Cyco Custom Race Products Debuts With Carbon Fiber Product Line

By Doc Lehman

Indianapolis, IN --- Management has just officially announced the formation of Cyco Custom Race Products, a new manufacturer that produces and specializes in carbon fiber products and components for the racing industry with products focused primarily on dirt Late Models, Sprint Cars and Modifieds. The new company, formed by Cy Wilson and Clint Doll, have also launched a new website located at www.cycocustom.com  Cyco Custom is already drawing a lot of attention and interest, picking up customers on a daily basis from the world of racing.

“Cyco Custom is manufacturing light weight Carbon Fiber race car products. The lightweight product line ranges from hood scoops (4.5 ounces), wheel covers (4.5 ounces) to oil cooler covers (3.5 ounces), along with additional products in the Dirt Late Model market. We are also producing and paying special attention to Carbon Fiber Sprint Car and Modified components as well. Our entire product line can be found on-line at www.cycocustom.com ”  stated Cy Wilson, who will head up manufacturing from the Cyco Custom headquarters. “We’re introducing some new generation parts that are extremely light (mere ounces), mega strong and durable but yet extremely flexible and adaptable to any racecar.”

The flexibility and strength of the product was a major priority to Cyco Custom. And after much research the team has developed a specialty resin for the Carbon Fiber products that allows much needed flex for the products, but yet doesn't compromise the strength and integrity of the product!

"We all know how strong Carbon Fiber is, but our challenge was to make a product that would also adapt with the nature of a race car and allow for maximum flex, but still keep the strength and durability of the product unchanged,” continued Wilson. “After a lot of trial and error, we came up with the right combination. It's really unbelievable how far you can flex these parts and not hurt the product, but at the same time keeping the product lightweight and extremely strong and durable."

Wilson is a former dirt Late Model crew chief who spent a number of years on the team of Australian dirt Late Model star Craig Vosbergen in addition to administering crew and crew chief duties with such American stars as Steve Shaver and Eric Jacobsen, among others.

Some of first components being developed by Cyco Custom Race Products for Dirt Late Models include Hood Scoops, Air Boxes, Wheel Covers, Oil Cooler Covers, Roofs and Roof strips. In the Sprint Car market the company has produced Front Wing Caps, Top Wing Caps, Shock Covers and Wheel Covers. The Modified product line currently consists of roofs, roof strips, wheel covers, shock covers and oil cooler covers. Cyco Custom is currently working on additional product designs and hopes to have those available by mid-summer.

Carbon fiber is a high strength, high stiffness synthetic fiber that is used in a variety of structural and electrical applications. Carbon fiber composites have amazing structural properties. Carbon fiber composites are ten times stronger than steel, yet are still five times lighter. In comparison to aluminum, carbon fiber composites are eight times stronger, two times stiffer, but still 1.5 times lighter. Carbon fiber composites have superior fatigue properties to all known metallic structures, and when coupled with the proper resins, carbon fiber composites are one of the most corrosion resistant materials available.

“There is definitely a market for this,” added Wilson. “Time will tell in the next few months but interest has exceeded our original expectations.”

Wilson also feels his long tenure working in dirt racing allows Cyco Custom the advantage of knowing and understanding what teams want and need. “That’s been a big thing from our point of view,” commented Wilson. “It’s got to be practical as well as useful. It makes it a lot easier for us to relate to the drivers and teams and their wants and needs. The experience working on race cars the last 10 years has been an will be an extreme advantage for us when designing and developing the product.”

Among some of the drivers who are already using Cyco Custom Race Products components include dirt Late Model stars Earl Pearson, Jr., Matt Miller, Steve Shaver, Eric Jacobsen, Joe Kosiski, Eric Myers (who with Kyle Figley have been instrumental in the early stages), Jared Teegarden, Paul Wilmoth and Steve Wilmoth. Sprint Car drivers who have already began accumulating Cyco Custom race Products parts include Dean Jacobs, who participated in some design work, Brian Leppo and Jamie Martin while Modified star Kenny Johnson driving the Hassy Chassis house car is also a Cyco Custom race Products customer.

The new website, located at: http://www.cycocustom.com  is comprehensive and detailed. The website showcases each individual product and all the various options associated with each. The site is 100% E-Commerce oriented and allows for secure on-line purchasing by using any major credit card. Customers can call the Cyco Custom offices to place their order (304-210-8046). Product orders will ship with-in 24-hours of the order. Carbon Fiber product comes standard in a black/black carbon fiber finish with options of Silver/Silver. Cyco Custom can also custom paint the product (Wrisco Color Specs) to match the color scheme you are currently using on your racecar.

Another aspect of Cyco Custom is their Carbon Fiber Concept option. Any interested person can submit a concept part for a custom quote to produce in carbon fiber (not just race related parts). Cyco Custom will review the request and contact you with-in 48-hours with a custom quote to have your custom product produced.

"If you can dream it up, we can re-produce it with Carbon Fiber,” explained Wilson. “While we have our existing product line, anyone who is interested in a custom quote on anything they would like to have produced just needs to give us a call or fill out our ‘Custom Concept Form’ on-line."

For additional information on Cyco Custom Race Products contact the company at: Cyco Custom Race Products, PO Box 24564, Indianapolis, IN 46224. Telephone: 304-210-8046 or visit the website at: www.cycocustom.com

RANDY HALL COLLECTS USMC DUNHAM MEMORIAL CASH

E. Smethport, PA

Randy Hall, the hottest driver in the twin state region kept up his winning with another pair of wins Saturday night at McKean County Raceway. The  Maynard’s Electric super stocks were running their biggest event in track history on Armed Forces, Edmond Chevrolet/Ed Shults Toyota*Scion, Fassett  Lane Bldg and Home Center night. The two thousand dollar to win Jason  Dunham Memorial in honor of USMC Corporal Dunham, who died sacrificing  himself to save fellow marines in a grenade attack in April of 2004 in Iraq.

The two thousand dollar to win Jason Dunham Memorial for the Maynard  Electric super stocks was on tap. Rich Michael and current track point  leader Randy Hall paced the twenty-four super stocks to Tony VanPelt’s green flag. Hall jumped into the lead off turn two as Michael and Jeremy  Wonderling followed. The first yellow came on lap two for Junior Peters,  who was sitting in turn 2 facing the wrong direction. Hall again jumped into the lead and on lap four, defending track champion TJ Shaw moved into
the top three as him and Jeff Cheesebro pushed Wonderling back to fifth.

Lap five saw Hall still in front with Todd Hansen jumping into the top five  from his twelfth starting spot. Hansen would dispose of Cheesebro on lap 7  for the fourth spot as he followed the trio of Hall, Michael and Shaw. Lap  9 yellow eliminated two of the top four runners as Hansen came to a stop on
the backstretch and the third place car of TJ Shaw stopped on the front  stretch, both were done for the night. Hall, Michael, Cheesebro, Jeremy Wonderling and Steve Dixon rounded out the top five. On the restart Mr. Excitement, Jeremy Wonderling made a great move to jump into second and was  looking to repeat his win from the night before at Black Rock but that came to a end on lap 12 when he spun off turn two resulting in another yellow.

During this caution, third place runner, Rich Michael went pitside with a left rear flat. Cheesbro would not inherit second behind the fast blue #10 of Hall, while Steve Fields was sitting a surprising third with Tim Schram and Dixon rounding out the top five. Hall would sprint out in front of the field on the restart and would lead non stop the last seventeen laps. The true race now was behind Hall in the field as the ageless veteran, Ron Baker moved into the top five on lap 17, but only was there for a lap as fifteenth
starter, AJ Young moved into the top five. Lap 20 saw AJ dispose of Fields for fourth and it appeared the #33 of Young was the only car that may have a  shot at the leader Hall if there another caution appeared. As the laps  clicked off, Hall was in another zipcode and the battle now was for fifth as
Dixon got around Fields for the position and on lap six, Dave Miller put Fields back to seventh as Miller charged from shotgun position in the field.

But, it would be Randy Hall winning his biggest payday of his career  easily over Cheesbro, Schram, Young and Dixon.

A very emotional post race ceremony included the members of the four military branches, the Dunham family, friends and members of the Hall racing  team as they honored Jason Dunham. A very beautiful military style plaque  was awarded to Hall. In a very classy move the Olean, NY driver turned and  gave it back to Dan Dunham and family. The three heat race winners were Todd  Rice, Hansen and Cheesbro.

A misty rain returned to the track just as the Advantage Rental Sportsman entered the track for their main event that saw Jeremy Ensell and Shaun  Freeland on the front row. Ensell would jump into the lead out of turn two. Third place starter, Billy Uhl followed into second. Jim Meyers brought  out the first  yellow on lap 2 as he spun his yellow #45 in turn three. On  the restart, Ensell could not hold off the Zippo sponsored #34 of Uhl as  Ryan Learn leaped into second ahead of Ensell. The fifth lap marker still  saw Uhl in front but Randy Hall was rim riding his way into the fifth  position. A lap six yellow for the spun cars of Meyers and John Woodward in  turn one tighten up the field as two of the top sportsman cars of Greg Oakes  and Hall were sitting third and fifth. Oakes had a great restart and on  lap  seven beat Uhl to the line as Hall went to the top side again to jump up to third over Travis Asel and Rich Michael. Lap nine would see Hall move into  second as Uhl would be third and Michael and Asel swapped positions.

Lap eleven saw a five car caution being waved in turn three for Ensell,  Woodward, Meyers, Terry Pangrazio and Shaun Freeland. The final four laps  were just awesome as Oakes and Hall went at it again as they did one week  earlier and on lap fourteen of the fifteen lap event, Hall went to the low  side of Oakes to grab the lead as Uhl was still sitting in third. Hall  would win by two car lengths over Oakes  as the top duo finished 1-2 for the   second week in a row, Uhl was third, Michael and Asel rounded out the top five. Heat winners were Learn and Meyers.

The Coca-Cola street stocks rolled onto the speedway as the light mist had  subsided and Lance Palmer would jump into the lead over John Miller at the  start. This event went without a yellow and Palmer made use of his front  row starting spot. Point leader, Andy Michael moved into fifth on lap seven  as he was charging from his eleventh place starting spot. Two laps later,  he put Justin Tatlow back to fifth and on lap twelve he moved into third,  but there was no catching Lance Palmer as he won easily of Mike Asel, Michael, Tatlow and Vic Vena. Heat winners were: Brad Bigley, Brett Smith  and Chris Austin.

The R&M Home and Auto / AMSOIL mini stocks were up next as the late evening  was approaching Sunday morning. Smethport driver, Dan Cunningham set pace  for the 4cyl mini stocks. The past few weeks, the #35 of Cunningham has been improving, but snake bitten with bad luck. That all changed on this  night as he lead the entire distance on won his first feature event of his  career and became the fourth different winner in the mini stocks this year.

The Interstate Micro Mini sprints were on hand for the night at their fifteen lap feature saw Chris Stanko and Steve Dunmire pacing the field.  Dunmire immediately grabbed the lead and would never be  challenged. The top five were Dunmire, point leader Jay Groves, Doug Karlene, Robert Robertson
and Mike Shall.

During a break between the heat events and the main feature, current United Late Model Series point leader and all-time MCR Late Model feature winner,  Todd Andrews hot lapped his brand new CJ Rayburn dirt late model and  unofficially broke the track record of 15.02 seconds set by Mike Balzano
with a lap of 14.9 around the very tacky and fast 1/3 mile oval.

The MCR management team of Ken Leet, Rod Biehler and Tom Gleason would like to thank all the fans for coming out despite the inclement weather which saw  a rain storm around 6PM that pushed the starting time back a hour and a  half. McKean County Raceway will be dark this coming Saturday night but  will be back in action on Saturday, June 17th with a R&M Home and Auto /  AMSOIL mini stock special and round out the month of June with two special “THURSDAY NIGHT THUNDERS” that will feature the return of the United Late Model Series and the ground pounding dirt late models.

JEREMY FUNK & BRUCE HIBBS WIN AT KUTZTOWN

I know Gregg will have the complete finishing order for each division (at least I'm hoping he got them), but I thought I would list the top five from each division in the meantime...
Jesse Hartman appeared to have the field covered in Wednesday night's 270cc feature at the Fairgrounds. Hartman's mount broke at the halfway point, though, handing the top spot over to Jeremy Funk. Jeremy then held off a determined Pat Bealer over the final ten laps to record the victory.

Bruce Hibbs, Jr. notched the 600cc triumph. Brett Arndt, who started 9th, made life miserable for Hibbs for most of the 20-lapper, but Bruce slowly extended his advantage during the last few laps, taking the checkered by several car lengths.

Brunnhoelzl Notches First Career Modified Victory at Mountain Speedway

St. Johns, PA- Many area tracks succumbed to Mother Nature Saturday, but passing showers never touched the asphalt on the third-miler. Instead, Eddie Brunnhoelzl was showered with applause in victory lane after he grabbed his first career-modified victory at the facility.

The 30-lap Balliet’s Country Corners modified feature began with Ernie Dengler pacing the field to the drop of the green flag. After leading one lap, Dengler was out muscled by Eddie Brunnhoelzl for the top spot.

Brunnhoelzl remained out front with Andy Walko and Chris Whitenight hot on his tail. Chaz Serman joined the mix and swapped positions with Whitenight after a few laps. With twelve laps in the books, Brian Defebo got underneath Walko for second as they entered turn one. Defebo appeared to have the car to beat, as he quickly reeled in Brunnhoelzl.

With a bold turn one maneuver, Defebo grabbed the top spot in lap twenty. The pass however, was called back because the caution waved under the same lap when Don Wagner had problems near the pit exit. It was under the same caution that Defebo gave up his second position on the track and went pit side. He did not return to action.

With twenty-six laps completed it was still Brunnhoelzl out front, but now over Rusty Smith. The two waged a door-to-door battle until the second and final yellow flew when Whitenight got into Kory Rabenold in turn one.

Despite heavy pressure from Smith, Brunnhoelzl held on for the hard fought win, enroot to his first career modified victory at the speedway. Smith finished second, while Walko, Wayne Szerencsits and Serman rounded out the top five. “This feels awesome”, noted the young Long Island, NY hot shoe (Brunnhoelzl). “We didn’t have the best car out there, but once twenty-six laps were in, there was no way I was going to let anyone by me”.

Tim Santee and Eddie Brunnhoelzl won heat races.

Beau Drobot paced the late model field to the drop of the green flag in the 25-lap feature, but Mike Rodriguez, Jr. made an inside bid for the lead as the two entered turn three. As the two raced side-by-side they touched. The end result was a red fag condition after Rodriguez nailed the turn four wall. Rodriguez seemed shook up, but was uninjured. Joe Hoffman was also collected in the incident.

Mike Coll assumed the top spot for the restart. Although out front, Coll had to contend with Drobot and Joe Barbush, as the two were determined to catch and dispose of Coll. While the two were racing out of turn two, Drobot checked up and Barbush got into the back end of him, which sent him around. Both drivers restarted from the tail end of the field, which moved Hoffman up to second.

Hoffman made his attempt for the lead when he drove underneath Coll as they raced down the backstretch. The two touched and Hoffman went spinning, which brought out the lap thirteen yellow. Hoffman was done for the day.

Coll (Long Island, NY) remained out front over the closing laps and cruised to his second feature win of the season over Joe Brown, Drobot, Barbush and Joe Oliver.

Beau Drobot won the heat race.

The 20-lap street stock feature took the stage and Glenn Heckman paced the field from the pole. Heckman held off Barry Callavini, Brad Barbush and Eric Danyluk during the opening laps, but Barbush took command with five laps in the books.

Barbush remained in command by mid-race, but the battle for second grew between Norm Barnes, Jim Yamelski, Paul Frantz and Scott Meckes. When they weren’t two and three wide, the top four or five cars were literally nose-to-tail. Meckes eventually worked his way around Barnes and Frantz, and then went after Yamelski in hot pursuit of second. Again, side-by-side, they dueled for the spot.

With the two fighting for second, Barbush (Drums, PA) went on to pick up his first street stock feature win in nearly two years. Yamelski edged out Meckes for second. Frantz and Barnes rounded out the top five.

After winning the heat race earlier in the evening, Jamie Damon started the 20-lap four-cylinder thriller feature from the pole. He paced the field to the green with Travis Fisher to his outside. Damon shot out front when the green flew, and Fisher glued himself to Damon’s rear bumper.

After starting third, Duane Garrison got underneath Fisher for second. He brought Harry Sager and Joe Sherman with him. By mid-race, it was still Damon out front, but Garrison and Sager fought relentlessly for second. At this point in the race, Bill Halstead joined the top five.

A quick caution for debris flew with thirteen laps in. When green flag racing resumed, Damon continued out front. Although pressured from all of the cars in the top five, Damon (Fern Glen, PA) held his line over the remaining laps and scored his first career victory.

Woot Lawrence grabbed the heat win in the 4C super modifieds, which gave him the pole position for the 20-lap feature. In dominating fashion, Lawrence took the win over Mike Renn and Greg Thomas.

Twin 20’s This Week For Geisler Racing

Cranberry, PA (May 30, 2006) The Geisler Racing team and 2005 National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame Inductee, Lynn Geisler made their way to Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway for twin 20-lap features this past Saturday after rain forced the cancellation of Friday’s festivities at the Lernerville Speedway.

Geisler would start on the outside of the front row in the first 20-lap feature event along side defending track champion John Flinner. Third starting Michael Davis got a great start when the green flag dropped to put Geisler back to the third position as current PPMS point leader Lou Bradich also got by. After a caution, Bradich took the lead from Davis and one lap later Geisler also got by Davis to put his #1 Cochran Rocket Chassis back up to the second spot. Geisler was reeling in Bradich only to have something on the car fail going into turn three. Lynn was unable to keep the car off of the wall and had to retire from the first 20-lap feature event with a 17th place finish.

In between feature’s the Geisler Gang were hard at work getting the #1 Cochran Automotive, Marshall Stamping, Groff Tractor & Equipment Inc., Tri-State Hose & Supply, Bolea Oil, Rocket Chassis GTO ready for the second 20-lap feature event. The crew was able to the car race ready for the second race as Lynn would have to start the event in the 15th position. Lynn seemed to have one of the fastest race cars on the track but just not enough time as he was able to make his way up to the 8th position when the checkered flag fell. Lynn was awarded the Hard Charger award for his efforts.

The team will again be at Lernerville Speedway this upcoming Friday as well as PPMS on Saturday. Next week, June 9th, will be “Fan Appreciation Night” at the Lernerville Speedway as well as #1 Cochran Night. Not only will there be a spectacular Zambelli ground and aerial Fireworks display, Lynn Geisler will also have his car on display and signing autographs before the action gets underway.

Fitzgerald, Pease and Stewart Take ‘NEETS ‘Racin Rich Johnson Memorial Wins

St Johns, PA- High temperatures and sunny skies set the stage for the running of the ABC Car Crushing NEETS Holiday Stock Car Series ‘Racin Rich Johnson Memorial Monday at Mountain Speedway. Johnson’s long time friend and former teammate, Ray Fitzgerald, took the hard fought win over Tim Pauch in the Cascioli Roofing 6/8 cylinder division, while Ollie Stewart grabbed the Steel Seal 4 cylinder win over Joe Sherman. Bobby “Peaseman” Pease took the 49-lap Custom Classic TRUX victory over Rob McCormick and dedicated the win to Johnson’s family.

First on the card was the 6/8 cylinder division. Cindy Johnson was in attendance with Rich Johnson’s former Riverhead enduro car, which she paced the field with from the pole position in memory of her late husband. The fans all showed the #1 signal, in memory of ‘Racin Rich Johnson as Cindy came down the front stretch before pulling off the speedway.

“Slippery” Tom Slee led a field of sixty-four Cascioli Roofing 6/8 cylinder to the drop of the green flag, but was immediately overtaken by Richard Petey. Terry Nansteel worked through the traffic up front and passed Petey for the top spot with five laps in the books. However, Petey regained command after a red flag was thrown for April Makarewicz and Phil Lomanco when they collected on the front stretch.

Only a few laps after green flag racing resumed, Ray Fitzgerald caught and passed Petey. The two fought side-by-side for a number of laps, which allowed Ray Rothfuss and Dave Cascioli to close in. Rothfuss took command of the event on lap twenty-seven, but hit the pits with problems only nine circuits later.

Petey and Fitzgerald swapped the lead on six separate occasions over the remaining laps, but problems for Petey forced him to the infield for a couple of circuits. Over the laps remaining, it was Fitzgerald out front, but a hard charging Tim Pauch closed in fast. When the white flag flew, the two were nose to tail. Pauch attempted a low side pass out of turn four to the checkers, but was beaten by a tenth of a second, as Fitzgerald picked up his fourth NEETS win in his last four starts. Bobby Pease, Howie Bott and Dave Cascioli rounded out the top five.

The NEETS Custom Classic TRUX was up next with their 49-lap event. Jim Rotalano started on the pole and led the first fifteen circuits, but it didn’t take Harry Sager long to reel in the leader and take the top spot. In the meantime, Bobby Pease and Rob McCormick dueled side-by-side for second.

Pease disposed of McCormick and set his sights on Sager. With twenty-four laps in, Pease took control of the race and never looked back as he took the win over McCormick, John Cozza, Sager and Frank Katona. “It was a great day for me here today”, noted Pease. “My buddy Rich (Johnson) is here with all of us in spirit. This is for his family, in honor of him”.

The Steel Seal four cylinders were last to run, with a 99-lap enduro. Kenny Ferrer led the eighty-two-car field to the drop of the green, but Bob Haeger immediately shot out front. Without even a lap completed, the red flag flew when Gwen Sakowski and Bobby Coco collected off of turn four. Scott Ball then slid into the mix and his car rolled onto its side. Ball was uninjured, but not able to continue.

Jim Sykes grabbed the lead when racing resumed. At one point, Sykes had almost a half lap advantage on Ollie Stewart, who was running second, but that all changed when Sykes machine began overheating with thirty-five laps in the books. With Stewart in command, Joe Grocholski and Robin Vollmoeller battled their way into second and third respectively. Joe Sherman and Mike Mujsce also entered the top five.

Vollmoeller and Grocholski got around Stewart on lap sixty-two when a car stalled in turn three. When racing resumed Vollmoeller flattened a tire and headed pit side. Grocholski still led over Stewart, but with only four laps remaining, the leader encountered heavy lapped traffic. While working the traffic, Grocholski cut a tire and lost the lead. Stewart led the remaining circuits enroot to his first NEETS win. In victory lane, he commented that he used to race at Freeport Speedway and also at Riverhead Raceway with Robin Vollmoeller.

NEETS driver, Joe Cooper, sponsored lap 29 in the two car races. Joe gave $100 to the driver who led that lap in each division, along with $75 to the second and third place runners. Ray Rothfuss took the top cash in the 6/8 cylinders. Later, Ollie Stewart grabbed the top bonus in the 4 cyl. class. The same bonus was applied for the TRUX at lap 25. Bobby Pease won the top cash prize in that division.

The next NEETS Holiday Stock Car Series event is the “Firecracker Smacker” on July 2nd. For more info on the NEETS enduros, please visit www.neetstour.net

Upcoming events: Monday, May 29th: ABC Car Crushing NEETS Holiday Stock Car Series ‘Racin Rich Johnson Memorial, featuring 4 cyl, 6/8 cyl. and TRUX enduros

Saturday, June 3rd: regular show featuring modifieds, late models, street stocks, 4 cyl. thrillers plus 4C super modifieds (thrillers are off)

Barbush, Meckes, Price, Sherman and Tomson Shine in Mountain Victory Lane

St. Johns, PA- Mountain Speedway fans enjoyed the warm weather and side-by-side racing during Reading Phillies Night Saturday at Mountain Speedway. When it was all said and done, Joe Barbush was awarded his first late model feature win of the season, while Scott Meckes notched his second street stock victory of the year. Bill Price grabbed the thriller feature, Joe Sherman notched his first career four-cylinder thriller win and Tim Tompson grabbed the win in the Tri-State Locating Keystone Legends.

Beau Drobot and Joe Barbush shared the front row for the 25-lap late model feature. When the green waved it was Barbush and Drobot wheeling it out, side-by-side. The two made contact and Barbush spun to the infield. However, Drobot wasn’t as lucky and slammed the backstretch retaining wall. Billy Pruitt was also collected in the incident.

Mike Coll assumed command on the restart with Joe Hoffman in tow. Hoffman worked both the high and low groove with hopes of overtaking the leader. While exiting turn two, Hoffman drove underneath Coll and it appeared he would be in charge of the event. Unfortunately, Hoffman and the leader made slight contact, which turned Hoffman around. He restarted from the rear of the field.

Mike Rodriguez moved into second and set his sights on Coll. On the seventeenth circuit, Rodriguez appeared to attempt the outside maneuver on Coll out of turn four, but then drove down and underneath the leader. The two touched and Rodriguez came out on top.

Over the final laps, Rodriguez held off charges by Barbush and appeared to pick up his second straight late model victory of the season. However, after crossing the scales in post race tech, Rodriguez was disqualified and Barbush (Drums, PA) was declared the winner. It is his first late model victory since ’04. Joe Brown, Joe Hoffman, Frank Katona and Joe Barretta rounded out the rest of the top five.

Beau Drobot and Joe Barbush were heat winners.

The 20-lap street stock feature began with Norman Barnes leading the first nine circuits after starting at the point. The caution flew with only nine laps in the books when Jim Yamelski got into John Stonier as they two entered turn three. When racing resumed it was still Barnes out in front of Scott Meckes, Eric Danyluk, Paul Frantz and Glen Heckman.

With ten laps in the books, Frantz attempted the pass on Danyluk for third. The two tangled for a bit, but Rich Dimarco happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time and went around. He rejoined the tail end of the field.

On the restart, Meckes (Leighton, PA) after staring eighth jumped in front of Barnes and drove off to victory. Meckes is also the current point leader in the division. Rounding out the top five were Barnes, Paul Frantz, Eric Danyluk and Brad Barbush.

Scott Meckes and Brad Barbush also took heat wins.

The exciting thrillers took to the asphalt with Marissa Nelmes leading the herd for the 20-lap show. It took one lap for Steve Schultz to take advantage off of turn four and move into the top slot. With two laps in the books, Dave Cascioli had a solo spin in turn one. Only two laps later, Joe Kmetz got turned around and collected Mike Skelly.

Shultz assumed command on the restart, but Bill Price and Ricky Ross were coming in a hurry. Ross attempted to overtake second from Price on lap eight, but spun out in the process. He restarted from the rear of the field.

After racing three wide on a number of occasions, Bill Price (Luzerne, PA) overtook Schulz after the halfway point going into three. Three more cautions slowed the event after that, but in the end, it was Price, who drove to his second win of the season over Shultz, Kevin Makarewicz, Josh Oswald and Howie Bott.

Bill Price and Rick Ross were heat race winners.

Scott Adams and Kevin Price shared the front row for the start of the 20-lap four-cylinder thriller feature. Price appeared to have a fast car, but his day ended early when he collided with the turn three fence. Another quick caution flew when Travis Fisher spun in turn one with only one lap completed.

With Adams in command, Jamie Damon took charge with three circuits in the books. At the halfway point is was still Damon out front over Harry Sager and Joe Sherman. The yellow waved again on the following circuit when Adams and Kyle Heckman collected on the front stretch.

Damon looked strong in the closing laps, but had to contend with Harry Sager and Joe Sherman. While entering turn three on the final lap, Sager attempted the last chance pass for the win. In doing so, contact was made and Sherman rocketed to the outside for the win over Damon, Sager, Duane Garrison and Jen White. It was Sherman’s first career victory.

Joe Sherman and Kevin Price won heat races.

Craig Rochelle led the Tri-State Locating Keystone Legend field to the drop of the green in the 20-lap feature. With eleven laps in the books, Tim Tomson took control of the event and never looked back, claiming the win. Previous to the start of the feature, Tomson was only two points out of the lead in the series. Following the win, he is the unofficial point leader.

Jason and Craig Rochelle won heat races.

The next regular Mountain Speedway show will be on Saturday, June 3rd. On the card for the evening are the modifieds, late models, street stocks, and 4 cyl. thrillers, plus 4C super modifieds. The thrillers are off for the weekend. For the latest Mountain Speedway happenings, please visit www.mountainspeedway.com.

June 2nd PennCan Slingshot Date Cancelled

The weather situation at PennCan has pushed back the proposed building of the small track at this fine Susquehanna, Pa facility resulting in the cancellation of the Southern/Northeastern Region Tour race for the Slingshot by Tobias Series.  PennCan has offered the Slingshots the use of the regular 3/8th mile clay oval to be a part of the evening's festivities but the Slingshots were designed and built for tracks in the 1/4 to 1/5th mile range.  Gearing and engine strain would be a problem with a speedway this size.

Reed Miller and his staff have been very cooperative in having the Slingshots be a part of the PennCan 2006 schedule.  If the smaller size track does become a reality in the 2006 season the Briggs & Stratton Slingshot by Tobias Series would love to be a part of the welcomed addition.

With an average of 31 cars signing in for the Southern Region Tour races so far this season, the top 20 drivers in points were all looking for this date on the schedule.  A later date will be determined if Speedway Entertainment gets the good news from Reed Miller that the smaller track was completed.

'Nitro" Nick Pecko and Marc "The Man" Daniels have been 2 drivers leading the way so far this season.  Joltin' Jim Housworth has been racking up wins this season and was victorious in the Southern Region stop at the Kutztown Fairgrounds opener.  Don't count out a trip to "The Can" for the 2006 season.

Upcoming tour races will find the Wyoming County International Speedway entertaining the Northwestern Region on the 4th of June.  The Perry, NY 1/3rd mile asphalt oval should make for some high speed Slingshot action with Mike Mahaney leading the Northwestern Region after a weekend of wins at Starlite and Paradise Speedways.  Briggs & Stratton Slingshot by Tobias info and schedule can be viewed at www.slingshotbytobias.com.

                                                       Geisler’s Luck Changes At PPMS

Cranberry, PA (May 24, 2006) The Geisler Racing team and 2005 National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame Inductee, Lynn Geisler finally broke a string of bad finishes this past weekend at Pittsburgh’s PA Motor Speedway.

Lynn decided to bring out his ‘spec’ motored Rocket Chassis this past weekend at PPMS with hopes of changing his luck at “Dirt’s Monster Half Mile”. The change did just that as Lynn would have his best finish of the season at the Pennsylvania speed plant with a second place run.

The finish moved Geisler up to 7th in the point standings at Pittsburgh’s PA Motor Speedway trailing point leader Lou Bradich by 63 points. Lynn also leads the Budweiser point standing at the Lernerville Speedway by 19 points over Ken Schaltenbrand.

This weekend the team will be in action at the Lernerville Speedway on Friday as well as Pittsburgh’s PA Motor Speedway on Saturday.

Also with some exciting news is Lynn’s son, Travis Geisler. Travis, who is 25, has been named temporary race engineer of Dale Jarrett's #88 on the Nextel Cup Circuit. The Cranberry Township native served in that role Saturday at Lowes Motor Speedway's Nextel Cup All Star Challenge, and will continue in that role for the next three weeks. Jarrett's team was temporary restructured after a four-week suspension of crew chief Richard "Slugger" Labbe, was upheld Thursday, May 18th. Labbe will not return to racing until the Michigan race, June 18th. Geisler said, "I wouldn't call it a promotion, but it's a great opportunity to accelerate my learning curve. This is how I see myself making a living." Geisler, a former driver in both the ARCA and Busch Circuits, was unable to secure a ride last season and instead, decided to put his Vanderbilt Mechanical Engineering degree to use this year. He signed with Robert Yates Racing team and works with the ARCA team and also the No. 90 Busch team of Matt McCall, age 24 and Steven Leicht, age 20 and now the Nextel Cup car. As an engineer, Geisler serves as a consultant to the crew chief. He keeps up with all the changes and data on the car, pools the information, and presents it to the crew chief. Geisler said, "I have a chance to keep a hand in getting cars to go faster. It isn't behind a wheel but it is the next best thing!" In addition to working with Jarrett's team Geisler will also be working with Tommy Baldwin, crew chief of Elliot Sadler's No. 38. Geisler added, "There is a lot of communication and sharing of information. That's the benefit of working for a multi-car team."

Lynn Geisler and Geisler Racing would like to thank all of their sponsors and supporters:
#1 Cochran GM MegaCenter, Hotsy, Marshall Stamping, Groff Tractor & Equipment Inc., Tri-State Hose & Supply, Bolea Oil, Rocket Chassis, Easy Care, American Race Tire, Lias Tire, Rhodes Performance, Afco Shocks, Appleton Power Rack & Pinions, Barry Grant, BultlerBuilt Motorsports Equipment, Calico Coatings, DirtTrackDigest.com, Dynatech, Frankland Racing Supply, Kunzler Signs & Decals, Mechanix Wear, Scott Performance Wire, Setrab Oil Coolers, Speed Bear Fasteners, Stewart Warner, Turbo Blue Racing Fuel, Ultra Shield Race Products, and Wrisco Industries Inc.

Paul Wilmoth Jr wins first of year at the Tyler County Speedway

Images

By Bob Reed

Middlebourne, WV. 5/20/2006. Paul Wilmoth Jr , ”The Gambler”, driving the Gary Midcap owned #B1 Rocket let all 25 laps at the Tyler County Speedway to capture his first Midcap Land & Timber LM feature of the 2006 season.

Wilmoth told me that the car has not been right all year. He feels that they have now solved their problems and that the car should be good from now on just in time for some of the big shows coming up in the next weeks.

On the first attempt at a start 8th starting Gary Knollinger ended up on the front end of the #68 of Pat Carlin with Richard Frazier making contact with them and spinning. This negated polesitter Wilmoth’s good jump on outside polesitter Steve Weigle. On the second start Wilmoth again got the jump and led Weigle, 3d starting Doug Eaton, Donnie Dotson and Doug Baumburger on the first lap. Wilmoth was increasing his lead by a big margin when Weigle and Eaton got together coming off turn 2 on lap 3 which eliminated Weigle. At the same time Conley who had been dropping back through the field from his 4th starting spot lost his air cleaner and retired. As it turned out these two were the only cars who didn’t complete the entire distance.

When the green again flew Wilmoth increased his lead every lap and when the caution flew with 10 laps to go led 2d place Eaton by over ½ track. The yellow closed up the field but didn’t bother Wilmoth as at the green he again jumped out to a big lead and increased it every lap. But Eaton now had a battle on his hands as both Baumberger and Dotson were all over him. First Baumberger and then Dotson challenged him. Finally with less than five laps to go Dotson got a run on the top around both Baumberger and Eaton and took 2d for his best finish of the year.

At the checkered Wilmoth had a huge lead over Dotson who was closely followed by Baumberger, D.J. Pellen who nipped Eaton for 5th on the last lap. Heats to Wilmoth and Weigle.

Notes: Only 12 cars in the pits with 11 starting the feature. 9 cars were running after 25 laps. Only 5 cautions slowed the action.

Wilmoth’s Monte Carlo LM is powered by a Chevrolet engine built by M&H Racing Engines. Sponsors are NAPA Auto Parts of Clarksburg, M&H Racing Engines, Adkins Timber Products, Midcap Trucking Co and Hoosier.

Notes: It heat race action Scott Irvin hit the 4th turn wall and did major damage to his #3 Rocket and loaded up for the night.

In Litman Excavating SL action Gary Midcap won his 2d of the year and 2d in a row by leading all 20 laps from the pole to win over Billy Brown, Dusty Hamrick, M.T. Hall and Bucky Rine. Midcap hit the outside wall and lost his right side spoil on the 2d lap but no one could take advantage as Brown, Hamrick and Hall fought the entire distance for 2d. Each took a turn running in 2d and lost it to one of the others. The final order wasn’t settled until the last lap with Brown barely edging out Hamrick with Hall close behind.

Notes: Only 12 cars in the pits with 11 starting the feature. All 11 completed the 20 laps.

Notes: In heat race action Eric Hudkins destroyed his car when he hit the front straight wall and barrel rolled 4 or 5 times down the track. Eric was unhurt but the car was taken off on two wreckers. His crew told me it was junk. Shock towers and the frame were bent badly.

Darrin Glover bested a short field of 8 for his 2d win of the year and 2d ever at the Tyler County Speedway in Sound Source AMRA modified action. Tom Sigler was 2d followed by Dale Keplinger, Mark Deitch and Steve Higgins. Glover also won the heat.

Santee and Smith are Back in Victory Lane at Mountain

St. Johns, Pa- The action was furious and the pace was fast Saturday night at Mountain Speedway. Tim Santee visited victory lane for the first time in three years during the 30-lap make-up modified feature from last week and Rusty Smith visited victory lane in the second 30-lap modified feature. Paul Frantz took his first street stock win of the season, as did Mike Rodriguez, Jr. in the late models. Gary Slusser won the TRUX Exhibition event.

The field was set after last week’s modified feature rainout. Palmerton’s Tim Santee started on the pole for the 30-lap Balliet’s Country Corners modified showdown. Santee held the point over Andy Walko after the start, but Lou Strohl was all over the rear end of Walko’s #21.

The first of two Ernie Dengler spins was with two laps on the board. Santee continued out front when racing resumed. At the halfway point his lead was over Strohl, Walko, Eddie Brunnhoelzl and Kory Rabenold.

The event slowed one more time with twenty-eight laps in the books when Walko spun in turn three. With a two-lap shootout at stake, Santee continued out front in the ProLog #X6 and took his first feature win in over three years over Strohl, Rabenold, Brian Defebo and Ryan Russo.

“This is a great one after such a dry spell”. “The track was slick out there. I really have to give credit to these guys who help me out with the car” said Santee.

Eddie Brunnhoelzl and Alan Decker won heat races last week for the make-up feature.

Andy Walko started from the pole in another exciting 30-lapper for the modifieds. He shot out front on the initial start over Chris Whitenight, Marissa Niederauer and Lou Strohl. A few circuits later, Niederauer disposed of Whitenight and set her sights on the leader.

The caution waved with six laps in the books when Zane Zeiner had mechanical problems with his machine. After heading pit side, Zeiner did not return to the speedway.

With Walko still in command at halfway, Eddie Brunnhoelzl and Lou Strohl put the pressure to the leader. At that point in the race, Niederauer held fourth and Rusty Smith worked his way into the top five.

Lap after lap, Brunnhoelzl looked high and low for a line around Walko, but the caution flew again with twenty-three laps in the books when Strohl was spun from his third spot. It was after the next restart when things got interesting.

The green waved and Brunnhoelzl took a look outside of Walko. As the two dueled side-by-side into turn three there was slight contact. Walko spun out of contention, and Brunnhoelzl was sent to the rear for his part in the racing incident. Being in the right place at the right time, Smith inherited the lead while running third.

Smith continued out front over the remaining laps, enroot to his first victory of the season over Whitenight, Tony Hanbury, John Markovic and Kory Rabenold. In victory lane Oxford, NY racer noted that the speedway was a great facility, but he wished there were more fans present to help cheer on the drivers. “Man, this is a great win. I was just plain lucky today. Sometimes ya win them that way”, noted Smith.

Eddie Brunnhoelzl, Chris Whitenight and Lou Strohl won heat races.

Mike Rodriguez, Jr. started from the pole position in the 25-lap late model feature. The second-generation driver from Drums, Pa took the green flag and shot into command over Joe Barbush, Joe Hoffman and Billy Pruitt. However, the first of three caution flags flew when Steve Taylor’s ride caught fire in turn four. The small fire was contained under the hood.

Again, Rodriguez was flawless on the restart and continued to hold off Hoffman and Pruitt. Pruitt overtook Hoffman for second for a moment, but rubbin’ and racin’ forced Pruitt to relinquish his second spot when he was black flagged for sheet metal rubbing his right front tire.

A pair of Joe Barretta spins brought out a pair of lap nineteen yellows, but like previous restarts, Rodriguez shot out front over Hoffman.

Rodriguez, from Drums, Pa, continued on to his first victory of the season over Hoffman, Barry Gommer, Beau Drobot and Joe Barretta. Rodriguez also won the heat race earlier in the evening.

Jimmy ‘the kid’ White brought the street stock field to the drop of the green for their 20-lap feature, but by the time one lap clicked off Brad Kline was out front after starting on the outside of the front row.

With four laps in the books, Frank Reakes made contact with Norman Barnes when racing down the backstretch. Barnes spun to the infield and Reakes spun in turn three. Gary VanOrden and Glenn Heckman were also collected. Reakes continued on, but VanOrden was finished for the evening.

Again, Kline shot out front on the restart, but Frantz jumped to the outside. The two waged a terrific side-by-side battle for a number of laps until Frantz finally took command with six laps in the books.

Frantz from Scheidys, Pa continued out front over the closing laps and captured his first street stock victory of the season over Scott Meckes, Brad Kline, Eric Danyluk and Robert Fink. Frantz dedicated his win in the 20-lap feature to his friend and former teammate, Shaun Burd, who recently suffered severe burns in a work related accident.

Scott Meckes, Jimmy White, Jr. and Glenn Heckman won street stock heat races.

The NEETS ‘TRUX’ were on hand for a special 20-lap exhibition feature. The race was not run as an enduro; instead it was run as a weekly division class with caution flags, etc.

In dominating fashion, West Nanticoke’s Gary Slusser won the exhibition 20-lap TRUX feature over Ken Gregor, Gil Smith, Jeff Gregor and Erin Bartley. Slusser was also the heat winner.

Mountain Speedway co-promoter, Billy Bartley hopes the success of the NEETS Custom Classic ‘TRUX’ will draw interest to the 4/6 cylinder mid-size pickups. He hopes to have them run every couple of weeks or so in 2007.

The next Mountain Speedway event is ‘Reading Phillies Night’ at Mountain Speedway. The first 50 people who enter the grandstand gates on Saturday, May 27th will receive a free ticket to any home Reading Phillies baseball game ($6 value). All the action begins with heat racing at 6 PM. On the card are the late models, street stocks, thrillers, 4 cyl. thrillers and the keystone legends. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

                                                            Tina Heil Returns To WCS

Orrville, OH --- Wayne County Speedway in Orrville, OH will have someone ‘new’ at the helm of the promotional and marketing department this year as track owner Ernie Coffman has announced that Tina Heil will be returning to a management position at the track. Heil served as the track’s general manager last season and left to pursue other options however with the recent resignation of WCS General Manager Jay Howe due to health reasons Heil has enthusiastically agreed to return as the promotional/marketing/sales director for the track that is celebrating 41 years of operation.

“I’m thrilled about it actually,” commented Heil. “I really didn’t think that was what I wanted to do but once racing season started I started missing it and seeing everything that needed to be done so I’m thrilled they asked me back. I will be doing everything that I did last year and then some but I won’t be required to be there at every race. We want to make sure the staff can make the calls they need to make and run the show by themselves and get the show done in a timely fashion that way I can be out promoting Wayne County Speedway at other tracks and venues.”

It was a matter of timing as Jay Howe was forced to step aside due to health issues he is experiencing but Heil was ready, able and willing to step back into a management position. “Jay went to the Coffman’s and informed them about some health problems he was having and requested to be left out of his position,” explained Heil. “So it all kind of fell into place. Jay has already been emailing me with things he has been working on so I appreciate that.”

Heil, despite being a part of the management team last season, is definitely no stranger to Wayne County Speedway. Before she married Rob Heil, Tina Heil was known as Tina Jacobs. Not only did she grow up directly across the road from WCS, she still lives across the road even today. Her grandfather, N.E. ‘Pete’ Jacobs, and three partners (including this reporter’s uncle) founded WCS. The very land that WCS sits on was a large part of the Jacobs family farm.

Tina’s father, Harve, was instrumental not only in helping get WCS built and up & running, he was also an officer on the board for many years and was the track’s first announcer, a position he held for years. (Tina’s mother, Regina, was a longtime scorer.)

To go a little further into Heil’s family tree, her uncle is Ken ‘Jake’ Jacobs, a big dirt track star in the 1960’s and early 70’s which makes Kenny, Dean & Bud Jacobs, all three successful Sprint Car drivers, her cousins. The next generation is represented by Kenny’s son, Lee Jacobs, Dean’s son, Cody and Heil’s nephew, Garrett Jacobs, who raced Sprint Cars at WCS for several years. Additionally, a cousin’s son, Trevor Phillips, is starting his dirt Late Model career this season.

With WCS coming off a World of Outlaws Late Model special event, Heil is preparing for the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series next month in addition to the All Star Circuit of Champions Sprint Cars in addition to the track’s strong weekly program as well as other special nights that will occur this season.

There is one night she is particularly looking forward to. “We’ll have the second annual Wayne County Speedway Hall of Fame induction ceremony that we’ll be working on and we’ll hold it on the Pete Jacobs Memorial for the All Star Sprint Speedweek show that ironically falls on Monday June 26, the actual 41st anniversary of the track opening,” revealed Heil. “I want to form a committee to decide on who the inductees will be. Last year the response was phenomenal. It was such a positive experience all the way around. All the people who were inducted were thrilled about it and they had fun seeing all their old friends. The ceremony was awesome and I think everyone will be looking forward to it this year.”

“I am so thankful that we inducted my uncle, Kenny, because he passed this past winter so I am just glad we were able to do when he was still here. He had such an impact on Wayne County Speedway so I am glad we were able to do that while he was still here.”

Wayne County Speedway runs every Saturday night featuring Super Late Models, Modifieds, Pure Stocks and Mini Stocks. Heil can be contacted at her office at: 330.642.0269 or via email at: tinaheil@zoominternet.net

Yet Another Second Place Run For Geisler

Cranberry, PA (May 15, 2006) The Geisler Racing team and 2005 National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame Inductee, Lynn Geisler had another solid night at Lernerville Speedway earning another second place finish.

Lynn passed race leader Chuck Kennedy on lap nine of the 25-lap feature event to take the lead. Geisler would pull away from the field till a lap 17 caution put the rest of the field on his bumper. Second place runner, John Flinner, would get the better restart and go on to win the feature with Lynn taking his third second place finish in as many ‘Fab Four’ events at Lernerville Speedway.

With his three-second place finishes, Lynn has a 19-point lead over Ken Shaltenbrand in the 2006 Budweiser Point Standings.

The past two Saturdays the team competed at Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway. Unfortunately the team has not had much luck at ‘Dirt’s Monster Half Mile’. Last week the Lynn got caught up in an accident that regulated him to an 18th place finish. This past Saturday the team had some engine woes in the heat and was forced to start the feature event on the tail. Lynn battled his way up to the 6th position until the engine problems returned. The problems forced Lynn to the pit area with a finish of 22nd.

This week the team will take their Cochran Automotive, Marshall Stamping, Rocket Chassis GTO to Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway for a regular show as Lernerville Speedway will feature the World of Outlaws Sprint Series this Friday Night.

Lynn Geisler and Geisler Racing would like to thank all of their sponsors and supporters:

CarQuest Gasoline Alley On WALN Digital Cable Radio/TV, Monday Night, May 15, From 6 to 8 P.M.

MAXATAWNY, PA - This week, the "CarQuest Gasoline Alley Gang" looks ahead, once again, to that first eastern swing for '06 of the mighty World of Outlaws sprint car clan. One very important night will be May 16 at the Grandview Speedway. That show is part of the annual Thunder on The Hill racing series, promoted by Bob Miller.

Looking ahead to that upcoming program, CarQuest Gasoline Alley will have the World of Outlaws standout, known as "The Crowd Pleaser," Craig Dollansky as a guest on the program. Dollansky steers his own familiar No. 7 sprinter out on the World of Outlaws trail and he has steadily been getting better each week throughout the early season in the Outlaw events. Monday night's appearance featuring Craig Dollansky is highly anticipated, without question.

Returning World of Outlaws chauffeur, "The Hurricane," Randy Hannagan, who's a familiar name making his first-ever visit to the CarQuest Gasoline Alley program, will also join the "CarQuest Gang" to discuss his racing career. Hannagan will talk about just how tough it can be racing with the mighty World of Outlaws sprint car gang out on the road throughout the summer, plus other subjects.

Next up, there's series promoter Bob Miller and his daughter, who's the current Miss DIRT Motorsports, both, coming on as guests, with both talking about their roles in racing today. Both should have interesting things to talk about and will give their take on the racing as an industry, today.

Geist, Oswald, Sager and Renn Grab Mountain Speedway Victories

St. Johns, Pa- Despite passing showers throughout the day, most of the scheduled divisions went off Saturday without a glitch at Mountain Speedway. After a late start due to rain, Todd Geist found victory lane in the street stocks, Harry Sager in the four cylinder thrillers, Josh Oswald notched his first career thriller victory and Mike Renn took the checkers in the 4C supermidifieds..

The 20-lap street stock feature began with Barry Callavini at the point, but within a lap Todd Geist grabbed the lead from the outside pole. Geist remained in front six laps in, but had Eric Danyluk on his rear bumper, along with Chip Wanamaker, Rodney Gruber and Bob Hunsicker. Two laps later, trouble struck Gruber and he slowed on the backstretch.

Geist remained out front on the restart and soon had Wanamaker on his bumper. In the meantime, Paul Frantz joined the top five, along with Glen Heckman, but with six laps remaining Heckman and Hunsicker tangled in turn two while battling for fifth. When the field was reset, it was Jim Yamelski in fourth and Scott Meckes in fifth. The two entered the top five after starting twelfth and thirteenth respectively.

Seven cautions slowed the event, which kept the pack together continuously. Over the remaining laps it continued to be Geist out front. Wanamaker tried both the high and low line around the track, but could not get around his teammate. Frantz held off Yamelski for third and Meckes rounded out the top five.

Todd Geist, Eric Danyluk and Chip Wanamaker won heats.

Marissa Nelmes and Jeff Owler shared the front row for the start of the 20-lap thriller feature. However, Nelmes had rear end trouble on her machine after the drop of the green. As she slowed, showers of sparks cascaded from behind the car. Steve Schultz, who was directly behind Nelmes has nowhere to go and piled into her. Before the race was restarted, problems struck Owler and he pulled to the infield.

When the green flew it was Joe Kmetz out front, but Dave Cascioli took the top spot before the two reached the start-finish line. Cascioli remained in front until his machine starting overheating and dropping liquid. He was black flagged with eleven laps in the race.

Josh Oswald, who had already moved into second, inherited the top spot and had a sizeable lead over Bill Price and Mike Skelly, who was in second and third. However, the caution flew when Kevin Makarewicz went around in turn two with eighteen laps in the books.

Price was glued to Oswald’s rear bumper for the two-lap shootout, but Skelly and Price began racing hard for second. It appeared that any of the top three could be in victory lane when they took the white flag, but in the end it was a “thrilled” Oswald from Schnecksville, Pa, taking the checkered enroot to his first career victory over Price Skelly, Ross and Petey.

Mike Skelly and Ricky Ross, Jr. won heat races.

Kevin Price led the first three circuits in the 20-lap four cylinder thriller feature, but was overtaken when Joe Sherman made an outside pass for the lead.

The caution flew shortly after when Bob Wink and Kyle Heckman collected in turn one. After the contact, Heckman shot up the track and into the outside retaining wall in turns one and two. Jen White and Scott Adams were also collected in the incident.

Sherman continued out front, but now over Harry Sager, who had started tenth. Sager pressured Sherman for a number of circuits and when seven laps click off, it was Sager, taking the point. Sager began to drive away from the rest of the field, but lapped traffic began to come into play, as Travis Fisher closed in on the leader.

Sager took the white flag and Fisher appeared to have an assured second place effort. However, Fisher was involved in a tangle when working lapped traffic on the backstretch. The racers behind them avoided the action and the feature finished with Hanover Township’s Sager, taking the win over Sherman, Wink, Bill Hallstead and Duane Garrison. It is his third win in four starts this season.

Harry Sager and Kevin Price won heat races.

After winning the heat race, Mike Renn held off Woot Lawrence and Wes Gilbert to the checkers in the 4C Supermodified feature, which was called due to developing showers.

The originally scheduled 30-lap Balliet’s Country Corners modified feature was rained out and will be run on Saturday, May 20th, along with the regular modified feature. Also on the card are the late models, street stocks and the mid-sized 4/6 cyl. “TRUX”, which will be on hand for a special exhibition show. The grandstands open at 5 PM. All the action begins wil heat racing at 6 PM. For all up to date info on Mountain Speedway, please visit www.mountainspeedway.com.

Brent Robinson prepares to return to racing action!

By Brian Tidball

Brent Robinson had high hopes entering the 2006 Dirt Super Late Model racing season. Coming off his first season on the road he ended up 8th in the final points standings on the Mid Atlantic Championship Series in 2005. Not too bad for someone with very limited Super Late Model seat time and trying to finish his senior year in High School. Now a Freshman at Old Dominion University the 18 year old Smithfield, Virginia driver has been sitting idle since the April 15th World of Outlaws events at Virginia Motor Speedway. “We were on our last years motor, we have two and we knew the other needed some work and knew this one would need freshening soon. We became aware of just how soon once we got on the racetrack. The car worked so well in the turns but we were giving up 5 car lengths on the straights”, said Robinson

“We thought we had a sponsor for the year and were planning on running the Lucas Oil Series and go for Rookie of the Year. That fell through and it has us on a really tight budget. We have some really good people helping us and they’re doing what they can do to help keep us going. The motor is at George’s (CAMS Racing Engine’s George Coleman) being worked on and we’re waiting on a few parts, but the money I’ve earned with my business is paying for the engine (Brent Robinson Inc.) We sell Brad Penn Racing Oil and vinyl signs and decals. I was hoping we’d had it back for the Lucas race at Hagerstown, but the parts held us up”, he said.

“Right now our plans are uncertain where we’ll race but we will be back on the track soon. We’re now looking at the Southern Nationals because that really fits into my schedule with school and all”, he added. Other than that my schedule is on my website with a couple more dates to be added soon. IF we get our motor back this weekend we are going to go to Tazewell for the Lucas Oil show. The next show after that is Clary’s Speedway on the 20th of May and then either Hagerstown for the MACS show on the 27th or Clary’s for the 2 Carolina Clash shows on the 26th and 27th. We haven’t decided on that one yet”, stated Robinson.

Robinson drives a Rocket Chassis with power from a CAMS Racing Engines 419 Chevrolet on American Racer by Lias Tires with help from the following; Terry Heating and Air Conditioning, Stuckey Enterprises, Steeltech Industrial Fabrication Inc., Bernheisel Race Componenets, Racecom, Bell Helmets, Ringers Gloves, Cometic Gaskets and Granny and Papa.

Defebo Sets New Record in Area Asphalt Modified Sweep

St. Johns, PA- Three time Mountain Speedway modified champion, Brian Defebo, not only took his third feature win at Mahoning Valley Speedway Saturday night, but also nailed down the win Sunday at Mountain Speedway in the 30-lap feature. The win marks the first time ever, in which a modified driver has completed the feat. With the win, the Berwick, PA native joins Amanda Sesley, who did it in 1999 with the D/A modified, Todd Ahner with the street stock last season, as did Larry Fisher in a late model.

New Jersey’s Steven Reed led the earlier portion of the 30-lap Balliet’s Country Corners modified feature after starting from the outside pole position and maintained a consistent lead over Marissa Niederauer, Andy Walko, Mike Bohn and Lou Strohl with a few laps in the books.

Trouble struck Tim Santee with seven laps completed and the caution was thrown for heavy rear end smoke on the #X6 Prolog automobile. Santee headed pit side, but Reed continued out front when racing resumed.

The yellow waved once again when Strohl made contact with Niederauer as the two raced into turn one. Both cars rejoined the tail end of the field for the restart.

When the halfway point in the race rolled around, it continued to be Reed out front over Bohn, Ryan Russo and Brian Defebo. That changed with twenty-two laps in the books when Bohn got into Reed’s machine while attempting to make the pass for the lead in turn two. Russo inherited the top spot.

With only a handful of laps remaining, Defebo came from second on the restart and made the pass for the lead off of turn two. He cruised on to victory over Russo, Eddie Brunnhoelzl, Chris Whitenight and Bobby Jones.

When asked in victory lane, Defebo thanked his sponsors and crew on his Sophie’s Tiki Lounge #53 and also noted that he wasn’t even planning to run at either track this weekend because his RoC (Race of Champions Tour) car wasn’t complete. With that, the local modified driver set a new record, as he took two wins in two days.

Brian Defebo and Steven Reed took heat wins.

Joe Hoffman led the late model field to the drop of the green flag in the 25-lap late model feature. With a terrific start, Hoffman lurched out front over Joe Barbush, Jim Brown, Larry Fisher and Mike Coll.

As laps wound down, Barbush appeared to catch Hoffman, and the two battled for the gold. However, the first of two caution flags flew when Fisher, who was fighting a loose machine, skated up and onto the turn three retaining wall with eighteen laps in the books.

Another good restart by Hoffman allowed the Drums, PA driver to stay out front of Barbush. Meanwhile, last week’s winner, Mike Coll and Jim Brown were fighting for the third and fourth slot.

The last caution flew with three to go when Barbush slowed for an instant to correct his loose car. Brown, who was behind Barbush, hit the brakes and Coll tagged him.

There wasn’t anyway around Hoffman, as he cruised to his first feature win of the season over Barbush, Coll, Jim Lamoreaux and Beau Drobot.

Joe Hoffman won the heat race.

Twenty-one street stocks were on hand to qualify for the twenty cars, 20-lap feature, where Kristi-Morone- Arthofer started from the pole.

On the initial start, Eric Danyluk took command, but a lap three yellow flag slowed the field when Scott Meckes made contact with Brad Kline while the two were battling for second. Immediately after the restart, Meckes snapped out in front.

Another yellow flag flew when Rodney Gruber spun in turn two, which also collected Todd Geist. Both drivers were able to continue. Following the restart, Paul Frantz was one of the drivers in the top five when racing resumed, but Chip Wanamaker and Frantz collected in turn one when the two were battling for third. Both drivers were sent to the rear of the field.

The seventh caution flew when a number of cars piled into turn one. Todd Geist, Norman Barnes, Arthofer, Todd Ahner and Jennifer Kutz were all involved. Geist was unable to continue.

When green flag racing resumed, it continued to be Lehighton’s Scott Meckes over Jim Yamelski, who charged up to second after starting fifteenth. Able to hold off Yamelski, Meckes picked up his first feature win of the season. Danyluk finished third, followed by Bill Vanderveen and Rodney Gruber.

Scott Meckes, Todd Ahner and Eric Danyluk took heat wins.

The thriller division took the stage with their 20-lap feature. Marissa Nelmes led the first circuit after she started from the pole, but Ricky Ross, Jr. took command with only one lap in the books.

Howie Bott, Steve Schultz, Richard Petey and Joe Heintzelman worked their way around Nelmes, but in the meantime, Ross had secured a commanding lead over the rest of the pack. That was, until the caution flew when Dave Cascioli spun in turn three with seven laps in the books.

With a great restart, Ross shot back in front, but now had to contend with Josh Oswald, Petey and Bill Price, Jr. After a few laps Ross extended his lead like before, while Price and Oswald battled side-by-side for a number of laps. Finally letting things settle, Oswald tucked back into position behind Price.

The last of only two cautions flew when Tom Casagrande got into Heintzelman in turn three. Both drivers restarted from the rear.

Over the remaining laps, Ross set a blistering pace and went on to his very first career victory over Petey, Price, Oswald and Schultz.

Josh Oswald and Ricky Ross, Jr. were heat winners

The 20-lap four-cylinder thriller feature took to the track with Jamie Damon on the point. While working the first lap, Joe Sherman took his machine to the front with Travis Fisher and Duane Garrison in toe.

Point leader, Harry Sager began to mount a charge to the front after starting fifth. Fist Sager sped past Garrison, and then Fisher, while Bob Wink and Scott Adams duked it out for sixth.

With two and three wide battles around the speedway, Sager finally worked his way into second and around Sherman with four laps in the books. Sherman tucked back in line behind the new leader and tried to fend off Fisher.

Fisher shot past Sherman and set his sights on Sager. For moment, appearing he had the better handing machine, Fisher looked on the high side, then the low side, but at the end it was Hanover Township’s Harry Sager nailing his second feature of the season over Fisher, Sherman, Garrison and Damon.

Harry Sager was also the heat winner.

The New York mini cups took to the speedway for a 20-lap feature. Tim Buckwater grabbed the top spot from Stephen Hershey off the get go and cruised to the win over Matt Barndt, Craig Arco, Sarah Heim and Fred Ballard. Bobby Stick was the highest finishing junior driver.

Racing returns to Saturday nights next week at Mountain Speedway (May 13th). The grandstand gates open at 4 PM, with heat racing starting at 6 PM. On the card are the modified, street stocks, thrillers and four cylinder thrillers. The late models have the night off.

"I’ll tell you what, though, everywhere we have been we have been treated very well, even though I am not very well known in the West. It will be a plus to go home and see some familiar faces."

Anderson, who is in her first full season of racing 410-sprint cars with the World of Outlaws, has 13 careers wins in 360s with the United Racing Company and the Empire Super Sprints as well as success in 358 sprinters, as well. On the URC trail, she has eight wins, including the ESS/URC Challenge at Rolling Wheels Raceway Park in Elbridge, N.Y., where the World of Outlaws will compete on May 30. She knows horsepower is important on the World of Outlaws circuit, but she believes she can bridge the gap with more seat time and experience.

"Heading home to Pennsylvania and Grandview, a smaller track, which is kind of my style of track, is what I like," said Anderson, the only woman racing winged sprint cars at this level. "It will definitely be a plus. I think things are in our favor there. It fits into our situation right and our motor program. Flat out, or on-and-off the gas, it doesn’t matter to me. Any kind of racing is good."

On April 15 at Tri-State Speedway, a high-banked ultra-fast quarter-mile in Haubstadt, Ind., Anderson recorded her first top-10 of the season. Grandview is a little bigger than Tri-State, measuring about one-third of a mile around.

Three consecutive rainouts have been frustrating for Anderson and the team but with the schedule picking up they are more than prepared to compete with the best sprint car drivers in the world at some of the fastest and toughest dirt tracks from coast to coast. The days off thanks to Mother Nature allowed the team to make sure the cars are impeccably maintained and that Anderson has had plenty of time to keep with her fitness program.

"At this time of the year you hate rainouts, but in the middle of the summer when you are racing four or five nights a week you want them, but they’re not going to come," Anderson said. "Right now it’s kind of a downer, but you take it as it comes."

Invading Pennsylvania also means the Outlaws will battle with the vaunted Pennsylvania Posse. This rivalry always stirs the pot between drivers, crews, fans and everybody else attending the races. Anderson has plenty of laps out East in the past and knows what it takes to run with the Posse.

"You have to be on your ‘A Game’ every night out here with the Outlaws," Anderson said. "Then when you go to Pennsylvania you put another 10 guys in the mix, so you really have to be up on it. You have to have your whole program going in the right direction. It’s going to be two weeks with your work cut out for you."

A graduate of the micro-sprints ranks, Anderson looks forward to every race, knowing the more experience she gets with the World of Outlaws the closer she will be to picking up her first win in a 410-sprint car. She currently is competing for the Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year Award Presented by Maxim Racing and ButlerBuilt.

After the checkered flag flies at Grandview, Anderson and the rest of the Mean 15 will head to the western end of the Keystone State for the Commonwealth Clash May 19 at Lernerville Speedway that sets the stage for the $50,000 Challenge on May 20 at Sharon Speedway in Hartford, Ohio, where the winner at Lernerville has a chance at the monster bonus and a potential $70,000 for sweeping the entire weekend.

The World of Outlaws Sprint Series is brought to the fans across the country by several sponsors and partners, including series sponsors Hoosier Racing Tire and The Outdoor Channel. Promotional Partners include AMB i.t. and The University of Northwestern Ohio. Associate sponsors are ButlerBuilt Motorsports Equipment, Maxim Racing, RacinSoles and Snap-on. Contingency sponsors include DART Machinery, MSD Ignitions and Wrisco Industries.

Hanbury Victorious over Zeiner in Mountain Modified Thriller

St. Johns, PA- Tony Hanbury picked up his first Balliet’s Country Corners Modified victory Sunday at Mountain Speedway. Along with the $1500 to win came an additional $500 bonus, which is put out by SVS of Hazleton, PA if the amount of cars registered meet or exceed twenty-two. There were twenty-four registered modifieds.

The 30-lap feature began with Steven Reed at the point. Reed jumped out front early, but Tony Hanbury overtook Reed after one lap. Not long after, Zane Zeiner joined the mix, along with Earl Paules and Pete Brittain.

The caution flew on the fourth lap when a slew of cars collected in turn three. The melee collected Mike Bohn, Pete Brittian, Steven Nederostek, Andy Walko, Wes Swartout, Lou Strohl, Matt Clemmens, Ryan Russo, Brian DeFebo, Tommy Farrell and Kory Rabenold. Almost all cars involved hit the pits for repairs, but Swartout, Strohl, Farrell and Walko were done for the day.

When the action resumed it was a close, tight & fierce battle amongst the top four, as Zeiner had climbed to second with Markovic in third. Paules overtook Markovic for position and Zeiner applied heavy pressure to Hanbury almost continuously.

The caution flew with three laps remaining when Rusty Smith spun in turn two. Ironically, it was immediately after Zeiner had completed the pass on Hanbury, but the pass was made past the stripe. Reverting back to the previously complete lap before the caution, Hanbury was put back in front and held off Zeiner for the $2k victory. “Man, this is great, the car worked great and I gotta say that it’s great racing against guys like Zane (Zeiner), he’ll run ya clean” exclaimed Hanbury in victory lane.

Steven Reed, Earl Paules and Tony Hanbury won the heat races and Mike Bohn was the consi winner.

Hard Chargers: Mike Bohn and Stephen Nederostek, 11 positions

Fast Lap: Zane Zeiner (13.980)

Beau Drobot paced the Late Model feature to the green flag in the 25-lap feature, but the caution flew after two circuits clicked off when Danny Cascioli spun in turn three. With nowhere to go, Mike Rodriguez, Jr. plowed into Cascioli’s #42X.

With a great restart, Joe Barbush quickly jumped to the top slot with Mike Coll, Jim Lamoreaux, Larry Fisher and Bob Ankner hot on his tail. Coll applied all kinds of pressure to Barbush and finally made his pass on lap twelve. Barbush, however, was reluctant to let Coll drive away from the field and stayed glued to the Long Islander’s rear bumper.

Meanwhile, Rodriguez began making up ground with his battered machine. With twenty laps in the books he and Fisher waged a terrific battle in the top five. As the two rolled through turn three they touched and both spun from contention.

Coll stayed out front over the remaining laps and continued to hold off charges by Barbush and went on to score his first career Late Model Victory.

Larry Fisher and Joe Barbush won the heat races.

Hard Charger: Jim Brown, 6 positions

Fast Lap: Larry Fisher (14.940)

After a rough opening day, Scott Meckes wanted to pick up the win in the 20-lap Street Stock feature. Meckes paced the field after starting on the pole. When the green waved, Meckes took control of the race, but only one lap later the caution flag flew when Norm Barnes got into the #10 of Paul Frantz in turn three. When green flag racing resumed, it was still Meckes in command.

With six laps in the books, Chip Wanamaker worked his way into second and around Meckes. Meanwhile, Jim Yamelski had moved into fourth. Not many laps had passed and Meckes began losing positions. First Yamelski, then Glenn Heckman slipped by the Meckes machine.

The final caution of the evening came out on the eleventh circuit when Jennifer Kutz and John Stonier collected in turn three.

Green flag racing resumed and Wanamaker held off pass attempts from Yamelski. Wanamaker was the first car to cross the stripe, but not collect the top prize, as he was disqualified for failing post race inspection. Yamelski also picked up the SVS (of Hazleton) $100 Street Stock bonus because there were at least 22 street stocks registered for the day.

Glenn Heckman, Scott Meckes and Robert Fink each won heat races. Eric Danyluk was the consi winner.

Hard Charger: Jim Yamelski, 11 positions

Fast Lap: Jim Yamelski (16.082)

The twenty-lap Thriller feature began with Howie Bott leading the field to the drop of the green flag. Before one lap was complete, the field was already four wide and Mike Skelly went around in turn one.

The restart appeared to be much better as Bott jumped out front over Ricky Ross, Jr. Only two laps passed by and Ross got the nose underneath Bott as the two headed into turn one. After some contact, Ross grabbed the top spot.

The worst of six cautions came out when Steve Schultz and Derek Kline got out of shape. Paul Frantz tried to avoid him, along with Joe Heintzelman, Pat Verwys and Glenn Heckman, but were all collected in the lap nine crash. Only Heintzelman and Frantz were able to continue.

On the restart Josh Oswald tried to hold off Bill Price and Dave Cascioli, but the two got by after a number of laps. Meanwhile, Ross checked out from the rest of the field and appeared to pick up his first career Thriller victory. That was not the case, as Ross failed post race inspection. Instead, Dave Cascioli picked up his first thriller feature of the season over Price, Oswald, Steve Hoffman and Richard Petey.

Dave Cascioli and Bill Price won heat races.

Hard Charger: Paul Frantz, 13 positions

Fast Lap: Dave Cascioli (17.449)

Kyle Heckman led the Four Cylinder Thriller field to the drop of the green in the wild 20-lap feature. Travis Fisher took the lead from Kyle Heckman on lap two after starting on the outside pole.

Meanwhile, things really began to heat up from second back between Chris Meeker, Bob Wink, Harry Sager and Duane Garrison. Everywhere on the track there were machines swapping paint and trading positions.

A lone yellow was thrown for Kevin Price when he looped his machine in turn three. When green flag racing resumed, it was still Fisher in command over Sager, who won the opener a few weeks ago.

Positions changed left and right over the final laps, but not the first spot, as Fisher held off Sager for his first win of the season. Sager, Garrison, Wink and Joe Grocholski rounded out the top five.

Harry Sager and Travis Fisher won heat races.

Hard Charger: Chris Meeker, 7 positions

Fast Lap: Duane Garrison (18.715)

While running third with a few laps remaining in the 20-lap Tri State Locating Keystone Legend feature, JD Trenary made a gutsy turn four pass for the lead stick while the white flag was waving. He went on to victory over Tim Tomson.

Don Adams cruised to victory in the caution free TQ Midget 20-lap feature.

The next Mountain Speedway event is Sunday, May 7th. Running that day will be the modified, late models, street stocks, thrillers and the 4 cylinder thrillers. All the action will begin with heat racing at 2:00 PM. Big wheel racing is also on the card for the children. Admission is $12 for adults, seniors & handicap persons is $9, kids 7-12 are $9 and children 6 years and under are admitted for free.                                           Drown, Anderson Feature Winners at Wayne County Speedway

By Jay W. Howe

Orrville, Ohio – With beautiful weather on tap for the opening night of the 2006 racing season, we had 114 cars signed into the pits for the nights racing action. With a new improved track racing surface, more banking in the corners, new guardrail in place in the corners, a large crowd, fans were treated to great racing in all divisions.

Time trials showed we had a few new names to the fastest times category. Jason Flory set fast time in the Fultz Fabrication late models; qualifying fastest in the modified division for the first time was Bruce Jennings, Thrifty Discounty Muffler pure stock fast time went to Troy Anderson, and the Hague Crystal Clear Water mini stock fast time was cut by Steve Miller.

Doug Drown won the Fultz Fabrication late model dash, the Thrifty Discount Muffler pure stocks went to Fred Snyder, in the modified division the dash win went to Mike Potosky, and the Hague Crystal Clear dash winner was Dale Beckett Jr.

In the Fultz Fabrication late models, heat winners were Dave Hornikel, Blaine Aber, and George Lee. In the modifieds, heat winners were Barry Jacobs, #23, and Larry Kugel. In the Thrifty Discount Muffler pure stock division, the heat winners were Shawn Cains, Denny Shear, and Tim Myers. In the Hague Crystal Clear Water mini stocks, the heat winners were Chad Young, Bo Yarnell, and Jeff Thiel.

The Fultz Fabrication late models B main winner was Charlie Duncan, in the modifieds the winner was Eric Smitley (former late model driver), and in the Hague Crystal Clear Water mini stocks it was Ed Ray.

The Fultz Fabrication late models one caution feature race started as Mark Osborn took the lead at the start, but Doug Drown never gave up, and around the mid point in the 25 lap race, took the lead and never look back. Rounding out the top five were Mark Osborn, Jason Flory, Ryan Markham, Clint Coffman.

Up next were the Thrifty Discount Muffler pure stocks. Troy Anderson jumped out in the lead at the start of the race over Fred Snyder, and never looked back. Rounding out the top five were Fred Snyder, Todd Werntz, Todd Swim, and Shaun Cains.

Due to the curfew in place, racing action was halted as the modifieds hit the track, and had completed just a couple laps. Their feature, as well as the Hague Crystal Clear Water mini stocks feature will be run in 2 weeks.

Coming May 6th at Wayne County Speedway, for the first time ever, is the World of Outlaw Late Model Series. The World of Outlaw late model series is considered to be the premier traveling late model series. Wayne County Speedway's super late model drivers will have their hands full with the World of Outlaw Late model regulars. Local drivers like Ryan Markham, Chet Alexander, Clint Coffman, Blaine Aber, Charlie Duncan, and Jason Flory to name a few, will give the WOO late model guys a run for the $10,000 to win, $45,000 purse. Also on the card for the show is the modifieds, and the Thrifty Discount Muffler pure stock divisions.

Ticket prices for the WOO Late model show are as follows, adult general admission is $25, kids 7-15 are $10, kids 6 and under are free. Pit admission is $35. Pit gates open at 3pm, main general admission gates open at 4pm, with hot laps / time trials to begin at 5:30, and racing action at 7pm.

Wayne County Speedway is a 3/8 mile, semi banked, clay oval located 9 miles east of Wooster, Ohio. Due to construction taking place on old 30, and Carr Rd, we suggest if traveling from the east, take St. Rt. 30 West to St. Rt. 57 North (in Riceland Ohio). Take 57 North approx. 1 mile to Church Rd., turn left. Follow church rd for another 1 mile or so, to McQaid Rd, turn left. Follow McQaid Rd to race track on the left. If traveling from the west, stay on Rt. 30 to Riceland Ohio, turn left onto St. Rt. 57, approx. 1 mile to Church Rd., turn left. Follow church rd for another 1 mile or so, to McQaid Rd, turn left. Follow McQaid Rd to race track on the left. For more information, please visit Wayne County Speedway on the web at www.waynecountyspeedway.com  See you at the races!

Upcoming NEETS event: Monday, May 29th, ‘Racin Rich Johnson Memorial co-sponsored by Constant Performance and Joe Cooper, featuring 99-lap enduros for 4 cyl and 6/8 cylinder, along with a 49-lapper for the “TRUX”

Veteran Drivers Take First NEETS Wins in Gale Baglio Memorial

St. Johns, PA- Tim Pauch and Larry Fisher, two Veteran drivers who definitely know their way around many tracks across the eastern seaboard claimed their first career ABC Car Crushing NEETS Holiday Stock Car Series wins Saturday afternoon at Mountain Speedway in the Gale Baglio Memorial, which was sponsored by Jim’s Busy Bee Pest Control, Richard Petey and Joe Cooper.

First on the card were the Steel Seal four cylinders, where Scott Ball started on the pole. At the drop of the green, Joe Sherman shot out front, but within a few laps Harry Sager took the point. By the thirteenth circuit Joe Heintzelman worked his way to the front after starting 31st.

The worst of five red flags was thrown on lap thirty-six when Gary Walls slammed into the rear end of the stalled Chris Siegel machine. Both drivers were uninjured. Heintzelman continued out front over late model veteran, Larry Fisher and the third place car of Peter Rabaglia at the halfway mark, but eighteen laps later Heintzelman hit the pits with mechanical problems.

Coming all the way from the 62nd starting spot, Fisher (Fern Glen, PA) led the remaining laps and claimed the checkers over Jimmy White, Jr, Mike Mujsce, Jr, Joe Sherman and Bob Haeger for his very first NEETS enduro victory.

After a short intermission and transponder switch in the automobiles, the Cascioli Roofing 6/8 cyl. division took to the track. From the pole position, Steve Tito jumped out front, but Howie Bott took command two circuits later.

Shawn Gallucci mounted a strong challenge on Bott and finally took command on lap thirteen. The two swapped the top spot three times before Bott made some distance on the second place car. Meanwhile, Dave Cascioli and Mark Spencer joined the top five and set sail on the leaders. Bott continued to lead at mid race with Pauch in second and Spencer third. Others entering the top ten were Joe Jentile, Tom Moses, Richard Petey and Bob Wink.

Pauch held second and the battle from third on back was intense. Pauch retook command with seventy-nine laps in the books. With eleven to go, Bott hit the pits with a flat tire. Pauch looked like he was in position for the win, but the red flag flew when Moses and Spencer were involved in a front stretch tangle with lapped cars. Spencer’s race ended early, but Moses continued with his battered machine.

From that point on, Pauch cruised to his first career NEETS win over Shawn Gallucci, Joe Jentile, Richard Petey and Bob Wink. Even though his brother Billy (Pauch) is a popular dirt driver, Tim has been competing in enduros for years. In victory lane Pauch noted that the car he won with was one that he used to race at the defunct Flemington Speedway in New Jersey.

One hundred and thirty-two racecars in both divisions combined took to the track in remembrance of Gale Baglio who passed away in February. Gale was the wife of NEETS driver, Richard Petey. Petey, along with racer, Joe Cooper each sponsored the 43rd and 50th lap in each division, in which they paid out $100 to the driver who was in first for the two laps. The second and third place cars each received $75. The same three drivers were 1st through 3rd in the Steel Seal four cyl. division. Joe Heintzelman took the bonus for leading, with Larry Fisher second and Pete Rabaglia third. Howie Bott led both of the sponsored laps in the Cascioli Roofing 6/8 cyl. division. Tim Pauch was in the second spot for both laps. Dave Cascioli won the cash for running third on lap 43 and Mark Spencer took the cash for running third on lap 50. Bill Price, Jr. sponsored $20 in each division to each driver who was leading on lap 48.

The NEETS charity of choice was the local ‘no kill’ animal shelter. One dollar from each general admission will be donated to the cause.

The next ABC Car Crushing NEETS Holiday Stock Car Series event is set for Monday, May 29th. The Memorial Day event will pay tribute to NEETS racer, ‘Racin Rich Johnson, who passed away on April 1st. The event is co-sponsored by Constant Performance. Along with the tribute, Joe Cooper has also put up a lap money bonus as he did for the April 28th event. On the card for the day are the Cascioli 6/8 cylinders, the Steel Seal four cylinders and the Custom Classic ‘TRUX’. The NEETS charity of choice for the event goes toard disabled veterans. One dollar fom each general admission will be donated to the charity. For more information, please visit www.neetstour.net

Geisler Competes With World of Outlaws Late Model Series

Cranberry, PA (April 24, 2006) The Geisler Racing team and 2005 National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame Inductee, Lynn Geisler took on the World of Outlaws Late Model Series this past Tuesday at the Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, PA. Lynn qualified 29th fastest out of the 51 registered drivers with a time of 16.261 seconds. That time would put Lynn towards the back of heat race number one. Lynn was able to make his way up to the seventh position when the checkered flag fell. Seventh position was good enough to give Lynn a good starting position in one of the two B-Main events. Lynn transferred to the 50-lap A-Main event with a strong third place finish in his B-Main behind Billy Decker and Bart Hartman. Lynn did not have much luck in the feature event, as only twelve laps in, the left rear tire would go flat and end his night with a twenty-sixth place finish.

The next event for the Geisler Gang would be the following Saturday at PPMS as Friday’s show at Lernerville was washed out. Lynn would lead early in Saturday’s feature event before relinquishing that lead on lap 13 to eventual winner, Mark Banal. Lynn would bring his Cochran Automotive, Marshall Stamping, Rocket Chassis Grand Prix home in the second position.

Next up for Lynn and the Crew is Lernerville Speedway on Friday, April 28 and Pittsburgh’s PA Motor Speedway on Saturday, April 29

Lynn Geisler and Geisler Racing would like to thank all of their sponsors and supporters:

CarQuest Gasoline Alley On WALN Cable FM Monday Night, April 24, from 6 to 8 P.M.

MAXATAWNY, PA - This week, the "CarQuest Gasoline Alley Gang" on WALN has another great Monday night planned, which includes interviews with racers from the big block dirt modified clan, the 410 and 358 dirt sprint car ranks and the midwest midget racing tour, together. All will talk about their early season success stories. It is certainly a well-rounded racing program for everyone, this Monday, on CarQuest Gasoline Alley.

The guests for this weeks show include recent opening night Fonda Speedway modified feature winner, young Matt DeLorenzo, an emerging star at the "Track of Champions" raceway, who also had a win in his sights a week earlier, until tire troubles took him out of the running late in the fray. Matt will talk about his career, his season to come and some goals he'd like to accomplish, in racing, this summer.

We will then talk with an up-and-coming driving talent on the 410 and 358 winged sprint car circuits, Blane Heimbach, as the 24-year-old throttle-jockey out of Selinsgrove, PA., talks about his career to date, his success and recent victories at Selinsgrove Speedway and his '06 opportunities to steer a potent Jeff Creasy owned 410 sprint car car, among other topics.

Finally, we will chat with Ryan Durst, a very talented midget racer out of Nebraska who, recently, teamed up with Kasey Kahne Racing as the team chauffeur. Durst will talk about his career, to date, and his 2006 goals aboard that potent midget equipment.

This will be a great show. Make sure to listen in.

Local Real Racing Dying and My Opinion As To Why

by Ralph Jones

When I was a kid going down the road you saw racecars at local stations and all over even in the neighbors yard; that's what got me into racing.  But I can remember not even thinking about racing and riding down the road with my parents and I would see a stock car or a drag car on an open trailer and it looked cool and I wanted to go see it race.

For years if I saw a trailer, I would say dad lets catch up to it, I want to see it.  And that is what drew a lot of younger kids to it. Now we live in a day that most race cars are hidden. Going down the road in enclosed haulers 90% of them have no racing names or anything on them and when most kids see a white box trailer going down the road they think lawnmowers are builders stuff not racing.  I know with the theft of equipment and such that is why most racers conceal there equipment and I can't blame them but why are tuners cool to the younger gen.   Because they see them everywhere.

Local racing crowds are dropping off more every year the kids don't bug to go there unless they are involved in a racing family or the neighbor has one.  No kids see a white box being towed and say, wow lets go to the raced Dad.

Unfortunately there is no good answer for this but if I was a racing promoter I would let racers in free that brought there cars in on open trailers because its a moving add for there raceway. This is just the long winded opinion of an old racer that sees no youngsters wanting to get involved.  Hell over half of the kids that live in this area even know what a race track is and they don't see any cool cars to draw them to it.

Does anyone else agree with me on this would like to know?

Racing in York in just 2 weeks cant wait but here are some things for you to think about.

Hopefully here again we are going to take something that is a lot of fun and a few people have to start playing with them now we will take a stand on this subject we will take the cars after each race impound the top 5 and play lets look at them closer and if there is anything done or even if it looks a little like its been touched it will be taken out of the race.

NOW HERE IS HOW IT WILL BE NO IF ANDS OR BUTTS WE WILL TAKE THE NASCAR APPROACH ON THIS TO AN EXTENT NOT BIG DOLLAR FINES BUT HERE IT IS
THE EOS HAS THE RIGHT TO DEEM ANY MOTOR IT FEELS TAMPERED WITH TO BE ILL-EAGLE THE MOTOR WILL BE CONFISCATED AND DESTROYED. THE RACERS POINTS WILL BE TAKEN AWAY FOR THE ENTIRE YEAR. AND THE DRIVER WILL BE ASKED TO LEAVE THE EOS FOR A PERIOD OF 1 YEAR FOR A BLANTENT INFRACTION OF THIS. SORRY IT HAS TO BE PUT OUT THIS WAY BUT WE WILL NOT STAND FOR THIS TO GET OUT OF HAND WE HAVE HAD SO MANY GREAT RACES WITH CLOSE FINISHES OVER THE LAST YEAR AND WANT OUR SERIES TO REMAIN THE MOST COMPETITIVE SERIES IF WE LOOSE A COUPLE OF RACERS OVER MOTOR TAMPERING WELL SO BE IT

WE WANT GOOD FAIR RACING AND ITS BEEN A LOT OF FUN SO FAR AND WE WANT TO KEEP IT THAT WAY.

FALCONS ARE NOT MEANT TO BE TAMPERED WITH IN ANY WAY SOME TWISTING HAS HAPPENED I TRIED IT MYSELF ON A FEW BUT HAVE NOT TWISTED ONE FOR WELL OVER A YEAR AND WILL NOT EVER DO IT AGAIN. WE CANT CATCH THE TIMING THING COMPLETELY BUT WE WILL HAVE AN ANSWER FOR IT ANY MOTOR DEEMED TO BE TAKEN APART OR SOLDERED TOGETHER OR ANY THING DEEMED (DETRIMENTAL TO THE SPORT FROM NASCAR LOL)
WILL BE DEALT WITH IN THIS MANOR

THERE IS A NEW HACK L/M BODY AVAILABLE AND IT IS LEGAL FOR EOS NOW THAT THE BODY IS IN CONFORMATION TO WHAT WE RUN NOW ANYONE RUNNING THE OLDER BODY CAN ADD LEXAN TO THE REAR SIDES TO MATCH THE NEW BODY BUT MAY NOT EXCEED IT I AM TOLD THE BODY IS AVAIL AT KEYSTONE RACEWAY NOW

THE UPCOMING RULE MEETING SHOULD BE A POSITIVE ONE AND WE ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO IT

FOOD FOR THOUGHT THE MOST SUGGESTIONS THAT HAVE COME UP HAVE BEEN

DROPPING 4 1/2 NASCAR AND ADDING INDYCAR

A MORE AGGRESSIVE SCHEDULE FOR NEXT YEAR ALLOWING FOR MORE RACING IN A SEASON LIKE 10 RACES INSTEAD OF 8 AND I AM WORKING ON A MOCK SCHEDULE TO BRING UP AT THE MEETING

ADDING CHAMP CARS TO THE SCHEDULE

AN 4 1/2 FCR TYPE NASCAR OR STREET STOCK OR EVEN AN ASPHALT MODIFIED THAT WE WILL HAVE A COUPLE THERE FOR EVERYONE TO SEE

THERE HAS EVEN BEEN SUGGESTIONS TO GET RID OF ALL BIG CARS ADD A COUPLE OF MORE SMALL CARS AND AGAIN NO IDEAS WILL GO UNNOTICED

PLEASE IF YOU ARE NOT GOING TO MAKE IT TO THE YORK RACE PLEASE SEND ME YOUR SUGGESTIONS IN EMAIL FORM OR CALL ME SO WE CAN BRING UP YOUR THOUGHTS AT THE MEETING I WILL BRING UP EVERY THING THAT YOU HAVE TO OFFER TO THE PROGRAM AND ANY MEMBER WILL BE ABLE TO BE HEARD EVEN IF YOU ARE NOT ABLE TO ATTEND IF YOU CAN NOT EMAIL ME CALL ME 609-770-2566 OR 609-780-6190 IF YOU HAVE AN OPINION LET ME KNOW HOW YOU WANT TO VOTE ON ANY SUBJECT THAT YOU HAVE HEARD OF SO YOU CAN BE COUNTED IN THE VOTE YOU ARE MEMBERS AND YOUR VOTE IS IMPORTANT TO US

THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME AND SEE YOU AT YORK

RALPH JONES

or 609-770-2566 or 609-780-6190

please call or email soon to get me your opinions

Geisler Has Strong Runs At Lernerville And PPMS

Cranberry, PA (April 17, 2006) The Geisler Racing team and 2005 National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame Inductee, Lynn Geisler headed to Lernerville Speedway this past Friday night for their Season Opener. With 40 Late Models signed into the pits and a bad pill draw, Lynn started in the back of his heat. Lynn finished fifth in his heat to transfer to the feature event. Lynn did not finish high enough for the re-draw, which put him in the 14th starting position for the feature.

Lynn had his 25th Anniversary #1 Cochran Rocket Chassis hooked up as he had moved to the 5th position by the 5th lap. Geisler made his way into the 3rd position by lap 10 as the two leaders (Jared Miley & Matt Lux) pulled away. As the leaders raced with each other Lynn just ran his own race and waited for someone to make a mistake. The great race for the lead ended with nine laps to go as Matt Lux pulled to the infield moving Lynn up to the second position. Lynn was too far behind to make a late race charge and finished the race in second.

The following night at Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway started just as good as Friday finished. Lynn fell into the second spot at the start at the start of the feature event and was racing hard with Keith Barbara for the second position until lap 14 when Barbara finally made the pass. Steve Baker and John Flinner would then put the pressure on Lynn for the 3rd spot. Lynn lost the handle of his Rocket Chassis in turns 3 & 4 unfortunately taking Steve Baker with him. Baker’s night would be over but Geisler was able to continue only to go to the tail of the field. Geisler was able to battle his way back up to the 8th position when the checkered flag fell.

This week the Geisler Racing Team will race with the World of Outlaws Late Model Series this Tuesday, April 18 at Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, PA. for the April 7 rain postponed $10,000 to win ‘Spring Showdown In Sarver Town 50’. Then back to Lernerville Speedway on Friday for a regular “Fab Four” event and PPMS for another regular “Action Event” program. For more information on these events visit: www.lernerville.com  and www.ppms.com.

Geisler Racing would also like to send out their deepest sympathy to the family of Al Straka. Longtime Geisler crewmember and family friend, Al Straka passed away this weekend. Straka, affectionately known as "the Goof", was involved with Geisler Racing since it's inception (literally - he took Lynn to get his driver's license when he turned 16.) Ironically, Straka also took Travis to get his driver's license when he turned 16.

Straka had a huge heart and was willing to do whatever was needed to help out around the race shop. That included many thankless, but necessary jobs like running parts, picking up Travis from school or the airport and taking him to the race track. He always brought laughter with him to the shop and the race track. He is survived by his son Jim, daughter Darlene and two granddaughters.
Lynn Geisler and Geisler Racing would like to thank all of their sponsors and supporters:

#1 Cochran GM MegaCenter, Hotsy, Marshall Stamping, Groff Tractor & Equipment Inc., Tri-State Hose & Supply, Bolea Oil, Rocket Chassis, Easy Care, American Race Tire, Lias Tire, Rhodes Performance, Afco Shocks, Appleton Power Rack & Pinions, Barry Grant, BultlerBuilt Motorsports Equipment, Calico Coatings, DirtTrackDigest.com, Dynatech, Frankland Racing Supply, Kunzler Signs & Decals, Mechanix Wear, Scott Performance Wire, Setrab Oil Coolers, Speed Bear Fasteners, Stewart Warner, Turbo Blue Racing Fuel, Ultra Shield Race Products, and Wrisco Industries Inc.

Don O'Neal Completes Weekend Sweep in O'Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series Action at Florence Speedway

UNION, KY -- The nation's winningest dirt late model driver over the last six years, Don O'Neal, completed a weekend sweep in O'Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series action Saturday night at Florence Speedway. O'Neal becomes the first driver to win back-to-back O'Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series races in two years.

Defending Spring 50 Champion Dan Schlieper started on the pole with local hotshoe Roger Williams on the outside. Williams won the drag race into turns one and two with Schlieper glued to his back bumper and defending Series Co-Champion Mike Jewell looking on in 3rd. The first several laps saw Schlieper looking for a pass in every corner and continuously hounding Williams for the top spot. 6th-starting Don O'Neal, the fast qualifier in Racing Optics Time Trials and the winner of Mason Racin' Heat #1, flexed his muscles early on as he worked by Mike Marlar on lap 5 and slipped past Jewell one circuit later to crack the top three.

O'Neal wasted little time tracking down the lead duo and, by lap 11, the Martinsville, IN veteran made it a three dog fight for the point. O'Neal feverishly challenged Schlieper for 2nd, giving race-leader Williams a new threat to worry about. While all of this was happening, Jewell and Marlar staged their own door-to-door war in a battle for 4th. Behind of them, side-by-side and three-wide racing saw positions six through ten swap practically every lap with Brad Neat, Jesse Lay, Bryan Barber, and Wayne Chinn racing hard.

As the lead trio began working through lapped traffic, O'Neal dazzled fans with a slicing pass into 2nd and immediately looked for the lead. O'Neal's bid for the top spot was slowed by a lap 18 caution as mechanical woes forced Tyrel Todd to become the first retiree of the race. When racing resumed, Schlieper used the Delaware double-file restart to his advantage and reassumed control of the bridesmaid honors. The three way dance for the lead brought the crowd to its feet at the halfway point as O'Neal rolled by both Schlieper and Williams in one lap to grab command of the race. Before O'Neal could pull away, a pair of cautions kept Williams and Schlieper within striking distance.

On the lap 29 restart, Schlieper motored into second and 13th-starting Jesse Lay grabbed 4th from Marlar. With Schlieper glued to the rear decklid of race-leader O'Neal, Williams began to fade ever so slightly. Behind them, the racing from 4th on back continued to "wow" the crowd with Lay, Marlar, Neat, Jewell, Freddy Smith, and 15th-starting Steve Casebolt all racing doorhandle-to-doorhandle.

With just ten laps to go, O'Neal and Schlieper started weaving their way through lapped traffic. Several intense moments saw Schlieper try to use the back of the field to his advantage, but to no avail. Schlieper's last chance came with just a few circuits remaining, but O'Neal's ability to work by a pair of backmarkers allowed the two-time Spring 50 winner to separate himself from the defending race champ just enough to claim the victory for the second night in a row.

"The car was great tonight and I can't thank my crew enough. Just like last night, I knew we had a good enough car to get up there and win but it was just a matter of doing it," O'Neal said in winner's circle. Saturday marked the second straight win for the driver of the Independence Lumber/Foxfire Realty/Grayson Farm & Leasing/Eller Motorsports sponsored Jay Dickens/MasterSbilt Monte Carlo.

Second place honors went to 2005 Spring 50 winner, Dan Schlieper of Sullivan, WI in his Pro Power/Rayburn Monte Carlo. Walton, KY's Roger Williams took home third in his Dargie powered Rocket Monte Carlo. Fourth place was Dunnville, KY native Brad Neat driving a Cornett/MasterSbilt Monte Carlo. Rounding out the top five in his Pro Power/Rayburn Monte Carlo was Winfield, TN's Mike Marlar.

This weekend, the O'Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series presented by Arizona Sport Shirts travels to Junction City, KY on Friday, April 21st for the rescheduled 3rd Annual Spring 40 at the Ponderosa Speedway. Saturday night, April 22nd, the nation's most competitive regional racing series visits the historic Brownstown Speedway in Brownstown, IN for the 23rd Annual Hoosier Dirt Classic.

MAXATAWNY, PA - This week, the "CarQuest Gasoline Alley Gang" on WALN has a notable night planned, which includes interviews with racers from the big block dirt modified clan, the 410 sprint car ranks and the asphalt modified tour, together, who'll talk about their early season success stories. It is a little bit of a taste for everyone, this Monday, on CarQuest Gasoline Alley.

The guests for this weeks show include Chad Layton, who scored his first career win at the Lincoln Speedway on Saturday night aboard the Bob Stewart owned Apple Motorsports No. 12 410 sprint car. The lad out of Harrisburg, PA., will discuss his move full-time to the 410 central Pennsylvania sprints and what he is looking for with the '06 season underway.

We will then talk with a great driving talent on the big block and 358 modified dirt car circuit, Duane Howard, as the 42-year-old throttle-jockey out of Oley, PA., talks about his career to date, his success and recent victories at, both, Bridgeport and Grandview and his '06 opportunities to steer a Chad Sinon owned BPG Motorsports car, among other topics.

Finally, we will chat with Mike Stefanik, a very talented racer who was the winner at Thompson last weekend in the annual "Ice Breaker" pavement modified event. Stefanik will talk about his career and his 2006 goal towards a seventh Whelen Tour championship, which would tie him with the late Richie Evans, overall.

This will be a great show. Make sure to listen in.

Dustin Jarrett -- O'Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series PR

Don O'Neal Nabs O'Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series Season Opener at Florence Speedway

Union, KY -- In a tune-up for Saturday Night's Spring 50, Don O'Neal beat Mother Nature and a stellar field of 58 entries to capture the O'Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series 2006 Season Opener Friday night at the Florence Speedway. The caution-free, 30-lap main event was completed in less than 10 minutes.

Brian Birkhofer and Dan Schlieper brought the field to green with Schlieper getting the early edge. Birkhofer continued to hound Schlieper for the point as Timmy Yeager fought off 7th-starting Don O'Neal for third. O'Neal soon moved past Yeager as Birkhofer raced door-to-door with Schlieper for the top spot. O'Neal wasted no time tracking down the lead duo as the Martinsville, IN native made it a three-way dance by lap 4. Simultaneously, "Birky" nosed ahead of Schlieper to credit himself with the lead. Meanwhile, behind the front three, Yeager, Darrell Lanigan, Scott James, and Jerry Rice were dicing back and forth.

After several side-by-side laps, O'Neal finally cleared Schlieper on lap 8 and began to work on Birkhofer for the point. With Schlieper still knocking on the door, the leaders closed up to the back of the field on lap 12. On the next circuit, O'Neal used the back markers to his advantage and pulled even with Birkhofer in a bid for the top spot. Birkhofer quickly closed the door, but "The Real Deal" fought back as Dan Schlieper watched patiently from 3rd.

O'Neal officially grabbed the lead on lap 16, but only after several laps of doorhandle-to-doorhandle racing with Birkhofer. Not giving up without a fight, Birkhofer continuously looked high and low on O'Neal in an effort to reassume command of the race. Behind them, a fierce fight for 5th saw James working on Lanigan with Rice in tow. And just behind them, an equally entertaining show saw Brad Neat and Tim Tungate dancing for the 9th position.

With less than 10 laps remaining, Birkhofer and Schlieper closed the already small margin between themselves and race leader O'Neal as the veterans continued to slice and dice through lapped traffic. Birkhofer made another challenge for the lead in turns three and four with just seven laps to go, but O'Neal quickly
shut the door. As the final few laps ticked away, both Birkhofer and Schlieper stayed glued to O'Neal, but neither driver could muster up quite enough momentum to complete a pass.

When the checkered flag waved, Don O'Neal was the first to cross the stripe in the Eller Motorsports, Independence Lumber, Firefox Reality/Grayson Farm & Leasing, Jay Dickens powered, MasterSbilt Chevy Monte Carlo.

Muscatine, IA's Brian Birkhofer was second in his Pro Power/Rocket Chevy Cobalt. Third went to Dan Schlieper of Sullivan, WI in a Pro Power/Rayburn Chevy Monte Carlo.

Harrodsburg, KY native Timmy Yeager took fourth in the Pro Power/Rayburn Chevy Monte Carlo. Rounding out the top five was Scott James of Greendale, IN in his Jay Dickens powered Rocket Pontiac GTO.

Dating back to 2004, Don O'Neal's win made it 28 different in the last 31 races for the O'Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series presented by Arizona Sport Shirts.

The nation's most competitive regional racing series heads back to Florence on Saturday, April 15th, for the Spring 50 paying $5000 to win. Another complete program will be on tap with Racing Optics Time Trials, Mason Racin'/Arizona Sport Shirts Heat Races, Design 500 B-Mains, and the 50-lap O’Reilly Auto Parts A-Main. Pit gates will once again open at 4pm with the General Admission gates opening at 5pm. Racing Optics Time Trials on Saturday night will begin at 6:30pm with Racing at 7:30pm. had to do it verizon was getting worse every month so I am now a vonage cust. Hell 24.95 and can call anywhere I want to and talk as long as I want to.

Now a small rule statement:  For EOS racing classes it has been brought to my attention that steam roller tires have been used by some racers and have gone through tech that way. Steam rollers are not allowed to run that was discussed last year at the rule meeting and if they went through they should not have been allowed and will not be allowed from here on I am told there is another plastic hub type of this tire out there and it will not be allowed either Big hubs are ok but they need to look like a tire not a hub with some skin on it LOL

We will be having a meeting in the morning before the start of the Vintage Modified race for rules for the 1/32nd and vintage modified classes so if you are a MEMBER and want to have a say the discussion for these classes will be at 915am at West York Raceway, York PA May 6, 2006 all other classes will be discussed beforfe the Nastrucks take the track

There will be no topics about big cars in the am meeting and no topics about small cars in the pm meeting so if you have interest in both then you need to be there for both meetings.

Also the york race because of the time it takes to have a meeting it will take from practice time some so from the time doors open until the first meeting at 915am there are to be no 1/24th cars on the track at all the only classes allowed practice in the am will be the am classes no Trucks, Busch, or 4 1/2 Nascar.

REMEMBER RULE MEETINGS ARE OPEN TO MEMBERS ONLY THE ONLY EXCEPTIONS ARE TRACK OWNERS ARE ALLOWED TO BE INVOLVED

O'Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series Set for Florence Double-Header

LEXINGTON, KY -- After the 2006 season openers at Ponderosa Speedway were washed out last weekend, the O'Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series presented by Arizona Sport Shirts will now visit the track that closed out the 2005 season, Florence Speedway, for back-to-back shows this weekend.

Friday night, April 14th, the King Family's Florence Speedway will play host to the nation's most competitive regional racing series for the Spring 50 Tune-Up. A complete program for the O'Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series will feature Racing Optics Time Trials, Mason Racin' Heat Races, B-Mains, and the 30-lap 50 Tune-Up paying $3000 to win. The pit gates for this event will open at 4pm with the general admission gates opening at 5pm. Qualifying is slated to start at 7pm with Racing at 8pm. Adult General Admission is just $13 and kids ages 6-11 will be admitted for just $1 with a paying adult. Pit Admission is just $23.

Saturday night, April 15th, will be the Spring 50 for the O'Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series at Florence Speedway. Another complete program will be on tap with Racing Optics Time Trials, Mason Racin' Heat Races, B-Mains, and the $5000 to win Spring 50. Pit gates will once again open at 4pm with the general admission gates opening at 5pm. Qualifying on Saturday night will begin at 6:30pm with Racing at 7:30pm. Adult General Admission for the Spring 50 is just $15 with kids ages 6-11 being admitted for just $2. Pit Admission is just $27.

The excitement building for the upcoming weekend double-header at Florence Speedway is unparalleled as the O'Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series comes off its most competitive season ever, in which the series saw an unprecedented 18 different winners in 20 different races. The exclamation point on the season was the logjam atop the points standings in which Tim Tungate, Mike Jewell, and Whitney McQueary were separated by less than 100 points heading into the final race of the 2005 season at Florence. The end result was a deadlock for the top spot in the standings with Jewell and Tungate being crowned Series Co-Champions. That same excitement and suspense is carrying over into 2006 as nation's most competitive and most exciting regional racing series begins another season of fierce competition this weekend at Florence.

Florence Speedway is a 1/2-mile, high-banked, clay oval located just south of Union, KY on US 42. For more information on Florence Speedway, visit their website at www.florencespeedway.com or call the track office at (859) 485-7591.

Al Purkey Racing comes out of the gate strong

Coffeyville, KS - The 2006 racing season is underway for the Al Purkey Racing team with two weekends of racing in the books.

The entire APR team traveled with the O'Reilly MLRA to Lakeside Speedway on March 31 to kick off the 2006 season with high hopes of defending their title. Al was able to wheel the completely new Larry Shaw/Hatfield Racing Engines #33 to the third spot in the heat race after starting in the sixth position. The A feature saw Al roll off in the tenth position, but it didn't take him long to work his way towards the front. At the drop of the checkered flag the team took home a sixth place finish. "We're happy to start off the season like this," stated Purkey after the race. "Everything on the car is brand new so we really didn't know what to expect and to finish in the top ten is a good start to the year."

The next night the team headed north to the beautiful I-80 Speedway at Nebraska Raceway Park on April 1. Once again Al found himself starting towards the back of the heat race, but worked towards the front again and grabbed the third spot at the finish. The A feature rolled off and Al had the 33 gliding around the I-80 surface at full bore. Continuing on the strong run from the night before Al found himself holding down the third position as the field raced under the checkered flag at the end of the 30 laps event.

The APR team took time at the shop to prepare for the following weekend where they would travel back into Missouri for races at LA Raceway in LaMonte, MO and Winston Speedway in Winston, MO on April 7 and 8.

The night at LA Raceway began on a good note as the team found their way into the second position as their heat race completed. The run from the sixth starting spot gave them enough passing points to start the 40 lap feature event from the outside of the front row. At the drop of the green Al dashed into the top spot and began a fierce battle with Terry Phillips for the top spot, but Al was able to hold on through several early race cautions. After running side by side with Phillips for nearly 25 laps Al slipped back to second and eventually finished in the fourth position as the race ended. "To be Honest, the car was never really that good," commented Al in the pits afterward. "We're also still figuring out exactly what this new Larry Shaw Race Car wants, but we'll get that figured out."

The following night the team traveled to Winston Speedway where APR swept both O'Reilly MLRA events in 2005 and was looking for another great finish. Starting on the outside of row one Al battled with early leader Johnny Bone Jr. until working into the lead on lap 17. From that point on Al was able to hold on through several late race cautions and lapped traffic for the first win of the 2006 racing season for Al Purkey Racing. By virtue of the win Al also moved into the O'Reilly MLRA point lead. He continues his quest to become the first five time champion in series history.

BERNEHEISEL RACE CARS TO AWARD ULMS CHAMPIONS

Bernheisel Race Cars Inc., of Jonestown, Pennsylvania will award the 2006 ULMS BRC Lazer Series dirt late model champion and Rookie of the Year  champion a new Lazer G2 chassis.  The United Late Model Series will open  their 2006 campaign on Saturday, April 29 at McKean County Raceway with the
$2000 to win, Jim Duffy Memorial.

ULMS Director, Chris Zuver, commented, “I am very excited about the upcoming  season.  With Bernheisel Race Cars coming on board and offering our series  champion and our rookie of the year a new car, this is real good incentive  for some young drivers that can not afford a new rolling chassis to get into  a new car for the 2007 season without the big cost.  Bernheisel’s client  list has been growing over the past few years as he obviously has done well  in his own brand on the MACS and the old Renegade circuit.  Dan Stone of  Thompson, PA, Alan Sagi of Hagerstown, MD and Todd Andrews of Eldred, PA are  a few of the notable drivers that have won in the Lazer brand.”

For the ULMS series champion and rookie of the year to obtain the new Lazer  G2 chassis they must purchase the following:  front and rear suspension  kits, steering kit, brake kit and rear-end kit for $5,995.00. The total  package of the new car is valued at $11,000.  The new BRC Lazer G2 must also  been raced at least ten (10) times in 2007.  Also the 3rd, 5th and 7th place  car in ULMS points will receive gift certificates good toward any purchase at Bernheisel Race Cars Inc.

To be eligible for the ULMS rookie of the year, drivers must register with ULMS before the first event of the season.  The driver MUST have never won a ULMS feature event or have less than five years dr iving experience in a late model.  ULMS "Rookie of the Year" points will count at all point events in
2006.  Upon registering for ULMS "Rookie of the Year", driver may not compete for "Rookie of the Year" in future racing seasons.  The driver  selected as ULMS "Rookie of the Year" will be determined by highest finish  in points and declared "Rookie of the Year" at end of the season.

The chase for the new Lazer’s starts April 29 at McKean County Raceway in  East Smethport, PA, where the winner will walk away with a minimum of $2000  for his 30 laps of effort.  For more information, check the new ULMS website

Upcoming events: Sunday, April 23rd, regular show featuring modifieds, late models, street stocks, thrillers and 4 cyl. Thrillers, along with TQ midgets

Brittain, Fisher, Kline, Price and Sager Grab Opening Gold at Mountain Speedway

St. Johns, PA- After several days of rain showers, opening day went on as scheduled at Mountain Speedway. Fans witnessed twenty-four asphalt modifieds on hand, along with twelve late models, twelve street stocks, seventeen thrillers and eleven four cylinder thrillers. All the racecars took to the pavement Sunday with hopes in getting an early season feature win. Typically, opening day consisted of time trials. However, that has changed for this season, as each division ran heat races to qualify for the features.

After taking heat wins, Earl Paules, Don Wagner and Pete Brittian took up the first three positions for the start of the 30-lap Balliet’s Country Corners modified feature. Paules held command over the first two circuits, but the caution flew when Ernie Dengler, Amanda Sesley and Matt Clemmens collected in turn one. On the restart Paules spun and had to rejoin the tail end of the field, which put ‘pistol’ Pete Brittain in command.

After several one-car incidents, it wasn’t until mid race when the field began to stretch out and the faster machines motored toward the front. By lap thirteen, Zane Zeiner took second from Wes Swartout. Kory Rabenold used the same move around Swartout, and Brian Defebo moved into the top five. Meanwhile, Wagner held sixth, while Eddie Brunnhoelzl and Andy Walko slid back into the top ten after earlier problems.

With only a few laps remaining, the race up front tightened up between Brittain, Zeiner and Rabenold, as the three were nose-to-tail for many laps. Zeiner followed Brittain’s line religiously, but was unable to top the Jersey native, as he rode to the checkers for the opening day mod win and $2000 prize. Zeiner held Rabenold off for second, Swartout and Defebo rounded out the top five.

In victory lane, Brittain noted, “It’s great to be back here racing at Mountain Speedway and winning again. Also, thank you to Joe (Martinelli) for putting up an extra $500 toward the purse”. He continued by thanking his crew and sponsor, First Choice Builders.

Mike Sweeney and Larry Fisher shared the front row for the start of the 25-lap late model opener. Fisher immediately jumped out front when the green dropped, bringing Joe Hoffman and Mike Coll in toe, as Sweeney settled into fourth.

Eight caution-free laps passed until Rick Smith spun in turn three, which brought out the yellow. Smith rejoined the tail end of the field.

While in second right before half way, trouble struck Hoffman in turn two. Hoffman looked strong early on, but he would have his work cut out to try and come back through the field with sixteen to go.

The last caution flew on lap nineteen when Smith and Hoffman collected in turn three. At that point, Fisher continued to lead over a hard racing Coll, Jim Lamoreaux and Joe Barbush. Fisher continued out front after the restart, but felt the pressure that Coll applied lap after lap. As the two dueled it out up front Lamoreaux, Barbush and Smith fought it out for third.

Fisher went on to take the hard fought win over Coll, Lamoreaux, Barbush and Smith. “Man, now that’s class”, noted Fisher in victory lane. “He (Coll) could have taken me out, but gave me room. That’s hard racing and he earned my respect for the future,” said Fisher.

Brad Kline and Todd Geist started up front for the 20-lap street stock feature. Kline immediately lurched out front, but Geist tucked in right behind. Rodney Gruber joined the mix in third and Erick Danyluk and Paul Frantz rounded out the top five.

With five laps in the books, Scott Meckes was showing strength and moving through the pack. However, his day ended early when smoke began fluming from underneath the hood of his ride.

The first of four yellows flew when Jimmy White and Chip Wanamaker tangled in turn two. Both drivers were able to continue. The caution waved again, but this time for Danyluk when he cut down a right rear on lap eleven. After quick pit work he too rejoined the field.

“Hollywood” Geist applied serious pressure to Kline over the mid-race laps, but by the end of the feature, Kline had built up a cushion over Geist. Paul Frantz battled with Billy Vanderveen to finish third and fourth respectively. Gruber rounded out the top five.

Bill Price, Derek Kline and Ricky Ross shared the top three slots for the start of the 20-lap thriller feature. Price darted to command when the green fell, but Kline stuck on the outside of Price to wager a terrific battle in the early going.

By lap ten Ross had been passed by Shaun Burd and dropped back to fourth. However, he ended up getting loose entering turn one and spun. The spin collected the sixth place machine of Howie Bott. Bott was not able to continue.

Burd worked his way around Kline and into second. With sights set on a distant Price, Burd closed in and the two fought side-by-side for a number of laps. In the end, it was Price, who took the win over Burd by less than a half of second.

During his victory lane interview Price noted, “Man, this is great to come out and race like that against Shaun Burd”.

After winning the heat race earlier in the afternoon, Harry Sager started on the pole for the 20-lap four-cylinder thriller feature. However, before one lap was complete, the caution flew when William Hallstead spun in turn three.

Green flag racing resumed and all twenty laps were run caution-free. Chris Meeker jumped into second behind Sager and Bob Wink held third. By the sixth circuit, Wink took second and Travis Fisher moved into fourth after starting sixth, with Jamie Damon right behind.

At one point, Sager had a sizable lead, but Wink closed in lap after lap. In doing so he eventually caught Sager and the two dueled it out for the second half of the show. Door handle to door handle, the two fought back and forth, without even exchanging paint. In the meantime, Meeker and Fisher sat in third and fourth, just waiting for the top two to tangle.

Over the final lap, Wink had one more shot at Sager, but a lapped car came into play and diminished his hopes of victory. Sager went on to claim his very first victory in the division over Wink, Meeker, Fisher and Damon.

Because of the Easter holiday, next Sunday is an off-week for the speedway. All the action will resume on Sunday, April 23rd at 2 PM with all five regular divisions, along with the TQ midgets. For all information, results and point standings at Mountain Speedway, please visit their website at www.mountainspeedway.com

News from Reading Fairgrounds race organizer,Mike Grim is nothing but positive. The Reading Fairgrounds did give Mike and his RSCA Historical Society the go ahead with another season of racing during the Reading Fair week.Rich Tobias,Jr. the president of the Slingshot organization has also learned that a tentative date of August 10th will be used for the Briggs & Stratton Slingshot by Tobias as a raindate for the scheduled National Touring events to be held August 7th & 8th.Grim also wanted it to be known that the track will undergo some changes as far as the length of the speedway being doubled to a 1/5th mile from it's previously measured 1/10th.Turn radius which was a problem for a few teams will be altered giving less of a paperclip effect and make for more corner speed and passing. The purse structure for this event will be the same as, if not more than the overwhelming payout in 2005.$1,000 to win is presently guaranteed with sponsorship and other outside interests getting involved could make the payoff increase even more as it gets closer to the 2nd year of high speed entertainment on this newly built facility.
Mike Grim and the whole RSCA Racing Historical Society were very pleased with the turnout of estimated 1,500 racing fans for the inaugural event at the Reading Fairgrounds in 2005.
