Winchester Speedway

Taking the Virginia National Pure Stock win was the #50 of Bill Henney. Henney took his outside pole position start to take over the lead at lap 4. The first three laps were led by the #0 of Dale Hollidge who ended up pitside before the end of the race. The first caution fell on lap 1for the #11X of Craig Morgan turning in turn 4. Then by lap 3 the second caution flew for again cars getting together in turn 4. Lap 9 would bring out the 3rd and final caution of the 35 lap race and the top 5 would consist of Henney, Khi Swanger, Dale Hollidge, Mark Jones and Kevin Deremer. By lap 15 Hollidge had went pitside and the T33 of Donnie Kenney was on the move, now moving up to the 3rd spot. With Henney having a substantial lead the real race was between Kenney and Swanger for 2nd and 3rd spot. With the halfway mark coming closer, Henney was looking for a win, and with no more cautions in sight it looked to be a green flag race for the rest of the way. By lap 28 your top five had changed a little with the #45 of Dean Holmes, who started in the 20th position was now up to 5th and gaining ground on everyone in front of him. By lap 35 Henney had the checkered flag in sight and brought home the victory and the prestigious win. Henney also set fast time and a new track record with a time of 17.802. Heat winners from Friday night were Henney, Khi Swanger, Dale Hollidge and Mark Jones. The Consy winner was Pat Hanley. Hard Charger was Dean Holmes.

The 4C division probably had the most exciting night of racing with Roger Whitlock coming from a 21st starting position to take the win.

The race began with a first caution before any laps were run but when the race resumed it was the #38 of Mark Diggs jumping out front from a 3rd position start. Diggs had company however from Kyle Wiser and Eric Ahollenbach and they would be 3 wide on one occasion. By lap 4 the top five would be Diggs, Wiser, Ahollenbach, and Brian Wentzel. By lap 6, Diggs would pull out in front and was all alone till caution #2 when the field would come back together. To start lap 10, Wiser would try the inside but Diggs was just to strong coming off the turn and would retain the lead. By lap 17, Whitlock had caught the attention of the fans and everyone knew he was the car to watch, having moved up to a 5th place spot and looking very strong. With a caution coming out on lap 17, this brought the field in tighter and it would be Whitlocks opportunity to make the move. At the green Whitlock would go high to pass for 3rd place and in 2 laps captured 3rd spot when the 4th caution would fly and now the field would bunch back up again. At lap 20 Whitlock again would go high and pass for 2nd, now Diggs had to contend with Whitlock breathing on his bumper. With 4 more cautions to fly it was at lap 32 after the 7th caution that again Whitlock would use the outside line to capture the lead. With only 3 laps left Whitlock took the lead and led the rest of the way proving that you don't have to start up front to win. Finishing in the top 5 was Roger Whitlock, Mark Diggs, Kyle Wiser, Kevin Thomas and Allen Whitt Jr. Fridays Heat winners were Eric Ahollenbach, Kyle Wiser, Jon Turner, and Mark Diggs. Consy winners were Whitlock and Billy Sonners. Fast time and track record was set by Eric Ahollenbach with a time of 18.771.

The 25 lap open competition for Limited Late Models had Dennis Lamb in victory lane.

Starting on the outside pole, Lamb didn't have far too go to take the lead and was only seriously challenge by the #2B of Brian Buckler and the #01 of Wayne Walls, Jr. With 4 cautions in the feature the top five would be Lamb for the win, Wayne Walls coming in 2nd, Brian Buckler for 3rd, Sean Dawson for 4th and Matt Sponaugle for 5th. Brian Buckler was fast time setter and broke the track record with a time of 16.415. Fridays heat winners were Brian Buckler, Lamb and Richard Walls. Consy winner was Terry Flaherty.

The Super Late Models saw Delray W.V., Gerald Davis in victory lane.

Davis took his outside pole position start to lead every lap of the 25 lap feature and was never seriously challenged. The feature began with Davis taking the lead and the D1 of Bo Feathers sitting on his bumper but with only 3 cautions to contend with the and Feathers spinning on lap 17 the race seemed to all be in Davis favor. The top five at lap 25 was Davis for the win, followed by J.T. Spence, Ronnie Dehaven Jr., Wesley Bonebrake and Nathan Durboraw. Heat winners were Bo Feather, Gerald Davis and Ronnie Dehaven. Consy winner was Tommy Armel. The Winchester Speedway wishes everyone a safe winter and we will see you at the races next year.

The #19 of Steve Casebolt wins the Annual Winchester 200 at the Winchester Speedway.

It was great weather and with a tremendous crowd at the Winchester Speedway, Steve Casebolts night, leading by the fuel stop and never being seriously challenged as he pulled across the checkered flag on the 100th lap to take home the payoff and prestigous win.
Sitting on the pole would be the D1 of Bo Feathers and alongside would be the #41 of Nathan Durboraw. At the drop of the green Feathers and Durboraw would go side by side with Durboraw leading by a nose only to have caution before they could make lap #2. When the 3 cars involved of Wayne Walls Jr., Gary Stuhler and Bubby Dillman got together in turn 4, it would be Durboraw with the lead. At the start, Durboraw would take the green with Feathers on his bumper, they would swamp positions for several more laps till the 2nd caution on lap 13 for the 119M of Chad McClellan would bring the field back together. At this point, Casebolt was on the move, taking his 8th place starting position and moving already to 5th. The third caution would fly at lap 20 for something on the track and with Durboraw still your leader the top five would be Durboraw, Feathers, Ronnie DeHaven, Casebolt and Devin Friese. At lap 23 the 4th caution would fly for the #30 of Allan Brannon. Brannons car came to a stop on the front stretch and he would go pitside. To start lap 24, Durboraw brought the field to the green and they would not see another caution till lap 55. Before that on lap 40, Feather & DeHaven would be side by side racing with Casebolt sneaking up from behind and by lap 44, Casebolt had managed his way to 2nd and now had his eyes and bumper all over Durboraw for the lead. By lap 49 Durboraw & Casebolt had fans on their feet with side by side racing and before the fuel stop at lap 56, Casebolt took over the lead only to have Durboraw go pitside, after the stop, and finish the night with a DNF.

Several cars after refueling would go pitside with mechanical trouble. DJ Myers, Gerald Davis, Denny Bonebrake and Wayne Walls Jr., all taking their cars to the pits. After the fuel stop, the #19 of Casebolt would take the field to the green and by lap 60 your front runners would be Casebolt, DeHaven, Feathers, Booper Bare and Devin Friese. With the top 5 running smooth the real race seemed to be with the #119 of Jimmy Bernheisel. Bernheisel who started 15th ran his way to 7th place at lap 60, then at lap 63 passed 6th place car of Jeremy Miller and at lap 65 passed 5th place of Devin Friese to capture 5th. By lap 62 the final caution would fly for the 13D of Jonathan Dehaven and the #93 of Tony Crim. By lap 70 with only 15 cars left in the feature, Casebolt would still be your leader with Dehaven & Feather following behind. The last 10 laps seemed to be the most impressive with the #90 of Gary Stuhler passing cars right and left to take home a 5th place finish after being involved in the eary caution. At lap 100 Casebolt would come across for the win, followed by Ronnie Dehaven, Jr., Booper Bare, Bo Feathers, Gary Stuhler, Jim Bernheisel, Jeremy Miller, Devin Friese, J.T. Spence, and DJ Myers. Heat race winners went too Durboraw, Ronnie Dehaven, Brent Smith, Devin Friese, Bo Feather and J.T. Spence. The dast went to Bo Feathers. The B Mains went too Tommy Armel and Gerald Davis.
The 25 lap Ninigers Tire and Auto Pure Stocks saw the #20 of Michael Carter in victory lane.

At the start the #20 jumped to the lead with 4th place starter of Dean Holmes jumping to 2nd. A single file start would begin lap #2 and the #20 would lead the way only to have the second caution for the #1 of Sam Jenkins. Again the green would fall but another caution for the stopped car of David Kaiser would bring out the 3rd caution with only 2 lap in the 25 lap feature. At the green the 20 would bring the field to the green and Carter, Holmes and Mike Rose would be running bumper to bumper for the next 10 laps, till the 4th caution would fall for the 07s of Scott Gray turning in turn 4. At the green it would be Carter, Holmes, Rose, Ray Priest and Mark Jones in the top 5 only to have the 5th caution fall. When the flag fell for lap 13, there would only be 4 more laps till the next caution and one more lap after the green would mean one more caution on lap 18 for the #29 of James Gray. The guy on the move would be the T33 of Donnie Kenney who started in 19th spot and was up to 6th and gaining ground every lap. By the time the checkerd flew and 9 caution had fell it would be Michael Carter for the win, with Dean Holmes in 2nd, Mike Rose in 3rd, Mark Jones in 4th and Donnie Kenney coming across 5th. Heat winners were Michael Carter and James Gray Jr. The Hard Charger went to Donnie Kenney.

The Trademaster Drywall 4C division saw the #38 of Mark Diggs in Rickets Construction Victory Lane.

The 25 lap feature saw 16 cars take the green and Diggs who started 4th jumped to the lead before the 2nd lap and led every lap. The first caution fell before a lap was made for 5 cars coming together in turn 2. Then on lap 4 the 2nd caution would fall for the B2 of Dave Mullenax. By lap 6 the top 5 would be Diggs, Allen Whitt, Stacy Crider, Tommy Whitt and Billy Sonners. By lap 8 the #33 of Allen Whitt would try to pass Diggs but just couldn't manage it. On lap 10 the #41 of Scott McCartney would loop it in turn 4 and by lap 12 your 5 would be Diggs, Roger Whitlock moving into 2nd , Billy Sonners coming up to 3rd, Tommy Whitt for 4th and Dave Mullenax for 5th. On lap 12 the 15M of Butch Mayo and the #46 of Graham Smith would come together to bring out caution #5 and on lap 18 the #74 of Tommy Whitt who was running in 4th position would go pitside. At lap 25 the checkered flew and Diggs would come across first followed Whitlock, Sonners, Butch Mayo and Dave Mullenax. Heat winners were Allen Whitt and Dave Mullenax

With a full weekend of racing and beautiful weather the Winchester Speedway saw 89 cars pitside plus 22 ARDC Wingless Midgets for a full night of racing action.

The 25 lap Late Model feature saw the #30 of Allan Brannon taking the checkered. Brannon would lead every lap but it wasn't a easy win for the points leader. Starting on the pole was the #91 of J.T.Spence and at the green, Spence & Brannon would be side by side till a lap 1 caution for the #43 of Tom Decker and the 0s of Mike Steck turning in turns 3&4. Then as the field would come down again for lap 2 the #95, driven by Tony Crim would turn bringing out caution #2. Brannon would again bring the field down to start the race and this time the race would stay caution free till lap 15. With Brannon remaining the leader 4 more cautions would mean only 16 Late Models were left to finish out the feature. Taking advantage of cautions and restarts would be a fast moving Gerald Davis who won the previous night, was hard charging thru the field and by lap 16 Davis had passed for 3rd and lap 20 he would catch J.T. Spence to capture second. However with laps running down, Brannon would take the checkered, Davis finishing 2nd, J.T. Spence 3rd, Mike Hardy 4th and Kris Eaton for fifth. Heat winners were Allen Brannon, Gerald Davis & J.T. Spence. The Consy winner was Mo Hardin. Ernies Salvage Yard Hard Charger also went too Mo Hardin who started 18th and finished in 6th place.
The Pro-Imaging Semi-Late division saw Rob Nichols in victory lane.

The 17 car field saw 2 cautions for the evening. With the #F13 of Jimmy Richards sitting poleside along with the #27 of Kevin Feathers the green flew with Richards leading the first two laps. But by lap 3 the 3rd place starter Rob Nichols would challenge and grab the lead. Nichols would lead the rest of the way to get his second checkered of the season. The top 5 would be Nichols, Brian Buckler, Dennis Lamb, Kris Holliday and Sam Crouch. Heat winners were Sean Dawson and Dennis Lamb.

The Niniger Tire & Auto Pure Stocks saw Mike Bennett in victory lane.

The 22 car field was brought to the green by polesitter Ed Mclellan but taking the lead on lap 1 would be outside polesitter the #0 of David Kaiser. Kaiser would lead the first 4 laps till the first caution for a flat tire of #64, Mike Rose would send him pitside. Then on the start of lap 5 the #29 of James Gray and #55 of Randy Carter would get together bringing out caution #2. On the start again with Mike Bennett running second he would challenge for the lead and take it. Leading laps 5,6,& 7, lap 8 Kaiser would regain the lead for lap 8,9, & 10. On lap 11 Kaiser would slow for what looked like a break which gave the lead again to Mike Bennett. Bennett now would have to hold off the #88 of Ray Priest and by a nose for the win it would be Bennett, Priest for 2nd, Ed Mclellan for third, Matt Kerns 4th and Bobby Franklin 5th. Heat winners were Ray Priest and Donnie Kenney.

The Trademasters Drywall 4 Cylinders saw Delmas Moreland in victory lane.

On the pole was the #88 of Shawn Sturtz to start the 23 car field. Sturtz would lead the lst lap till lap 2 when the #41 of Scott McCartney would pass for the lead and lead for the next six laps. By lap 7 the 12C of Delmas Moreland passed the #41 of Scott McCartney and he would then get sideways and almost collect himself and Mark Diggs but all drivers kept it straight and no caution would fly. By lap 12 it would be Moreland, Tommy Whitt, Randy Linaburg, Greg Keister and Roger Whitlock. On lap 13 the first caution came out for #11 of Linaburg turning in turn 1 & 2. The 2nd caution would come on lap 14. Delmas Moreland would take the green and be challenged by the 2c of Roger Whitlock only for Whitlock to slow and give up his chance for a victory which meant Moreland taking the checkered, Tommy Whitt second, Greg Keister 3rd, Rodney Hoffman 4th and Mark Diggs coming across for 5th. Heat winners were Whitlock and Tommy Whitt.

The ARDC Wingless Midgets winner was the #29 of Zack Martini.

Join us next Saturday, September 15th when the Winchester Speedway will host a four feature program plus the Virginia Sprint Series. This will be the last points race of the season and Saturday night we will be crowning our Champions in each division.

September 9, 2007

Winchester Speedway put on another great night of racing, Friday Sept. 7, with the Late Models taking center stage. The 41 lap Mike Clore Memorial race saw Delray W.V. driver Gerald Davis in victory lane.

Davis took his Lazer Chassis and front row starting position to lead every lap of the very prestigious race. Although the race started off on a bad note with the #17 of Wayne Johnson turning his race car completely over, the rest of the race saw only a couple more cautions which met alot of green flag racing. At lap 10 the 28 led the race with #52 of Wesley Bonebrake, #30 Allan Brannon, the #99 of Mike Hardy and the #91 of J.T. Spence rounding out the top 5. By lap 20 the numbers had stayed the same but the positions had changed with Davis still at the lead and now it would be Bonebrake, Brannon, Spence and Hardy. By lap 30 the #30 had moved into second and making a move for first. With Davis second in the points battle behind Brannon this double points race proved that these two had a battle all their own. Davis kept his Davis Excavating #28 car straight forward to keep the #30 at bay and when the checkered flew at lap 41, it would be Davis for the win, Brannon 2nd, followed by Spence, Bonebrake and Hardy. Heat winners went too Devis Friese, Ronnie Dehaven,Jr., Brian Tavenner and the Consi went too Jeremy Miller. The Hard Charger was Brad Omps.
Dennis Lamb found himself again in victory lane for the Pro-Imaging Semi-Lates.

At the start of the race it would be Scott Sweeney and Sean Dawson leading the way to the green flag. The first caution of the 15 lap feature would come at lap 2 for the #95 of Mitch Miller, then on the start a caution again for the #92 of Sam Crouch. The third caution would again rise for the #95 on lap 3. With Sean Dawson leading the way lap 4 would show Dawson, Scott Sweeney, Dannis Lamb, Kris Holliday and Rob Nichols for the top five. Dawson would find himself leading the entire race till a caution on lap 10 for the #95 of Mitch Miller would bunch racers back together with Lamb now in second. At the green Dawson would hold Lamb off till the last turn when Dawson would get just enough lose to allow Lamb to get enough ground to pass for the win. The top five would be Lamb, Dawson, Scott Sweeney, Kris Holliday and Jimmy Richards. Heat race winners were Dennis Lamb and Brian Buckler.
The Niningers Tire & Auto Pure Stocks saw Michael Carter in victory lane.

The 19 car field started off the show for the evening and pure stocks pulled off a great show. This would make Michael Carters 2nd trip to victory lane. The top 5 would be Michael Carter for the win, Matt Kerns coming home 2nd, Ray Priest placing 3rd, Donnie Kenney for fourth, and Bobby Gladden fifth. Heat winners went too Matt Kerns and Mike Bennett.
The Trademasters Drywall 4 Cylinders saw Roger Whitlock in victory lane.

The 21 car field was a tight race between the 2C of Whitlock, the #38 of Mark Diggs and the #1 of Greg Keister. These three cars were bumper to bumper for the biggest part of the race. The top five went to Whitlock for the victory, Diggs for second, Keister for third, Delmas Moreland fourth and Allen Whitt Jr. for fifth. Heat winners were Scott McCartney and Ed Gageby.

With blue skies all around the Winchester Speedway put on a great show of racing with 92 cars sitting in the pits, plus the cyclones were on hand to put on a show, sponsored by Rose's Plumbing of Strasburg, Va.

Taking the checkered in the Gasoline Alley Late Model division was Brad Omps of Winchester Va.

Omps took his pole position start and led every lap of the 25 lap feature. The Late Models had a hard time with a total of 9 cautions. The first caution came on lap 3 for the 00 of Doug Hardy, 8 of Greg Elrod, and 72 of Roger Jenkins. The second caution would fly on lap 5 for the 8 again turning in turn 4. On the start of lap 5 it would be Omps, Wesley Bonebrake, Jonathan Dehaven, Mike Hardy, and Allan Brannon. The 3rd and 4th cautions would fall on laps 11 & 15 with the #99 of Mike Hardy going pitside. Laps 17 and 18 would bring cautions 5 & 6 and the top five at this point would be Omps, Dehaven, Gerald Davis, Wesley Bonebrake and Allan Brannon. Lap 19 would bring caution #7 for Bonebrake. With laps running closer to an end the top five would change and now it would be Omps, Dehaven, Davis, Wayne Johnson and 12th place starter Tommy Armel. Caution #8 flew on lap 21 for the 4H of Frankie Helmick and caution #9 came when the #15 of Tommy Armel hit the guardrail in turn 1 sending him pitside. As Omps came across the checkered it would be Omps for the win followed by Davis, Dehaven, Johnson and Brannon. Heat winners went too Denny Bonebrake, Davis and Brannon. The Rose's Plumbing Hard Charger went too Scott Merryman who started 22nd and finished 12th.

The Pro-Imaging Semi-Lates saw the #2B of Brian Buckler taking the 25 lap Steve Payne Memorial Race.

At the start of the race it would be the #66 of Don Woodruff bringing the 22 car field to begin the Memorial race. It only took a half lap for Buckler to gain control of the race but with caution #1 coming out on lap 2 the field would come together for another start. At the start Buckler would again take the lead and Bubby Dillman would be second. The second caution would fly on lap 5 for the #6 of Rodney Conner and the 01 of Leon Lloyd. As the green would drop again to start lap 6 Buckler would again gain control of the slick track and his Lazer Chassis was out front and looking good. The next caution wouldn't fly till lap 18 when the #97 of Rob Holmes would go pitside then as the green flew to start lap 19 the #95 of Mitch Miller and the #25C of Butch Chapman Jr. would get together in turns 1 & 2. To start the race the top five would be Buckler, Sean Dawson, Dennis Lamb, Bubby Dillman and Chris Clark. The last caution fell on lap 23 and with two laps to go Buckler took the start of the 24th lap and came across the checkered to claim his 4th victory of the season and the first Steve Payne Memorial Race. Coming across behind Buckler was Dawson, Lamb, Dillman and Clark. Heat winners was Lamb and Kris Holliday.

The Ninigers Tire & Auto Pure Stocks saw the #20 of Matt Kerns in victory lane.

Kerns led every lap of the 15 lap feature but not without a strong racing battle between him and Jimmy Wilson. As the cars took the green flag Wilson and Kerns would go bumper to bumper for several laps with Wilson going inside to try and take the lead, but Kerns would come out on top at every lap. By lap 10 Kerns would now have to contend with the T33 of Donnie Kenney and by lap 13 the 2nd caution of the feature would fly when officials apparently saw Wilson make contact with Kenney and sent Wilson to the rear of the field. This made the top five of Kerns, Kenney, Mike Rose, Mike Bennett and Ray Priest. These guys would now have only 2 laps to try and run down Kerns for the win. But in the end and at the checkered Kerns would come out on top, followed by Kenney, Rose, Bennett and Priest. Heat winners were Wilson, Kerns and Kenney.

The first of two 10 lap feature events for the Trademasters Drywall 4 Cylinders went too Vance Williams

Williams who was driving the #41 took advantage of an early crash on turn 2, which caused a red flag stop, involving 7 cars, most of which had started in the top 10. With no laps completed it made a complete and new restart. Williams who was scheduled to start 11th would now start in 6th position. On the start the #41 would immediately jump to the second position with Greg Keister taking the lead, but by the next lap Williams came out in front and never looked back. By the time the 19 car field got the halfway flag, it would be Williams, Keister, Whitlock, Sonners and Diggs. But by checkered flag time the names would stay the same, but the positions would change. Coming across after the checkered was Williams for the win, Roger Whitlock finishing 2nd, followed by Greg Keister, Mark Diggs and Billy Sonners. Heat winners went too Williams and Allen Whitt Jr.
The second 10 lap 4 Cylinder feature saw the #74 of Tommy Whitt in victory lane.

The feature went caution free which meant a geat green flag race from start to finish. The only spin was the 00 of Billy Sonners, who spun a complete spin out near the backstretch but kept on going, great driving by Sonners. Whitt took his outside pole position to lead every lap, and kept a hard charging Mark Diggs at bay. The top five in the second 10 lap feature was Tommy Whitt for the win, Mark Diggs coming across second, Vance Williams, Delmas Moreland and Roger Whitlock.

The first of two 10 lap features for the Cyclones saw General Manager Danny Wilson in victory lane. Wilson took the lead on lap 7 and led the rest of the way. In victory lane Wilson, who seemed to be out of breath, stated that he would have to get back in shape if he planned to race again. Heat winners were Dillan Stake, Ronnie Bloom nad Brett Cessna

The 2nd 10 lap Cyclone feature saw Danny Wilson again with the win. The first half of the race was led by the #98 Nick Bloom but a spin in turns 1 & 2 on lap 6 made him give up that lead to the #7 of Brett Cessna. On the start of lap 6 the #7 lead for 1/2 a lap till the #1 of Danny Wilson took over the lead and led the rest of the way. The top 5 was Willson, Cessna, Bloom, Stake and Jimmy Staton.
Join us Friday September 7 for the Mike Clore make-up 41 lap LM feature plus PS, SL, and 4C, then racing again in all divisions on Saturday Sept. 8 plus the ARDC Wingless Midgets, sponsored by Minnicks Auto Repair & Towing of Winchester Va.

The Winchester Speedway had great weather and great racing to a nearly full grandstand armed with hungry race fans.

Making the winners circle after a long dry spell would be Delray, W.V. driver, Gerald Davis. Davis who started in the 7th position wasted no time making his way through the field because by lap 5 he was up to 3rd spot and by lap 9 he had made the pass for 1st, taking it away from the polesitter Walter Crouch. With a total of 8 cautions in the 25 lap feature, drivers were having a hard time getting a handle on the track. The first caution flew when the #93 of Tony Crim turned it around with no laps completed. Then on lap 1 the #8 of Greg Elrod would bring out caution #2. The second lap would bring out caution #3 for the 88 of Andy Anderson. At this point, Crouch would be your leader with Brad Omps and Davis following close behind. The 4th and 5th cautions would both fly on lap 9 with Davis taking over the lead. By lap 12 the real battle on the track would be for 4th through 8th place with Wayne Johnson, Wesley Bonebrake, Allan Brannon, Tommy Armel and Devin Friese, all riding bumper to bumper. At lap 14 the 7th caution would fly for Louie Littlepage and Moe Harden, then the 8th and final caution would fall for 3 cars getting collected in turns 3 & 4. The final 3 laps proved to be the most exciting with Davis & Crouch battling it out and doing side by side racing with Davis coming across by 1/2 a car length to take home the checkered. This would be Davis first win of the 07 season and the 12th different winner so far in the Late Model Division. The top five finishers would be Davis, Crouch, Brad Omps, Tommy Armel, and Wayne Johnson. Heat winners were Allan Brannon and Devin Friese.

The Pro-Imaging Semi-Late division saw 2nd time winner Jeff Sweeney in victory lane. Sweeney who started in 3rd position would take over the lead at lap 3. The first two laps were led by the #3 of Bubby Tharp Jr. A total of 3 cautions in the race started with lap #1 and a backstretch crash that would collect a total of 5 cars including Scott Sweeney, Jimmy Richards, C.J. Brown, Sam Crouch and Bubby Dillman. On the restart of the race Tharp would carry the 14 car field to the green only to have a second caution on lap 2. With Sweeney looking at Tharps rear bumper, lap 3 would prove that Sweeney had the car to beat. By lap 7 the top five would be Sweeney, Brian Buckler, Tharp, Dennis Lamb and Kris Holliday. With Sweeney out front and looking for his second win of the season, the real battle was for positions 2 and 3 between Buckler & Lamb. The battle had the crowd on its feet as they cheered for Buckler who would cross the line in second with Lamb having to settle for third. The top 5 in the 15 lap feature would be Sweeney, Buckler, Lamb, Holliday and Tharp. Heat winners were Jimmy Richards and Bubby Dillman.

The Ninigers Tire & Auto Pure Stock division saw the #20 of Matt Kerns coming across the checkered first. Kerns who started on the pole would lead every lap of the 15 lap feature which had a total of 4 cautions. The first caution was caused when the #7 of Jason Stahl would turn in turn 2 then on the restart the 2nd caution would again fly with no laps completed for the 31A of Andy Atkins, smacking the wall on the backstretch. When the race resumed Kerns would be battling with 2nd place Bryan Kerns and by lap 5 Matt Kerns would carry a substantial lead but 2nd through 5th place would be battling it out for positions. These drivers included Bryan Kerns, Mike Rose, Michael Carter, and Bobby Franklin. With only 5 laps left and Kerns continuing to widen his lead the 4th and final caution would drop on lap 11, bunching cars back together for a 4 lap sprint to the checkered. Taking the checkered and the win would be Matt Kerns, with Bryan Kerns, Michael Carter, Mike Rose and Donnie Kenney rounding out the top five. Heat winners went too Bobby Franklin, Bryan Kerns, and Donnie Kenney.

The Trademasters Drywall 4 Cyl. saw Roger Whitlock in victory lane. Whitlock who started on the pole would lead every lap of the 15 lap feature. With only 2 laps into the race the first caution fell for the #74 of Tommy Whitt in turn 2. On the restart the 2nd caution would fly for the #140 of Steve Affleck. By lap 5 Whitlock would have the lead with Mark Diggs a close second, Delmas Moreland 3rd, Billy Sonners 4th and Greg Keister 5th. By lap 7 Whitlock and Diggs would have fans on the edge of their seats with what looked like a hard battle to the end. By lap 12 the 3rd and final caution would fly for the 88 of William Riley and this would give Diggs one last attempt at catching Whitlock for the win. On the start Diggs would try the inside but Whitlock wasn't giving up easily and came off the turn first still hanging onto the lead and eventually the checkered. At lap 15 Whitlock would come across first with Diggs, Moreland, Keister, and Sonners to finish out the top 5. Heat winners were Diggs and Moreland.

The Outlaw Go-Karts feature saw the #7 of Matt Hilderbrand taking the checkered with Tony Crosby, Cody Allebaugh, Wayne Falls, Chad Allecaugh, Ted Wismann and David Kaiser finishing out the field of 7 cars.

Next Saturday, Aug 18 the Winchester Speedway will be featuring the Summer Championship for the 4C division plus a regular show for LM, SL, and PS, sponsored by Gary's Excavating of Capon Bridge, W.V.

The Winchester Speedway saw another great night of dirt racing action with a slick track and five features it was one not too miss.
Taking home the checkered flag in the 25 lap Gasoline Alley Late Model division was current point leader, Allan Brannon. Brannon started 10th, but made good use of every lap because by lap 13 he was already up to 4th position. Polesitter Walter Crouch had a excellent run, leading every lap but the last one and coming across second. When the 25 lap feature took the green the first of six cautions would fly on lap 1 for Chuck Clise, Ryan Hackett and Randy Smith. All three would go pitside with Hackett being the only to come back out and finish the race. With Crouch leading the way the 2nd caution fell on lap 10 for the #8 of Greg Elrod. At this point, Crouch, Wayne Walls Jr., Devin Friese and Gerald Davis would round out the top four. At the drop of the green flag the #12 of Friese would go outside to make the pass for second but couldn't quite complete the pass. By lap 15 another caution involving several more cars in turns 1 & 2 then by lap 17 saw caution #5 involving Scott Merryman and Brent Hottle. At the green the 30 of Allan Brannon who was now running third goes outside, with Walls coming as well but when cars got sideways and a 6 car pile up would bring out caution #6, collecting second place, Wayne Walls. Now the top five would be Crouch, Brannon, Davis, Kenny Shipley and 12th place started Tommy Armel. At the drop of the green Brannon would go outside and run side by side with Crouch for the remainder of the 25 laps with Brannon just barely catching Crouch on the last lap and taking the win. Heat winners went too Davis, Friese and Walls, while the consy winner went too Wayne Johnson.

The Pro-Imaging Semi-Late division saw Dennis Lamb in Rickets Construction Victory Lane.
Lamb took his pole position start in the 15 lap feature and led every lap with 6 cautions and 17 cars taking the green. The first caution fell on lap 1 for Butch Chapman & Kris Holliday, with both cars being able to hook on the rear of the field and continue. As the green flew, Lamb would gain some ground on 2nd place Bubby Dillman till caution #2 fell on lap 3 for Jimmy Richard and Bubby Tharp Jr. Now the top five would be Lamb, Dillman, Jeff Sweeney, Scott Sweeney and Brian Buckler. Cautions # 3 & 4 would fall on laps 6 & 7 for Chapman and Mitch Miller. As the green flew to start lap 8, Buckler would grab 3rd, now making a serious challenge for the win. The 6th and final caution would fall on lap 13 for the #88 of Kris Holliday and with only 2 laps left Dillman and Buckler was running out of time to catch Lamb. When the checkered flew Lamb would take the win, Buckler second, Dillman third, Scott Sweeney with a great run came across 4th and 12th place starter and previous winner Rob Nichols would come across fifth. Heat winners went too Dillman and Nichols.

The Ninigers Tire & Auto Center Pure Stocks saw Donnie Kenney in victory lane. On the start, Kenney took his pole position to full advantage and grabbed the lead but by lap 3 the first caution would come out for the #83 of Brad Strawderman. On the start of lap 3 they would only take 2 more laps before another caution for Strawderman again would bring out the yellow. By lap 5, Kenney had a car length lead with Mike Rose, Kevin Deremer and Mike Bennett fighting for positions 2, 3, and 4. When cautions #4 fell on lap 7 the #20 of Matt Kerns was charging for the lead but on lap 7 the fifth caution on the back stretch would eliminate Ricky Edmonds and Brad Riley with both going pitside. At the green again Kenney would lead the way and Kevin Deremer would pass for second place on lap 10 to now challenge for the lead. The last and final caution fell on lap 13 but with this, came a 2 lap sprint for Kenney, Deremer and Kerns who battled it out till the end with Kenney taking the win, Kerns coming across second, Deremer third, Mike Bennett fourth and Mike Rose, fifth.

Heat winners went too Matt Kerns and Mike Bennett.

The Trademasters Drywall 4 Cyl. Division saw a first-timer in victory lane with Tommy Whitt taking his first ever checkered.
Pole-sitter Steve Affleck started off the race but outside pole sitter Ed Gageby would take the lead and led for the first 3 laps only to be outrun by fifth place starter Billy Sonners. By lap 4 Sonners would hold the lead but position 2 thru 4 would be bumper to bumper between Gageby, Rodney Hoffman, Whitlock and Allen Whitt Jr. By lap 6 Sonner would still hold the lead but now Hoffman moved into 2nd, Tommy Whitt who started 8th was on the charge for 3rd and Gageby in 4th. By lap 9 the second caution would fall taking out the 2c of Whitlock and on the restart Tommy Whitt must have seen black & white checkered in his eyes because he took over the lead at lap 10 and was out front and looking good. With just 2 laps to go the top 4 running cars were now side by side, which included Whitt, Greg Keister who started 12th, Mark Diggs and Sonners. With only 1 lap left the last caution would fall, and now it would be green, checkered with Whitt taking the win followed by Keister, Diggs, Sonners and Allen Whitt Jr. fininshing out the top five. Heat winners went too Diggs and Delmas Moreland.
The Classic Cars saw the #21 of Kurt Welsh lead every lap in the 20 lap feature to take the win. With only 3 cautions in the race, the 15 car field would ride bumper to bumper to try to claim the ultimate victory of taking home the trophy. The number 9 of Brian Diehl would be the only serious challenger for the lead and would come home second. Third place went too Joe Snodgrass, fourth went too Jack Yiugling and 5th went too Al Daniels. Heat race winners were Bill Brown, Sr., and Kurt Welsh.
Join us Sat. night, Aug. 11 for a regular show of LM, SL, PS & 4C plus the "Outlaw Go-Karts", will be on hand, sponsored by Purcellville Motors & Mobility Equipment of Purcellville, Va.
