Michael Despain – NARA Battle of the Bluegrass PR
(dirttrackracing@hotmail.com)
Jimmy Payne Brings the Pain in "NARA BoB Mod Squad" Series Finale at Lake
Cumberland
Burnside, KY (October 7) The driver that has probably been the most consistent
finisher with the NARA Battle of the Bluegrass Modified Series in 2006 would
finally visit victory lane as Jimmy Payne of Glasgow, KY would score the $2,000
to win feature event for the NARA Battle of the Bluegrass Modified Series on
Saturday night at Lake Cumberland Speedway, while Joey Kramer would hold on to
take his second consecutive NARA Battle of the Bluegrass Open Wheel Modified
Series Championship.
The start of the 25 lap/$2,000 to win O'Reilly Auto Parts A-Main would see Jay
Mobley and Joey Kramer bring the field to the green flag, but disaster would
strike for Championship contender Kramer as he would make contact with the
outside retaining wall entering turn one and damage the right front suspension
on his entry and his night would be finished, leaving him to watch the battle
for the 2006 Championship.
The second attempted start would be a go and Jimmy Payne would jump to the lead,
with Victor Lee, Jay Mobley, Kelly Warren, and Brandon Green in tow. Warren and
Green would race side by side for fourth as the caution would appear on lap 3
for a spin by Scotty Kincaid in turn 4. The double-file restart would see Warren
pressure Mobley for third, while Lee dogged Payne for the lead as the race
entered lap 5. As Payne and Lee would slowly pull away, Mobley and Warren were
locked in a side by side battle for third on lap 7, with Shon Flanery side by
side with Green for fifth on the same circuit. Mobley would have third on Warren
at the line on lap 8, as the pair continued to race side by side for the
position, while Payne was scooting away slightly from Lee at the point.
The second caution of the event flew on lap 10 as Skylar Marlar would slow on
the backchute and roll pitside. The restart would see Green benefit from the
double-file restart as Green would drive past Warren and Mobley and grab the
third position, with Warren fourth and Mobley fifth. Payne and Lee would battle
momentarily for the lead, with Payne taking control on lap 13. Laps 14 through
18 would see Warren and Mobley continue to battle for the fourth spot, with
Mobley taking the spot on lap 16, but Warren would have it back one trip later.
On lap 19, Warren would pull away from Mobley for the position, while leader
Payne and second place were about to roll up on slower traffic.
The final caution would fly on lap 22 as Brandon Clark would loop his machine in
turn one, setting a dash to the finish. The final restart would see Lee right on
Payne's rear bumper, while Green, Warren, and Mobley went at it for third.
Mobley would get Warren for fourth as the front five saw the white flag and
dived off into turn one. Payne would have Lee on him, but Payne would beat Lee
to the checkered flag by about two car lengths to get the win in his Barren
River Pest Control sponsored #6 Lightning Chassis, Frank Payne Race Engines
powered entry. Lee would grab second, while Mobley would slip past Green on the
final lap for third, with Warren taking fifth. The remainder of the top ten was
Cale Coffey, Dustin Linville, Shon Flanery, Joe Turner, and Don Adams.
Thirty-three entries would see Don Adams nab the Racing Optics Fast Qualifier
award after turning a lap of 14.254 seconds in time trials.
Four qualifying heat race events would be contested, with those wins going to
Mobley, Lee, Kramer, and Payne. Adams and Bill Arnold would score B-Main
victories. Series provisionals would go to Troy Teegarden and Scotty Kincaid,
while Tommy Gregory would be the track provisional.

Kramer Captures 2nd Annual NARA Battle of the Bluegrass Modified Series Pepsi
Showdown at Ponderosa Speedway
Junction City, KY (October 6) Current NARA Battle of the Bluegrass Open Wheel
Modified Series Points Leader and defending Champion Joey Kramer of Hanover, IN
would claim the $1,500 payday in the 2nd annual Pepsi Showdown at the Ponderosa
Speedway on Friday night marking his second consecutive win in the annual event
The NARA Battle of the Bluegrass Modified Series O'Reilly A-Main would see
Victor Lee take the lead at the drop of the green flag, with Jimmy Payne, Joey
Kramer, Russ Gabbert, and Brandon Green giving chase. Kramer would challenge
Payne for second on laps 2 through 5, but could not make the pass, as Lee opened
a bit of a lead and would start lapping slower cars on lap 6. On that same
circuit, Kramer would slip past Payne for the runner-up slot and would start to
slowly reel in race leader Lee.
Lap 10 would see the first caution of the race as Dustin Linville and Jay Mobley
would spin in turn two. The lap 10 restart would see the demise of race leader
Lee as he slowed with mechanical problems on his mount and would pull pitside
for the evening. This turn of events would place Kramer on the point, with
Payne, Gabbert, Green, and Miguel Coffey making up the rest of the top five.
The front five would remain the same until the caution flag again slowed the
action on lap 16 as Jay Mobley, Zane Morgan, and J.T. Ayers would tangle in turn
two. The restart would see Kramer and Payne go at it for the top spot, with this
pair putting a bit of distance between themselves and third place running
Gabbert.
The caution again waved on lap 21 to slow the pace as J.T. Ayers would loop his
entry in turn four. The restart would only get one more circuit scored as the
caution would appear for debris. During the caution period, second place Payne
would pull to the hot pit area with a flat left tire, get fresh rubber, and
return to action. This restart would be voided when Scotty Kincaid would spin in
turn four before a complete lap was scored.
On the final restart of the race Kramer would roll away from the pack and claim
the victory in the D. Kramer owned Wild's Restoration Service/Hill's Historic
Painting/Super Shine Auto Detail and Window Tint/PBM Performance Products/Bilstein
Shocks sponsored #77 Lightning Chassis, Kramer Race Engine powered entry.
Gabbert would take second, while Brandon Green slowed on the final lap with
mechanical issues, allowing Coffey, 16th starter Don Adams, and 17th starter
Kelly Warren to race past to complete the top five. Dustin Linville would
recover from his lap 9 spin to head up the second five at the finish, trailed by
Green, Shon Flanery, 19th starter Dennis Barton, and Jay Mobley.
Twenty-seven entries would see Kramer claim the Racing Optics Fast Time award
with a 14.539 second qualifying lap.
Heat wins were taken by Gabbert, Victor Lee, and Payne, while Don Adams won the
B-Main. Series provisional starting spots went to Dennis Barton and Larry
Moreland, while track provisional starters were Shane McKinney and Ricky Lane.

Dustin Jarrett -- O'Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass PR
(djarrett@battleofthebluegrass.com)
Points Tight as O'Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series Heads Into
Homestretch
LEXINGTON, KY -- The nation's most competitive regional racing series has just
seven races remaining on its schedule and the points race continues to be a hot
topic of discussion. This Friday, August 25th, the O'Reilly NARA Battle of the
Bluegrass DirtCar Series presented by Arizona Sport Shirts makes stop #18 on the
2006 campaign at the Ponderosa Speedway in Junction City, KY for the $5000 to
win John Bradshaw Memorial.
Defending Series Co-Champion Mike Jewell of Scottsburg, IN currently leads the
points chase by just 135 points over 2005 Series Rookie of the Year Chris Combs.
Both drivers have been extremely consistent over the course of the season to
guide them into the Series Championship spotlight. Jewell, the all-time Series
wins leader, has two visits to victory lane in 2006, one each at 201 Speedway
and Richmond Raceway. Combs, a native of Isom, KY, cashed his first ever
O’Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass win on July 1st at 201 Speedway.
Behind Jewell and Combs in the Series standings, Justin Rattliff sits third and
leads the Cruise with the Champions Rookie of the Year battle. Rattliff finished
second in the NARA Battle of the Bluegrass Open Wheel Modified points last
season and is currently in his first full season behind the wheel of a Late
Model. The Campbellsville, KY youngster is right in the thick of the
championship hunt, sitting a mere 90 points behind Combs in third.
Another Campbellsville, KY hotshoe, Tim Tungate, holds down the fourth spot in
the points standings. Although the defending Series co-champion has yet to win
an O'Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series event in 2006, Tungate
and fifth-place Bryan Barber both remain within striking distance of first
place. Barber, of Buffalo, KY, has dealt with Lady Luck's bad hands throughout
the season, but continues to cling to his fifth position in the standings.
Behind the top five, a strong contingent of drivers follow with 2004 Series
Champion Aaron Hatton leading the charge in sixth. Bobby Wolter Jr. holds down
the seventh spot with Rookie of the Year contender Dan Deaton in eighth. Brad
Neat, winner of the June Jam at Bluegrass Speedway, is ninth in the championship
standings while Johnny Wheeler, the winner of Lake Cumberland's Coca-Cola 40,
rounds out the top ten.
This Friday, August 25th, the nation's most competitive regional racing series
heads into Ponderosa Speedway for the $5000 to win John Bradshaw Memorial. With
the 6th Annual Bluegrass Classic at Bluegrass Speedway the following night, the
possibility is there for several of the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series
regulars to make the trip to Junction City, KY on Friday night.

The O'Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series rolled into the Lake

finishes in BoB history, David Webb grabbed the win. After going to the tail on
lap 18, Webb stormed back to the front on the multi-groove surface and, with
five laps to go, found himself in the 8th position. After an accident claimed
the top three cars with a few laps remaining, Webb capitalized on a lap 37
Delaware double-file restart to charge into the lead and fend off Victor Lee to
capture his first ever O'Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series win
with Lee second and 20th-starting Johnny Wheeler third.
Lake Cumberland Speedway is a 3/8-mile clay oval located just south of Burnside,
KY on the east side of US 27 on Racetrack Road (1/2-mile south of Burnside
Island State Park). Since the start of the racing season, Lake Cumberland has
provided two and three-wide racing in all divisions and, when the O'Reilly NARA

LEXINGTON, KY -- The same week that America celebrates its 230th birthday, the

competitive regional racing series is quickly closing in on race #100.

2003 Series Champion Mike Marlar of Winfield, TN is the defending champion of
this event.

www.bluegrass-speedway.com, or the series' website at
www.battleofthebluegrass.com
In just five seasons, the O'Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series
has catapulted into the national spotlight. Thanks in part to a dynamic 2005
season which saw 18 different winners in 20 races, the series has been dubbed
the "nation's most competitive regional racing series".
On May 3, 2002, history would be made as the first ever STARS Battle of the
Bluegrass DirtCar Series event was held at McCoy's Motor Speedway (now known as
Barren County Speedway) in Glasgow, KY. Later that night, Harrodsburg, KY
veteran Timmy Yeager would have the distinction of being the first ever Battle
of the Bluegrass feature winner. Oddly enough, Yeager would also win the final
race of the inaugural Battle of the Bluegrass season, his only wins with the
series to date. By a mere 90 points, Eddie Carrier Jr., then calling Leburn, KY
home, would be crowned the first ever Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series
Champion over Yeager, Jesse Lay, Johnny Wheeler, and Richard Smith.
With a 25 events scheduled in Kentucky and Tennessee, the STARS Battle of the
Bluegrass Series presented by Arizona Sport Shirts roared into 2003 with a
strong contingent of both drivers and fans following the series. Behind a record
five wins, Winfield, TN native Mike Marlar would be the 2003 Series Champion as
Timmy Yeager once again earned the bridesmaid honors. Behind Marlar and Yeager,
Aaron Hatton, Jesse Lay, and Scott James would complete the top five in the
series points standings.
The 2004 racing season saw even more drivers following the series. Now flying
under the banner of the North American Racing Association (NARA), the NARA
Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series continued with the same enthusiasm that
swept through the Bluegrass State the year before. In an exciting points battle
that lead right down to the final race of the year, Mt. Sterling, KY's Aaron
Hatton would nip Eubank, KY's Tyrel Todd by just 55 points to take home the
Series Championship with Johnny Wheeler, Doug Smith, and Victor Lee following.
Milestone race #50 was help at the Richmond Raceway in Richmond, KY on May 8,
2004 with Greg Johnson picking up the win. Another drastic change that occurred
in 2004 was the signing of O'Reilly Auto Parts as the title sponsor of popular
touring series.
Although the O'Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series had always
been popular in and around Kentucky, it was the 2005 season that catapulted the
series into the national spotlight. The series started with an unprecedented 10
different winners in the first 10 races, only to have the streak stopped when
Dunnville, KY native Whitney McQueary picked up his second win of 2005 at 201
Speedway. From there, another streak would start and, at one time, had reached
an astounding 15 different winners in 16 races when inaugural series champion
Eddie Carrier Jr. notched his second win of the year. With no other repeat
winners on the agenda, the O'Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series
finished the 2005 season with an amazing 18 different winners in 20 races.
Not only was the high level of competition displayed on the track, but it was
reflected in the season-long points standings as well. Heading into the season
finale at Florence Speedway, Tim Tungate held a slim 75-point advantage over
Whitney McQueary and a narrow 80-point lead over Mike Jewell. In one of the most
memorable races in series history, Jewell overcame the 80-point deficit and
finished in a tie with Tungate for the Series Championship. Since each driver
posted one win on the series, the tiebreaker was no good, thus series officials
deemed Tungate and Jewell as Co-Champions for the 2005 racing season. McQueary
finished just 60 points back in third Aaron Hatton and Chris Combs completing
the top five.
Scottsburg, IN's Mike Jewell leads the all-time O'Reilly NARA Battle of the
Bluegrass DirtCar Series winners list with 9 wins. Past Series Champions Eddie
Carrier Jr. and Mike Marlar have 7 wins each while Greg Johnson, Darrell
Lanigan, and Johnny Wheeler each have 6 series wins. Aaron Hatton, Scott James,
Don O'Neal, and Tyrel Todd all have 4 wins while Jackie Boggs, Mike Hawley, and
Jesse Lay have each netted 3 victories.

Kelly Warren Wins a Thriller at Lake Cumberland
Burnside, KY – The NARA Battle of the Bluegrass Open Wheel Modified Series
traveled to the Lake Cumberland Speedway in Burnside, KY Saturday night for its
sixth race of 2006, marking the halfway point of the season. Kelly Warren scored
his first win of the year in dramatic fashion, passing Victor Lee for the lead
just 6 laps from the finish.
The 21 car field for the 30 lap, $1,500 to win A-Main was led to the green flag
by front row starters Cale Coffey and Jay Mobley. Coffey took the early
advantage up front as the field battled two and three-wide behind him. Victor
Lee of Stanford, KY wasted no time charging to the front. By the end of the
first lap, “The Lincoln Leadfoot” had advanced to 2nd from his 4th place
starting position, and began to apply pressure to Coffey. The lead duo raced
side by side for 3 laps until Lee powered by on the high side. Behind the
leaders, Don Adams, Warren, Jimmy Payne, and Jay Mobley made it a 4-way battle
for 3rd, often racing three-wide for position.
After several laps of hard racing, Adams would separate himself from that and
begin to work on Coffey for 2nd. As that duo battled for position, Lee began to
stretch his lead. That didn’t last long, however, as a lap 15 caution bunched
the field back up. Adams would choose the low side on the Delaware double-file
restart, with Coffey, Warren and Tommy Bailey rounding out the top 5. Warren
wasted no time dropping the hammer on the restart, quickly diving to the inside
to race three-wide with Adams and Coffey for 2nd. After an intense few laps that
saw the entire top 5 in close-quarters racing, Warren was able to complete the
pass for 2nd and began work on Lee for the lead.
The crowd rose to its feet as Warren got alongside Lee for the lead on lap 19.
The pair continued to race side by side, with Warren maintaining a line on the
inside hub while Lee rode the cushion on the high side. Just when it appeared
that Warren might wrestle the lead away, near disaster struck. While going for
the lead, Warren’s #0 made contact with the inside wall on lap 21, throwing
sparks through the air. That bobble not only allowed Lee to regain an advantage
up front, it gave Don Adams the opportunity he needed to sneak by for 2nd.
Warren would not be denied, however. It took the Columbia, KY driver just one
lap to regain 2nd from Adams, and one more lap to resume his battle with Lee for
the race lead. Warren would eventually win out, pressing ahead of Lee on lap 24.
With a clear track out front, the leader quickly began to distance himself from
the rest of the field. As the laps wound down, nobody was close enough to
challenge Warren for the win. The $1,500 payday was Warren’s first Battle of the
Bluegrass Open Wheel Modified win of 2006. Warren’s #0 Bandit Chassis is powered
by a Dale Meers Racing Engine and sponsored by Commonwealth Cancer Center/J & K
Autocare/B & B Motorsports/PBM Performance Parts/Dale Meers Racing Engines. 24
cars were on hand from 6 different states.
Victor Lee set fast time with a lap of 15.303 seconds. Heat wins went to Coffey,
Warren, and Mobley, while the B-Main was won by Leonard Pierce. The series’ next
$1,500 to win event will take place at the 201 Speedway in Sitka, KY on August
5.

O'Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series Revises Schedule, Adds Lake
Cumberland
LEXINGTON, KY -- O'Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series officials
have announced a change in the upcoming series schedule. The July 21st and 22nd
dates originally slated to find the nation's most competitive regional racing
series at the Scenic Raceway in Oneida, TN will see those dates moved just north
to Burnside, KY's Lake Cumberland Speedway. In one of the most exciting races of
the season to date, Johnny Wheeler fended off the challenges of Chris Combs to
pick up a hard-earned win in the Series last visit to Lake Cumberland on May
20th.
Friday, July 21st and Saturday, July 22nd, Lake Cumberland Speedway will play
host to Kentucky's premier Late Model series when the O'Reilly NARA Battle of
the Bluegrass DirtCar Series presented by Arizona Sport Shirts visits town for
two complete shows. Each night will feature a complete racing program with
Racing Optics Time Trials, Mason Racin'/Arizona Sport Shirts Heats, Design 500
B-Mains, and a 40-lap A-Main, each paying $3000 to win. The purse for each event
will be as follows:
PURSE: 1)$3000, 2)1500, 3)1000, 4)800, 5)750, 6)700, 7)650, 8)600, 9)550,

Lake Cumberland Speedway is a 3/8-mile clay oval located just south of Burnside,
KY on the east side of US 27 on Racetrack Road (1/2-mile south of Burnside
Island State Park). Since the start of the racing season, Lake Cumberland has
received nothing but praise for the make-over the track surface received during
the off-season, and two and three-wide racing has been the norm this season. For
more information on Lake Cumberland, please visit their website at

Dustin Jarrett – O’Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass PR
(djarrett@battleofthebluegrass.com)
Chris Combs Cashes First Career O’Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass Win at 201
Speedway
SITKA, KY – After being the “best man” three times this season, Chris Combs
finally found out what it’s like to be the groom as the Isom, KY hotshoe waltzed
down the aisle and found victory lane for the first time with the O’Reilly NARA
Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series. Combs passed Mike Jewell on a restart
with six laps remaining to nab the popular victory in front of a capacity crowd
at 201 Speedway.
Bobby Wolter Jr. and Mike Jewell set the pace for the 40-lap A-Main with Jewell
taking the early advantage. Wolter had a rear view mirror full of Chuckie May,
Freddy Smith, and Chris Combs, who were engaged in a fierce battle for third.
Anthony Adams and Justin Rattliff soon joined the battle making for an
entertaining show among the top ten.
After hounding Jewell for several laps, Wolter finally darted into the lead on
lap 7 as the leaders were picking their way through the back of the field.
Wolter’s pass would be vetoed, however, as a caution flag negated the lead
change and put Jewell back on he point. Another lap 7 yellow kept the field
tight with Jewell leading Wolter, May, Smith, and Adams on the restart.
When racing resumed, Wolter once again shot to he outside, engaging in a
side-by-side battle with race leader Jewell. The two danced door-to-door for
several laps before Wolter finally cleared Jewell on lap 11 on assumed sole
possession of the lead with May now knocking on the backdoor of Jewell. Behind
that lead trio, the intense racing continued as fourth-running Smith had his
hands full with Combs, Rattliff, and Aaron Hatton.
After a pair of lap 12 cautions slowed the pace, Jewell pulled alongside Wolter
to rekindle the highly-entertaining race for the lead. An outstanding duel saw
the two run side-by-side with Jewell inching back ahead of Wolter to reassume
command of the field on lap 15. As Wolter slowly started to fade, May and
Rattliff closed and engaged in their own battle for second. On back through the
field, Combs and Adams sliced and diced for fifth while David Powers and Brandon
Kinzer swapped the seventh position.
The complexion of the race changed drastically on lap 24 when Wolter, May, and
Rattliff all came together in turn two. All three cars gnashed to a halt with
May and Rattliff falling to back of the field and Wolter retiring from the
event.
The restart now saw Jewell leading Combs, Tim Tungate, Adams, and 15th-starting
John Mason. Jewell enjoyed his biggest lead of the race – a mere five cars
lengths – while Combs had his hands full with Tungate, Adams, Mason, and Kinzer.
With less than ten laps to go, Adams worked his way into third and set his
sights on Combs in a bid for second. The duo raced side-by-side until lap 34
when Adams slid to a stop in turn 4.
The yellow set up a six-lap dash to the finish with Jewell now leading Combs,
Tungate, Mason, and Kinzer. On the restart, Combs brought the crowd to their
feet as he shot to the outside of Jewell in a bid for the win. They ran
doorhandle-to-doorhandle with Combs leading laps 35 and 36 by less than a
nosepiece. The race was halted on lap 36 as the red flag flew when Carri Mason
splintered the outside wall and came to a grinding halt on the frontstretch.
In a four-lap shootout, the Isom, KY native and defending Series Rookie of the
Year had to keep both of the defending Series Co-Champions at bay. When racing
resumed, Jewell made a bid for the lead, but was unsuccessful in wrangling the
top spot away. As the checkered flag fell, Chris Combs would be the first to
cross the stripe as he notched his first ever win with the O’Reilly NARA Battle
of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series in yet another exciting 201 Speedway finish.
“This is unbelievable!” said a jubilant Combs after the race. “I just have thank
my family and my crew and my sponsors. You know, when we had that caution there
with six laps to go, my crew chief motioned for me to try the high side. I gave
it a shot and it worked.”
Combs drives a Cropper powered Swartz GTO sponsored by Combs Brothers Racing,
Bub’s Trucking, Tim Short Automotive, Combs Wallpaper Gallery, K&E Trucking, R&P
Industrial Chimney, Combs Trucking, AC2 Graphics, Breeding Heavy Haulers, D&D
Dairy, and Combs Transport.
Second place was Scottsburg, IN’s Mike Jewell in the MPC Motorsports/Southern
Indiana Drilling sponsored, Bullock powered MasterSbilt Grand Prix. Tim Tungate
of Campbellsville, KY in the Mulch Madness/Guardian Mortgage/Bullock/Rayburn
Monte Carlo finished third. In his first ever appearance at the track,
Millersburg, OH’s John Mason was fourth in the Mason Racin’/Rebel Shock Dyno/SMS/Rocket
GTO. Completing the top five was Brandon Kinzer of Allen, KY driving a Custom
powered Rocket Grand Prix sponsored by Kinzer Drilling and Panther Motorsports
Design. Freddy Smith finished sixth with Justin Rattliff, David Powers, Terry
Hicks, and Jamie Ferguson rounding out the top ten.
Justin Rattliff was the fast qualifier during Racing Optics Time Trials with a
quick lap of 13.573. Mason Racin’ Heats were won by Chris Combs and Mike Jewell
with Bobby Wolter Jr. winning the Arizona Sport Shirts Heat. DJ Wells picked up
the win in the Design 500 B-Main.
The O’Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series heads to Bardstown, KY
next Saturday, July 8th to celebrate Series Race #100 at the Bluegrass Speedway.

Michael Despain – NARA Battle of the Bluegrass Open Wheel Modified PR
Joey Kramer Jams to Junction 30 Win at Ponderosa Speedway
Junction City, KY- The NARA Battle of the Bluegrass Modified Series paid a visit
to the Ponderosa Speedway in Junction City, KY on Friday night and Joey Kramer
would defend his race win and score the 2nd Annual Junction 30 on Friday evening
after also winning the event in 2005.
The start of the 30 lap, $1,500 to win 2nd Annual Junction 30 would see the trio
of Joey Kramer, Leonard Pierce, and Adam Gootee go three-wide for the lead, with
Kramer coming out on top, followed by Pierce and Gootee, with Gootee losing two
spots back to fifth after getting crossed up off of turn four. The caution would
wave in turn two on lap 2 for a spin by Dennis Barton. On the Delaware
double-file restart, Kramer would continue to hold the lead, followed by Pierce,
Victor Lee, Adam Gootee, and Kelly Warren. Warren would take fourth one lap
later, as Pierce raced side by side with Kramer for the lead, before Kramer
would secure the spot on lap 5. Kramer would start to stretch his lead as he
began lapping slower traffic on lap 9.
Caution would fly again on lap 11 when fifth place Gootee got into the wall in
turn three, with Cale Coffey and Skylar Marlar also involved, with Marlar being
done for the night. Back under green, Jimmy Payne would go to fifth and battle
with Clint Shutts for that spot.
The caution waved again on lap 12 for a multi-car pile-up in turn four involving
Jeff Johnson, Gootee, and Clarence Belcher, with Gootee and Johnson pulling pit
side. With the green flag back out, Payne would pass Warren for fourth on lap
12, but the caution would wave one circuit later when Russ Gabbert slowed in
turn one and went pit side. On the restart, Don Adams, who went to the rear
after having a flat tire on lap 2, had worked his way back to sixth and would
pressure Warren for fifth and would take fifth on lap 15. Lee would go to second
on lap 15 past Pierce, while Payne would go to third on lap 19 when Pierce
bobbled in turn four. Caution would wave again on lap 22 when Arnold Adams
looped his mount exiting turn two. With this restart, Kramer would hold a one
car length lead on Jimmy Payne, who went to second on the restart.
As the race wound down, Kramer would work lapped traffic to perfection and take
his first "BoB Mod Squad" series win of the 2006 season in his Wild's
Restoration Service/Hill's Historic Painting/Super Shine Auto Detail and Window
Tint/PBM Performance Parts/Bilstein Shocks #77 Lightning Chassis, Kramer Race
Engines powered mount. Payne would take second, followed by Lee, Don Adams, and
Pierce. Completing the top ten were Warren, Dustin Linville, Cale Coffey, Shon
Flanery, and Clarence Belcher. Twenty-five NARA Battle of the Bluegrass Modified
Series entries would see Joey Kramer the Racing Optics fast qualifier at 14.635
seconds. Qualifying heat race wins would go to Joey Kramer, Adam Gootee, and
Leonard Pierce. The B-Main would see Dustin Linville get the checkered flag,
while series provisional starting points would go to Russ Gabbert and Troy
Teegarden, with track provisionals going to Jeff Johnson and Ricky Lane.
