourth
spot and Aaron Bada rounded out the top five. Tim White’s sixth place finish was
more than enough to earn him his first Modified Lite point crown. White
dedicated his championship season to his mother who passed away last month.
Snookie Vent of Snookie’s Speed parts presented the Modified and AC Delco
Modified winners with a gift certificate for $150 each plus Lias Tire Racing

two turning the lead over to Rob Massey. Richard Jarvis, Jr. shot from fifth to
second by lap two and began to pressure Massey for the lead.
On lap six, Massey got sideways in the fourth turn. Jarvis got on the brakes
hard but made contact with Massey going around and bringing out the caution.
Jarvis was able to keep moving and was the new leader with Gary Simpson riding
in second. At the halfway sign Jarvis was pulling away as Donald Lingo, Jr.
slipped into second Simpson held on to the third spot followed by Ray Davis, Jr.
and David Hill in fifth. Simpson regained the second spot on lap 13 but could
not close on Jarvis.

BUNTING GETS 1ST WIN OF SEASON – TAKES POINT LEAD IN DELAWARE MODIFIEDS
By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE (09/24/06) – The old saying “better late than
never” could not have been truer for H.J. Bunting on Saturday night. The
defending Big Block Modified Champion, not only posted his first win of the
season in capturing the Delmarva Dodge Dealers 25-lap main but he also moved
into the point lead. Bunting now holds a slight advantage in the standings over
Beau Wilkins who took a nasty flip on the final turn of his qualifying heat and
had to start at the rear of the field in the Jake Marine backup car. The chase
for the 2006 title will be decided at the final points race this Saturday night.
Glenn Richards set the pace for the first three laps before Robert Dutton shot
to the point. Bunting shot from 10th to second by lap five using the low groove.
The battle for the lead lasted for just a lap before Dutton started to fade and
Bunting moved on top for lap seven.
The yellow was out on lap 12 when a banging match between Tim Millman and Jamie
Mills ended with both cars coming to a stop in the third turn. Millman was able
to continue but restarted in the rear and Mills had to be towed to the pits.
The race restarted at the halfway point with Bunting now being chased by Norman
Short. Cliff Foskey was putting on a great drive and was running in third as
Matt Jester fought an ill-handling car in fourth and Mark Byram rounded out the
top five.
The second half was all green until lap 22 when Ricky Johnson lost and engine
and rolled to a stop erasing the more than two seconds lead that Bunting had
built. The restart was all Bunting and he powered to his first win of the year
in the Courtland Manor/1st State Chevrolet/Teo. Short finished a strong second
with Foskey third and Byram fourth. Wilkins stayed in the point hunt by coming
from the rear to finish in fifth. Heats were won by Richards and Donnie Radd.
“We put in and new engine about four weeks ago and it has made a big
difference,” said a smiling Bunting.
Brandon Dennis was not to be denied his second consecutive Modified Lite win as
he took the lead from Bunky McNatt on lap one then held off the lat race
challenges of Steve White to earn his third win of the year in the Do It All
Construction/Pro. Steve White worked his way past teammate Tim White with to
laps to go to finish in second and Tim White followed across the stripe in
third. Fourth went to Jody Cahall and Herb Tunis rounded out the top five.
The AC Delco TSS 15-lap feature was taken by Ryan Walls. Tom Evans led the first
three laps before Walls moved on top. Once out front Walls was never seriously
challenged as he drove to his sixth win of the year in the M&M Heating & Air/Teo.
Mullins finished in the second spot with Richard White, Jr. third. Chris
Hitchens took fourth on the final lap and Billy Carr rounded out the top five.

DONALD LINGO, JR. GETS 5TH WIN IN LATE MODELS
What Donald Lingo termed as being the “end of a drought” would probably be
looked at as a dream season for many drivers as he captured his fifth win of the
season in the 20-lap Late Model main.
Ray Davis, Jr. has been running good all month long and he led the first two
laps of the feature before Rob Massey cranked it up and moved out front. Lingo
battled with Davis for two laps before finally taking second on lap seven.
At the halfway point Massey was running strong in the lead with Lingo second.
Davis clung to third while Gary Simpson and David Hill dueled for fourth. The
second half of the race was run entirely under the green. Lingo moved on top
with five laps to go and was able to pull away for his fifth win in the Lingo
Marine/Virgil Ellwanger Insurance/Rocket.
Massey ended his good run in second with Davis doing likewise in finishing
third. Simpson finished in the fourth spot and Hill finished fifth. Richard
Jarvis, Jr. and Massey won the heats.
The 15-lap Street Modified feature got off to a bad start as Hal Browning got
around in the first turn. Jason Dean made contact and go upside down and both
Ross Robinson and Andrew Mullins were involved. No one was injured in the
incident.
Kevin Scott, Jr. led the first three laps before point leader, Joe Warren took
the top spot. Sparky White followed into second but would later suffer
mechanical problems and head to the pits. Warren would not make any mistakes as
he drove to his fourth win in his Big Fish Grill/Lazer. Mike Wilson took second
at halfway and chased Warren to the checkered with Scott finishing in third.
Newcomer Justin Breeding finished in the fourth spot and Bobby Williamson
rounded out the top five.

By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE (9/16/06) – Coming into Saturday night, Beau
Wilkins held a mere one point lead in the Big Block Modified standings over
Jamie Mills. Wilkins helped his own cause in taking the lead from Glenn Richards
on lap nine and driving to his third win of the season in the Pepsi sponsored

Glenn Richards started on the pole and hooked up with Mark Byram to quickly pull
away from the field. Beau Wilkins was charging from his ninth starting spot and
entered the top five on lap six. One lap later he took fourth from Norman Short
then third from Robert Dutton on lap seven. The first yellow was out on lap
eight when Eddie Collins came to a stop in the first turn.
Wilkins took advantage of the restart to shoot to the outside to lead lap nine.
Yellow flags on laps ten and 11 kept the field tightly bunched and at the
halfway sign the top five were Wilkins, Byram, Short, H.J. Bunting, and
Richards.
Wilkins opened up a comfortable lead over Byram while Short and Bunting battled
for third. The final yellow was out on lap 17 when both Ricky Johnson and Chuck
Tucker slowed with flat right rear tires.

Roofing/Teo. Second spot was Byram’s best finish of the year with Bunting,
Short, and Foskey rounding out the top five. Heats were won by Richards and
Bunting.
“Jake Marine gives me top notch equipment to put me up front,” said Wilkins.

wide run coming off the fourth turn. At the halfway sign the top five were
Mullins, Tracy, Ireland, Chris Hitchens and Jarrell.
Hitchens worked into third on lap nine. Yellows kept the field tightly bunched

RICKY JOHNSON GETS SECOND WIN IN DELAWARE
MODIFIEDS
By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE (9/9/06) – Hometown driver Ricky Johnson planned
his strategy during a lap eight caution then worked it to perfection to take the
lead. Johnson then went on to capture the 25-lap Hertrich Pontiac/Buick/GMC
Modified feature, his second of the year, Saturday night at the Delaware
International Speedway.
Cliff Foskey started on the pole and was quick at the drop of the green. Foskey
was tailed by Matt Jester and the pair opened an early advantage over Robert
Dutton, Ricky Johnson, and Tim Millman who were all fighting for third.
Beau Wilkins was on the move from eighth and entered the top five on lap four.
Johnson worked by Dutton on lap eight just as the yellow flew for Glenn Reed who
had rolled to a stop. On the restart Johnson cranked it up and went up top to
take second from Jester. H.J. Bunting was flying on the bottom and shot from
sixth to third as Johnson worked by Foskey to take the lead on lap ten.
At the halfway sign the top five were Johnson, Bunting, Foskey, Jester, and
Dutton. The race would stay green until lap 21 when Dutton came to a stop coming
off turn two. Bunting made a bid for the lead going into the first turn but
Johnson powered off turn two never to be challenged again.
“The car ran good tonight,” said a modest Johnson. “I would like to thank my dad
for bying the cars and motors that I need to do this, my crew for all the hard
work they put into it and my wife for sticking with me and letting me do this
racing thing.”
Bunting closed the gap slightly between himself and point leader Jamie Mills by
finishing in second. Foskey finished a great drive in third with Mills fourth
and Wilkins fifth. Heats were won by Jester and Dutton.
Tom Evan led the first half of the caution filled AC Delco TSS Modified feature
before Richard Walls, Jr. took over on lap five. Joseph Tracy followed into
second and Chris Hitchens joined the pair to make it a three car battle.
That battle went right down to a one lap shoot out when Billy Preston brought
out the yellow with one lap to go. Tracy saved it all for last as he took the
lead coming off the final turn and record his second consecutive win in the
Virgil Davis Trucking/Troyer. Richard Walls held off Hitchens for second and
Ryan Walls did the same with Evans to finish in fourth and fifth. Tracy set fast
time in qualifying.
In the 15-lap Modified Lite main, Erik McKinney led the first two laps before
spinning turning the lead over to Jody Cahall. Cahall led but one lap before
Brandon
Dennis moved on top. Dennis wasn’t there for long either as Steve White blasted
out front on lap six and drove to his ninth win of the season in the R&F
Auto/Durham Racing/Lightning.
The battle for second was a great one as McKinny came from the rear to join
Dennis and Tim White. The trio came off the fourth turn three wide and ran that
way to the checkered with Mckinney taking second, Tim White third and Dennis
fourth. Kirk Miles rounded out the top five. Fast time in qualify went to Tim
White.

MATT JESTER GETS 2ND WIN IN DELAWARE MODIFIEDS
By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE (08/26/06) – Matt Jester was back in stride on
Saturday night at the Delaware International Speedway as for the second time in
his rookie season he led flag to flag to win the 25-lap Big Block Modified
feature at the Delaware International Speedway.
Jester started on the pole but the race would get off scary start and Norman
Short flipped end over end down the front straight. No other cars were involved
and Short climbed from the badly damaged racer under his own power. He was later
transported to the hospital due to biting his tongue in the crash.
On the restart Ricky Johnson, H.J. Bunting, and Beau Wilkins went three wide off
turn two but the cars made contact putting Johnson out for the night. The point
leader, Bunting also had to head to the pits for repairs and returned several
laps down.
Tim Millman chased Jester until lap six when Wilkins dropped him to third. At
the halfway sign the top five were Jester, Wilkins, Millman, Robert Dutton and
Jamie Mills. With ten to go, Jester had built a 2.3 second lead but the yellow
was out for a final time when Chuck Tucker came to a stop.
Wilkins got by Millman on the restart for second but could not match Jester’s
speed. Jester took the checkered by 1.8 seconds over Wilkins. It was his second
win in the Clearview Farms ride. Wilkins finished in the second spot with
Millman, Dutton, and Mills rounding out the top five. Heats were won by Jester
and Dutton.
“The car handled perfect and the motor just pulled us around,” smiled Jester.
“We knew it was going to be a horsepower track and it definitely was.”
Joseph Tracy put on the drive of his young career as he took the lead from a
determined Tom Evans on lap seven of the 15-lap AC Delco TSS Modified feature
and then drove to his first career victory. Evans looked strong in the early
laps and did not give up the second spot until lap 10.
The yellow came out on lap 14 when Grant Ireland got into the back of Jack
Mullins, Jr. Both drivers were to restart at the rear but they got into a
banging match under the caution that resulted in Ireland’s car doing a roll over
with Mullin’s car perched on top. Both cars were done for the night with the
possibility of additional penalties being levied during the week.
Tracy was not to be denied as he held off Trice on the final lap to collect his
first checkered in the Virgil Davis Trucking/Troyer. Evans ended a solid drive
in third with Ryan Walls and Richard Walls, Jr. rounding out the top five. Trice
set fast time in qualifying.
The fact that Steve White was driving a borrowed car didn’t change the end
result as White took the lead from Aaron Bada on the final lap to win his eight
feature of the season in the Modified Lites. Jody Cahall led the first lap
before Randy Hill, Jr. took over for the next five circuits. On lap seven, Herb
Tunis became the third different leader.
Tunis appeared to be headed for victory but both Hill and Cahall both erupted in
smoke on lap 13 bringing out the yellow. Aaron Bada jumped on top on the restart
with Steve White and Tim White following into second and third.
Steve White powered his Northeast Modified Lite into the lead on the final lap
to take the win. Bada finished in the second spot with Tim White, Tunis, and
Brandon Dennis rounding out the top five. Fast time in qualifying was set by
Tunis.

DAVID HILL REBOUNDS FOR FIRST WIN OF THE SEASON IN DELAWARE LATE MODELS
Two weeks ago when David Hill’s power steering froze and he hit the wall and
flipped it looked like the chances that the five time champion in the Late Model
division may have lost his best opportunity to win in 2006. Hill returned with
the following week with the car completely repaired including an entirely new
front clip and ran well. Saturday night, Hill was back out front and he drove to

the charge from fourth and took the top spot by for lap five. Hill followed from
fifth into second one lap later and at the halfway sign the top five were
Jarvis, Hill, Donald Lingo, Jr.; Gary Simpson, and Massey.

the caution. Hill was now on top with four time winner, Donald Lingo riding in

his first win of the year and the 135th of his career at the speedway.

They (Rocket Chassis) did a great job.”

15-lap Street Modified feature as he set the pace through the first half of the
main. Ross Robinson got by Kelly Putz on lap two and had caught Scott by the
halfway sign.
Robinson edged out front but before the lap could be completed the yellow flew
for Mike Wilson. Robinson restarted in second but took the lead for certain with
five laps to go. Robinson, in the Grotto Pizza/Shark’s Service Center/BRC pulled
away for his seventh win of the season. Scott held second until the final lap
when Joe Warren got by to finish the runner-up. Scott held on for third with Hal
Browning and Putz rounding out the top five. Fast time in qualifying was set by

MILLMAN BACK ON TOP IN DELAWARE MODIFIEDS
By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE (08/19/06) – Tim Millman took advantage of a
restart on lap ten to make a bold move in the first turn and drive from third to
first. He then drove away from the field to record his fourth win of the season
in the 25-lap Lankford Sysco sponsored Big Block Modified feature Saturday night
at the Delaware International Speedway.
The battle began to wage at the drop of the green as Robert Dutton led the first
lap before Millman moved on top. Dutton was back out front on lap three as
Norman Short joined the fray. H.J. Bunting was on a mission from ninth taking
third on lap five.
Short slowed with brake problems on lap nine which brought out the yellow flag.
Dutton controlled the restart with Bunting charging into second on the outside.
Millman splt the pair going into the first turn and took the lead coming off of
turn two. At the halfway sign the top five were Millman, Dutton, Bunting, Bobby
Wilkins and Chuck
Tucker.
The second half was all green with Bunting working past Dutton with seven to go.
By that point Millman had opened a large advantage which Bunting could not
close. Millman, in the Tom Sparks/Holiday Chicken/Bicknell took the checkered
almost three seconds ahead of Bunting.
Bobby Wilkins took the third spot from Dutton on the final lap with Dutton
finishing fourth and Beau Wilkins coming from the rear to finish in fifth. Heats

BEAU WILKINS GIVES HIMSELF A BIRTHDAY PRESENT WITH DELAWARE MODIFIED WIN
By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE (08/13/06) – Beau Wilkins could not have given
himself a better birthday present on his 24th birthday than his second win of
the season in the 25-Lap Big Block Modified feature, Saturday night at the
Delaware International Speedway.
Last weeks winner, Matt Jester, started on the pole and looked like he was
headed for a repeat as he quickly opened up a lead on the rest of the field.
Donnie Radd gave chase in second and Tim Millman ran in third.
Jester’s chance for a repeat ended on lap eight when he slowed with mechanical
problems as he headed down the back straight. On the restart, Millman took the
point with Wilkins following past Radd for second.
At the halfway sign the top five were Millman, Wilkins, Radd, Norman Short, and
Ricky Johnson. In an effortless move, Wilkins took the lead on the next circuit.
With eight to go, H.J. Bunting began a charge as he took fifth from Cliff
Foskey. Radd got back by Millman for second and Short shot into third. Bunting
got by Millman for fourth with two laps to go and quickly reeled in Short.
Wilkins held a 1.5 seconds lead at the checkered for his second win of the
season in the Jake Marine/H&L Roofing/Teo. “This is what my dad preaches to me,”
said Wilkins. “He doesn’t tell me how to drive he just tells me to be smooth and
use my head out there.”
Radd finished in the runner-up spot for the second week in a row and his fourth
consecutive week in the top two. Bunting ended an inspired ride by taking third
on the final lap. Short finished in the fourth spot and Millman rounded out the
top five. Heats were won by Jester and Wilkins.
Ryan Walls took the lead from pole sitter, Tom Evans on the first lap of the
15-lap AC Delco TSS Modified feature. Joseph Tracy pulled into second and the
two powered away from the rest of the field. With two laps to go, Tracy made a
bid for the lead in the third turn but lost the handle on the car and spun
ending a great drive.
Point leader, Jack Mullins, Jr. nabbed second on the restart but could not get
by Walls who posted his fourth win in the C&M Lawn Works/Teo. Evans ended a good
run in third with Richard White, Jr. taking fourth on the final lap and Jamie
Mills, who had taken the “Double Play” challenge finishing in fifth.
Jody Cahall led from the drop of the green in the Modified Lite 15 lap feature.
Randy Hill, Jr. held the second spot until Tim White moved by on lap five. Aaron
Bada entered the scene making it a three car battle.
White took the top spot at the halfway sign with Bada following into second.
Cahall’s chances ended that same lap when he clipped a tire heading into the
third turn and flipped hard but was not injured. Bada edged ahead on the restart
but White moved back on top in turn one and then drove to his fifth checkered of
the year in the Al White/R&F Auto/Lightning. Brandon Dennis took second from
Bada on the final lap with Hill finishing fourth and Herb Tunis taking fifth.

DONALD LINGO, JR. “THREEPEATS” IN DELAWARE LATE MODELS
The Late Model 20-lap feature was an action filled affair that saw leader David
Hill take a nasty flip on the front straight and Donald Lingo, Jr. hold off
Ricky “the Rocket” Elliott by half a car length for his third consecutive win.
Ray Davis, Jr. led the first three laps from his pole starting position before
David Hill shot on top. Davis slowed on lap five bringing out the yellow moving
Dale Lingo to second.
The scariest moment of the night occurred on the restart when Hill apparently
broke a rear axel coming off the fourth turn for the green. Hill shot head on
into the wall and flipped high enough to allow Gary Simpson to pass under him
without making any contact. The car ended up on its roof with Hill quickly
scrambling out of the window and was OK.
Donald Lingo took the lead from Dale Lingo on the restart and Ricky Elliott
followed into second. By the halfway point, Richard Jarvis, Jr. was running in
third with Kenny Pettyjohn in fourth and Dale Lingo holding on to fifth. The
caution would come out on lap 12 when Pettyjohn slowed with a flat rear tire.
Donald Lingo maintained the lead using the middle groove. Lingo got sideways on
lap 16 but Elliott couldn’t take advantage of the miscue. Lingo would not make
any more bobbles and held off Elliott’s last lap charge to win by a car length
in his Ralph’s Auto Center/Atkins Masonry/Rocket. “I can’t ask for anything more
to tell you the truth,” said Lingo. “I seen Elliott’s nose a couple of time and
I knew he was going to be right on me if I made a mistake.” Jarvis finished in
the third spot with Dale Lingo fourth and Dave Hertz came on strong in the
closing laps to finish in fifth after starting in 15th.
The 15-lap Street Modified feature was highly competitive with Travis Justice
leading from the onset. Eddie Williams gave chase in second with Hal Browning
challenging in third. Browning took the second spot on lap five but Ross
Robinson took the spot from him the following lap and the chase was on.
Justice was able to hold off Robinson until the final lap when Robinson took the
lead going down the back straight and went on to his sixth win of his rookie
year in the Grotto Pizza/Shark’s Serivce Center/BRC. Justice finished a well
earned second with Kevin McKinney posting his best finish in third. Browning
finished in the fourth spot and point leader, Joe Warren finished in fifth. Fast
time in qualifying was set by Billy Melon.
The Little Lincoln cars had a heated battle in their 10-lap feature with Jim
Miller and Pat McNeal running wheel-to-wheel for the lead for the first half of
the race. By the second half, Miller was out front with McNeal in second and
Bill Brittingham, Jamie Wagner, Mel Joseph, Jr. and Ron Wilson all running in a
tight pack.
Miller, in the Jim’s Racing Tires ’57 Chevy, held off McNeal by half a car
length for his first win of the season. Wagner took third on the final lap with
Brittingham fourth and Joseph fifth.

ROOKIE MATT JESTER GETS 1ST BIG BLOCK WIN AT DELAWARE
By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE (8/5/06) – Matt Jester had set out the past six
weeks waiting for an engine. The wait was worth his while as the first year
driver in the Big Block Modifieds started on the pole and never looked back in
the non-stop 25-lap feature and collected his first career win in the division,
Saturday night at the Delaware International Speedway.
The first heat went to Donnie Radd and the second heat to Norman Short. Jester
ran a strong second in the heat and started on the pole in the feature. He
quickly established a fast line around the half mile in the high groove. Radd,
who had won the two previous weeks, was quick but only could watch as Jester
slowly pulled away. Point leader, H.J. Bunting was the first car to drop from
the race pulling to the infield on lap two.
At the halfway point Jester was working traffic and held a 2.5 seconds lead over
Radd. Norman Short was a distant third with Beau Wilkins and Jamie Mills
battling for fourth. Jester was patient in traffic and continued to open his
advantage with the race staying green. Mills got by Wilkins then caught and
passed Short for third on lap 17.
By the final lap, Jester was clear of traffic and more than six seconds ahead of
Radd. Mills was closing in on second but the checkered fell with the total time
of the race being 8:46.908. It was the first win for Jester in the Dave Andrews
Clearview Farms/Fiel/Teo. “This was definitely the best it could ever be,” said
Jester. “Everything was perfect tonight. I think setting out was probably one of
the best things – coming up here and watching what the guys were doing. I just
tried to lay down 25 smooth laps.”
Mills ended his drive in third after starting in eighth and moved into the point
lead. Short finished in the fourth spot with Wilkins rounding out the top five.
The AC Delco TSS Modified ran two 15-lap features the first of which was the
rained-out Camp Barnes Benefit event. The field had been set back on July 12th
which put fast qualifier, Ryan Walls on the pole. Joseph Watson worked past
Walls on the first laps and began chalking up the $34 per lap leader’s bonus.
Donnie Dutton made contact with Jack Mullins, Jr. while battling for second
which resulted in both cars restarting at the rear.
A great three car battle for the lead developed on the restart with Jordan
Watson pressuring his brother for the lead and Richard White adding to the
challenge. White got by Jordan Watson for second with two laps to go and took
the lead coming to the white flag. White, in the Baywood Greens/GM Crate/Teo
took the checkered. Jordan Watson got by Joseph Watson on the final lap for
second with Brad Trice and John Curtis rounding out the top five.
In the regular 15-lap AC Delco feature, Tom Evan led the first six laps before
Richard White took the lead. Jack Mullins followed into second and was
pressuring White when a lapped car spun in front of the lead pair. White got on
his brakes hard and Mullins ended up spinning to miss him and had to restart at
the rear. Trice chased White the rest of the distance but it was a perfect night
for Richard as his collected his second checkered of the evening. Dutton crossed
the line third but was light at the scale. Tom Curtis was awarded third with
Evans and Justin Griffith fifth.
Eighteen year old Aaron Bada survived a rash of yellow flags to lead from flag
to flag and win his first career feature at the speedway in the 15-lap Modified
Lite main. Brandon Dennis took second from Erik McKinney with five to go but
Bada was not to be denied as he drove a flawless final five laps to win in his
Bi-Rite Auto/Lightning. Dennis finished in second with McKinney, Steve White and
Herb Tunis rounding out the top five.

LINGO OVER LINGO IN DELAWARE LATE MODELS
Donald Lingo, Jr.’s comment following his second straight victory in the 20-lap
Late Model main was “we didn’t change much of anything for this week.” The
strategy appeared to be the right one as Lingo took the lead from Ray Davis, Jr.
to lead lap three and never looked back.
Davis led the first two laps before Lingo, who had started in fifth easily
pulled into the lead. One lap later, Dale Lingo in the only Ford powered car in
the field, moved into second. By the halfway sign the cousins had been joined by
David Hill in third. Kenny Pettyjohn was running in the fourth spot and Davis
was holding on to fifth.
Once again, Donald Lingo was the class of the field as the second half was all
green and he opened a 6.2 seconds lead to post his third win of the year in the
Lingo Marine/Rocket/GTO. Dale Lingo made it a “Lingo” sweep finishing in second
with Hill, Pettyjohn and Gary Simpson rounding out the top five. Heats were won
by David Pettyjohn and Donald Lingo, Jr.
Eddie Williams took command at the start of the 15-lap Street Modified feature
with Mike Wilson giving chase in second Ross Robinson started in the eighth spot
and was running third by lap four. Robinson took second from Wilson at the
halfway sign and then took the lead from Williams with five to go.
The impressive first year driver made no mistakes in the final laps as he drove
his Grotto Pizza/GM Crate Chevy to his fifth win of the season. Williams had a
season best in second with Joe Warren making a late race charge to finish in
third. Dale Bounds finished in fourth and Wilson fifth. Robinson set fast time
in qualifying.
The Side for 5 feature was far from over when the mud stopped flying at the
checkered. Officials went through several cars in the post race inspection
before finding Chris Martinez legal and declaring him the winner.

RADD REPEATS IN DELAWARE MODIFIEDS
By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE (7/29/06) – Donnie Radd may have gotten off to a
slow start when he teamed with Keith Colbourne early this season but the team
seems to have really hit its stride as Radd led wire to wire to capture his
second consecutive 25-lap feature Saturday night at the Delaware International
Speedway.
“We were good again tonight,” smiled Radd. “My dad helped me get this motor back
together. Other than that the track was beautiful tonight and the crew works
their butts off every week to get the car ready.
Radd set the pace from the drop of the green from his pole starting position.
The only caution in the event came on the first lap when Larry Crouse spun of
the first turn. Cliff Foskey battled with Beau Wilkins for second throughout the
first half.
At the crossed flags the top five were Radd, Wilkins, Foskey, H.J. Bunting and
Ricky Johnson. Radd worked lapped traffic throughout the second half to
perfection. Norman Short put on a good battle with Johnson for fifth and Bunting
was able to get by Foskey for third with four to go.
At this point Wilkins started to close in on Radd as traffic remained an issue.
Time ran out before a battle could develop as Radd, in the Cintas Uniform/Colbourne
Farms/Bicknell crossed under the checkered about three car lengths ahead of
Wilkins. Bunting finished in the third spot and move into soul position of the
points lead. Foskey finished in fourth with Johnson rounding out the top five.
Heats were won by Wilkins and Short.
Tim White led wire to wire to win the makeup Camp Barnes Benefit 15-lap Modified
Lite feature. White was elated with the victory saying that it is one of the
events that he has wanted to win throughout his career. The win was also a
profitable one as the race paid $400 to win plus White earned another $540 in
lap money! Teammate Steve White finished in the second spot with Brandon Dennis,
Herb Tunis and Randy Hill, Jr. rounding out the top five.
The tables were switched in the regular 15-lap Modified Lite main. Hill led the
first two laps before Mike Stratton moved on top. Stratton headed the field
until lap eight when Steve White took the point. White went on to record his
sixth win of the season in the R&F Auto/Al White/Lightning. Stratton finished a
season’s best in second with Tim White putting the cap on a good night finishing
in third. Herb Tunis and Erik McKinney rounded out the top five. Fast time in
qualifying was set by Steve White.
The 15-lap AC Delco TSS Modified feature was marred by two pileups in the first
two laps involving a total ten cars. Richard White stayed out front and out of
trouble. Ryan Walls moved to the high groove and went wheel to wheel with White
for two laps before taking the lead with four laps to go. Walls went on to his
third win of the season in the M&M Heating & Air/C&M Lawn Works/Teo. White
finished in the second spot with Joseph Tracy, Jack Mullins, Jr., and Brad Trice
rounding out the top three. Fast time in qualifying was set by Richard White.

DONALD LINGO, JR. MAKES THRILLING DRIVE FROM 17TH TO WIN LATE MODELS
07/29/2006
Donald Lingo, Jr. was a man on a mission Saturday night at Delaware
International. Lingo started in the 17th starting spot and made an inspired
outside groove drive to the front taking the lead from Kenny Pettyjohn with
three laps to go on going on to the win.
Lingo started deep in the field in the 20-lap main after a broken shock mount on
his left front wheel sent him to the pits in the qualifying heat. “It was a
pretty good race,” said the modest Lingo. “I didn’t know if we had enough time
to come from that far back but we seemed to make the topside work. Nobody else
was up there it kind of gave us the room to the ground that we needed to make in
the time we had.”
Ray Davis, Jr. looked strong at the drop of the green taking the lead from Bob
Geiger on lap one. David Pettyjohn quickly moved into second with Gary Simpson
following into third. Kenny Pettyjohn was on the fast track to the front from
his seventh starting spot taking second on lap five. At the same time Donald
Lingo moved into fifth from his 17th starting spot.
Kenny Pettyjohn took the lead on lap six with Simpson following into second. Two
laps later, Lingo was up to third with Ricky Elliott chasing in fourth. At the

with mechanical problems and David Pettyjohn moved back into the top five.
The race went the rest of the distance under the green with Lingo catching Kenny
Pettyjohn with five to go. The two battled side by side in the turns with
Pettyjohn moving out front down the straights. Lingo got a good run coming off
the fourth turn on lap 16 and took the lead for lap 17. Lingo, in the Lingo
Marine/Virgil Ellwanger Insurance/Grand Prix darted under the checkered for his
second win of the season. Kenny Pettyjohn finished in second with Elliott,
Simpson, and David Pettyjohn rounding out the top five. Heats were won by Jarvis
and David Hill.

win of his impressive rookie year. Bounds finished in the second spot with Joe
Warren coming on strong to finish in third. Williams finished in the fourth spot
and Mike Wilson rounded out the top five. Robinson set fast time in qualifying.

WEATHER KO’S ACTION AT DELAWARE INTERNATIONAL
Delmar, DE – Rain throughout Friday night into Saturday morning forced the
cancellation of racing at the Delaware International Speedway. By mid afternoon
the humid air and cloud cover had kept the grounds from drying. “We couldn’t get
any equipment on the track,” said Charlie Cathell, promoter of the clay
half-mile. We were looking at three to four hour to get the surface ready for
racing if we could have gotten on the surface so we were forced to cancel.
Action resumes this weekend with the Little Lincoln cars joining the five weekly
divisions plus the makeup Modified Lite feature that was rained out during the
Camp Barnes Benefit race. Gates open at 5 p.m. with hot laps at 7 p.m.

quickly as Craig Ott, Chuck Tucker, and Glen Reed tangled in turn one. Cliff
Foskey held the second spot on the restart with Robert Dutton in third. Ricky
