Late Model R.O.Y. Trevor Phillips Looks Ahead To ‘07

Orrville, OH --- 18-year-old Trevor Phillips, a third generation driver and part of the famed Jacobs family racing dynasty, who scored Rookie of the Year honors in Super Late Models at Wayne County Speedway in Orrville, OH and Hilltop Speedway in Millersburg, OH as part of Team GLR, is looking forward to his 2007 racing season after completing a successful inaugural year as a dirt Late Model driver in his Cowen Truck Lines, Bishop Collision Repair, Reliable Mold & Pattern Inc., Bert Transmission and Indy Corp sponsored Rocket Chassis/Malcuit Racing Engines #6.

Phillips would like to thank all of his supporters who helped make the high school senior’s first season in a dirt Late Model so rewarding before Team GLR announces a new slate of major sponsorship for the ’07 season in the coming weeks.

“This would be and endless list because so many things had to happen and so many people had to help just to make it happen,” commented Phillips. “Bishop Collision & Repair center, Bert Transmission's, Reliable Mold, Cowen Truck Lines and Hoosier. And I’d like to thank Wayne County Speedway for all the practice time.”

“My Dad (Jerry Phillips), George Lee and I could go on and on but the list would be incomplete without Team GLR. It took a lot for them to take on a rookie driver and that they did. Many times Team GLR worked all night to repair my Rocket Chassis, Ford Malcuit powered #6 so I could try it again. The biggest thanks of all goes to them, Team GLR, especially Root, Dave, Kerrisa, Aaron & Chuck.”

“Thanks To all who made my dream come true. And to all of the race fans and fellow competitors, Happy New Year and may your dreams come true in 2007. 2006 was great and I can't wait for the 2007 season to start.”

“Next season we will be bigger, better and faster!”

Within the next ten days or so Team GLR will be making special announcements regarding their slate of 2007 Team GLR sponsors.

George ‘The General’ Lee Prepares for 2007 Late Model Season

Orrville, OH --- George ‘The General’ Lee, 43, recently concluded his 12th season behind the wheel of his Cowen Truck Line, Hague Crystal Clear Water, Bert Transmission, Mason Racin, Braswell, Hoosier Tire - HTMA, Afco Racing sponsored Rocket Chassis/Malcuit Racing Engines #21. Lee, a major part of Team GLR, would like to extend his appreciation to sponsors, race fans and fellow competitors for such an exciting season as he prepares for a trip to Florida and the annual Winternationals at East Bay Raceway sanctioned by the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series.

“I could not have raced in the 2006 season without the help from Cowen Truckline, Hague Crystal Clear Water, Malcuit Racing Engines, Mason Racin’, Bert Transmission, Trick Race Parts, Brazwell Carbs, AFCO Racing Products and Rocket Chassis,” commented Lee. Lee is married to Sherri and they also have a daughter, Alisa, a son, Adam and three grandchildren. Lee’s son is a captain in the U.S. Air Force.

“Behind every driver is a crew of people who does not get enough praise for all of their hard work. I have the best crew anyone could ask for, hands down.”

“Picking up a rookie driver (Trevor Phillips) has put a ton of work onto them, and they have responded unbelievable. Going from a one-car team to two cars, a new driver, sometimes meant late night repairs so we could run the next night all while not once asking for anything in return. Priceless!”

“Thanks to Sherri Lee, Jeff (Root) Long, Dave Hazelet, Kerrissa Darr, Aaron Hullett, Mark & Ed Hagen and Jerry Phillips.”

Lee’s George Lee Racing (GLR) crew consists of Jeff ‘Root’ Long, Dave Hazlett, Karisa Darr, Aaron Hulett, Mark Hagen and Ed Hagen.

”2006 was a year of many highs and lows,” commented Lee. “Sometimes the lows were hard to swallow, but that is what drives us to compete. Rookie drivers and new tracks both build up a team to perform to their best.”

“Team GLR (George Lee Racing) would like to wish everyone a blessed New Year’s holiday season and to keep our servicemen & women & their families in our thoughts & prayers.”

”The 2007 season will be upon us before we know it. GLR is really excited about upcoming season and with new sponsors we are looking to bust out of the gates with a full head of steam.”

Within the next ten days or so Team GLR will be making special announcements regarding their slate of 2007 Team GLR sponsors.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

DIRT LATE MODEL & FLAT OUT Magazines Sold To Three Wide Media

Knoxville, TN --- Beginning January 2, 2007 the extremely popular dirt track racing oriented national magazines Dirt Late Model and Flat Out will have new ownership when Three Wide Media based in Independence, IA assumes proprietorship of the magazines from Mind Over Media Publishing, announced Dean Nardi of Mind Over Media and Brian Lillie of Three Wide Media on Wednesday morning.

"I feel we are passing the torch on to the right person in Brian Lillie to carry on the tradition of fine quality publishing that was begun 12 years ago with Dirt Late Model magazine,” stated Nardi. “Brian is bright and energetic and clearly has the best interests of the sport at heart."

Three Wide Media, an offshoot of sorts of the successful eCreative Group is headed by Lillie, Mike O’Connor and Rick Hartzell, all of whom have extensive backgrounds in the dirt racing industry.

“Our decision to purchase the magazines was based on a few different factors,” explained Lillie. “The first factor was our passion for the sport. Regardless of how well a person can run a business if there isn’t a passion for it, it’s just work. I’ve always been inspired by those who took a hobby and made it a career.”

“The second reason was because of my other company, eCreative Group. At eCreative Group we have a division that is dedicated to motorsports marketing. We’ve worked with numerous sanctioning bodies, tracks, promoters, and race teams over the past couple years. We felt that the addition of these two magazines made our agency stronger, and visa versa, we also feel that our agency makes the magazines stronger.”

Subscribers and advertisers will see little immediate change in production, printing, staff and content other than the goal to expand the scope and depth of the publications.

"There should be no apparent changes to either magazine,” commented Nardi. “The entire staff will remain in their current position. There is no reason to mess with something that works very well. At the same time, it will be very exciting to see how the new owners expand upon the business and use their expertise to grow the company in years to come."

“The only change is the name of the publishing company and the location of the corporate office from Knoxville, TN to Independence, IA,” added Lillie. “All employees of Mind Over Media Publishing will continue to be employees of Three Wide Media. We’re very excited about having everyone stay on board too. They’ve all done such a wonderful job taking the magazines to the level that they are currently. We have plans to expand in a few areas to give more benefits to subscribers and advertisers alike. With the current team, and the addition of my team at eCreative Group, we believe we are poised and ready to take these magazines to the next level.”

Lillie and associates also have some specific goals in place for the publications.

“Our goals with the magazines are to continue with the road map that Dean has put in place,” said Lillie. “To add value to the magazines we plan on developing a new online presence that will serve as an extension of the great coverage that they both currently have for subscribers. For advertisers, there will be online marketing tools that will add tons of value and even return on their advertising investment.”

“In short, we just want to stay on track with the success that they’ve both had so far and continue to grow them.”

Tim Lee will remain as editor of Dirt Late Model while Justin Zoch retains the editor’s position at Flat Out. Susan Bauer Lee and Martin DeFries will also remain as art directors of Dirt Late Model and Flat Out, respectively.

Both magazines feature some of the top Motorsports writers and photographers from around the country including Al Martin III, Todd Turner, Bryan Householder, Paul Fletcher, Doc Lehman, Scott Wolfe, Doug Kennedy, Barry Johnson, Mike Sullivan, Bob Markos, Kendra Jacobs, Michael O’Leary, Tony Hammett, David Allio, Bob Appleget, Robbie Ray, Jerry Reigle, Pete Zanardi, Jim Butler, Mike Campbell, Rick Schwallie, Chuck Gonzales, Ron Meyer, Ken Coles, Mike Nelligan, Steve Koletar, Tom Hein, Mike Feltenberger, Brian Tidball and dozens of others.

Nardi, who two years ago went into partnership with Carl Short as the promoters of the famed dirt Late Model ‘crown jewel’ race, the Dirt Track World Championship, will consider additional race promotions once Three Wide Media assumes ownership of the magazines.

"For my wife Theresa and myself, there is a sadness with letting these two magazines go,” commented Nardi. “We've been in the racing business as publishers since 1990 and as competitors and fans for many years before that. It's been a huge part of both our lives. But as Pete Seeger has said, 'There is a season and a time for every purpose, under heaven.' This is a good thing - both for the new owners of the
magazines and us - and a time of new beginnings."

Checkered Dreams Charity Prepared for Consecutive Motorsports Appearance

Atlantic City, NJ (December 27, 2006) – For the second consecutive year, Checkered Dreams, a non-profit racing charity for seriously ill and disabled children, will be one of the charities of choice at Motorsports ‘07 in January. Presented by VP Racing Fuels, the show, which runs from the 12th of January through the 14th, should be gigantic, as it will be held at a new location- Atlantic City, NJ.

During the three-day event, a slew of racing memorabilia will be up for auction at the Checkered Dreams booth. Items such as sheet metal, autograph cards, shirts, racing suits, shirts, banners, etc. from a wide variety of NASCAR and local race teams will be on tap for the auction. Just as they were last year, many local and national drivers will be at the booth through out the show, signing autographs for their loyal fans.

Probably the most popular item on hand for the auction will be a leather fireman's helmet, which was signed by NASCAR star and comedian, Kenny Wallace. Only two of the classic pieces were produced. The winner of the auction will receive one and Wallace has the other, which also makes it a rare collectable for any Wallace fan.

Originally from Pennsylvania, Ziegler and her family moved to North Carolina during the summer, which expanded the charity from the tri-state area to basically the entire North East. “Now that the office has relocated, the NASCAR community is proving even more supportive”, Ziegler noted. “With any luck we're hoping to hold events along the entire East Coast over the next couple of years. “We’re already planning many Checkered Dreams events for ’07, many of which are back near our old hometown in the tri-state area”.

At least fourteen drivers, track and series representatives are slated for autograph signings through out the entire weekend. More may be added as the show date approaches.

The drivers and representatives on hand for autograph sessions are:

Eddie Brunnhoelzl III- ’06 Mountain Speedway modified champion will be on hand for autographs on Saturday, long with Don Wagner (’06 Mahoning modified champion), Kory Rabenold (RoC asphalt series R.O.Y.) and Eric Beers, the popular NASCAR Whelen modified tour driver. Rabenold will be on hand Friday as well.

Saturday will also showcase the all ladies “Full Throttle” autograph session from 12-2 PM. Ford focus midget driver, Stephanie Stevens will be on hand, along with Jill Canuso (NHRA and monster truck driver), Ms. NEETS- Cindy Bott, Ms. Mountain ‘06- April Makarewicz, Jackie Ziegler (Late model and IMCA modified driver) Melanie Thomas (Rear tire changer for the #72 Nextel Cup team) and Marissa Nelmes (Thriller driver). Nelmes will also be signing on Sunday with Ms. NEETS (Cindy Bott) and Ms. Mountain ’06 (April Makarewicz) and Ziegler will be signing Friday along with Saturday.

Josh Oswald- Mountain thriller most improved driver will be meeting with the fans all three days and Pat Haragan, a Mahoning Valley late model driver will be signing on Friday and Saturday. Enduro/Thriller drivers, Howie Bott and Richard Petey will be signing autographs both, Saturday and Sunday.

More may be added in the future. For a complete listing of people signing, auction items, along with more information in regards to Checkered Dreams and Motorsports ’07, please visit www.jackie88racing.com

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

RENOVATIONS CONTINUE AT FIVE MILE POINT SPEEDWAY DURING THE OFF SEASON. ANNUAL SOUTHERN TIER OPEN SLATED FOR SUNDAY, APRIL 1ST.

KIRKWOOD, NY…The quarter mile at Five Mile Point Speedway continues to see renovations taking place during the off season. Mild fall temperatures have allowed work crews to accomplish a substantial amount of work in the last several weeks. The annual Southern Tier Open for Modifieds will once again start the season with this years date slated for Sunday, April 1st.

Presently crews have been able to fill in the entire turns three and four “moat” with material taken from behind the backstretch retaining wall. At the same time crews were able to reset the six foot high concrete wall on the backstretch which was in danger of tipping over due to back pressure. Mountains of dirt were used to fill in the third and fourth turns which will ultimately be widened by another twenty to thirty feet.

The turns three and four concrete block retaining wall is in place and will eventually be moved out further to accommodate the widened racing surface. The new material will need the winter months to settle before the wall can be pushed out to its permanent position. All of the work has been done in a manner to which will allow racing to take place as soon as the winter months wind down.

The track has also been completely resurfaced and more clay will be brought in and put down as weather and time permits this winter. Any clay that cannot be put down this winter will be added after the running of the Southern Tier Open.

Five Mile Point Speedway owner Andrew Harpell remarked, “We did this work in a fashion that will allow us to race anytime once the weather breaks in the spring.” He added, “The racing surface is “race ready” for our scheduled opening weekend on March 30th and April 1st.”

Harpell has just completed his third year as preparations are underway for the 57th consecutive year of racing. Since his return to the speedway a number of major improvements have taken place. In 2004 the speedway infield retaining wall guardrails were removed in favor of concrete blocks. The infield runoff area was dramatically widened to give teams plenty of space to get out of harms way. At the end of that season the turns one and two “moat” was filled in and banked dramatically opening up two to three more racing grooves. The backstretch area was re-opened that season as well and that area is now used weekly as an overflow pit. The impressive electronic message board was repaired with weekly sponsor messages displayed each week. Several buildings were also renovated as well.

In 2005 the homestretch retaining wall was repaired with concrete blocks set into place as part of the project. Major resurfacing took place as well along with a number of bleacher repairs and other projects.

After the 2006 running of the Southern Tier Open a massive undertaking took place at the speedway which transformed the facility dramatically. All of the homestretch light poles and fencing were removed for brand new fencing and a brand new state of the art stadium lighting system. All of the old above ground wiring was buried underground for fantastic race video visibility as well. The speedway victory lane roadway was built on top of the homestretch wall so that fans could get an up close involvement in the ceremonies.

The Miller Lite message center was moved to turn 1 for better race fan visibility as well. New caution lights and a reconfigured flaggers stand added to the improvements. Turns three and four were widened on the inside of the speedway with new drainage put in place in that area. The pit area also saw new above ground bleachers put in place in a newly elevated viewing area.

This latest phase of improvements is just a portion of the work to be done in the years to come at Five Mile Point Speedway. Plans are in place for a new bleacher setup along with many other improvements in the years to come.

Harpell commented, “I plan on being around here for quite a while and look forward to working on the future improvements at the speedway. Each year we will continue to work at making Five Mile Point Speedway one of the premier facilities in the northeast.”

The Southern Tier Open will take place on Sunday, April 1st with an open practice day slated for the day prior. The first point race and official 57th season opener will take place on Saturday, April 28th with a Modified 100 lap lid lifter and full program.

A complete 2007 racing season schedule will be available in the weeks to come. For additional information please contact the Five Mile Point Speedway offices at (607) 775-5555 or log on to www.fivemilepointspeedway.net  for more. Next up is the annual Champions Award Dinner at the Binghamton Regency Hotel and Conference Center on Saturday, January 6th.

Hendry County Speedway News & Results from Dec. 9th, 2006 / Mike Budka Claims 2nd.

December 10, 2006 – The weather was cool, but the cars were hot last Saturday at the New Hendry County Speedway. Pure Stock, Late Models, Mini Mods, and Sprint Cars raced the night away. The heat generated from the hot motors warmed
the Fans in and around the stands as they watched their favorite local heroes blaze around the track.

In the Pure Stock division Johnny Moseley #68 and Thomas Hill
# 1 fought back and forth for the lead position. Each driver trying to find the perfect groove around the clay oval until they both tried to be in the same spot at the same time. Finally, both racers ran into each other; metal bending and crunching as caution went out again. The Flagman had to make a difficult call. Who caused the collision? The Flagman’s call was that it was Thomas Hill’s #1 car, so it was sent to the back of the pack, leaving Mosley’s #68 in the lead and to win the race. Jay Carver in #77 fought for second, with the # 43 for third, and Conrad Molter #55 came in fourth after climbing from thirteenth in the start. In a surprise to the Hendry County Staff at the Winner’s circle, Johnny Moseley surrendered his Trophy and prize money to Tommy Hill in an act of sheer sportsmanship. Mosley told track officials that it was a very tough call on the collision that sent Hill to the back of the pack, but Thomas Hill was the true winner. When Moseley was asked if it were for a points championship and $10,000 would he have still surrendered the trophy he stated "yes.” His mother brought this young man up right. This is the kind of dedication and professional gamesmanship we know we can only hope for here at the Track.

Late Model action was a pure adrenalin rush as Justin Choquette #97 was on two wheels as his late model fought gravity for a 1st place finish followed by Greg
Crowe #89 and Richard Wheelihan #7. What a show! It was a tug a war all night with these guys. The crowd was pelted with clay as the 800 hp engines thundered
around the Hendry County Speedway Saturday night.

In the Mini Mod division Jack McClain #21 and Mike Budka (aka “Black Flag Billy”) #64 fought it out in a tight race. The race finished with Jack McClain in first, Mike Budka second, and #35 in third.

It was an exciting night and dangerous when the Sprint Cars dazzled the audience with the high-pitched whine from the sprint cars. The fans cheered and than went
silent when RC roper hit the wall in his sprint car at high speed. After some minor repairs, Roper’s orange and blue Spirit of USA sprint car came back onto the track and dazzled the audience again with his high speed and expert maneuvers.
This exhibition was truly spectacular.

As the Night was closing on the track, Track officials received a call from Santa Claus. Some robbers had stolen Santa’s bag of toys. Santa had hopped into a racecar to chase them down and is expected to meet up with the thieves on December 16 at the New Hendry County Speedway, which is located 3 miles south of Moore Haven on U.S. Highway 27 North.  www.newhendrycountyspeedway.com

Upcoming regular events:
Saturday, January 6th – “Mountain Madness” enduro series “Frostbite Twin 100’s” (www.mountainspeedway.com).

It’s “Full Speed Ahead” for Mountain in ‘07

St. Johns, PA- Mountain Speedway recently announced that the “Frostbite Twin 100’s” enduros would be the icebreaker for a new and improved season. In what should be the best season that the speedway has had in a number of years, the annual New Year’s kick off is slated for Saturday, January 6th.

“If the overwhelming number of phone calls that the track office has received since the announcement of the six race series are any indication of the response given from the drivers, the fans will definitely see some hardcore enduro racing”, said Mountain’s co-promoter, Mike Odwazny. He continued, “In addition, many regular Mountain drivers showed interest and have offered support for the upcoming season”.

Along with minimal rule amendments, the regular ’07 season schedule is also coming together. The rules will be available within a couple of weeks. “I’ve been in contact with a number of touring series lately”, said Odwazny. “We’re completing the schedule for the regular season and hope to have something in the near future”, he said.

Up next, and for ’07 are the Mountain Madness enduros, which will make their debut on Saturday, January 6th with the running of the “Frostbite Twin 100’s”. The distance for each, the 4 cylinders and the 6/8 cylinders will be 100-laps.

Along with the $600 to win (4 cyl. and 6/8 cyl.) trophies, which are Courtesy of Jim’s Busy Bee Pest Control, will be awarded to the top five finishers in each division. An award will be presented to the driver with the best appearing car and also to the driver who had the most twisted car by the end of the day. The award will be dubbed the “twisted metal” award. Since the original race announcement, trucks have been added to the show. If twenty or more 4/6-cylinder trucks are registered, they will run their own 50-lap enduro, with $300 to win. If less than twenty trucks are present, they will run with the 6/8 cylinder cars. “This show will be the footprint of a terrific season we have planned”, said Odwazny. “The Frostbite 100’s will break the ice for the new management and officials at the speedway, plus it will help introduce the fans to a quality show”.

The pit gates will open at 8 AM. There will be a drivers meeting at 12:15 PM and the enduro machines will take to the speedway at 1 PM. Grandstand admission for all ages is only $5. If you bring a canned food item to help support a local charity, the admission cost will drop to $3. The Mountain Madness enduro series schedules will be available at the January 6th event.

A racer’s pre-season “swap meet/flea market” for mid March is also in the planning stages.

Banner Season For Slingshots

From the first green flag at the Sammons Atlantic City Gambler Classic Production in January to the checkered flag at Wilson's Motorsports Park in Santuck,  Alabama on November 18th,the Slingshot by Tobias race teams were fast, furious and entertaining.

National and Regional tour dates were now being booked in California and Alabama as the Slingshot by Tobias Series continues to grow.  An exhibition weekend at Margarettsville Speedway in North Carolina found 24 teams heading south and working out the early season bugs as the March racing was very intense.  Expansion for 2007 will now find the Slingshots in the states of Minnesota and Indiana with possible dates in Mississippi and Virginia.

The local season started at Borger's Speedway with Jim Housworth and Cody Dalrymple getting the first point wins of the season for the regular and Junior Slingshotters.  The first tour race was held at the Middleford Speedway for the Easter Extravanganza with eventual Southern Tour Champion Kyle Ebersole showing some early muscle in the Ebersole Excavating 5E.

The first national event of 2006 was held at Wilson's with 22 year old Shawn Cater finding victory lane aboard his colorful # 49.On May 6th,the West Coast region held it's first-ever Slingshot Touring event with Fred Baker and the Lightning # 9 getting the win at Cora Speedway.  As the season progressed win totals were mounting for King Ferry, NY chauffer Mike Mahaney in the Mahaney Motorsports # 33 and Mike Butler in the family owned # 4.Finding victory lane was a tough chore for many veterans with the new young crop of talented racers entering the regular division.

With the mid-season tour in full swing in all regions and hometracks such as Linda's Snydersville, Hamlin, Borgers, Wyalusing Valley and Kutztown in the PA area and Paradise, Caroga Creek, Starlite and the late season addition of Oakland Valley making the New York fold more demanding, there was Slingshot racing for all the teams from every area.

Tour races at the Oswego Dirt and Oswego 3/8 Asphalt track brought the PA guys in to challenge the NY stars and both states fared well with Mike Mahaney winning the first ever Oswego Dirt event and Steve "The Traveler" Hicks setting some Slingshot speed records enroute to a convincing win on the asphalt. Notching some wins along the way were Lindsey Rutherford, Phil Snyder, former modified standout Stan Friedman at Snydersville, Cliff Pierce, Harry Hamlin winning a tour race at Bridgeport, TJ Mayberry, Andrew Damiani, Charlie Shaver, Bob"the Bossman" Finley, Devon Parmeter, Codie Berk with outstanding Junior performances from Dillon Emmons, Ryan Wood and Cody Coons.

"Nitro"Nick Pecko was a Southern Region mainstay atop the standings with his season long battle with Marc Daniels and Kyle Ebersole and with the major Nationals coming, there was no letting down on anyone's maintenance programs as all cars were now heading into the big money events with National Championship status on the line.

Hamlin Speedway introduced the Supers Slingshot class for drivers over 35 and it turned out to be a class that gained momentum with each passing week.  Richard Curtis became the first Supers Champion and it looks like this class will continue at Hamlin in 2007.

The Reading Fairgrounds Nostalgia Nationals left the racing fan heading home satisfied after watching Marc "The IceMan "Daniels grab the $1,000 top prize with Ryan "Mr.Versatile" Smith almost nipping him at the checkers and Bill "The Dream "Weaver under the blanket finish.

The West Coast Region found domination in the name of TJ Etchison as the 4X was a 4 time winner with a National win at Petaluma on Sept.2nd.Northeastern Region Champ Steve Hicks used the Oswego win and good runs at Accord and the Oswego Dirt Track to help his cause.Mike "The Magician" Mahaney was the most dominant force with his impressive runs at Paradise, Starlite, Black Rock and Oswego Dirt in his Northwestern Region crown.  The 3 way Gulf Coast Region battle was settled on the last night of the season as point leader Jeff Crook was bedridden with the flu and relinquished the top spot to Lee Mason who won by only 16 points to Shawn Cater.  Southern Champion Kyle Ebersole was a model of consistency with his conquest of Middleford and Linda's Speedway and his fine runs at Wyalusing Valley and Selinsgrove.

Showing some determination and definite driving skills during 2006 were 2 time tour winner "Sassy" Shannon Smith, Selingrove winner Nate Christman, Kutztown season ender and Wyalusing Valley Tour winner Ben "Flipper" Whitaker,Back to School Hamlin National winner Kyle Rohner and Mike Butler with his stellar performance at the Grandview Speedway event. With the crop of Juniors such as Kutter Beavers,Chris Achenbach,Emily VanInwegen ,Ryan Wood, Cody Dalrymple, Johnny Benson, Greg Frable and Ron Smykla, Jr there will be an outstanding gradual progression of talent.

Track championships were contested right down to the final race at some speedways with Joel Smith just besting Jim Housworth and Marc Daniels at Kutztown and Billy VanInwegen holding on for the Hamlin crown.  Mike Mahaney was the Paradise titleholder with Rick LaMont in the Caroga Creek spotlight.  A Friday/Saturday double for Jim Housworth at Borger's, Kyle Ebersole at Linda's and Paul Quear getting the first ever Wyalusing championship.  Mike Butler's win totals helped him to the 2006 Snydersville top spot

With his 3rd place finish at Wilson's,14 year old, Vandling, PA resident Nick Pecko displaces 2005 National Champion Steven Intravaia who's valiant late season charge left him just short of a back-to-back championship run .The Dave Pecko owned # 42 recorded 34 top 10 finishes in 39 races run, an incredible feat due to the competitive nature of this racing class.

With 72 different feature winners in the regular class and 21 in the Juniors it was a wide open, fun season for the drivers, crews and fans alike.   The 22 different tour event winners were given an added bonus with the Weikel Racewear specialty victory lane hats and they became a treasured item at season's end.

The Slingshot by Tobias class is growing and looks to be heading in the right direction with it's affordable racing technology.  Schedule additions hope to include tracks such as Thunder Mountain, Shenandoah and added Nationals at Selinsgrove, Grandview ,Oswego and a possible season ender at the Talladega Short Track. An exhibition weekend is slated for Putnam County Speedway in Florida on Feb 9 & 10th with hopeful confirmation of 2 additional dates at Volusia County.

The 2007 season is just around the corner with many teams heading to Atlantic City for the 2007 version of the Sammons' Gambler's Classic.  Anyone interested in this class can find more info at www.slingshotbytobias.com  or by calling the main office at 717-866-7450.

Happy Holidays to everyone and a special thanks to all race teams, fans and promoters for a banner 2006 racing season.

Mountain Speedway Announces “Mountain Madness” Enduros for Next Season
“Frostbite Twin 100’s” Slated For January 6th; Odwazny Named Co-Promoter

St. Johns, PA- Mountain Speedway promoter, Joe Callavini recently announced that major changes were in the works for his speedway for next season. While many of these changes will be released later in the off-season, the most recent announcement was that bone stock enduro racing would make its debut at the speedway in January. The “Mountain Madness” enduro series six-race schedule will kick off on January 6th, with the running of the “Frostbite Twin 100’s”

Run like a true to form enduro, the “Mountain Madness” enduro series will feature inexpensive “bone stock” automobiles for low budget racers, helping make enduro racing cheaper than it ever was. Both, the four cylinder and 6/8 cylinder divisions will have a three wide rolling start. Without yellow flags, only red flags will be thrown for serious incidents, or if a driver is in a dangerous situation on the speedway. “Dead” cars will be left on the speedway.

Registration for drivers that enter the events will be $40. Transponder rental is $12 and the driver pit fee is $28, which makes the tally for a day of racing $80 (less than $1/lap). Trophies will be awarded to the top five finishers in each division, plus an award will be presented to the driver with the best appearing car and also to the driver who had the most twisted car by the end of the day. The award will be dubbed the “twisted metal” award. The purse, which is unheard of for a bone stock division is great as well. The winner will receive $600. All drivers who finish in the top ten will receive a payout. On race day, drivers will pull from a bucket to determine their starting spot.

Callavini later announced that Mike Odwazny would be filling the role as co-promoter during the upcoming season. Odwazny has over 20 years of experience in racing. Starting off as a crewmember at Riverhead Raceway, the Long Island native proceeded up the racing ladder through enduro racing, followed by factory stock and then street stocks. Most recently, Odwazny has been an official and co-announced several at Mountain. “Joe (Callavini) has a lot of faith in me, and the upcoming year looks fantastic”, noted Odwazny. “Being on both sides of the fence here at Mountain over the last few seasons, my goal is to provide the fans with quality racing so they can go home knowing they got their monies worth. “There are a lot of great things that we have in the works, as far as many improvements on and off the track. ”The new enduros should be a success and hopefully well get some fans from the stands behind the wheel of some enduro cars. It’ll be a fun race to kick off the New Year. Like I say, why bring them to the junkyard”, he said.

There will be six events for the new enduros on the schedule, none of which will be on national holidays. “The new series is designed for fun”, noted Odwazny. The Mountain Madness enduros will even have a points system and drivers that finish in the top ten overall for the season will receive awards at the annual Mountain Speedway banquet. Mountain Madness enduros will make their debut on Saturday, January 6th with the running of the “Winter Wonderland twin 100’s”. The distance for each class will be 100-laps.

It was also announced that the modifieds, late models, street stocks, thrillers and four cylinder thrillers would be returning to action on a regular basis next season. Please stay tuned to the Mountain Speedway website for the upcoming schedule and/or rule amendments.

“Herman” Wallace is 10th Inductee into NASCAR’s Fire Department

Atlantic City, NJ (Nov. 23, 2006) – For the second consecutive year, Checkered Dreams, a racing charity for seriously ill and disabled children, will be one of the charities of choice at Motorsports ‘07 in January. Presented by VP Racing Fuels, the show, which runs from the 12th of January through the 14th, will be gigantic, as it will be held at a new location- Atlantic City, NJ.

During the three-day event, a slew of racing memorabilia will be up for auction at the Checkered Dreams booth. However, the most popular item by far isn’t up for any auction. It will be raffled off from tickets that are currently being sold. The winner is chosen through a raffle ticket drawing on the last day of Motorsports ’07..

For the 10th consecutive year, a one of a kind fireman’s helmet with a NASCAR driver’s autograph will be up for grabs. The uniqueness of the item is that there are only two in the entire world. Yes, only two! The driver chosen for the year will keep one of the helmets and the other will go to the raffle winner.

This season, NASCAR star and comedian, Kenny “Herman” Wallace was chosen for the honor. While at Martinsville, VA in October, Checkered Dreams president, Sue Ziegler met with Wallace to hang out and witness the signing of the two pieces.

The nine other NASCAR stars which Herman will now share honors with are: Richard Petty, Darrell Waltrip, Rusty Wallace, Matt Kenseth, Jeff Gordon, Dale Earnhardt, Sr, Dale Earnhardt, Jr, Bill Elliot and Michael Waltrip.

Raffle tickets will be available at Motorsports ’07, and are currently available through the Checkered Dreams website at www.jackie88racing.com. Ticket prices are $1 a piece, or six for $5.

Ziegler noted that she has been receiving a number
