STRUNK AND SHUEY HONORED FOR GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY NASCAR TITLES

KUTZTOWN, PA November 10, 2007 . . . As is usual a large crowd, close to 400 people, turned out to honor the 2007 champions and other outstanding performers at the 45th annual Grandview Speedway Awards Banquet on Saturday at the Kutztown, PA Fire Hall.
For the sixth time in his career Mohnton, PA’s Jeff Strunk was able to walk off with the NASCAR Whelen All American Modified stock car championship at the Bechtelsville, PA. And for the first time in his long career Brian Shuey, Shoemakersville, PA, was able to win the NASCAR Late Model championship.
Both championships were decided on the final night of the NASCAR stock car racing season on the one-third-mile, banked clay oval. Duane Howard won the 30-lap feature race on the final night with Jeff Strunk finishing second. However when the points were tallied Strunk had edged Howard by just ONE POINT to win his sixth championship.
Strunk and the Glen Hynemann owned Gold Rush Custom Trailers No. 126 Modified earned 4934 points with five feature wins while Howard and the Chad Sinon owned No. 4 tallied six wins and 4933 points. It was the closest point battle in the 45-year track history.
The Late Model point battle also went down to the final night with Randy Stoudt looking to win his second title. He won the final feature but lost out for the title as Brian Shuey driving the Charlotte and David Eyrich owned Bob Fisher Chevy No. 5 late model edged him out by just five points on that final night.
Shuey tallied 4939 points to win his first championship. It was also a first title for the car owners.
The champions were honored with huge trophies (over six foot tall), custom championship rings, thousands of dollars in both track and NASCAR point fund money along with NASCAR awards and beautiful custom created photographs courtesy of Don Marks photos.
In the NASCAR Modified division of competition the special award winners were:
Rookie of the Year - Jason Hamilton
Most Improved Driver - Brad Missimer
Hard Luck Driver - Kyle Weiss
Best Appearing Car - Ryan Grim’s M&D Motorsports #17
Best Appearing Crew - Jeff Strunk and the Gold Rush Custom Trailers #126
Sportsmanship Award - Bobby Gunther Walsh
Best Newcomer - Marc Fehr
In the NASCAR Late Model division of competition the special award winners were:
Rookie of the Year - Bryon Sipe
Most Improved Driver - Wayne Pfeil
Hard Luck Driver - Rick Todorow
Best Appearing Car - Brian Shuey and the Bob Fisher Chevy #5
Best Appearing Crew - Chuck Schutz and the Maverick’s Motorcycle #One
Sportsmanship Award - Greg Hoffmaster
Best Newcomer - Eric Kauffman

Special appreciation awards were presented to THP as sponsors of the Freedom 76, Stauffer Construction as sponsors of the Forrest Rogers Memorial and Jeff D’Ambrosio Dodge as providers of the track pace vehicle.
Several members of the media were in attendance and received appreciation gifts from Bruce and Theresa Rogers, operators of Grandview Speedway.
The Grandview Groove track magazine Most Popular Driver Awards went to Sean Merkel in the Modifieds and Mike Kellner in the Late Models. These awards are based on the vote of the fans.
NASCAR had awards for the top three finishers in each division. Champion Jeff Strunk, Duane Howard and Terry Meitzler received the NASCAR awards in the Modified division while champion Brian Shuey, Randy Stoudt and Ron Kline were the recipients in the Late Model division.
Scott Schaeffer was honored as the Craftsman Tools Mechanic of the Year at Grandview.
A special award, presented by Ernie and Marilyn Saxton each year, is the Jerry Glase Memorial Award. It is presented in honor the long time track employee who was Ernie’s right hand man in the announcer’s booth. This year the award was presented to Bruce and Theresa Rogers who have been able to turn Grandview Speedway into one of the most successful short tracks in the nation.
The top twenty drivers and top ten owners received awards in each of the divisions of competition. Point fund money went to the top ten drivers and top five car owners in each division.
Duane Howard, the second place finisher in the NASCAR Modified standings, was not in attendance as he was in Las Vegas attending the NASCAR Whelen All American Series Awards Banquet. He was the guest of NASCAR and was honored as the Pennsylvania State NASCAR Champion which was worth $6,000.
Contrary to some rumors being circulated there are no plans for Grandview Speedway to change ownership or close. The track will be back in operation in 2008 under the ownership and operation of the Rogers family. Details of the new season will be announced shortly.
The annual free-to-the-public practice session is set for the final Saturday in March, 2008.
Information on the new season and announcements regarding racing at Grandview Speedway will be found at www.grandviewspeedway.com.
For information on marketing through motorsports and the benefits offered to local businesses telephone Ernie Saxton Communications, Inc. at 215.752.7797. At least half of the Saturday night events in 2008, featuring NASCAR Modifieds and Late Models, have sponsorship in place.

LIMITED RULE CHANGES ANNOUNCED FOR GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY RACERS

BECHTELSVILLE, PA November 9, 2007 . . . With the 2007 season just completed Grandview Speedway management was quick to announce limited rule changes for 2008 and beyond.

“Though the changes are only minor we wanted to let the competitors know early,” said track operator Bruce Rogers. “This will give the racers plenty of time to get prepared for the new season.”

An important change in the general rules is that the driver helmet standards have been updated to recommend that all racers should be using at least a Snell SA2005 rated helmet.

In the NASCAR Modified division 2350 pounds will be the minimum weight allowed regardless of what engine combination is being used.

The NASCAR Late Model changes include:
* Rear deck and spoiler height combined may not exceed 46 inches. This is a clarification of an existing rule.
* Fuel must be siphoned from the top of the fuel tank. Gravity feed is not permitted.
* A one-way check valve in the fuel tank vent is required.
* Aluminum and steel wheels are permitted, however a racecar using steel wheels will have a minimum weight of 2300 pounds.
* Beadlocks are required only on the right rear wheel.
Any questions regarding rules at Grandview Speedway should be addressed to Mike Kelly at kellymi@ptd.net.
All changes to the rules will be incorporated into the existing rules and will be found, shortly, on the track website at www.grandviewspeedway.com.

At present plans call for the annual free-to-the-public practice session to take place on March 29th.
Additional details and plans regarding the 2008 season will be announced after January 1, 2008.
Season passes will again be offered, including a reserved seat, and information may be had by telephoning the track office at 610.754.7688.

Businesses interested in benefiting from marketing through motorsports at Grandview Speedway can obtain a four-page color brochure outlining all opportunities by telephoning Ernie Saxton Communications, Inc. at 215.752.7797 or e-mailing Esaxton144@aol.com.  More than half of the Saturday night events in 2008 already have sponsorship in place.

DESPITE RUMORS GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY WILL BE OPEN FOR BUSINESS IN 2008

BECHTELSVILLE, PA October 26, 2007 . . . “It seems to be an annual ritual,” said Grandview Speedway owner Bruce Rogers. “Each year the rumors circulate that the track has been sold, a developer is going to build houses, and each year we have to put out a news release saying it is not so.”

The one-third-mile, banked clay oval will again be presenting Saturday night stock car racing, featuring Modifieds and Late Models, sanctioned by the National Association of Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR) in 2008 and for years to come.
In addition, as in the past, there will be a variety of added attractions on Saturday nights plus a series of Thunder on the Hill special promotions co-promoted by Bob Miller and Bruce Rogers.

“Rumors about the track closing create problems for everyone involved with the speedway,” said track public relations director Ernie Saxton. “The racers and the track run into problems attracting sponsors when these rumors are circulating. The Rogers family will be the first to tell everyone if and when there are any plans to close the track.

“We are already scheduling events for 2008 and have sponsors in place for more than half of our Saturday night events. This year showed an increase in fan support and we anticipate that 2008 will be even a better season. Rumors of the track closing do no good for anyone involved with racing at Grandview Speedway.”

Coming up on Saturday, November 10th is the annual track awards banquet being staged at the Kutztown, PA Fire Hall. Jeff Strunk will be honored for winning his sixth NASCAR Modified title while Brian Shuey will celebrate his first NASCAR Late Model title.
Information on advertising and event sponsorship for 2008 may be had by contacting Ernie Saxton Communications, Inc. at 215.752.7797. Special pricing if offered for those signing up by December 1, 2007.

Grandview Speedway will kick off their 46th consecutive season of stock car racing in late March, 2008.

Additional information on plans for the new season will be announced in the near future.

Fans who missed receiving a copy of the special THP Freedom 76 Yearbook can obtain a copy for just $8.00 (including postage and handling). The 52-page book includes many color and b&w photos along with stories on the champions, a special story on Duane Howard, point standings, information the Freedom 76 and the event history plus much more. HOWARD AND JON KELLNER SR. WIN OPEN COMPETITION STOCK CAR EVENTS AT GRANDVIEW

BECHTELSVILLE, PA SEPTEMBER 15, 2007 . . . .. Driving what he called his favorite racecar Duane Howard made it look easy as he wheeled the Maverick’s Motorcycle Club/Alex’s Lemonade Stand No. 114 modified stock car to victory Saturday night in the 30-lap Open Competition Modified stock car feature race at Grandview Speedway. In the 20-lap Open Comp Late Model feature race Jon Kellner Sr. drove the Hutt’s Glass No. 85am to victory, his first win in a Late Model feature since 1992 bringing his career total to 58.
Howard made a clean sweep of the evening winning his qualifying heat race, Cash Dash and the feature race using a big block modified that has been to victory lane four times in six events entered.
By virtue of a straight up start for the 24 car feature field Howard started on the pole and pulled away from the field at the drop of the green. Meme Desantis settled into second.
At ten laps Howard had a comfortable lead with Jason Hamilton having now taken over second while DeSantis dropped to third.
With 20 laps in the record book Howard was still in control while DeSantis had now moved back into second with Hamilton holding third.
Four laps later Hamilton headed to the pits with a flat tire while Mike Gular was making a charge to third from his 17th starting spot.
Howard (Oley) came home with a very comfortable lead at the drop of the checkered with Meme DeSantis (Temple) finishing second. Six time track champion Craig VonDohren (Oley) made a strong effort in the closing laps to grab third followed by Danny Erb (Boyertown) and Mike Gular (Green Lane).
The 20-lap Late Model feature, just nine cars starting, had Mike Kellner leading the early laps and his dad, Jon Kellner Sr., working his way from fifth starting spot and hoping to challenge his son. However on the 7th circuit young Mike went to the pits with a flat tire and dad took over the top spot.
At ten laps Jon Kellner Sr. was building up a lead while Brian Shuey, the 2007 Late Model champion, was working his way toward the front.
At the finish Kellner Sr. (Lansdale), who had got caught up behind some lapped traffic, was able to hold off a strong challenge from Shuey (Shoemakersville). Third spot went to Greg Hoffmaster (Pottstown) followed by four time champion Dean Stoudt (East Greenville) and Johnny Favinger (Coatesville) get his best career finish.
The win the first for Kellner Sr. since 1992 brought his career Late Model feature win total to 58. It should be pointed out that Kellner Sr. had spent several years racing Modifieds and was a feature winner in that division. It was just this season, with about one third of the season completed, that his sons were able to talk him into getting back into the Late Models after he had retired from Modified competition.
Qualifying heat wins for the Modifieds went to Howard, Meme DeSantis and Jason Hamilton while the consolation was won by Sean Merkel. A five lap Cash Dash featuring the Modified heat winners was won by Howard.
Next event at Grandview Speedway will take place on Saturday, October 20th at 6 p.m. featuring five 25-lap features (no qualifying events). It will be an early Halloween celebration with prizes for best costumes. There will be feature events for URC Sprints, 358 Modifieds, Late Models, Legends and 600 Modifieds.
Coming up on Saturday, October 27th is the annual Fall Racer’s Flea Market with a 7 am starting time.
Fans are reminded that they are free to visit with the racers in the pits after the racing action has been completed to collect autographs, take pictures and see the race cars up close. Many of the race teams do have FREE photo cards for fans and also offer t-shirts and other souvenir items for sale.

SHORT STORY:STRUNK WINS THIRD THP FREEDOM 76 STYLE

BECHTELSVILLE, PA September 9, 2007. . . Six time NASCAR Whelen All American Modified Series champion Jeff Strunk basically ran away with the THP Freedom 76 on Saturday night at Grandview Speedway.
For the third time in his career Strunk was able to win the $20,000 to win event but a first time for Strunk with car owner Glenn Hyneman and the Gold Rush Custom Trailers No. 126. Hyneman won the event twice before as a car owner with drivers Craig VonDohren and Billy Pauch.
Strunk lead just about all the laps in his impressive run to victory.
Second place went to Duane Howard who got caught up in a battle with a lapped car that cost him a considerable amount of time and kept him from being able to challenge for the win.
Third spot was earned by Kenny Gilmore in an impressive run followed by Craig VonDohren who was able to lead just one of the 76 laps. Jimmy Horton grabbed fifth.
The Schaeffer Motorsports Minuteman 20 was won by Ryan Watt with Jeff Strunk picking up $1000 for his win in the Cash Dash.
Coming up on September 15th and 22nd is open competition racing for the Modifieds and Late Model stock cars. Racing starts at 7 p.m.

FULL STORY: STRUNK, STRUNK AND WATT IN GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY THP FREEDOM 76 ACTION

BECHTELSVILLE, PA September 9, 2007 . . . Six time NASCAR Whelen All American Series Modified champion Jeff Strunk had a relatively easy time of it as he lead all but eight laps of the THP Freedom 76 Modified Classic picking up $20,000 plus lap money for his impressive victory on Saturday night at Grandview Speedway.
Strunk, who calls nearby Mohnton, PA home, also picked up $1,000 for his win in the 10-lap Cash Dash. Ryan Watt (Bechtelsville) drove to victory in the Schaeffer Motorsports Minuteman 20.
Jason Smythe, making a rare start at Grandview this season, charged to the front at the drop of the green in front of a huge crowd filling the stands at the Bechtelsville, PA clay oval.
On the second circuit Shawn Reimert put his Kochel Equipment No. 41 in front of the 33 car starting field and was able to hold off a hard charging Jeff Strunk and the Gold Rush Custom Trailers/Touch of Green Landscaping No. 126 for a few laps. At the seven lap marker Strunk charged to the front.
Strunk and Reimert had quite a battle going on for several laps before Ryan Godown, a New Egypt Speedway standout, came up to challenge Strunk. At 17 laps a pre-race favorite in Doug Manmiller had the engine let go putting him out of action.
With 20 laps in the record book Godown was right on the rear bumper of leader Strunk but nine laps later Gowdown spun by himself in turn two putting him to the back of the field. He later dropped out after an impressive run.
Craig VonDohren was able to leap in front the field on the 30th lap but that was short-lived as Strunk, clearly the class of the field on this night, went to the front again and that is where he stayed for the balance of the 76 lap event.
A fuel stop on lap 55, after 95 laps had been run, allowed the top five to be bunched up with Strunk in front followed by VonDohren, Duane Howard, Kenny Gilmore and Jimmy Horton.
At 60-laps Strunk continued to sit comfortably in the front of the pack while challengers were having trouble with a lapped car.
Once Howard, driving the Mavericks MC Club/Alex’s Lemonade Stand No. 4, was able to get by the lapped car Strunk’s lead had increased to the point that the Oley, PA racer, who had finished one point behind Strunk in the chase for the track championship, could not challenge and had to settle for second which earned him $10,000.
Kenny Gilmore (Kutztown) drove a fantastic race at the wheel of the BPG Racing/Chad Sinon Motorsports No. 114 ( a first time ride for him), finishing third.
Six time track champion Craig VonDohren (Oley) finished fourth with his Stauffer Construction No. 1C. VonDohren also encountering problems with lapped traffic late in the race. VonDohren had started 16th.
Jimmy Horton (Neshanic Station, NJ) put on an impressive display of driving running the high and low grooves to finish 5th after starting 23rd.
In Victory Lane Strunk summed it up as a “good year” as he added the Freedom 76 win to a season that also included championships at Grandview and Big Diamond Raceway.
Both Strunk and car owner Glenn Hyneman, a Freedom 76 winner with Strunk as a driver for the first time, dedicated Strunk’s third THP Freedom 76 win to Chad Miller, a team member, who had been fatally injured in a one car highway accident midway in the season. Hyneman has won the race twice before as a car owner with Craig VonDohren and Billy Pauch as drivers.
Strunk also made it look easy winning the Cash Dash over a nine car field to pick up $1,000. The Dash included qualifying heat winners and the three guaranteed starters.
Ryan Watt ran a strong race with the Fran’s Auto Repair No. 6 to grab the Schaeffer Motorsport’s Minuteman 20. Watt lead Mike Gular, Don Norris Jr,, John Tschudy and Kenny Brightbill across the finish line with all of them earning starting spots in the THP Freedom 76.
Qualifying heat race wins went to Jon Kellner Jr., Shawn Reimert, Kevin Hirthler, Duane Howard, Tommy Scheetz Jr. and Ryan Godown.
Consolation race wins were earned by Ray Swinehart, Mike Gular and Randy Bailey.
Three fans picked up $500 is cash, between them, for having the lucky Frisbees that were tossed into the stands by representatives of race sponsor THP (a well known area housing developer).
The Cornerstone Auto Sales of Fleetwood, PA Hard Charger Award went to Mike Gular bringing the THP No.53 home ninth after starting 29th.
Area Auto Racing News, a national trade publication, presented a First Out award to John Tschudy. First Alternate Award went to Randy Bailey courtesy of Beer City in Quakertown, PA and the Hard Luck Award was earned by Ryan Gowdown and was presented by Beer City.
Open competition modifieds and late model stock car racing will be presented on both September 15th and 22nd. Racing will start at 7 pm. These events give racers a chance to try some unique ideas with their racecars and often times racers from other tracks will show up testing their skills against the regulars.
Fans are reminded that they are free to visit with the racers in the pits after the racing action has been completed to collect autographs, take pictures and see the race cars up close. Many of the race teams do have FREE photo cards for fans and also offer t-shirts and other souvenir items for sale.

SHORT STORY: HOWARD AND STOUDT WIN THE BATTLES, STRUNK AND SHUEY WIN THE WARS AT GRANDVIEW
BECHTELSVILLE, PA September 2, 2007 . . . When the excitement was over at Grandview Speedway on Saturday night Duane Howard had won the 30-lap Green Lane Wm. Penn NASCAR Modified feature race and Randy Stoudt had won the 20-lap NASCAR Late Model feature. However there was little rejoicing from the winners since Jeff Strunk, by virtue of his second place finish in the Modified feature won his sixth NASCAR Modified championship by just one point. And in the Late Models Brian Shuey had finished third to grab his first Late Model title by just five points.
Howard and Stoudt had won the battles but Strunk and Shuey had won the season long wars.
Kevin Hirthler came on strong in the closing laps of the Modified feature to grab third followed by Don Norris, who had lead for several laps, and Jason Hamilton.
Young Mike Kellner ran a strong race to grab second in the Late Model feature followed by Shuey, John Giesler, who lead early, and Jon Kellner Sr.
The 15-lap Legends car feature race was won by Jason Rochelle for his fifth win of the season and second at Grandview Speedway.

Saturday, September 8, 7 pm THP Freedom 76 Modified Classic. Qualifying events topped off by 76-lap Classic paying $20,000 to win. Spectator gates open at 3 pm for advance ticket holders and 3:30 pm for those purchasing tickets. Rain date is September 15.
And on September 15 and 22nd, 6 p.m. Open competition Modifieds and Late Model stock cars will be in action.

FULL STORY: HOWARD, STOUDT, STRUNK AND SHUEY ARE PART OF A HOLLYWOOD ENDING AT GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY

BECHTELSVILLE, PA September 2, 2007 . . . Hollywood film producers probably could not have come up with such a great Hollywood ending as happened at Grandview Speedway on Saturday night.
When the evening started Jeff Strunk had a 12 point lead over Duane Howard in his quest for a sixth NASCAR Modified title. Duane Howard did all that he could to win the NASCAR Whelen All American Modified Series championship as he finished second in his qualifying heat and won the 30-lap NASCAR Modified feature race. Jeff Strunk finished second in the feature and third in his qualifying heat. When all the figures were tallied Strunk had won the closest finish in track history grabbing the title by just one point over Howard.
A stunned Duane Howard stood in victory lane unbelieving that he had lost the championship by one point. He sort of indicated that it was not as big a deal as people were making it out to be. “I still have a job to go to on Monday morning,” said Howard. “It was a heck of a battle.” There just may have been tears in his eyes. Howard and his BPG Racing/Chad Sinon Motorsports No. 4 team had done all that they could on that final point night.
And Jeff Strunk and his Gold Rush Custom Trailers No. 126 team were celebrating. Car owner Glenn Hyneman said, “We had a job to do and did it.” That pretty much said all that had to be said. Strunk dedicated the championship to 17-year-old Chad Miller, son of crew chief Donnie Miller, who had been killed in a single car auto accident several weeks back.
It was pretty much the same story in the NASCAR Late Model division as Randy Stoudt drove the TP Trailers No. 10 Late Model to victory in the 20-lap feature race. He had gone into the final race 25-points behind the point leader Brian Shuey. When the race was over he was 5-points behind and Shuey, who had finished third in a late race charge, earned his first NASCAR Late Model championship.
Stoudt told the crowd, “I really thought the motor would give out. It has been a good season.” He had birthday cake waiting for him as he was celebrating his birthday and winning the championship would have made for a nice gift. “I really like winning features (he won six during the season). I think that is better for sponsors and the fans than winning championships.”
Shuey thanked his car owners and labeled his crew as the best in the business. “It was a great year going down to the last lap,” said Shuey about winning his first title. The Shoemakersville, PA racer won his first track title and thanked his sponsors including the primary sponsor Bob Fisher Chevy.
Mark Fehr charged to the front of the pack on the drop of the green for the Green Lane Wm. Penn/Four Star Lettering Night modified feature race. Fehr was in front for five laps before Don Norris took control and was setting a very quick pace. At 11 laps completed Duane Howard, coming from 12th, was putting pressure on the leader and charged to the front on the 12th circuit.
Jeff Strunk moved to second, after starting 11th, to put the pressure on the frontrunner. The final 10 laps was a chase to the checkered flag with Duane Howard (Oley) able to hold off Strunk to gain his fifth win of the season and the $2,200 that goes with it. It was a great warmup for the rich THP Freedom 76 that is set at Grandview Speedway for Saturday, September 8th that offers $20,000 to win.
Strunk (Mohnton) finished second while Kevin Hirthler (Bechtelsville) charged from 24th starting position to grab third. Fourth spot went to Don Norris Jr. (Douglassville) followed by Jason Hamilton (Erwinna).
Three-time past champion John Geisler went to the front at the start of the 20-lapper for the Late Models while teenager Kyle Merkel grabbed the front spot on the fourth lap. Randy Stoudt, coming from seventh, took control of the race on the sixth lap.
Once in front Stoudt was comfortably in control of the event with Mike Kellner doing his best to track down the leader and hold off young Kyle Merkel. At the finish Stoudt (Pottstown) was well in front with Mike Kellner (Lansdale) finishing second. Brian Shuey (Shoemakersville) took third followed by John Geisler (Aston) and Jon Kellner Sr. (Lansdale).
Jason Rochelle of Schnecksville, PA took the lead on the drop of the green for the 15-lap Legends Cars feature race and lead all the laps to win his second of the season at Grandview Speedway. Steve Nederostek kept the pressue on Rochelle throughout the event but just could not build up enough steam to get by the leader. Third spot in the feature went to Josh Morrow followed by Tim Henry and Tim Bauer.
Qualifying heat races in the NASCAR Modifieds were won by Mark Kratz, Craig VonDohren, Jon Kellner Jr. and John Willman. The consolation races went to Danny Erb and John Tschudy. In the NASCAR Late Models the preliminary events were won by Chuck Schutz, Jon Kellner Sr. and Kyle Merkel. In the Central PA Legends Cars qualifying races went to Rodney Kistler and Tom Mayberry.
The Cornerstone Auto Sales of Fleetwood, PA Hard Charger Awards went to Greg Hoffmaster in the NASCAR Late Models gaining 12 spots from 21st to 9th in the 20-lap feature. In the NASCAR Modified feature Kevin Hirthler went from 24th to 3rd, gaining 21 positions. Each driver earns $50.
The biggest and richest event of the season takes place on Saturday, September 8th, 7 pm with the running of the 37th Annual THP Freedom 76 Modified Classic. There is $20,000 for winner and $10,000 for second. A special Cash Dash pays $1,000. Gates open at 3 p.m. for advance ticket holders and ticket windows open at 3:30 p.m. Dabby the Clown will be there doing face painting at 5:30 p.m.
Legendary dirt track racer Kenny Brightbill is entered as is Jimmy Horton, Joey Grammes, David VanHorn and others. More than 70 entries are expected.
Rain date is Saturday, September 15th. If the rain date is not need then open competition modifieds and late models will be presented on both September 15th and 22nd.
Grandview Speedway is located on Passmore Road, just off Route 100, in Bechtelsville, PA, 10 miles north of Pottstown. For race information telephone 610.754.7688 or visit their website at www.grandviewspeedway.com.

CLOSE POINT BATTLE CLOSES OUT CHAMPIONSHIP RACE AT GRANDVIEW ON SEPT. 1, RICH THP FREEDOM 76 RACE SET FOR SEPT. 8

BECHTELSVILLE, PA August 28, 2007 . . . Just 12 points separate point leader Jeff Strunk from challenger Duane Howard in the chase for the lucrative NASCAR Whelen All American Series Modified championship at Grandview Speedway. And in the NASCAR Late Models there is a one point difference between point leader Brian Shuey and second place Ron Kline.
Five time Modified champion Strunk, already the champion at Big Diamond Raceway, will be looking to gain his sixth title with a strong effort on Saturday night, September 1st, when the Modifieds are part of the Green Lane Wm. Penn/Four Star Lettering Night tripleheader. The green flag drops for racing action at 7:30 pm with the Legend cars joining the NASCAR Modifieds and Late Models.
Duane Howard, winner of four feature races this season at the Berks County one-third-mile, banked clay oval, is going for his fourth title.
The championship is worth more than $15,000 in point fund money and other awards from Grandview and NASCAR. A Champion’s Trip, valued at $3,000, to the Panama and two other islands will go to the top point man and his guest.
Brian Shuey has lead the Late Model point chase for much of the season and now takes just a one point edge into the final point event of the season. Past champion Ron Kline is second while Randy Stoudt, winner of five features this season, is third just 25 points behind.
Once the lucrative point championships are decided on Saturday night, all attention will turn to the THP Freedom 76 set for Saturday, September 8th at 7 pm.
With $20,000 going to the winner and $10,000 waiting for the second place finisher the event annually attracts the “cream of the crop” in area dirt track modified racers.
Legends Jimmy Horton and Kenny Brightbill have indicated they will be there along with Billy Pauch Jr. and a host of others. Brightbill won the classic race back in 1990.
Craig VonDohren, Jeff Strunk, Duane Howard, Ray Swinehart, Donny Erb and other Grandview regulars will be looking for a win in the lucrative 76-lap race. A $1,000 to win Cash Dash will feature some of the top event qualifiers.
The final opportunity to make the THP Freedom 76 will be the Schaeffer’s Motorsports Minuteman 20.
Advance tickets will be on sale at the track on Saturday, September 1st. Adult tickets are $25.00, youngsters (6 thru 11) pay $7, and kids accompanied by paying adults are admitted FREE. Rain date is September 15.
Gates will open at 3 pm for advance ticket holders and ticket windows open at 3:30 pm.
Open competition Modifieds and Late Models will be the featured attractions on Saturday, September 15 and 22.
Top performers from the 45th season of racing at Grandview Speedway will be honored at the annual awards banquet at the Kutztown, PA Fire Hall on November 10th.
Grandview Speedway is located on Passmore Road, just off Route 100, in Bechtelsville, PA, 10 miles north of Pottstown. For information telephone 610.754.7688 or check in at www.grandviewspeedway.com.

SHORT STORY: HIRTHLER GETS FIRST FEATURE WIN, TODOROW GETS FIRST WIN IN FOUR YEARS
Young Kevin Hirthler took the lead on the fourth lap and never looked back as he drove the Green Lane Wm. Penn/Four Star Lettering No. 117 Modified to victory Saturday night in the 30-lap MidLantic Machinery NASCAR Modified feature race at Grandview Speedway. The 20-lap feature for NASCAR Late Models, delayed 90 minutes due to rain, was won by Rick Todorow in his Juniper Auto Body No. 93 for his first feature win since June, 2004.
Jon Kellner Jr. was within shouting distance of the fleet running Hirthler to grab a strong second place finish. Kerry Kratz came home third followed by Mike Gular and Doug Manmiller.
Jeff Strunk finished sixth while point leader Duane Howard came home 12th giving Strunk the point lead in the chase for the Modified title by just 12 points.
Dean Stoudt kept Rick Todorow in his sights in the final laps but had to settle for second in the Late Model feature race. Mike Kellner finished third after leading early. Ron Kline was fourth and Jon Kellner Sr. grabbed fifth.
Brian Shuey holds just a one point edge over Ron Kline in the Late Model championship battle that will be decided this Saturday.
The final point race event of the season is set for this Saturday, September 1st at 7:30 pm. Green Lane Wm. Penn/Four Star Lettering Night will feature the NASCAR Modifieds, Late Models and Legends.

FULL STORY: KEVIN HIRTHLER AND RICK TODOROW WIN NASCAR FEATURES AT GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY
VERY CLOSE POINT BATTLES IN MODIFIEDS AND LATE MODELS

BECHTELSVILLE, PA August 26, 2007 . . . Young Kevin Hirthler drove the family owned Green Lane Wm. Penn/Four Star Lettering No. 117 Modified to victory Saturday night in the 30-lap MidLantic Machinery NASCAR Whelen Modified feature race at Grandview Speedway. For the Green Lane, PA racer it was his first career Modified win at the Berks County clay oval.
In the 20-lapper for NASCAR Late Models Rick Todorow had to wait out a 90-minute rain delay before being able to win his first feature race since June, 2004.
The finishes of the Saturday night events set up one of the closest point battles in the history of the track as Jeff Strunk takes a 12 point lead over Duane Howard into the September 1st Modified race. Brian Shuey has a one point edge over Ron Kline in the chase for the Late Model championship on the final point night.
Glenn Owens put his mount in front of the 29-car starting field and set the pace, surviving some early race skirmishes, for the first three laps. Hirthler, coming from 11th starting spot, took command of the race on the fourth circuit of the one-third-mile, banked clay oval.
At the ten lap marker Jon Kellner Jr. came up to challenge Hirthler for the top spot and the two stayed in those positions throughout the final 20-laps leading to starter Ray Kemp’s checkered flag.
The final laps of the feature race were uneventful with Hirthler a comfortable margin in front of Kellner (Lansdale) at the finish. Third spot went to Kerry Kratz (Bechtelsville) for one of his best efforts of the season. Mike Gular (Green Lane) came from 19th to finish fourth with Doug Manmiller (Shoemakersville) taking fifth after starting 21st.
In the battle for the lucrative NASCAR Modified title Jeff Strunk, with a sixth place finish after starting 24th, was able to gain the lead with a 12 point edge going into the final point events of the season coming up on Saturday, September 1st. Duane Howard, the point leader going into the night’s events, got caught up in an on track incident that may have caused some handling problems in the car, had to settle for a 12th place finish dropping him to second in the standings.
When action resumes on Saturday night Strunk will be going for his sixth track title while Howard will be trying for his fourth. Of course the fact that there is about $15,000 in point fund money and a Champion’s Trip to the Panama up for grabs will make the battle even more interesting.
Rick Todorow started on the pole and finished in first in the 20-lap Late Model feature. It sounds pretty easy but it took the veteran Quakertown, PA racer a 90-minute rain delay and more than three years to get the victory.
Early in the race Todorow was challenged by Wayne Pfeil but at the six lap marker young Mike Kellner charged from sixth to grab second and put some heavy pressure on the leader.
At 11 laps Kellner charged to the front coming off turn four when Todorow bobbled. At 13 laps Billy Graham spun creating a multi car tangle that eliminated the point leader Brian Shuey and a couple of others.
On the 17th circuit Todorow was back in front as a result of a “bobble” by Kellner and that is where he stayed to grab the win.
In victory lane the low key Juniper Auto Body Shop owner said it seemed like “ten years since he last won.”
Second spot went to four time Late Model kingpin Dean Stoudt (East Greenville) for what may have been his strongest effort of the season. Third place went to Mike Kellner (Lansdale) followed by Ron Kline (Salford) and Jon Kellner Sr. (Lansdale).
With Brian Shuey out early and credited with a 16th place finish and Ron Kline finishing fourth the battle for the Late Model title goes into the final night of point events with Shuey holding just a one point edge in his quest for a first championship.
Qualifying events for the NASCAR Whelen Modified racers went to Glenn Owens, Kevin Hirthler, Marc Fehr and Sean Merkel. The consolation races were won by Doug Manmiller and Rick Schaffer. In the Late Model preliminaries wins were earned by Brian Shuey, Dean Stoudt and Kyle Merkel.
The Cornerstone Auto Sales of Fleetwood, PA Hard Charger Awards went to Jeff Strunk in the NASCAR Modifieds going from 24th starting spot to finish 6th and Chuck Schutz in the Late Models going from 18th to 6th in the 20-lap feature.
The final point race event of the season takes place on Saturday, September 1, 7:30 p.m. featuring the NASCAR Modifieds, Late Models and Legends. The night is sponsored by Green Lane William Penn/Four Star Lettering.
The annual THP Freedom 76 Golf Classic is set for Thursday, September 6th, 9 am at the Blackwood Golf Course. Registrations are limited to 72 players. For information telephone Kenny Rogers at 610.754.6420. Entry fee is $75 and includes steak dinner, golf, prizes and shirt.
Advance tickets for the rich THP Freedom 76 Modified Classic, September 8th, are now on sale at the speedway on race nights. Adult tickets sell for $25.00, youngsters 6 thru 11 pay $7 and kids under 6 are free when accompanied by a paying adult. Pit admission will be $40. Outsiders that are planning to race include Jimmy Horton, Kenny Brightbill, Keith Brightbill, Joey Grammes, David VanHorn and others to be announced.
Spectator gates will open for advance ticket holders at 3 pm on September 8th with ticket windows open at 3:30 pm. No one will be allowed in the spectator areas before 3 pm.
In close balloting for the Grandview Groove Most Popular Driver Awards Jeff Strunk has moved in front in the Modifieds and Rick Todorow is on top in the Late Models. Voting continues until the end of September.
Grandview Speedway is located on Passmore Road, just off Route 100, in Bechtelsville, PA, 10 miles north of Pottstown. For race information telephone 610.754.7688 or visit their website at www.grandviewspeedway.com.

SHORT STORY: STRUNK, SCHUTZ AND MANMILLER GET GRANDVIEW WINS
Jeff Strunk was just too strong for the competition on Saturday night at Grandview Speedway as he won the 30-lap USG Sheetrock NASCAR Modified feature race going away. In the 20-lapper for Late Models Chuck Schutz took the win and it was Doug Manmiller winning the 15-lap Xcel 600 Modified feature race.
Rick Schaffer finished second to Strunk the Modified main event but had nothing for him at the finish while Duane Howard continued to be the point leader finishing third. Mike Gular grabbed fourth and Kevin Hirthler was a strong fifth.
The Late Model feature was a four car chase to the checkered flag with Schutz just able to nose out Rick Todorow who had lead for several laps. Third spot went to a hard charging Randy Stoudt while Wayne Pfeil and Brian Shuey, the Late Model point leader, followed.
Modified regular Doug Manmiller climbed into a 600 Modified for the first time and gave them all some lessons as he won the 15-lap feature race.
Tuesday, August 21st, the NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Series will feature five 25-lap features with no qualifying events. 25-lap features will be run for the 410 sprints, 358 modifieds, 600cc Micro Sprints, 600 Modifieds and Legends. Racing starts at 7:30 p.m.

FULL STORY: STRUNK, SCHUTZ AND MANMILLER WIN AT GRANDVIEW
BECHTELSVILLE, PA August 19, 2007 . . . If there were doubts in anyone’s mind that Jeff Strunk was not serious about his efforts to win a sixth NASCAR Whelen All American Series Modified title at Grandview Speedway he showed he was dead serious on Saturday night. Strunk, at the wheel of the Gold Rush Custom Trailers No. 126, ran away and hid from all the other competitors winning the 30-lap USG Sheetrock NASCAR Modified feature race.
Chuck Schutz came on strong in the final couple of laps to come out on top in a four car duel to the finish in the 20-lap NASCAR Late Model feature and it was Doug Manmiller taking his first ride in a 600 Modified winning the 15-lap Xcel 600 Modified feature.
Mark Fehr charged to the front of the 28-car starting field in the 30-lap Modified feature and set the pace. On the third circuit of the one-third-mile, banked clay oval a multi car melee in turn three had Meme DeSantis barrel rolling but walking away uninjured.
On the restart Fehr was still in charge but on the eighth lap Jeff Strunk, coming from 12th starting spot, went to the front and stayed for the balance of the 30-lapper.
Despite a couple of cautions that allowed the field to close up on him Strunk was able to pull away from the field on each restart and just proved to be the class of the field on this particular night.
The Mohnton, PA racer dedicated his win to John Blewett III, a NASCAR Whelen Modified racer, who was killed at Thompson, CT in a tragic racing accident. Strunk pointed out that the car was very strong and the track conditions were “awesome.” The win moved Strunk to within 48 points of current point leader Duane Howard in the chase for the lucrative track and NASCAR point championships worth an estimated $15,000 or more.
Second spot went to Rick Schaffer (Woxall) followed by point leader Duane Howard (Oley) who came from 20th starting spot to grab third. Mike Gular (Green Lane) had an impressive gain of 13 spots after starting 17th to finish 4th. Kevin Hirthler (Boyertown) came from 18th to grab fifth.
The 20-lap Late Model feature had the two leaders D.D.Keely and Greg Hoffmaster caught up in a first turn, first lap accident that put them both out of competition giving the lead to veteran Rick Todorow.
The Quakertown, PA auto body shop owner looked like he might be on his way to his first win in a few seasons as he set the pace until the eighth circuit, relinquished the lead to Wayne Pfeil Jr who was looking for his first career win, and then took it back on the 12th lap.
With five laps to go Todorow had control but Pfeil, Chuck Schutz and Randy Stoudt were in the picture.
The final five circuits had a four car chase for the top spot and with two laps to go Schutz went to the front to grab his fourth win of the season in a wild chase to the finish line. The Pottstown racer said in victory lane, “We either break or do really good. Tonight was really good.”
Finishing behind Schutz and his BPG Racing/Herb Realty No. 1 was Todorow followed by Randy Stoudt (Pottstown), Wayne Pfeil (Mohnton) and Brian Shuey (Shoemakersville).
Shuey continues to lead the Late Model point chase by just 31 points over Randy Stoudt and Ron Kline who are tied for second.
A 15-lap Xcel 600 Modified feature race had Kyle Gardner and Chuck Miller battling up to the 11th lap with Doug Manmiller closing in with the “rental car.” At the 11 lap marker a multi car fracas in turn four put Miller out of competition, put Gardner to the rear of the field and gave Manmiller the lead.
At the finish Manmiller (Shoemakersville, making his first start in a 600 Modified, was in front of the pack with Scott Washburn finishing second followed by Mike Keppler, Brett Arndt and Shawn Burd.
Qualifying event wins in the Modified division went to Mark Kratz, Jason Hamilton, Jeff Strunk and Rick Schaffer. The consolations went to Craig VonDohren and Don Norris Jr. In Late Model qualifiers winners were D.D.Keely, Greg Hoffmaster and Dean Stoudt. Wins in the Xcel 600 Modified qualifiers were earned by Kevin Gruber and Doug Manmiller.
The Cornerstone Auto Sales of Fleetwood, PA Hard Charger Awards went to Randy Stoudt going from 18th to third in the Late Model feature for a gain of 15 spots. In the Modifieds it was Duane Howard coming from 20th to third for a gain of 17 positions.

FULL STORY: VONDOHREN AND STOUDT EACH GET FIFTH WIN AT GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY
BECHTELSVILLE, PA August 12, 2007 . . . Craig VonDohren probably feels like a yo-yo sometimes. His season has been one of ups and downs. Saturday night at Grandview Speedway VonDohren, a six-time track champion, had an up when he drove the Stauffer Construction/Felty Farms No.1c to victory in the 30-lap NASCAR Whelen All American Series Modified stock car feature race.
Randy Stoudt won the Annual Memorial Classic for Late Models, a 30-lap feature race dedicated to the memory of racers, officials and track employees who have passed away during the 45 year history of the Berks County clay oval.
Don Norris Jr. charged to the front of the 28-car starting field at the drop of Ray Kemp’s green flag. At the four lap marker Sean Merkel, a two feature winner this season, took command but Craig VonDohren was on the move from his eighth place starting spot.
At 8 laps VonDohren was in second and put heavy pressure on the leader. On the next circuit Jeff Strunk and Duane Howard, both involved in a close battle for the championship, made some quick moves to avoid an accident on the front straightaway. On the tenth circuit Strunk slowed on the edge of the front straightaway and was done for the night with mechanical woes.
With 11 laps in the record book Oley based VonDohren was in front with Meme DeSantis giving him some strong competition while Howard, coming from 12th, now in third.
At the 20-lap marker VonDohren still was the man to beat and Duane Howard had replaced DeSantis in second spot.
Howard (Oley), who took over the point lead in the chase for the lucrative NASCAR Modified track championship by virtue of his second place finish, was not able to real in VonDohren who went on to win and pick up the $2,200 first place money.
Kevin Hirthler (Boyertown) had a strong finish to grab third followed by DeSantis (Temple) and Ryan Watt (Bechtelsville).
The 30-lap Late Model feature had to be another disappointment for Greg Hoffmaster and his Schaeffer’s Harley Davidson No. 69 team. The veteran driver went to the front at the start and that saved him from getting involved in a massive multi-car wreck in the first turn of the first lap. Buddy Wharton flipped but was not injured and several racers were not able to continue.
Kyle Merkel gave Hoff master “fits” for more than half of the 30-laps even going side-by-side a couple of times.
At 20-laps Hoffmaster looked comfortable in first but his close friend and also his nemesis Randy Stoudt have now moved into a position to challenge for the win.
The final 10 laps saw Stoudt pressure Hoffmaster and with just two laps remaining Stoudt was able to charge by the leader coming off the fourth turn and ride to his fifth win of the season. The Pottstown racer and the TP Trailers/Paradise Road Slot Track No.10 team picked up $1,000 for their efforts. Hoff master (Pottstown) was forced to settle for his third second place finish in the last month. Brian Shuey (Shoemakersville), the current Late Model point leader, grabbed third followed by Ron Kline (Salford) and Chuck Schutz (Pottstown).
Qualifying races for the Late Models were won by D.D. Keely, Hoffmaster and Stoudt. The Kochel Equipment Cash Dash in Memory of the late Chuck Sennott was won by Chuck Schutz.
In the Modified qualifiers wins went to Duane Howard, Ryan Watt, Sean Merkel and Mark Kratz. Consolation races were won by Tommy Scheetz Jr. and Kerry Kratz.
Veteran track photographer Don Marks and track announcer Ernie Saxton (now into his 39th year) were honored with Grandview Speedway “stars” in recognition of their long service to the track. The stars will be hung on the back of the grandstands along with stars of a number of other honorees.
The Cornerstone Auto Sales of Fleetwood, PA Hard Charger Awards went to Tom Umbenhauer in the Modifieds for going from 27th to ninth gaining 18 spots in the Modified feature. In the Late Models Eric Kauffman went from 22nd to 8th in the 30-lap feature.
USG Night is up next on August 18th featuring the NASCAR Modifieds, Late Models and 600 Modifieds. Dover International Speedway will also be offering some prizes to fans with their “Monster on the Prowl” traveling road show. Fans are invited to test their skills on the pit-stop tire challenge and sign up for great prizes. Two pit passes for the September 23rd NASCAR Nextel Cup “Chase Race” will be given away.
