Walker Arthur the show in taking Round 1 Victory Lap Late
Model $25,000 Challenge Victory at Virginia Motor Speedway
Jamaica, VA – There are easier ways to win a race, Walker Arthur of Forest, VA
decided to do it the hard way on way to victory in Round 1 of the Victory Lap
Late Model $25,000 Challenge presented by BB&T at Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor
Speedway. After taking the lead on lap 2, Arthur suffered a right rear flat on
lap 5 sending him to the rear. Arthur worked the traffic to perfection and
retook the top spot on lap 26 of the 40 lap affair. Arthur went on to take the
victory and is now eligible for a $25,000 bonus should he be able to sweep the
four race series.
“The competitors here are the best in the business so to do what we did tonight
really shows how well the car was working tonight. This track is awesome, you
could run anywhere on it. We are going to do our best to take all four wins in
this series, no one deserves to win the $25,000 more than my dad,” commented
Arthur in victory lane.
Rounding out the top five were Austin Hubbard, Stevie Long, Sommey Lacey Jr. and
Anthony Kincaid. Ben Bowie picked up the Thurston Spring Service Dirt Series
Rookie of the Race Award with a sixth place finish.
In other action Daren Bolac of Moyock, NC cruised to his second New Generation
Racing Sprint Car win in as many races. In the Truckin Thunder Sportsman 25 lap
feature Tim Shelton took the lead on lap 2 and never looked back to take his
second win in a row and in the Limited Stock Car 20 lap feature Wayne Suite of
Mechanicsville, MD picked up his first victory at Virginia Motor Speedway.
Stephen Evans and Donnie Marshall led the field to green with Evans taking
control of the top spot out of turn 2. On the following circuit Walker Arthur
drove inside Evans to take the lead out of turn 2. Once out front Arthur began
to pull away. On lap 5 the races second caution would come out when Brandon Long
lost a drive shaft. That’s when things went wrong for Arthur as he ran over the
drive shaft sending him to pit road with a flat right rear tire, relegating him
to the rear of the field.
On the restart Evans lead Tom Cohick, Matt Morgan, Brett Royal, Austin Hubbard
and the rest of the field back into turn 1. On lap 6 the battle was for 6th as
Ben Bowie and Sommey Lacey Jr. went at it door to door. On lap 8 the battle for
the lead heated up as Cohick drove inside Evans in Turn 2 to challenge for the
top spot. The two raced side by side until Cohick took the top spot on lap 10.
On lap 11 Morgan drove under Evans in turn 1 to take second and set out to catch
Cohick. A caution on lap 12 tightened the field up once again and on the restart
Morgan challenged Cohick for the top spot with Cohick holding on to the top
spot.
Behind the leaders Arthur had worked his way back to eighth using the top side
to works his way back to the front. On lap 12 restart Morgan got under Cohick in
turn 1, the two raced side by side back to the line with Cohick barely holding
on to the lead.
On lap 14 the battle for the lead got exciting in turn 2 with Cohick, Morgan and
Stevie Long exiting three wide with Morgan coming out with the lead followed by
Long. Cohick pressing hard brought out the next caution when he spun in turn 4
collecting several cars and ending his night.
On the restart all eyes were on Arthur who lurked in sixth. With Morgan in
control on lap 19 the battle for fourth heated up as Ben Bowie, Eddie Groome and
Arthur wrestled for the spot with Arthur emerging the victor. On lap 24 Arthur
rocketed around the outside of Lacey for 3rd and then after Long taking second
on the following circuit.
On lap 26 Morgan brought out the caution while leading with a spin in turn 4.
Long had gotten back under Arthur only to be relegated him to second. On the
restart Arthur began to pull away as the battle for fourth got three wide with
Anthony Kincaid, Ben Bowie and Austin Hubbard. Hubbard emerged with the spot as
Arthur continued to hold the slim lead.
The races final caution came on lap 38 setting up a green, white, checkered
finish. On the restart Arthur got a great start with Hubbard working the high
side to perfection taking third from Lacey and then second from Long heading to
the white flag. Arthur had enough to hold off Hubbard to take the round one
victory to set himself up for a $25,000 bonus.
In the new Generation Racing Sprint Car 25 lap feature it took several tries to
get the feature started with Brett Blose and Eric Keck leading the field to
green the first time. When it was all said and done Daren Bolac emerged with the
lead and Craig Folmar sprinting to second.
Bolac pulled away from the battle for second as Tom Humphries took the spot from
Folmar out of turn four on lap 8. At the halfway point Bolac had a straight away
lead as Folmar retook second from Humphries. But it was Bolac on cruise control
taking his second win in as many races. Rounding out the top five were Craig
Folmar, Tommy Humphries, Mary Ann Williams and Tyler Shipp. Brent Bordeaux
picked up the Thurston Spring Service Dirt Series Rookie of the Race Award with
a seventh place finish.
In the Truckin Thunder Sportsman 25 lap feature Stephen Childress and Okey Synan
Jr. led the field to green. It didn’t take long for Tim Shelton to get to the
front as he took the lead from Childress on the next circuit.
On the restart Shelton pulled away as Roger Jamerson began to pressure Kenny
Moreland for second. On lap 12 Jamerson took the spot with an inside move in
turn 2. Moreland continued to work the outside of Jamerson trying to retake
second. On lap 18 the two got together in turn 4 bringing out the caution and
sending both drivers to the rear of the field.
With Shelton in control the battle for second between Synan and Tony Wood began
to heat up. Shelton cruised to victory with Okey Synan jr. holding off Tony Wood
for second. Rounding out the top five were J.R. guy and Taylor Doggett.
In the Limited Stock Car 20 lap feature Brett Adkins and Wayne Suite Sr. led the
field to green with Adkins take the top spot out of turn 2. Adkins held on to
the top spot with Suite and Kevin Fletcher battling for second. Caution came out
on lap 4 for a wreck on the front stretch, Adkins then pulled on pit road with
mechanical problems handing the lead over to Suite. On the restart Bob Terry
went to third working his way around Ryan Toole for the spot.
Suite dominated the remaining laps as Stephen Childress and Toole battled for
second back to the checkers with Suite taking his first win at Virginia Motor
Speedway. Rounding out the top five were Stephen Childress, Ryan Toole, Bobby
Shreves and Lee Oldaker. Bobby Shreves picked up the Thurston Spring Service
Dirt Series Rookie of the Race Award with his fourth place finish.

Jeremy Miller Picks up First World of Outlaws Victory in
Rumble on the River 4 at Virginia Motor Speedway
Jamaica, VA – Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway has always been good to
Jeremy Miller of Gettysburg, PA, with multiple $10,000 to win victories at the ½
mile speed plant in Jamaica, VA will ever compare to getting his first World of
Outlaws victory in the Rumble on the River 4.
Billy Moyer of Batesville, AR came into the evening’s event as the hottest
driver on the circuit, capturing three wins in a row. Early on in the 50 lap
affair it looked as if Moyer was going to cruise to a fourth win. Miller had
other ideas. The races first caution came out for a spinning Chub Frank as he
raced Miller and defending Champion Steve Francis for second.
On the lap 14 restart Miller stayed right with Moyer and began to move around to
find the way around the leader. Several tries were turned back by Moyer as
Francis lay in waiting.
At the halfway point Moyer held a slim car length advantage over Miller. Behind
the leaders the action was fierce as Shane Clanton, Clint Smith and Josh
Richards battled for fourth through sixth.
On lap 33 Miller made his move to the inside of Moyer coming out of turn 2 and
finished the pass at the line taking over the top spot. Moyer was determined to
get the lead back and wrestled the lead back on lap 35. Miller just as
determined worked back to the inside with Francis joining in on the battle for
the lead.
Once out front Miller began to pull away from the battle between Moyer and
Francis for second. Francis finally got inside Moyer on lap 42 to take second.
On lap 44 Miller began working heavy traffic, allowing Francis and Moyer to
close in. On lap 45 the races final caution came out for Moyer, who shredded a
left rear tire relegating him to pit road for repairs.
On the races final restart Miller got a great restart pulling two car lengths as
the field headed back into turn 1 for the final five laps. With the fans on
there feet and cheering him on Miller cruised to his first World of Outlaws Late
Model feature win.
“What a feeling, this track has been so good to me in the past but to get our
first Outlaws victory here at Virginia Motor Speedway makes this extra special.
What a track, you could run anywhere on it, I have to tip my hat to the staff
for providing such a great track,” commented a very excited Miller in victory
lane.
Rounding out the top five were Steve Francis, Josh Richards, Clint Smith and
Shane Clanton.
In other action Matt Marshall of Stuarts Draft, VA led flag to flag, holding off
Bret Hamilton of Powhatan, VA on a caution and checkers finish picking up his
second win in as many races. Marshall dominated the first 23 laps of the event
only to have caution fall with two to go setting up a two lap dash for the
victory. On the restart Marshall held Hamilton at bay, but Hamilton kept the
pressure on and was working inside Marshall for the lead win the caution fell
for the last time necessitating a yellow and checkers finish.
Rounding out the top five were Bret Hamilton, Page Harrison, Wayne Taylor and
Josh Harris. Matt Marshall also picked up the Thurston Spring Service Rookie of
the Race Award with his victory.
In the Truckin Thunder Sportsman 25 lap finale Kenny Moreland jumped out to the
lead with Tim Shelton and Roger Jamerson following to second and third. With
Moreland in control Shelton worked to hold off Jamerson as the two raced for
second. On lap 3 Jamerson spun to bring out the caution, sending him to the rear
of the field.
Another quick caution reset the field again with Moreland leading Shelton back
to the green, this time Shelton dove to the inside of the young driver,
wrestling the top spot away out of turn 2. Once out front Shelton remained in
control, picking up the victory by almost two second over the rest of the field.
Rounding out the top five were Roger Jamerson, Kenny Moreland, Stephen Childress
and J.R. Guy. Stephen Childress picked up the Thurston Spring Service Rookie of
the Race Award with his fourth place finish.
Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway returns to action Saturday April 19th and
will host Round 1 of the Victory Lap Late Model $25,000 Challenge presented by
BB&T. The four race series will once again offer a bonus program for multiple
wins. The Victory Lap Late Model $25,000 Challenge will pay a $5,000 bonus to
anyone winning two of the four events; it goes to $15,000 if a driver can win
three of four events; and finally, if a driver sweeps all four events that

Staton, Marshall, Bolac and Adkins Pick Up Opening Night
Victories at Virginia Motor Speedway
Jamaica, VA – The only thing cold during opening night events at Bill Sawyer’s
Virginia Motor Speedway were the temperatures as the action on the track was red
hot.
In the Victory Lap Late Model division the night started off with Matt Morgan of
Hughesville, MD besting the track record held by Austin Hubbard with a lap of
18.419 seconds. Brian Staton of Chesapeake, VA then took home the victory in the
black and blue 35 lap feature. In the New Generation Racing Sprint Car 25 lap
feature Daren Bolac of Moyock, NC dominated to take home the victory. In the
Budweiser Modified 25 lap feature rookie Matt Marshall of Stuarts Draft, VA used
an outside pass on Bret Hamilton to take command of the lead and then held off a
determined Eric Erwin for his first win. And in the Limited Stock Car division
Bret Adkins of Gloucester, VA not only set a new track record but also raced
from sixth to take the first ever division win.
The Victory Lap Late Model 35 lap feature was not for the faint of heart as the
top five went out it tooth and nail. Ben Bowie of Brandywine, MD and Neil
McClanan of Moyock, NC led the field to green. Very quickly McClanan and Walker
Arthur went to beating on each other for the top spot. The two got together and
slowed allowing Matt Morgan to take the lead with Brain Staton in tow.
The races first caution would come out on lap 4 when McClanan came to a stop in
turn1. On the restart Staton powered past Morgan for the lead. Morgan would fall
out on lap 7, ending his night, one that started with a new track record.
Caution would fall once again on lap 8 when Brandon Long and Dave Savage got
together in turn 2. On the restart Ronald Cusic slid under Staton heading into
turn 1 to grab the lead out of turn 2. On lap 16 Staton got back under Cusic as
the two got together out of turn 2 sending Cusic spinning down the back stretch
bringing out the races fourth caution.
On the restart Staton pulled away as Arthur and Long battle for second. Heading
to the checkers the battle on the track was for fifth as Bowie battled to keep
Chris Stacy and Anthony Kincaid behind him. Staton held on to pick up the
victory over Walker Arthur by .951 seconds.
“Great Car, great tire and great track, they really got it right, this is going
to be an awesome season,” commented Staton in victory lane.
Rounding out the top five were Stevie Long, Donnie Marshall Jr. and Ben Bowie.
Bowie also picked up the Thurston Spring Service Rookie of the Race Award with
his fifth place finish.
In the New Generation Racing Sprint Car 25 lap feature Daren Bolac of Moyock, NC
and Tyler Shipp of Mechanicsville, VA led the field to green only to have the
caution come out with Brian Lawson and Kevin Atkins getting together in turn 2.
On the restart Bolac pulled away as defending champion Craig Folmar slowed and
pulled in the pits with mechanical issues. Caution would come out again on lap 2
this time when Eric Green ended up in the turn 4 wall. On the restart Bolac once
again got a great jump on Shipp with Eric Keck, Matt Stambaugh and Mary Anne
Williams in tow.
On lap 19 Williams battled Stambaugh for fourth taking the spot at the line.
Bolac dominated the remaining laps to take home the victory over Shipp by 2.739
seconds. Rounding out the top five were Eric Keck, Mary Anne Williams and Matt
Stambaugh. Shipp would be found light at the scales. Brent Bordeaux picked up
the Thurston Spring Service Rookie of the Race Award with a fifth place finish.
The Budweiser Modified 25 lap feature lived up to all the billing with 26 cars
taking the green to put on one of the best races of the night. Lance Grady and
Bill Roberts led the field to green with Roberts taking control for the first
four laps before Bret Hamilton worked inside Roberts for the lead on lap 5.
Behind Hamilton the race for third was three wide with Matt Marshall, Eric Erwin
and fast qualifier Brandon Galloway. Marshall emerged with the spot and quickly
went after Roberts for second. By lap 11 Marshall was working the high side to
perfection and began to gain on Hamilton. On lap 12 Marshall finally pulled his
#18 Hamilton Chassis door to door with Hamilton out of turn 4 and then rocketed
around Hamilton for the lead. On the lap 16 restart Hamilton and Erwin both
tried to take the lead from Marshall, going three wide down the backstretch.
Marshall held on to the lead with Hamilton holding onto second.
Marshall kept his car on the high side and out in front by two car lengths until
caution fell again on lap 23. On the restart Erwin got under Marshall only to
have caution fall again. On the races final restart Marshall had just enough to
take home his first ever victory at Virginia Motor Speedway. Rounding out the
top five were Eric Erwin, Brandon Galloway, Mark Schools and Josh Harris.
Marshall also picked up the Thurston Spring Service Rookie of the Race Award
with his victory.
In the Limited Stock Car 20 lap finale Marty Coltrain and Scotty Nelson led the
field to green and a three wide battle for the lead. Coltrain emerged as the
leader with Bob Terry, Nelson, James Givens and Brett Adkins the balance of the
top five. On lap 3 Terry worked inside Coltrain for the lead with Nelson
following to second.
On lap 7 Terry, Adkins, Nelson, Wayne Suite and Givens all raced in a tight pack
for the lead. On lap 8 Adkins worked inside Terry to take the lead and control
of the feature. On lap 11 Suite worked under Nelson and Terry in a three wide
battle for second. The races last caution came out on lap 18 for a wreck in turn
2. On the restart Suite tried to the inside of Adkins only to have the door
slammed in his face and also have caution come out for a big crash on the back
stretch. Following behind Adkins were Wayne Suite, Bob Terry, Scott Nelson and
Wesley Givens. Brett Adkins also picked up the Thurston Spring Service Rookie of
the Race Award with his win.
It wasn’t a great night for defending champions as Craig Folmar (Sprint Cars),
Bret Hamilton (Modifieds) and Austin Hubbard (Late Models) all exited early due
to mechanical problems.
Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway returns to action Saturday April 5th and
will host Thurston Spring Service Dirt Series Night at the Races featuring four
divisions of FAST FAMILY FUN. See the Victory Lap Late Models, Truckin Thunder
