FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE---THANK YOU
NAPA AUTO PARTS READING RACING REUNION & CAR SHOW ENDS SUCCESSFUL WEEK LONG RUN
AT FAIRGROUNDS SQUARE MALL
The 23rd Annual NAPA Auto Parts Reading Racing Reunion & Car Show ended a very
successful week long run at the Fairgrounds Square Mall in Reading, PA.
One-hundred and twenty-six race cars representing numerous divisions of short
track racing filled the Mall walkway and the walls were literally bulging. Mall
walker traffic was very strong all week, but especially on the Sunday opening
day as well as Saturday's final day of the show. The Friday night Legend's
Reunion was another well attended event with more then twenty-five drivers
attending despite the forecast of heavy snowfall. Popular URC Sprint
driver Glenn Fitzcharles was acknowledged for his soon to be induction into the
National Sprint Car Hall of Fame, located in Knoxville, Iowa. Sprint car drivers
Smokey Snellbaker and Van May were the guests of honor for their numerous
contributions to the sport. Snellbaker and May were two drivers that
competed in the thrilling 410 sprint shows that took place in the 1970's at the
Reading Fairgrounds Speedway. Both Snellbaker and May were huge hits with the
crowd and both drivers were emotionally moved for the
acknowledgement.
Numerous celebrity interviews took place during the show, including a huge
turnout by ARDC drivers on Wednesday night. Also, noted car owner Chad Sinon
took time for an interview with URC sprint driver Chris Coyle. The BPG colors,
number and well recognized name of Chad Sinon will enter the doors of URC when
their sixty-first season opens at the Bridgeport Speedway on Saturday night,
April 12. Sinon recently announced his sponsorship support Wilmington, DE driver
Chris Coyle as they chase the coveted URC Championship crown in 2008.
At the Lee Myles sponsored BASH Racing Movie Party, the car show awards were
presented. The Best Appearing Go Kart Award went to the #59 of Dakota Kohler as
B.J. Antonio's #46 earned the Best Appearing Quarter Midget. The Best Appearing
Small Car Award went to the Legend #16 driven by Tom Mayberry Jr. Winner of the
Best Appearing Micro Sprint was the #54 of Fred Bitner. The Steve Hicks #USA 1
was the winner of the Best Appearing Open Cockpit car as the Kyle Merkel #117
took top honors as Best Appearing Late Model. In the modified class, the Jon

in purchasing a Program Book or T-shirt may contact Joe Wylezik at
jhwcuda@verizon.net.
With the success of this years events, show organizers Bob and Donna Miller are
already thinking about their plans for 2009. At the Friday night Legend's
Reunion, Miller announced that he will put strong effort into bringing driver
Dave Kelly to the show next year. Kelly, a standout in the URC sprints, also
holds the honor of winning the final race ever presented at the Reading
Fairgrounds Speedway. Sad but true, 2009 will be the thirty year anniversary
since the final race at Reading. "Having Dave Kelly return to the Fairgrounds
would be a fitting tribute and certainly highlight to join the long list of
drivers who were honored over the years.
The race car Mall Show tour continues as the Phillipsburg Mall in Phillipsburg,
NJ will play host to the first ever IRCO DIRT Track Heroes Car Show that will
open on Sunday, March 9 and continue through aturday, March 15. Opening
