SAXTON SCHEDULES SPONSORSHIP SEMINARS AND OFFERS FREE HELP
LANGHORNE, PA OCTOBER 28, 2006 . . . Sponsorship success is what many racers are
looking for and veteran sponsorship marketing Guru Ernie Saxton is offering them
the opportunity to learn how to have success.
Saxton, who has been involved in motorsports marketing for more than 35 years,
will present a two hour “Sponsorship Success” seminar on December 13th in
Orlando, Florida. The seminar, offering a wealth of information on how to be
successful in securing sponsorship and keeping sponsors happy, will start at 7
p.m. and will be followed by a question and answer session.
A second “Sponsorship Success” seminar is set for February 16th in Daytona
Beach, Florida with an 8 a.m. starting time.
The cost to attend each seminar is $149.95 per person and that includes a one
year subscription to Saxton’s Motorsports Sponsorship Marketing News, the
monthly newsletter that has helped many throughout the country and
internationally with their sponsorship marketing efforts.
Registration for each seminar is limited to 50 people. Two or more people from
the same family, team or organization can register for just $125 per person.
“The cost to participate in the sport continues to grow and many racers are
finding that they can no longer afford to be part of it without sponsorship
support,” said Saxton. “We have kept the cost of the seminar very reasonable and
even throw in the newsletter subscription (normal price is $89.95 per year) to
give racers some ammunition to help their efforts.”
Saxton’s column on Sponsorship Marketing can found monthly in the pages of
National Dragster and he is often quoted in media articles on sponsorship
marketing. He has presented seminars at many locations throughout the United
States, including Alaska, and he has presented seminars in Canada.
The seminar will show attendees how to locate potential sponsors, what to offer,
how to create a proposal, working with the media, add value to the sponsorship
package and much, much more.
“We figured that many racers would be at the PRI show in Orlando and would like
to take some time to learn how to be a success at sponsorship marketing,” said
Saxton. “One big problem I see with racers seeking sponsorship is that they
really never start the process because they don’t have a plan in place and don‘t
have the proper tools.”
The Daytona Beach, Florida seminar is just two days before the Daytona 500.
Saxton invites everyone to visit his website at
www.saxtonsponsormarket.com
where they can find a great deal of FREE information and also find sponsorship
helps that are available for purchase.
Registrations are accepted at 215.752.7797 or 215.752.2392 and major credit
cards are accepted.
A FREE copy of Motorsports Sponsorship Marketing News is available by sending a
self addressed stamped #10 business envelope ($.63 postage) to ESC, Inc. 1448
Hollywood Avenue, Langhorne, PA 19047.
Keep in mind that seating for both seminars are limited. Saxton is not in a
position to increase the space available for the seminar so there will be no
more than 50 registrations at each seminar.

MEDIA NOTE: If you have interest in attending one of our seminars please fax me
on media letterhead. We are always anxious to do interviews and help the media
with any stories that they may be doing on sponsorship marketing in motorsports.
THANK YOU.

SPACE IS FILLING UP FOR MOTORSPORTS 2007 PRESENTED BY VP RACING FUELS AT
ATLANTIC CITY, NJ CONVENTION CENTER
ATLANTIC CITY, NJ September 1, 2006 . . . Interest in Motorsports 2007 presented
by VP Racing Fuels is running very high. “There are companies that were not part
of the show in the past that have taken exhibit space and others that are giving
it serious consideration,” said show manager Joe Pratt. “And the renewals by
past exhibitors have been outstanding.”
Motorsports 2007, set for January 12th to 14th at Atlantic City Convention
Center, will fill more than 275,000 square feet offering just about everything
imaginable in motorsports.
“We offered all of our past exhibitors the first choice in renewing for the 2007
show,” said Pratt. “Now whatever exhibitor space is left is available on a
first-come, first-served basis and it is going fast. Those planning to be part
of the show should be in touch to make arrangements as soon as possible. We
don’t want anyone to be left out.”
This will be the 22nd edition of the “midwinter motorsports extravaganza” but it
will be the first time the show has been presented in Atlantic City and that has
created tremendous interest.
Racers and fans are really excited about the show because there will be
“Gambler’s Classic” Three Quarter Midget and 600cc Micro Sprint racing taking
place in the evenings during the same weekend just down the road at Boardwalk
Hall.
More than 275 motorsports vehicles were on display at the 2006 show and that
number is expected to increase. There will also be a hardcore manufacturer’s
section making up a large part of the show and those interested in collectables
will find a large area devoted to just that.
Motorsports 2007 presented by VP Racing Fuels will include more than 400 racing
dealers representing parts manufacturers, engine builders, safety equipment,
racing fuels and lubricants plus much more. Many speedways and sanctioning
organizations will be using the show to announce their plans for the 2007
season.
Among the exhibitors already set for the 2007 show are A-1 Racing Products,
Classic Enterprises, Wilwood, Pro Race Cars, Bicknell Racing Products, Design
500 Racewear, Gold Rush Trailers, Media Camping Center, Kirkey Fabrication,
Robison Racing Products, Star Transporters, Winters Performance, American Racing
Drivers Club, United Racing Company, Behrent’s Performance Warehouse, Genesis
Shocks, Hyper Racing and the list goes on.
A complete exhibitor brochure is available by telephoning Joe Pratt at
609.888.3618.
“It is truly a huge weekend in the auto racing industry with the show and the
indoor racing all happening in the same town,” commented show organizer Len
Sammons. “Fans are loving it because they can make one trip and see racing and
the show. There are great reasonable rates being offered at local hotels. I
think this is going to be a record setting weekend for both events.”
Again this year US Smokeless Tobacco will host the Ms. Motorsports Pageant and
there will be opportunities for fans to meet some of their racing favorites and
collect autographs. A variety of industry seminars will be presented during the
weekend.
Information on Motorsports 2007 and the Gambler’s Classic indoor auto racing
events can be found at www.aarn.com.
Both the Flagship Resort (1-800-647-7890) and Sheraton Atlantic City

SCHEDULE FOR WEEKEND OF MOTORSPORTS (SHOW AND RACING) IN ATLANTIC CITY SHOULD
MAKE FANS HAPPY
ATLANTIC CITY, NJ, JUNE 23, 2006 . . . The weekend of January 12-14 is shaping
up to be one huge motorsports attraction in Atlantic City, N.J. Run in
conjunction with the Motorsports 2007 Expo presented by VP Racing Fuels, to be
held for the first time at the Atlantic City Convention Center, the thrill of
live auto racing will return to Boardwalk Hall when Len Sammons Motorsports
Productions presents the 5th Annual “Gambler’s Classic” for the Three Quarter
Midgets/600cc Micro-Sprints. The Slingshots and Sr. Champ Karts will also be in
competition during the two-day event.
Racing is planned for Friday and Saturday, January 12-13, while the Motorsports show will span three days. “This is going to be one big racing weekend,” said Len Sammons, who has presented the mid-winter Motorsports Show since 1986. He brought indoor racing back to Atlantic City in January, 2003 after an absence of 22 years. “The interest we’ve had already from racers, manufacturers, exhibitors and fans has been outstanding. People are excited.”
Race enthusiasts will now be able to enjoy the Motorsports show by day and auto racing at night. Racing begins at 7:45 p.m. on Friday and 7 p.m. on Saturday. Gates will open for competitors at 3 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. The Motorsports show will close at 7 p.m. each night.
Aside from combining the excitement of two outstanding mid-winter weekends, the indoor race and show combo halves travel costs such as tolls, accommodations and fuel. The Three Quarter Midgets and 600cc Micro Sprints will again headline the indoor action with a 40-lap A-Main paying $2,000 to the winner, plus a possible $3,000 more if they’ve paid the optional “Gambler’s Fee.” That equates to a possible winner’s share of $5,000.
To set the 24-car starting field, the TQs/600s will run time trials and three “Roaring 20s,” a trifecta of 20-lap qualifying races, on Friday night. Saturday’s action will include C- and B-Mains. Slingshot competitors have the opportunity to race for $1,000 - a $500 purse plus $500 more if they roll the dice with the “Gambler’s Fee.” The Slingshots will compete in the “Dirty Dozens,” three 12-lap qualifiers on Friday night. Two Non-Qualifiers events will be run on Saturday afternoon, before the 25-lap A-Main takes center stage on Saturday night.
The Sr. Champ Karts have been rewarded for their outstanding show in 2005. Besides being moved to Saturday night, in front of the big crowd, a $500 winner’s share has been posted this year. Last place will pay $50.
“Everyone really enjoyed the show the Champ Karts put on l ast year,” Sammons said. “They earned their right to run on Saturday night (last year, the Sr. Champ Karts as part of the afternoon Small Car Nationals).”
“Triple 10s” on Friday night and a pair Non-Qualifiers events on Saturday afternoon will set the field for Saturday night’s 25-lap Sr. Champ Kart A-Main.
All competitors must enter in advance. No entries will be accepted on race weekend. Entries may be limited due to parking limitations. Entries and rules will be available shortly at: www.aarn.com.
Last year, International Super Modified Association driving star “Liquid” Lou Cicconi Jr. of Aston, Pa., swept the weekend, setting fast time, winning his “Roaring 20” and taking home $5,000 for the TQ/600 A-Main win. His total weekend earnings: $5,893.39 Cicconi said afterward that winning the main event at Atlantic City was a lifelong dream.
Cicconi joined dirt Modified driver Jeff Heotzler (2005), fellow Supermodified wheelman Joey Payne (2004) and Canadian Andy Mackareth, a Can-Am Three-Quarter Midget racer (2003) as A-Main winners since the revival of the indoor auto racing action in Atlantic City.
Kunkletown, Pa.‘s Ryan Smith, a regular on the United States Auto Club Ford Focus Midget Series, won the Slingshot portion of the weekend. Brett Stratford (Saturday) and Andrew Hutchinson (Friday) were Sr. Champ Kart winners.
Sponsorship opportunities remain available for the race and the show.

MOTORSPORTS 2007 AND INDOOR AUTO RACING DOUBLEHEADER IN ATLANTIC CITY, NJ
ATLANTIC CITY, NJ JUNE 13, 2006 . . . Motorsports 2007 presented by VP Racing
Fuels, will move to Atlantic City in January, creating a blockbuster off-season
weekend for motorsports enthusiasts in the seaside resort town.
The 22nd edition of the Motorsports Expo is set for January 12-14 at the plush Atlantic City Convention Center, Len Sammons Productions announced on Monday.
The Mid-Winter Motorsports Extravaganza will coincide with the annual Atlantic City Indoor Race at nearby Boardwalk Hall, where Three Quarter Midgets and 600cc Micro-Sprints will battle on January 12-13. The Indoor Race has been moved up one week from its 2006 date to make Atlantic City a Mecca of motorsports activity.
Motorsports 2007 moves to the Atlantic City Convention Center after a successful 12-year run at the Fort Washington (Pa.) Expo Center. The recent sale of the Fort Washington complex prompted Motorsports 2007 show promoter Lenny Sammons to locate a suitable new site.
Piggy-backing the show with the Atlantic City Indoor Races, which Len Sammons Productions has also promoted for the last four years, was the logical solution.
“Bringing Motorsports 2007 to the Atlantic City Convention Center and moving the Indoor Race to the same weekend will set up a huge weekend for auto racing fans,” said Sammons, who launched the Motorsports show in 1986. “They will be able to make a single trip to an exciting city and take in one of the country’s best motorsports shows during the afternoon and witness exciting live auto racing at night.”
Time schedules for Motorsports 2007 and the Atlantic City Indoor Races are still in the planning stages, but the show will occupy the morning and afternoon hours and the racing action will dominate the evenings after the Expo closes on Fri., Jan. 12, and Sat., Jan. 13. The A.C. Convention Center and Boardwalk Hall are separated by only a few city blocks.
“This move will help take Motorsports 2007 to a new level because the Atlantic City Convention Center is such a superb, professional facility,” said Sammons. “We’re also anticipating record attendance for the Indoor Races because of the interest that will be created by a doubleheader weekend.”
Motorsports 2007 will occupy nearly 300,000 sq. ft. of the A.C. Convention Center, which serves as agateway to the town. It is not only easily accessible by car but also by train, since a New Jersey Transit ail station is connected to the facility.
The show will retain its popular mix of hard-core manufacturer booths and
speedway, race car, collectibles and interactive displays. Free technical
seminars for racers will continue to be offered throughout the event, and fans
will have ample opportunities to obtain free autographs from some of
the biggest stars in motorsports.
Detailed exhibitor information for Motorsports 2007 will be available soon, but already interest in the show is high.
“We’ve gotten an overwhelming response from vendors concerning the move to Atlantic City,” said show manager Joe Pratt. “Everyone is excited to be part of a show at first-class venue like the Atlantic City Convention Center.”
Exhibitor info on Motorsports 2007 presented by VP Racing Fuels may be
obtained by calling Joe Pratt at 609-888-3618. Additional information is
available at www.aarn.com. Info on
special hotel room rates in Atlantic City for the weekend of Jan. 12-14
will be available in the near future at

SHORT RESULTS!!!
KELLNER AND STOUDT WIN FEATURES AT GRANDVIEW ON SATURDAY NIGHT
Veteran racing talent Jon Kellner was denied an opening night victory when a
sour motor put him out of action while leading the main event. However on
Saturday night Kellner had everything in the Hutt Glass/Patriot GMC #85am
Modified working just perfect as he won the 30-lap NASCAR Modified stock car
feature at Grandview Speedway. Randy Stoudt was able to hold off strong
challenges from Ron Kline after an early race battle with Mike Kellner to win
his first NASCAR Late Model feature race of the season.
Danny Erb was a strong second in the Modified main event followed by Doug
Manmiller, Ray Swinehart and Craig VonDohren.
In the Late Model 20 lapper Ron Kline finished a close second to Stoudt and was
followed by Mike Kellner, Steve Sennott and Harry Neiman
The excitement of NASCAR stock car racing returns to Grandview Speedway on
Saturday night, April 15th, with NASCAR Modifieds and Late Models, at least 12
events of racing being offered starting at 7 p.m.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
JON KELLNER AND RANDY STOUDT WIN FEATURES ON A WILD NIGHT AT GRANDVIEW
BECHTELSVILLE, PA APRIL 16, 2006 . . . Jon Kellner must have needed some tax
money as he drove like a man on a definite mission. The veteran racer wheeled
the Cary Duncan owned Hutts Glass/Patriot GMC #85AM Modified to victory on
Saturday night in the 30-lap NASCAR Modified feature race at Grandview Speedway.
Randy Stoudt added another feature win to his growing career total of 31
victories winning the 20-lap NASCAR Late Model main event Saturday night in the
Rogers Auto Parts #22.
Kellner had a victory pretty much in his pocket on opening night at Grandview
Speedway when a sour engine forced him out of the event. Winning the 30-lap
feature on Income Tax night may have made up for the disappointment of the
opening night loss.
The Lansdale, PA racer had a relatively easy time of it as he inherited the lead
from early leader Don Norris when he spun while leading on the third lap. Once
in front Howard survived a few cautions and a red flag for a seven car pile-up
on he main straightaway to lead all the remaining laps and win by a comfortable
margin.
Danny Erb had an impressive second place finish. The Boyertown racer came from
14th starting spot by Wyomissing’s Doug Manmiller came home third after starting
15th. Ray Swinerhart (Bechtelsville) grabbed fourth while five time champion
Craig VonDohren (Oley) finished fifth after a 16th place starting spot.
The Late Models had another wild night with the 20-lap feature plagued by
cautions and single file restarts put in place by the 12th lap. Buddy Wharton
took the green and the lead to be number one on the first circuit. Mike Kellner
was quick to move to the front and lead until the 10th lap holding off strong
challenges from Randy Stoudt. On a caution restart Stoudt, who calls Pottstown
home, put the #22 Late Model in front of the pack and lead all the rest of the
laps.
However in the closing laps defending champion Ron Kline (Green Lane) charged
forward to give Stoudt a scare but he was not strong enough to take command and
had to settle for second. Third spot went to Mike Kellner (Lansdale) followed by
Steve Sennott (Gilbertsville) and Harry Neiman (Bower Beach, DE).
Strange was the fact that Stoudt never had a chance to celebrate his win in
victory lane as he stopped in turn two after taking the checkered flag and
requested first aid attention for a shoulder that was bothering him. The problem
apparently was corrected and he did have his victory lane photos taken after
racing had been completed.
Qualifying heat races for the Late Models were won by Randy Stoudt, Ed Trimbur
and Ron Kline.
The six qualifying heat races for the NASCAR Modifieds were won by Jason Smythe,
Larry Solomon, Jon Kellner, Jeff Strunk, Kevin Hirthler and Danny Erb.
Consolation race victories went to Tracy Readinger, Tom Umbenhauer and John
Willman.
Late Model drivers were able to collect $1,600 from fans in the stands for the
injured Kevin Grebe. The rookie Late Model racer was critically injured in a
highway accident and is currently confined to the Lehigh Valley Hospital in
Allentown, PA.
NASCAR sanctioned Modified and Late Model stock car racing returns to Grandview

RAVE REVIEWS FOR FIRST MID-ATLANTIC ROD AND CUSTOM SHOW
DAN SWISHER TAKES HOME $5,000 FOR BEST OF SHOW AWARD
FORT WASHINGTON, PA April 2, 2006 . . . With a steady stream of people making
their way through the aisles of the Mid-Atlantic Rod and Custom Show there
seemed to be nothing but rave reviews from participants, exhibitors and
attendees.
“We have gotten nothing but great comments about the show. They have ranged from
the large turnout of cars, the quality of vehicles on display, to the carpeted
aisles and more,” said show organizer Len Sammons. “It was a great weekend and
all of us involved with the show appreciate the support given the show.”
More than 300 vehicles representing hot rods, custom cars, muscle cars, exotics,
classics, low riders, pick-ups, tuners and more filled the 275,000 square feet
of the Expo Center.
Daniel Swisher of Jonestown, PA earned the Best of Show award and received a
beautiful trophy and $5,000. Swisher’s partner of more than 30 years, Deb
Gibson, took control of the check. “None of this would be possible without her,”
said Swisher.
His winning entry, a 1957 Chevy Coupe, was purchased for $300. With the help of
Snik’s Rod & Custom in Manley, Iowa; four years of time was invested in the
creation that sports the original 283 stock engine. The “Swishair” was competing
in just its fourth show.
While he held the check and trophy he was asked if the car was for sale The
Jonestown, PA resident responded with a quick “no” and then added, “If the price
is right.”
The car will disappear now for a while as some work is done to get it ready for
a Thanksgiving show. Swisher does about 30 to 40 shows a year.

Roadster; Ron Mule, Hamilton, NJ and his 1960 Vespa; Joe Mazone, Delmar, NY and

MORE THAN 300 CARS VALUED AT MILLIONS OF DOLLARS ON DISPLAY AT SHOW
FORT WASHINGTON, PA March 31, 2006 . . . The Fort Washington Expo Center may
never have been worth as much money as it was during today’s opening day of the
Mid-Atlantic Rod & Custom Car Show. More than 300 cars valued at tens of
millions dollars filled more than 270,000 square feet of the huge complex.
An impressive crowd turned out for opening day of the first annual show
and they were treated to the opportunity of seeing some outstanding custom cars,
hot rods, street rods, exotic cars, trucks and more.
There is still plenty of time to see the entire show as the Mid-Atlantic Rod &
Custom Car Show continues through Sunday, April 2nd at 4 p.m. Tickets are
available at the main entrance with adults paying $14 and children pay $5.00.
Master car builder Boyd Coddington, well known for his TV show, drew large crowds for his autograph sessions during opening day of the show.
Ken Fenical attracted a great deal of attention with his “Posies” Aeroliner creation that was inspired by a 30’s era French coachbuilder and sporting cars. Ken is signing autographs and talking with fans throughout the weekend.
Fenical point out that he was impressed with the first time show and
indicated it was one of the best shows he has attended in the last few years.
The Shark A.T.T.A.K. , a Barris Design and Kinds Built creation, is a stunner
that had attendees marveling at what had been a 1938 Graham Roadster.
Ricky Nelson’s 1932 Ford, seen in the 1950’s television sitcom, “The Adventures
of Ozzie and Harriet”, has a prime location at the main entrance to the show.
Paul Lemat, best remembered as the brooding hot rodder in the iconic movie
“American Graffiti”, is signing autographs at the show and showing off his 5
window Ford coupe that was also part of the movie.

Days” is on display throughout the entire weekend.

p.m. on Sunday.
Show attendees in a buying mood may want to visit the Car Corral where it is
expected there just may be some bargains being offered.
Motorsports fans will enjoy getting up close to a NASCAR Nextel Cup or a
sprint race car.
A variety of vendors offering everything from magnetic bracelets (they are
suppose to solve some of your aches and pains) to collectables and more are
located throughout the 270,000 square foot show area.
Show attendees just might want to set aside some money to purchase an official event program book because it includes a map of the show, photos of just about all participants in the show and a listing of who is in what booth on the show floor.
“We are really quite pleased with the turnout for opening day,” said show
organizer Len Sammons. “And we think that we will see a lot of activity at the
show on Saturday and Sunday. There are some very impressive looking cars on

EASTERN MOTORSPORT PRESS ASSOCIATION ANNOUNCES 2007 CONVENTION DATES
LANGHORNE, PA February 26, 2006 . . . Fresh off a highly successful 2006
convention, the Eastern Motorsport Press Association has announced plans for
2007.
“We have decided to stick with the last weekend in January (January 26-28th) for
our convention. It seems to be a date that conflicts least with anything else
going on in the business,” said EMPA president Ernie Saxton. “We are planning
some changes in how the convention is presented and what is included in the
three days. The site of the convention, the Radisson Hotel & Conference Center
in Trevose, PA, will remain the same.”
The Eastern Motorsport Press Association, founded in 1969, represents more
than 200 professional media members who cover the sport on a regular basis.
EMPA’s goal is to get more speedways, sanctioning organizations, race teams and,
of course more media involved in the convention.
“We are looking at including more workshops during the convention for those who
want to improve their skills,” said Saxton. “There is the possibility of a
public relations seminar to help PR people improve their relationships with the
media. One of our main goals is to improve the coverage given the sport not only
for major events but also the local short tracks.”
The most recent convention had support from NASCAR, Indy Racing League, American LeMans Series, Pocono Raceway, DIRT Motorsports, SPEED Channel, Performance Racing Industry magazine, Valvoline and Chad Sinon Motorsports.
“We invite teams, speedways, sanctioning organizations and sponsors to be
part of the convention,” commented Saxton. “There are opportunities to make
presentations to the media members, create a rapport with the media that covers
the sport and, perhaps, improve media exposure. “

STRUNK AND REA FORM STRONG TEAM FOR GRANDVIEW AND BIG DIAMOND RACEWAY
READING, PA January 26, 2006 . . . Veteran Modified stock car racer Jeff Strunk,
a winner of 20 championships during his career, has teamed up with Reading’s
Johnny Rea, a successful car owner, to challenge for the 358 Modified
championships at Grandview Speedway and Big Diamond Raceway.
“Johnny and I feel we are going to have a very strong team to go after the two
speedway titles and make a run for the NASCAR Division II championship (worth
more than $25,000 at the end of the season),” said the five time Grandview
Speedway NASCAR Modified champion. “ With Johnny’s success, winning a NASCAR
championship at Big Diamond with driver Keith Hoffman in 2002, and my success at
both Grandview and Big Diamond (a four time champion), we feel we are going to
be tough to beat.”
The JR Motorsports team will field a Teo chassis Modified with Barry Gechter
power plants. Gechter has built engines for Strunk in the past when he won
titles with owner Keith Harring in 2000 and 2002 at Grandview Speedway.
The Johnny Rea owned Modified will carry the No. 1.
Strunk and Rea have been working overtime getting their new Teo chassis racers
ready for the busy season ahead. The team just came together in the last couple
of weeks.
Rea and Strunk are in the process of negotiating sponsorship for the team. They
will be announcing their sponsors and team colors in the very near future.
In addition to racing the 358 Modifieds at Big Diamond Raceway in Minersville,
PA on Friday nights and Grandview Speedway in Bechtelsville, PA on Saturday
nights, Strunk is also looking to put together a 25-30 race schedule of Big
Block Modified events running both the Advance Auto Parts Super Dirt Series and
the Race of Champions Series.
Strunk is coming off a strong season having won his fourth straight Modified
title and his fifth career title at Grandview Speedway. Strunk race 37 358
Modified events with five wins and he had eight races in the Thunder on the Hill
and Race of Champions’ Big Block events getting two wins.
In addition the 37 year old racer ran six races at Bridgeport, NJ Speedway with
all top six finishes including a second. He earned a second at Hagerstown, MD
Speedway plus a third at Delaware International Speedway and two wins at Penn
Can Speedway in Susquehanna, PA.
In addition to his NASCAR title at Grandview Speedway in 2005, Strunk also
earned the Comdial Thunder on the Hill Modified Championship and the Race of
Champions Southern Regional title.
During his long career Strunk has tallied 114 career Modified victories.

A DREAM COMES TRUE, LOU CICCONI JR WINS ATLANTIC CITY BOARDWALK HALL ‘GAMBLER’S
CLASSIC” AUTO RACE
ATLANTIC CITY, NJ January 21, 2006 . . . The auto racing event Lou Cicconi Jr.
has so dearly wanted to win is finally on his resume.
Cicconi realized a longtime dream on Saturday night, capturing the 40-lap
Atlantic City Indoor Race 'Gambler's Classic' A-Main for Three Quarter Midgets
and 600cc Micro-Sprints at Boardwalk Hall.
The 41-year from Aston, Pa., grew up attending the traditional wintertime TQ
Midget shows at the then Convention Hall, but the series ended in 1981 before he
could enter as a competitor. He was thrilled when Len Sammons Productions
revived the indoor spectacular in 2003 and has been chasing a victory ever
since.
Cicconi has won A.C. Indoor Race fast-time awards and preliminary events over
the past three years, but the checkered flag in Saturday's finale has proved
elusive. He found the right recipe on Saturday.
"Indoor racing is all about luck," said Cicconi, whose $5,000 first-place payoff
included a $3,000 bonus for posting a $100 'gambler’s fee' prior to the race.
"Tonight we had it."
Cicconi grabbed the lead on lap 27 when his good friend and rival, Joey Payne of
Fairlawn, N.J., had an unfortunate scrape with the lapped car driven by Bobby
Watkins of Levittown, Pa. The contact with Watkins was hard enough to partially
break Payne's steering wheel, leaving him with an injury to his right hand.
Payne, who had passed Mike Dicely of Lewisberry, Pa., for the top spot on lap
11, was never a factor again. He basically drove one-handed until a blown engine
eliminated him as he was struggling to maintain a top-five spot on lap 38.
"I think Joey Payne and I were pretty equal," said Cicconi, who started fourth
driving Ken and Larry Hentrich's TQ Midget. "We had a good race going, a real
clean race.
"But that's the way we race each other. There's no way I’d rough up Joey Payne.
There's a lot of respect there between us."
Cicconi mastered the two restarts over the final circuits to cross the finish
line ahead of Dicely, who finished as the 'Gambler's Classic" runner-up for the
second straight year.
Jack Spence of Bear, Del., finished third, followed by Mike Lichty of Innerkip,
Ont., and B.J. MacDonald of Dublin, Pa.
Jon Gambuti of Point Pleasant, N.J., was transported to a local hospital about
being shaken up in a multi-car accident on lap 10 of the A-Main. He was alert
and speaking with safety workers while being removed from his car and was not
believed to be seriously injured.
Ryan Smith of Kunkletown, Pa., overtook Middletown, N.Y.'s Scott Goodrich for
the lead late in the distance en route to winning the 20-lap Slingshot by Tobias
division feature. Goodrich settled for second place, followed by Joel Smith of
Palmerton, Pa., Jim Housworth of Riegelsville, Pa., and Pat Bealer of
Walnutport, Pa.
Slingshot national champion Steven Intravaia of Saylorsburg, Pa., upstaged a
field of asphalt and dirt Modified stars to win the 15-lap Slingshot Celebrity
Race.
Asphalt Mod standout Tony Hirschman, finished second, ahead of Doug Hoffman
(dirt Modifieds), Jimmy Blewett (asphalt Mods), Frank Cozze (dirt Mods) and Alan
Johnson (dirt Mods).
Winners during Saturday afternoon's 'Small Car Nationals' were Christopher Allen
Jr. (Young Lion Slingshots), Richie Byrne (Sportsman Micro Stocks), Tom Ervin
(Outlaw Micro Stocks) and Ontario’s Brett Stratford (Champ Karts).
A large crowd entered the Boardwalk Hall stands for the mid-winter event, which
for the first time in four years was run on a weekend that boasted ideal weather
conditions. Last year's Saturday-night show was marred by a snowstorm that led
to a state of emergency in New Jersey.
Plans for the 2007 indoor events will be announced in the near future.
TQ Midget/600cc Micro-Sprint ‘Gambler’s Classic’ A-Main Finish (40 laps): 1. Lou
Cicconi Jr., 2. Mike Dicely, 3. Jack Spence, 4. Mike Lichty, 5. B.J. MacDonald,
6. John Ivy, 7. Rick Eckert, 8. Heath Hehnly, 9. Mike Tidaback 10. Robbie Nixon,
11. Billy Pauch, 12. Mike Iles, 13. Cody Darrah, 14. Joey Payne, 15. Ted
Christopher, 16. Bobby Watkins Jr., 17. Bill Unglert, 18. Frank Polimeda, 19.
Curt Michael, 20. Stewart Friesen, 21. Danny Shirey, 22. Jon Gambuti, 23. Tim
Adams, 24. Steve Buckwalter, 25. Curtis Friesen, 26. Matt Janisch.

CICCONI, DARRAH AND IVY ARE WINNERS IN OPENING NIGHT ACTION AT ATLANTIC CITY
BOARDWALK HALL INDOOR RACES
ATLANTIC CITY, NJ January 21, 2006 . . . Lou Cicconi Jr. of Aston, Pa., Cody
Darrah of York, Pa., and John Ivy of Bellevue, Ohio, emerged victorious in
Friday night's Three Quarter Midget/600cc Micro-Sprint 'Roaring 20s' races as
the Atlantic City Indoor Race Weekend kicked off at Boardwalk Hall.
Cicconi, a veteran competitor who follows the ISMA Supermodified tour, authored
the drive of the show in the first preliminary. After steering Ken Hentrich's
brightly-colored TQ Midget to the fastest lap in the 92-car time-trial session,
he charged from the seventh spot to win the 20-lapper.
The most memorable move of Cicconi's march forward came when he vaulted from
fourth place to first in just over one lap. He completed his assault by running
the outside line by short-track legend Billy Pauch of Frenchtown, N.J., to
assume command for good just after the race's halfway mark.
Pauch settled for second place behind the wheel of TQ ace Don Adams's car.
NASCAR Modified standout Ted Christopher of Plainville, Conn., finished third,
and Tim Adams of Hamilton, N.J., and Joey Payne of Fairlawn, N.J., completed the
top-five finishers who transferred directly to Saturday night's 40-lap
'Gambler's Classic' A-Main.
Considering his track record in the unique event over the past four years,
Cicconi's triumph in the first 20-lapper was no surprise. But the evening's
other stars shocked the gathering.
Darrah, a 16-year-old Micro-Sprint racer making his first career start in an
indoor event run on a concrete surface, led from flag-to-flag in the second
main. He held off the advances of Manheim, Pa.'s Heath Hehnly to score the most
high-profile checkered flag of his young career.
Bobby Watkins Jr. of Levittown, Pa., finished third, followed by Curtis Friesen
of St. Catharines, Ont., and ARDC Midget standout Steve Buckwalter of
Royersford, Pa.
Darrah's uncle, dirt Late Model star Rick Eckert of York, Pa., missed a transfer
spot to Saturday's A-Main by one position, finishing sixth in one of Darrah's
team cars.
Ivy, an accomplished 410 Sprint Car driver at tracks in central Ohio, paced the
field from wire-to-wire to bag the third qualifier. He joined Darrah as a
'Roaring 20s' winner driving a 600cc Micro-Sprint.
ISMA Supermodified regular Mike Lichty of Innerkip, Ont., challenged Ivy several
times but settled for second place. Mike Dicely of Lewisberry, Pa., finished
third, followed by B.J. McDonald of Dublin, Pa., and Jack Spence of Bear, Del.
The winners of the 'Roaring 20s' pocketed $300 apiece.
Kris Savoie of Fultonville, N.Y., and Bill Weaver of Bangor, Pa., split the twin
15-lap Slingshot by Tobias division heat races.
Andrew Hutchinson of Alexandria Bay, N.Y., captured the evening's 20-lap Champ
Kart feature.
Atlantic City Indoor Race action continues on Saturday at Boardwalk Hall with a
jam-packed schedule.
Racing begins at 12:30 p.m. with a matinee program featuring the 'Small Car
Nationals.' Included are events for the Champ Karts, Young Lion Slingshots,
Sportsman Micro-Stocks and Outlaw Micro-Stocks.
Following a FanFest on the racetrack at 6 p.m., the evening portion of the card
commences at 7 p.m. The TQ Midgets/600cc Micros will compete in C-, B- and
A-Mains, but also part of the show is a 20-lap Slingshot feature and a Celebrity
Slingshot Challenge event featuring asphalt Modified starts Tony Hirschman, Matt
Hirschman and Jimmy Blewett racing against dirt Modified supernovas Frank Cozze,
Doug Hoffman and Alan Johnson.

MORE THAN $3,500 IN SPECIAL AWARDS POSTED FOR INDOOR THREE QUARTER MIDGET/600CC
MICRO SPRINT “GAMBLER’S CLASSIC IN AC
ATLANTIC CITY, NJ JANUARY 5, 2006 - Over $3,500 in special awards will be up for
grabs to Three Quarter Midget and 600cc Micro-Sprint drivers competing in the
Atlantic City Indoor race Jan. 20-21 at Boardwalk Hall.
Several of the awards will serve to honor former drivers and an official of past
A.C. Indoor Races, which were promoted by the late George Stockinger at the then
Convention Hall from 1965-1981 before resuming in 2003.
The most prolific supporter of the event will once again be Dr. William Lowe of
Drs. Beim & Lowe Comprehensive Obstetrics and Gynecology. He has posted over
$1,000 in cash that will be distributed among six separate awards.
Lowe’s biggest prize is a $500 'Gambler's Consolation' bounty he'll present to
the first non-winner of Saturday's 40-lap 'Gambler's Classic' feature who paid
the pre-race “Gambler's Fee” of $100.
Lowe will also present the Nick Fornoro Sr. Green Flag Award, which honors the
famed former starter of A.C. Indoor Race events. The leader of lap one in the
40-lap feature will pick up $50.
Other awards from Lowe include:
* A $200 second-fast time award in Friday's qualifying session to honor the late
Tony Romit, an outstanding TQ and midget racer who was a multiple winner of A.C.
Indoor Race events during the early '70s.
* The 'How sLowe Can You Go Award' of $50 to the slowest qualifier in time
trials.
* A $50 stipend to the Hard Luck Driver in Friday's 'Roaring 20s' preliminaries.
* A bonus of $200 to the first TQ Midget across the finish line in Saturday's
'Gambler's Classic' feature.
Ray McCabe, a well known auto racing official and supporter, meanwhile, is
organizing a pair of special awards that will memorialize former A.C. Indoor
Race winners who passed away over the past two years.
The Larry Michaels Award, honoring the late driver who died of natural causes in
2005, will be presented to Friday's fastest qualifier in time trials. It will be
worth a cool $393.93.
The Hard Charger in Saturday's 'Gambler's Classic' feature will receive $555.55
in memory of Doug Craig. The late driver, a many time champion of the American
Three Quarter Midget Racing Association, lost his life in a Florida plane crash
two years ago.
Tommy Gale Haulmark Trailers in Elizabeth, Pa., will once again have a major
presence at the A.C. Indoor Race, putting up $300 to the winner in each of
Friday's Triple 20-lap preliminaries.
Spitfire by Hyper Chassis, the hot new TQ Midget being built by longtime
Micro-Sprint constructor Mike Dicely, has put up cash for the winners of
Saturday's C-Main ($50) and B-Main ($100) as well as a $50 consolation prize to
the first non-qualifier for the 'Gambler's Classic' feature.
