Anthony Linkenhoker Finds the Missing Link

In the seasons Anthony Linkenhoker has raced with the Virginia Sprint Series he has had the good fortune to win a feature event per season for the past few years and have many good runs as well but this year he was able to find the missing link as he went on the capture his second victory of the year Saturday night at County Line Raceway. Seventeen cars took to the track for heats with Brian Lawson and Billy Norfleet topping those before it was off to the feature. Paul White and Brian Lawson took the green on the feature with Lawson out front first with Linkenhoker and Tom Humphries in tow. The track was very fast and Lawson was making good time and looked to be unbeatable as the laps were clicking by on the fast short track but with ten to go Linkenhoker was closing in and with six to go Lawson went too high to lap a car and Linkenhoker stayed low and swept by to the top spot. Linkenhoker was very smooth which was helping him stay in front as Humphries was trying hard to get by using all of the track and more but it was not to be as Linkenhoker flashed by the waving checkered flag for the win. Following Anthony Linkenhoker was Tom Humphries, Billy Norfleet, Jerald Harris, Eric Keck, Brian Lawson, Tony Harris, Pete Kingrea, Dick Talley, French Grimes, Donnie Rodeffer, Glenn Worrell, Bill Rice, Paul White, Charlie Ware, Chris Ware and Scott Vasbinder.
This was the 2006 season ending event we want to thank all the people that have supported us over the years as we look forward to the 2007 season.

Rattlesnake Racings Bill Rice Strikes at the Bridge

After heavy rain came on Saturday night and washed out the nights feature events Sunday afternoon racing was on the card and it proved to be good rattlesnake weather as on a warm sunny afternoon Bill Rice speed to victory for his first win of the year.

Saturday nights heat races were fast ones as the surface was tacky and fast with Glenn Worrell and Pete Kingrea taking those wins but they would have to wait to see how they would show in the feature until the next afternoon.

At the feature start Paul White was out front for lap one until Pete Kingrea went by and brought Bill Rice with him and for the next five laps they were racing hard with Kingrea on the bottom and Rice up top until lap six when Rice went by leaving Kingrea to deal with Tony Harris who was close behind. Rice continued to show the way but now Harris was chasing him down a little every lap until a yellow for a spin tightened the field for a final run to the flag and Harris got a great start and was under Rice but Rice was fast up top and stayed strong till the checkered flag waved. Following Bill Rice at the line was Tony Harris, Billy Norfleet, Eric Keck, Jerald Harris, Glenn Worrell, Pete Kingrea, Anthony Linkenhoker, Dick Talley, Mike Tolley, Charlie Ware, Chris Ware, Scott Vasbinder, Paul White and French Grimes.

Next week the VSS returns to Winchester Speedway in Winchester, Virginia on Saturday night August 26th.

Brian Lawson Tops in County Line Thriller

Brian Lawson won his first feature in a what you can only call a thrilling race at County Line raceway Saturday night as the top six cars were all with in striking distance at the finish. Anthony Linkenhoker and Brian Lawson started the nights event with heat race wins on the tight and fast short track.

Eighteen cars lined up for the feature with Paul White and Scott Vasbinder pacing the field with White jumping out first but Lawson shot by on the back strait bring Billy Norfleet along, they tried to run away but the field would not have it as Pete Kingrea, Bill Rice, Tony Harris and Eric Keck gave chase right away.

Lawson was quick and he was catching the rear of the field and this was really tightening up things even more as the top ten were getting closer every lap. First Kingrea made his way to second with Harris and Rice right there and they took turns trying to get by Lawson and at the same time they were lapping cars putting on quite a display this had the crowd on its feet but when they came by to take the white flag with Lawson going low Kingrea high Harris and Keck also going low to try to take a run at Lawson had the fans cheering, Lawson was really trying stay smooth and steady under such pressure and it worked as he flashed under the checkers for his first win in such a thrilling race.

This race win also marked Lawson as the twelfth different winner so far in this season of thirteen features events run in the VSS. To recap the finish Brian Lawson, Tony Harris, Eric Keck, Pete Kingrea, Bill Rice, Billy Norfleet, Jerald Harris, Charlie Ware, Anthony Linkenhoker, Dick Talley, Mike Tolley, Glenn Worrell, Bruce Strickler, Paul White, Donnie Rodeffer, Chris Ware, Scott Vasbinder and French Grimes.

The Virginia Sprint Series takes off a week before visiting Fayetteville Motor Speedway in Fayetteville N.C. on Saturday August 12th 2006

                                                                         French First in Photo Finish

French Grimes won his second feature of the year Saturday night after starting last in twenty two car field and beating Jerald Harris to the finish line by two feet on a last corner last lap pass, it was also his second win in a row at Eastside Speedway.

Heats kicked off the night with Glenn Worrell and Brian Lawson topping those then the feature was ready to line up with Chris Ware and Paul White on the front with Ware off first and Brian Lawson already putting on pressure and sweeping by to lead with Bruce Strickler in tow but Jerald Harris and French Grimes were on the move and at half way the top two were not alone with first Harris going to the top spot and not long after Grimes moved to second.

The last ten laps looked like a trophy dash with traffic in the middle as Harris was riding high to get by lapped cars and Grimes was going low . They stayed tightly bunched as the white flag waved but Harris was still high trying to pass a bunch of lappers with Grimes smooth and fast on the bottom and that turned out to be the right place as he swept by for the win at the line by two feet as the checkered flag waved. following French Grimes were Jerald Harris, Brian Lawson, Bruce Strickler, Tony Harris, Eric Keck, Tom Humphries, Pete Kingrea, Charlie Ware, Casey Cook, Anthony Linkenhoker, Bill Rice, Mike Tolley, Donnie Rodeffer, Glenn Worrell, Kevin Zirk, Dick Talley, Keith Laird, Billy Norfleet, Scott Vasbinder, Chris Ware and Paul White.

Paul White and Brian Lawson paced to the green with Lawson jumping out first but Tony Harris was there fast and Jerald was not far behind but Lawson looked good until lap eigtht when he got loose and Tony pounced then tried to run away from Jerald who was now second, the laps were clicking off as Jerald was closing in followed now by Glenn Worrell and French Grimes but as the feature went non stop it was not to be as Tony Harris topped the field followed by brother Jerald Harris, Glenn Worrell, French Grimes, Brian Lawson, Eric Keck, Anthony Linkenhoker, Bill Rice, Casey Cook, Pete Kingrea, Dick Talley, Mike Tolley, Keith Laird, Eddie McClellend, Donnie Rodeffer, Paul White, Chris Ware, Scott Vasbinder, Danny Miller and Kevin Zirk.

Harris Brothers Double Feature Act 2

The Harris boys continued their starting roles Saturday night at Winchester Speedway as they swept the action much as they had the night before to cap off the two night event. Twenty three cars took in the action as heat races were a repeat of Fridays action with Jerald Harris taking the first and Tony Harris in heat two before heading off for the feature. Brian Lawson again took off at the green with Jerald Harris and Pete Kingrea right behind but it was not long before Jerald was under Lawson and in the lead with Kingrea working to second and trying to run down Jerald with Eric Keck in third, Harris was holding his own riding the top as the thirty laps were clicking by but Kingrea could not close the gap until a yellow for a stopped car closed the field. Jerald went back on the top as the green waved but Tony Harris was now all over Kingrea and he got by with four to go and was after Jerald but as the Checkered flag waved Jerald Harris was there first with Tony Harris, French Grimes, Tom Humphries, Pete Kingrea, Charlie Ware, Brian Lawson, Casey Cook, Glenn Worrell, Billy Norfleet, Kevin Zirk, Eric Keck, Anthony Linkenhoker, Mike Tolley, Bill Rice, Dick Talley, Donnie Rodeffer, Chris Ware, Paul White, Danny Miller, Keith Laird and Matty Feldman.

Paul White and Rodeffer took the green but Rodeffer showed that the heat was a good warm up as he jumped out front and the chase was on with Charlie Ware, Pete Kingrea and Bill Rice all in a bunch as they were three wide most of the race but Donnie Rodeffer showed his line was the best as he won by eight feet over Bill Rice, Pete Kingrea, Casey Cook, Charlie Ware, Anthony Linkenhoker, Glenn Worrell, Mike Tolley, Dick Talley, Tony Harris, Billy Norfleet, Jerald Harris, French Grimes, Paul White, Scott Vasbinder, Danny Miller, Ryan Demming, Matty Feldman and Jack Rice. Mike Tolley in his third season with Virginia Sprint Series was able to get the lead with ten laps to go and hold on for his first win ever Saturday at Natural Bridge Speedway. Twenty two cars took to the track for heats with Paul White taking heat one and Brian Lawson taking the second before it was off to feature time.

Paul White and Brian Lawson lead the field to green with Lawson going to the front first going fast on the bottom with Mike Tolley getting to second right away and shadowing Lawson everywhere he went. Lawson looked strong until about lap twelve when Lawson started looking a little loose and Tolley stayed right on him until he Lawson slipped enough that Tolley got by on lap fifteen.

Now Eric Keck was coming hard with Tom Humphries and French Grimes all right there as well. Things were really tight up front but Tolley stayed in the low groove that he liked so much with Keck and the front bunch all under a blanket right there as well but try as they might at the stripe Mike Tolley flashed by first.

Following Mike Tolley it was Eric Keck, Tom Humphries, French Grimes, Tony Harris, Glennn Worrell, Brian Lawson, Anthony Linkenhoker, Billy Norfleet, Bruce Strickler, Casey Cook, Dick Talley, Donnie Rodeffer, Kevin Zirk, Jack Rice, Keith Laird, Paul White, Scott Vasbinder, Chris Ware, Pete Kingrea, Jerald Harris and Charlie Ware.

                                                                      Casey Cook Captures

Casey Cook took the lead with a few laps to go after a race long battle with Bill Rice. Heat races kicked off the night with Jerald Harris and Tom Humphries besting the eighteen cars on hand. Dick Talley and Paul White lead the feature field which was much delayed, at the green Talley waisted no time jumping in to the lead followed by Brian Lawson close behind . The laps were clicking off quickly on the short track but Talley encounted difficulty with traffic letting Bill Rice and Casey Cook close in and on lap fifteen Bill Rice swept by in to the top spot bring Cook with him but just as he broke free the only yellow of the night for the VSS sprinters waved for debris that slowed the field for two laps but then it was back to green with Rice and Cook hard at it as they were lapping back markers with Rice doing his normal high line and Cook chasing on the bottom until lap twenty when Rice hesitated and Cook swept low and in to the lead and all Rice could do was keep the pressure on until the checkered flag waved on a hard fought but quickly run feature. To recap it was Casey Cook, Bill Rice, Jerald Harris, Pete Kingrea, Charlie Ware, Tom Humphries, Dick Talley, French Grimes, Brian Lawson, Tony Harris, Mike Tolley, Billy Norfleet, Glenn Worrell, Anthony Linkenhoker, Ivan Shaver, Donnie Rodeffer, Paul White and Danny Martin.

Tom Humphries took the lead with ten laps to go to take his first win of the season and his first win at Natural Bridge Speedway a track that he has raced at in other classes before becoming a full time VSS racer.

Twenty one cars were on hand as Jerald Harris and Charlie Ware started the night off with heat wins. Billy Norfleet and Brian Lawson paced the field with Lawson continuing his great start to only his second season racing by jumping in to the lead with Norfleet in second but the pack stayed tight and there was no way they were getting away from the closing Tom Humphries with Anthony Linkenhoker working his way up as well.

On lap fifteen a car stopped to bring out a caution and that was all they needed as on the wave of the green Humphries got by Lawson and was headed home with Linkenhoker getting second a few laps later and trying to run down Humphries but he would not get there as Tom Humphries cruised under the checkered flag followed by Anthony Linkenhoker, Billy Norfleet, Casey Cook, Mike Tolley, Eric Keck, Jerald Harris, Tony Harris, French Grimes, Pete Kingrea, Glenn Worrell, Brian Lawson, Charlie Ware, Keith Laird, Paul White, Bill Rice, Scott Vasbinder, Donnie Rodeffer, Dick Talley, Chris Ware and Bruce Strickler.
