FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Advance Auto Parts Super Dirtcar Series to Race For $10,000 to Win in 2008 Return to Virginia Motor Speedway

Jamaica, VA – When the Advance Auto Parts Super Dirtcar Series big block modifieds return to the Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway for the 2nd Annual Paul Sawyer Memorial on Thursday, May 1st they will notice a big difference in the 60 lap purse… it will pay $10,000 to the winner!

With the success of the event this past May track owner Bill Sawyer decided he wanted to make the 2nd Annual Paul Sawyer Memorial bigger and better, “With the excitement created by the 2007 event it is only logical to continue to elevate this event to marquee status with the announced purse increase.”

“This event will continue to grow in stature and importance on the Super Dirtcar Series schedule for many years to come. With a purse paying in excess of $45,000 for the 2008 event we hope this shows the drivers and fans that follow the Dirtcar big block modified series that this is a long term commitment on our part and by having reduced the number of laps for the feature event it would appear that Virginia Motor Speedway has set a precedent for future Super Dirtcar Series events,” added Sawyer.

The 2007 event saw ‘The Doctor’ Danny Johnson best a field of 33 big block modifieds that made the tow to the ½ mile speed plant in Jamaica, VA; with the 2008 event paying $10,000 to win and $700 to start Dirtcar Northeast’s Director of Series & Sanctions Cory Reed expects that the number of competitors will skyrocket, “Obviously our first trip to Virginia in May was successful on all aspects, from the quality of the race itself and the number of competitors. With the increased purse I feel confident that even more of our great big block competitors will make the tow south in 2008.”

“With what Bill Sawyer is doing, it is obvious that he appreciated the efforts that we as a sanction and our teams put into the event; with the increased purse this begins the process of the Paul Sawyer Memorial becoming a marquee event on our schedule each year,” added Reed.

The Advance Auto Parts Super Dirtcar Series competitors will once again be paired with a 40 lap Super Late Model race to make up the Paul Sawyer Memorial. Several of NASCAR’s stars are also expected to be in attendance again and competing in both the big block 60 lap event and the Super Late Model 40 lap event.

Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway, an ASA Member Track affiliate, is a ½ mile dirt oval track is located on U.S. Route 17, eight miles north of Saluda, VA and 25 miles south of Tappahannock, VA in Jamaica, VA. The speedway is just a short drive from Richmond, Fredericksburg, Southern Maryland and the Hampton Roads area.

To learn more about Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway and its 2008 schedule of events, fans may call the Speedway office at (804) 758-1VMS or visit the track’s web site at www.vamotorspeedway.com.

Jamaica, VA – The win in the Victory Lap Late Model 40 Lap Fall Classic feature came down to the last two laps as Donnie Marshall, Jr. got by Sommey Lacey and then leader Anthony Kincaid to take the lead coming to the white flag in a mad scramble for the top spot. Marshall would go on to pick up his first win of the 2007 season in his Virginia Country Real Estate / West Sandblasting & Painting / Garris Race Car Parts / Racequest Motorsports / Mitchell Motorsports sponsored #1M Chevrolet Monte Carlo Rocket.

“I knew I had to make the move when I did or get caught behind both Lacey and Kincaid, they both seemed to be fading a bit there at the end and my car just kept getting stronger,” commented a very happy Marshall in victory lane.

Rounding out the top five were Mike Latham (started 11th), Mark Parks (started 13th), Neil McClanan and Anthony Kincaid.

In other action Daren Bolac of Moyock, NC took the lead form Chuck Alessi of Middletown, NY with a three wide pass on lap 10 and went on to get his career first New Generation Racing Sprint Car victory as Craig Folmar of Philipsburg, PA picked up the first ever New Generation Racing Sprint Car Championship. In the Budweiser Modified 30 lap feature Bret Hamilton of Powhatan, VA led flag to flag to take his fourth Fall Classic win. In the Truckin Thunder Sportsman 35 lap feature Roger Jamerson of Glen Allen, VA set his car on cruise, leading every lap on way to the Fall Classic win. In the Charger 30 lap feature James Givens of New Kent, VA held off a last lap charge by John Kirby of Sandston, VA to take the Fall Classic win and in the All American 20 lap feature Brett Adkins of Saluda, VA led flag to flag to pick up the Fall Classic victory.

In the Victory Lap Late Model 40 lap feature Anthony Kincaid and Eddie Groome led the field to green with Kincaid leading the first lap. On the next circuit Austin Hubbard drove under Groome for second and one lap later made the same move for the lead over Kincaid.

Once out front Hubbard pulled away to a ten car length advantage. On lap 6 Sommey Lacey got under Groome for third and set out to catch Kincaid with Neil McClanan in tow. With laps winding down Hubbard looked in complete control, that was until lap 25 when his engine expired ending his night.

That handed the lead back to Kincaid with Lacey, Marshall, Mark Parks and Mike Latham the balance of the top five. Kincaid and Lacey put on a show for five laps as they raced side by side trading the lead back and fourth three times. A late caution set up a three lap dash for the win. On the restart Marshall slide under Lacey to take second and then set out for Kincaid.

With one lap remaining Marshall caught Kincaid in turn 3 and drove under Kincaid for the lead with Latham, Parks, McClanan and Kincaid all coming across the line together with Marshall coming away with the victory. Rounding out the top five were Mike Latham (started 11th), Mark Parks (started 13th), Neil McClanan and Anthony Kincaid.

In the New Generation Racing Sprint Car 25 lap feature Chuck Alessi of Middletown, NY and Bobby Mazingo of Pasadena, MD led the 18 car field to the green by virtue of a pill pull. Alessi grab control of the race and led the first circuit with Daren Bolac in close pursuit.

Bolac chased Alessi for the next eight laps looking for a way around; on lap 10 the leaders began working heavy traffic. Alessi went low and Bolac high, the high side was the way to go as Bolac took it three wide to take the lead and rocket away.

With Bolac in the lead the battle was for second between Alessi, Craig Folmar and Randy Kaylor. On lap 16 Bolac began working traffic when on the next circuit the caution came out for a flipping Folmar. On the restart Bolac pulled away from Alessi and the rest of the field but caution would come out for the final time on lap 18 when Tom Humphries hit the wall in turn 2 when something broke on his car.

On the final restart Bolac once again pulled away and cruised on to his career first win in a sprint car.

“This has to rank as my biggest accomplishment, I have to thank my dad for all his help, he is the man,” commented a very emotional Bolac when talking about his dad.

Rounding out the top five were Chuck Alessi, Randy Kaylor, Eric Keck and Bobby Mazingo.

Craig Folmar, by virtue of his taking the green, won the 2007 New Generation Racing Sprint Car Championship. Folmar picked up eight wins out of ten races in route to the championship.

In the Budweiser Modified 30 lap feature 2007 Champion Bret Hamilton and Brandon Galloway led the field to green with Hamilton taking control and leading the first lap with Matt Marshall in close pursuit.

Hamilton kept a three car length advantage as Marshall and Galloway battled for second. That battle would come to an end on lap 5 when Galloway spun trying to get under Marshall in turn 2.

On the restart Hamilton once again sped away to a three car length advantage over Marshall as Eric Erwin and Tommy Shiflet battled for third. Marshall did everything he could to find the right racing groove to catch Hamilton, but Hamilton too strong as he led flag to flag to pick up his fourth Fall Classic victory. Rounding out the top five were Matt Marshall, Eric Erwin, Tommy Shiflet and Lance Grady.

In the Truckin Thunder Sportsman 35 lap feature Walker Arthur and Roger Jamerson led the field to green with Jamerson taking the top spot out of turn 2 to lead the first lap followed by Davis Lipscombe, Walker Arthur and Tim Shelton. While Jamerson pulled away from the field the battle raged for second.

You could throw a blanket over the battle for second as Lipscombe tried to hold off Shelton and Arthur. On lap 9 Shelton took second from Lipscombe and two laps later Arthur took third. On lap 14 Arthur caught Shelton and the battle for second was on again. On lap 16 Arthur took the spot form Shelton. On lap 18 Arthur brought out the caution with a spin in turn 2.

On the restart Jamerson once again pulled away to a full straight lead and cruised to the Fall Classic win. Rounding out the top five were Davis Lipscombe, Tim Shelton, Kenny Moreland and Tommy Upshaw.

In the Charger 25 Lap feature James Givens of New Kent, VA and Tony Qude of Leanardtown, MD led the field to green with Givens getting the advantage out of turn 2. The only challenge Givens would get would be with one to go as John Kirby made a last lap dash to get the lead but Givens held on to lead flag to flag for the Fall Classic victory.

In the All American 20 lap feature Kevin Fletcher of Saluda, VA and Brett Adkins of Saluda, VA led the field to green and Adkins picked up where he left off the week before, dominating the event.
