By: Gene Ostrowski

March 18, 2012

St. Johns, Pa- Above normal temperatures in late winter have Mountain Speedway drivers, management and fans excited about the start of the 2012 season at the 1/3-mile asphalt oval. Two practice dates will start the new season and give racers the opportunity to test his or her cars to hopefully find the prime set up for opening day.

The first practice date is slated for Sunday, April 1st and the second is scheduled for the following Saturday, April 7th. Any type of car that competes during the regular season at the speedway is welcome to take advantage of the practice time, and if the weather continues to bless the racing community like it has, it should be a great time for folks to come out to get their short track racing fix.

The pit fee for practice will be announced on the speedway website and the grandstand admission for practice dates is free for all ages.

Two opening weekends of action are slated with points paying time trials on Saturdays, followed with feature events on Sundays. Mountain Madness Enduro Series events are also on the card and will accompany the time trial events both Saturdays.

The first weekend of action is scheduled for Saturday, April 14 with time trials for the Sport Modifieds, Late Models and Factory Stocks, plus a 100-lap 6/8-cylinder car enduro is scheduled. With a cone style race format, feature events for the Sport Modifieds, Late Models and Factory Stocks will take place on Sunday, April 11. The INEX Legends and Bandoleros are also on the card for the Sunday afternoon show.

The second weekend of action is scheduled for Saturday, April 21 with time trials for the Tour Type Modifieds, Street Stocks and 4-Cylinder Stocks. A 100-lap four-cylinder car enduro is planned for the afternoon. Following the cone style format, the feature events for the Tour Type Modifieds, Street Stocks and 4-Cylinder Stocks will be held on Sunday, April 22. The INEX Legends and Bandoleros are also on the card for the Sunday afternoon show.

All of the divisional rules have been released for this season and drivers are working hard to be prepared for what will hopefully be a great season for them at Mountain Speedway.

Mountain Speedway is just minutes from Hazleton, Pa, located on St. John’s Road, between Routes 93 and 309. Grandstand admission for all regular events is just $12 for ages 11 and older. Children 10 years of age and younger are admitted for free.

Eckert, Bieber, Dixon Grab Kahuna Checkers

The first race of the 2012 Big Kahuna Series at Path Valley had quite the drama in the late laps of the SpeedSTR and late model races as Rick Eckert and George Dixon,Jr. got their mounts under the checker to claim $1,000 victories.

With temperatures in the mid 70's and sunny skies greeting the racers and fans a great daytime track surface was prepared by Path Valley owner John Winsett and the racers made great use of a multi-grooved speedway to put a well run show on for the many fans in attendance.

After dual heat qualifying was completed the Slingshots were the first feature to take to the speedway and Alex Schoffstall put the Billy Schinkel prepared 77 on the pole.At the drop of the green Schoffstall and Ryan Raidline swapped the lead spot in every turn until contact sent both racers to the rear after a lap 4 spin. Inheriting the lead was 2011 Slingshot National Champion Brett Bieber and he had to withstand pressure from Danny Buccafusca and Kyle Gruber who took a high line around the speedway getting his National Guard sponsored # 76 from 8th to third by lap 5.The yellow flew for debris on lap 6 and the restart green found Gruber now setting sail for Bieber as the pair were starting to distance themselves from the field with JR Fulper getting his 67 into the fold. With these three heading for podium finishes, the real battle shaping up was between early race leaders Raidline and Schoffstall for 4th and 5th.Bieber notched the MA SIlver Tour win with Gruber a close second as Fulper grabbed the third spot. Raidline got 4th as Schoffstall just beat Buccafusca for 5th.Rounding out the top 10 was one of the days heat winner's Ray Nemeth,Jr in the Herr's 101,getting 7th with Ray's brother Joe Nemeth getting 8th place money.A photo finish for 9th had Matt Miller, just ahead of Jordan Poirier, who ventured down from Canada and made his 10 hour ride home as a top 10 finisher.

The first of 2 twenty lap mains for the SpeedSTR's saw 2011 American Region champion Kyle Hieber bring the field to the green. The draw for the top 6 was done by giving your pick to another of the top 6 starters and Hieber was awarded the pole spot by SpeedSTR National Champion Yannick Poirier. Sharing the front row was 2011 WoO LM champion Rick Eckert. Hieber led the first 2 laps, but it was time for the York, PA resident, Eckert to show why he is a national champion. Eckert followed Hieber and was trying different lines on the speedway until he settled for the high side in turns 1 & 2 and the lowside in 3 & 4.This worked to perfection as he got passed the # 6 of Hieber heading out of turn 2 to become the leader on lap three. When the halfway sign was shown, the drivers became a little more serious and Gary Hieber passed his brother for 2nd as Anthony Perrego and Poirier were trying to stay in the top 5.Moving unnoticed through the pack was Steve Davis, who started last and was now 4th when the yellow was displayed on lap 13.Eckert had the Valvoline 3 comfortably ahead of the 56 of Gary Hieber as Davis got by Kyle Hieber for third with the laps winding down.Sixth through tenth would have to wait until lap 20 to get the final finishing spots as Paul Lotier,Jr, Brittany Wixon,Perrego,Hieber,Brandon Rahmer and Bobby Dmumchowski were running that close.Rick Eckert really enjoyed his trip to victory lane with the fans letting him know they appreciated his run.Gary Hieber and Steve Davis joined Rick for a top 3 photo. Yannick Poirier notched a strong closing 4th as Paul Lotier,Jr.got to the line ahead of Perrego.Wixon, Kyle Hieber, Brandon Rahmer and Dmumchowski rounded out the top 10.

The 30 lap late model main saw the top 6 lineup by a trade-off draw and George Dixon,Jr. was awarded the top spot and there was no denying him the lead at the drop of the green.A lap 1 yellow for Ron Kline regrouped the field and Dixon set a blistering pace as the field stayed clean and green as Sean Merkel challenged Dixon for a few laps ,but Dixon was hooked up on the bottom and Merkel was now focusing his attention on the upcoming Wes Bonebrake # 5 as the pair's ten lap run as 2nd and 3rd would end when Tim Fedder claimed third on lap 12 with his sights on the bigger prize. Tim Smith, Jr. had his # 39 flying as he was now third on lap 27 after starting last. Dixon would not give up the bottom and after 5 laps of passing flag use,it was apparent he was going to win or lose on the bottom. The white flag was shown and Fedder was aside of Dixon heading to turn 1,but Dixon got his break as Bob Dunn, one of the slower cars, washed up heading into turn 2 giving Dixon the lowside pass and staying in front of Fedder as they came to the checkered. Smith claimed third with Sean Merkel holding off Steve Bailor for 4th.6th through 10th were Andy Fries,Wes Bonebrake, Kyle Merkel, Bob Dunn and Ron Kline.

A 10 car invert greeted the 2nd 20 lap SpeedSTR field and therefore putting first race winner Rick Eckert 10th on the starting grid.Bobby Dmumchowski brought the field to the green and Brandon Rahmer stayed on the gas and the outside groove to get the lead on lap 1.The first 18 laps stayed green and Rahmer had a sizeable lead over second place running Paul Lotier,Jr. and Rick Eckert, but the action leading to lap 18 was nothing but exciting.Brittany Wixon had the Lee Wixon prepared 15 on the move and her battle with Anthony Perrego and Yannick Poirier was worth the price of admission alone. These 3 went 3 wide into turn 3 and Wixon went from 5th to 3rd and was becoming a race challenger. As the laps quickly passed by,Rahmer looked to be heading towards his first win in the SpeedSTR division as Eckert passed Lotier with the 2 lap sign waving. The yellow flew for Freddie Rahmer and Daniel Nadeau slowing the field and a single file restart due to less than 5 laps to go would be a green, white, checker run for the $1000 top prize.Rahmer kept his # 88 to the bottom of the speedway and withstood the first challenge by Eckert under the white, but Eckert took the # 3 to the top and the pair raced side by side heading into turn 3 and it was one turn left to decide who was taking the win and Eckert had some grip up against the outside wall to propel him past Rahmer and sweep the SpeedSTR Twin 20's.Rahmer was second with Paul Lotier,Jr joining the victory lane photo.Yannick Poirier mirrored his 1st race run with another 4th as Kyle Hieber rounded out the top 5.Perrego nosed out Gary Hieber for 6th as Brittany Wixon,Bobby Dmumchowski and Matt Dealaman passed under the checkered under a blanket for top 10 runs.

The day ended with a 50 lap Enduro as Randy Wenger took the win over Shyann Bard and Garrett Watkins.

The program was completed by 4 PM and the next date on the Big Kahuna schedule at Path Valley will the May 27th event with 358 sprints joining the SpeedSTR's and Enduro racers.

Kyle Beard Scores Top Ten at Springfield; Columbus On Tap For This Weekend

Trumann, AR (03/16/12) – A last minute change of plans last weekend saw Kyle Beard piloting his #86 Beard Motorsports/GRT/Samuels Performance Racing Engine Super Late Model to a top ten finish in the Turkey Classic at Springfield Raceway.

After seeing the 2nd Annual Pelican 100 postponed by rain at Ark-La-Tex Speedway (Vivian, Louisiana) last weekend the team made the last minute decision to enter the $2,000-to-win, Turkey Classic at Springfield Raceway (Springfield, Missouri) on Saturday afternoon. Twenty-eight entries took part in the event, and after starting sixth in his heat race, Beard would accumulate enough passing points to lock into the seventh starting spot for the feature event. In the feature he would race in the top ten for the duration of the event before registering a seventh place finish at the checkered flag. Full results are available at www.SpringfieldRaceway.com.

"I'm really liking this new GRT race car. I'm already starting to get comfortable in it, and I'm excited to get back in action with it this weekend," notes Beard.

This Saturday, March 17th the team plans to travel to Columbus Speedway (Columbus, Mississippi) for the 17th Annual James King Memorial. The facility has seen wholesale changes over the off-season, and the $5,000-to-win event, which will be sanctioned by the Mississippi State Championship Challenge Series (MSCCS), will serve as the grand reopening. Coleby Frye Releases Ambitious 2012 Schedule with New Team

Dover, PA (March 15, 2012) 'Superfly' Coleby Frye of Dover, PA has reunited with a familiar team for the upcoming 2012 season, as he will be behind the wheel of the Krenn Family owned #32 Rocket Chassis with sponsorship from Krenn Brokerage, Horstcraft Millworks, Kriner's Racing Engines, and Fryeco Inc.

Coleby will kick off his 2012 season in his new ride on Saturday, March 24 at Hagerstown Speedway. 'We wanted to have a diverse schedule', Frye said about his 2012 plans. 'We'll race mostly local to start the season but as the season goes on, we definitely plan on branching out to some different areas and tracks. We'll do travelling in both cars (Krenn #32 and family owned #F1) throughout the season, the further away from home we go, it'll be more likely to see us in our own stuff.'

Racing more is something that Coleby wants to do and climbing into the Krenn #32 will certainly accomplish that. 'This team likes to race,' Frye said of the Krenn Racing Team, 'I think we seen that while Dylan (Yoder) was driving for them, we have experience with the team (Coleby drove 11 races for them in 2008 with one win and four top-five finishes) and have always kept a solid relationship. This was an opportunity for me to race pretty much every weekend and still be able to race my own stuff at some of the bigger shows.'

'Getting more experience in bigger shows like the 'Dream' at Eldora Speedway, or the 'Firecracker' at Lernerville Speedway, events like that, is what we want to do,' Coleby said. 'We'll run those types of shows in the #F1 but we'll still be in the #32 when the Lucas tour (Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series) or the Outlaws (World of Outlaws Late Model Series) come to us. We'll also run the #U10 Limited Late (Owned by John Uhler and Gary Drake) at Bedford Speedway and Williams Grove Speedway on occasion.'

As stated above, Coleby will open his season, in the Krenn #32 at Hagerstown Speedway on Saturday, March 24 at Hagerstown Speedway in Hagerstown, MD. Frye will compete at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, PA on Friday, March 30 and Port Royal Speedway in Port Royal, PA. Coleby will then be in action at Selinsgrove Speedway on Saturday, April 7 before heading to Virginia Motor Speedway in Jamaica, VA for the $25,000 to win 'Commonwealth 100' sanctioned by the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series on April 13 and 14 in his family owned #F1.

Tyler Reddick Finishes 15th in ARCA Debut

Corning, California (03/15/12) – 16-year-old, Tyler Reddick made his ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards debut over the weekend in the ARCA Mobile 200 at Mobile International Speedway (Mobile, Alabama).

In the practice session in race trim Tyler was on the leader board all day as the fifth fastest car, and of the cars not in qualifying trim he was actually third fastest overall. In qualifications Reddick would record the 19th fastest time. While it was not what he and the team had hoped for, it was still an impressive performance in his first true, asphalt debut.

The 200 lap event threw several curve balls at Tyler and the #18 KSR/Broken Bow Records/Stoney Creek Records Chevrolet team. Early in the event Reddick would have to make three, unscheduled pit stops due to an over-heating engine. Without the unplanned stops Tyler would've been running in the top five on the restarts. Instead he kept finding himself at the very back of the field and passing, perhaps, the most cars of any driver all day. With the unneeded pit stops, Tyler was trapped on the track on a long, green-flag run with old tires due to putting fresh tires on during the second unscheduled stop.

Consequently, Tyler had to make the longer green flag run on tires with twice the laps of anyone else. Despite having older tires Tyler was consistently coming from the back of the field to the 13th position. Late in the race Tyler would finally fall a lap down with 120 laps on his tires, compared to 60-70 laps on the leader's tires. He would ultimately get the much-needed caution to put him back on the lead lap, but wouldn't get it until late in the event with just three laps remaining. He would restart 17th with three laps remaining and would go on to pass two cars to record a 15th place finish.

Overall it was a successful debut for the team, and Tyler commented, "All in all I had a great car and that kept us in the race. We were much faster than we finished, but the three pit stops just put us in a hole. If we had been fortunate enough to get a yellow around lap 140 to change tires I think we had a car that could've finished in the top three, but it just didn't happen. We finished 15th on the lead lap, without a single mark on the car. Overall I'm extremely happy with our performance, and I can't wait to get back behind the wheel of this hot rod at Salem Speedway next month."

Reddick is also quick to mention that there are many people to thank for this great opportunity. "I have a lot of great people, who are supporting me and helping me with this ARCA deal. I would like to thank Kenny Schrader and the KSR team, Jeremy Thompson, the over-the-wall crew from Kyle Petty Racing, Broken Bow Records/Stoney Creek Records, Jason Aldean and My Kinda Party, Federated Auto Parts, Hendrick Motorsports, Hoosier Tires, Bell Helmets, and IMPACT Race Products. It takes a lot to make this happen, and without any of their help I couldn't be doing what I love," notes Reddick.

Full results from the event are available at www.ARCARacing.com.

The team has opted to take the upcoming weekend, March 16th-17th, off from racing as they prepare to return to action with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) at Brownstown Speedway (Brownstown, Indiana) on March 24th in the 15th Annual Indiana Ice Breaker. More information on the event can be found at www.BrownstownSpeedway.com and www.LucasDirt.com

KAEDING FAVORITE SATURDAY AS WEST COAST SPRINTS OPEN AT TULARE WHERE BK WAS 3-FOR-4 IN 2011

Bud Kaeding returns to the Tulare (Calif.) Thunderbowl Raceway Saturday to open the 2012 USAC West Coast Sprint Car Series and is stamped as the overwhelming favorite after his 2011 successes at the one-third-mile dirt oval.

Kaeding won last Thursday night’s “Sin City Showdown” at the Las Vegas (Nev.) Motor Speedway dirt track, passing Ryan Bernal on the white-flag lap for the win. Last year at Tulare, Kaeding won in three straight starts and finished second in the series finale to Bernal, who ended up claiming the series “Rookie of the Year” honors. Bernal’s 2012 Tulare record included a win and three seconds.

Defending USAC West Coast Sprint Car Champion Richard Vander Weerd of Visalia, Calif. had a pair of podium finishes in last year’s five Tulare outings.

Kaeding’s Las Vegas victory earned him $2,500 as he polished off the USAC vs. ASCS “Grudge Series” field on the half-mile dirt oval. The race was the first of a special three-race series which carries its own point fund but does not offer USAC West Coast Sprint points. The remaining races are September 22 and 29 at Peoria, Ariz. and Santa Maria, Calif. respectively.

Other 2011 Tulare podium finishers included Peter Murphy, who had a win, Dennis Howell, who had a second, and Greg Alexander, Troy Rutherford and Jace Vander Weerd, each of whom had thirds.

Friesen’s Hundred Lap Providence TQ Win Sets Up Weekend Sweep; Redemption For Daley In Champ Karts

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (March 11, 2012) – Stewart Friesen backed up his Saturday night TQ Midget feature win in Providence, R.I.’s Dunkin Donuts Center with a rousing win the Sunday afternoon.  The race was halted three times before the 100th lap was put in the books and each time Friesen had to outrun Erick Rudolph and Joe Payne, Jr. to preserve his winning drive.

“The car was perfect and that was the difference,” said Friesen. “I had some help when the outside (of the track surface) got some water on it and it got slick for guys up there.”

Friesen was also the leader of the 50th lap of the race when the field was stopped as designed by race officials to allow for refueling and minor adjustments.  Drivers were able to restart in the second segment regardless of number of laps completed in the first half of the race.

Ted Christopher, who had been a contender in the first half of the event, pressured Friesen after working by Rudolph and Payne but dropped out of the event late in the going with mechanical problems.

Rudolph and Payne challenged Friesen anew over the final circuits but fell short.  Ryan Smith was fourth at the checkered flag and Jon Gambuti was fifth.

Numerous accidents punctuated the 100 lap TQ main event including one on the final lap that sent Chris Stockham and Timex Morgan plunging into the homestretch wall.  Despite the spectacular nature of the crash, neither driver was hurt although Stockham openly expressed his displeasure with Morgan’s crew  as he was exiting the track.

After enduring the indignity of a disqualification the night before, Champ Kart driver Chris Daley of Pleasant Valley, N.Y. was a man on a mission Sunday afternoon.  Bryan Shields, Anthony Colandro and Matt Fenn battled for the lead in the early laps of the event. Daley then from the pack to take the lead by lap nine.

“This is my redemption,” said Daley.  “It shows that that little bit of motor infraction the night before didn’t mean a thing.”

As the race reached its midpoint, Glen Meisenhelder moved into third place after Colandro and Shields both fell back and out of the top five. David Putnam was also on the move behind Meisenhelder in fourth spot.

Lapped traffic factored into the picture as Daley was clicking off the mid-race laps rapidly.  Meisenhelder and Fenn closed in on Daley but with five laps left, Meisenhelder was ensnared in a three kart accident triggered by lapped traffic, taking him out of the race.

On the final restart, Daley sprinted away.  The big gainer was Putnam who passed Fenn on the last lap to take second money as Fenn held for third.  Nick Hadden, who was outside the top five for most of the race, gained ground over the final three laps to finish fourth and Ron Midford, Jr. claimed the fifth spot.

This Sunday Indoor meet at ‘The Dunk’ was preceded by a full program of events the night before.  Stewart Friesen won the TQ Midget main event and Glen Meisenhelder took the big Champ Kart checkered flag.

#29 Bud Kaeding - Las Vegas "Sin City Showdown" Winner.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
USAC West Coast 360 Sprint Car Series

BUD KAEDING WINS $2,500 JACKPOT AT LAS VEGAS
By Lance Jennings

LAS VEGAS, NV – MARCH 10, 2012... Bud Kaeding of Campbell, California passed leader Ryan Bernal with two laps remaining to claim last Thursday's "Sin City Showdown" at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The first round victory of the USAC vs. ASCS "Grudge Series" earned Kaeding $2,500 for his efforts as the USAC West Coast 360s will head to Tulare this Saturday for the first point race of 2012.

With thirty-three cars in the pit area, time trials were not held and a passing point system was used to set the main event lineup. "Showtime" Danny Sheridan and Josh Pelkey led the field to the green flag and it was Sheridan that took command. Running the high line of the Las Vegas oval, "Showtime" was soon under attack from Pelkey and seventh starting Troy Rutherford. With drivers running three wide and searching for the fastest line of the tricky surface, Rutherford slipped past Sheridan to take the lead on the fourth circuit.

Ryan Bernal, last year's Rookie of the Year, quickly made his way to second from eleventh and pressured the former Ventura Champion. Finding the bottom groove to his liking, Bernal grabbed the lead two laps later and tenth starting Bud Kaeding soon challenged Rutherford for second. Ryan looked to put some distance between himself and the field as it was an all out battle for fourth on back between Sheridan, Casey Shuman, Charles Davis Jr., and R.J. Johnson.

Bernal steadily made his way through slower traffic as Kaeding gave chase. With the laps counting down, action was halted for Nick Aiuto who flipped his machine. Aiuto walked away uninjured and as the field lined up to continue the feature, track officials shortened the event. Now with only a few laps remaining, Bernal led the way with Kaeding on his rear bumper.

Kaeding had an excellent restart on the high side and shot past Bernal coming off the second corner. Taking the white flag, Bud continued to his determined drive and Ryan looked to close in. Kaeding bicycled his mount hard in between the first two turns and gathered his machine. Bernal could not take advantage of the miscue and as the racers flew into the third turn it looked to be all Kaeding. Coming to the checkered flags, Bernal had one last charge and surged off the bottom. In a photo finish met with a roar from the packed grandstands, it was Kaeding, followed by Bernal, Shuman, Rutherford, and Sheridan.

Piloting Junior Bowman's #29 Buster & Ziggy Enterprises / Kaeding Performance Bullet, Kaeding moved to second on the USAC West Coast 360 career win list, one victory behind Peter Murphy. The 3-time USAC Silver Crown Champion claimed third in his heat race and is among the favorites to watch all season. Kaeding had additional reason to celebrate at Las Vegas as his brother Tim won the companion World of Outlaw Sprint feature.

Making his first series start in Keith Ford's #73X King Racing Products / A&A Precision Machine Spike, Hollister, California's Ryan Bernal had to settle for a runner-up finish. The Santa Maria track champion was fourth in his heat race and led thirteen laps of the feature before falling to Kaeding. Look for this young driver to challenge for the series title in 2012.

Tempe, Arizona's Casey Shuman raced hard in the Shon Deskins Racing #21X Performance Transmission / Performance Plus Ellis to finish third after starting fifth. Now based in Indiana, the second generation driver claimed second in his heat race will have his sights set on victories across the country.

Troy Rutherford of Ojai, California came home fourth behind the wheel of his #11 Amsoil / Trench Shoring TCR. The opening night Ventura feature winner also scored the 8-lap Saldana Racing Products / Keizer Wheels Heat Race #2 victory and is a threat to win wherever he chooses to race.

Santa Maria, California's "Showtime" Danny Sheridan claimed fifth behind the wheel of Warren Dorathy's #21 WD Racing / Pace Lighting KPC. The USAC/CRA veteran driver won the night's 8-lap DJ Safety Heat Race #3 and will be racing closer to home in 2012.

Brian Hosford of Gilbert, Arizona got the action underway by winning the Extreme Muffler's Heat Race #1. Driving Bernie Weber's #32B Coffin & Trout Fine Jewelers / Invision Auto Body Maxim, the ASCS driver finished twelfth in the 20-lap "Sin City Showdown." Hosford will be looking for a breakthrough 2012 campaign.

Phoenix, Arizona's Justin Quinn won the program's SBI Fuel System's / Integra Racing Shocks Heat Race #4. Piloting the family owned #93 Four Peaks Hardwood Flooring / Lasting Impressions Ellis, Quinn scored nineteenth in the main event. Justin will be looking to move up the ASCS Canyon ranks this season.

Brody Roa of Buena Park, California claimed victory in the first 10-lap Semi-Main sponsored by Competition Suspension Incorporated and Diversified Machine Incorporated. AMRA Tech Inspector Training!
Moved to March 24: 1-4 p.m.

MT. ALTO, WV- The American Motor Racing Association (AMRA) has announced that it will hold its annual Technical Inspector's meeting and training session Saturday, March 24 at the race shop of AMRA competitor Robbie Evans near Mineral Wells, West Virginia. Veteran inspector Jason Roberts and veteran race driver and former AMRA inspector Ed Venham will conduct the training. All track inspectors or track representatives are to attend.
Venham brings a vast racing knowledge to the AMRA team as well as a respected voice that the AMRA thinks will bring solidarity to uniform rule enforcement. At this time plans call for Venham to be the roving tech inspector for the organization.
Initially, the tech training was slated for February; however, many tracks had not yet put their race night teams together. The date at that time was changed to the last week in March, but the AMRA found that the date conflicted with many area Test-and-Tune dates. In respect to the AMRA tracks and drivers wishing to participate in those test-and-tune sessions, the AMRA has moved the date to what appears to be a non-conflicting date.

Time for the event will be 1 to 4 p.m.
Directions to the Tech Inspector's meeting will be provided on the AMRA website at << www.amramodified.com    >> and will also be listed at the conclusion of this release. The AMRA modifieds must run Hoosier Tires, while the AMRA Late Models currently have an open tire rule.
The technical training for our inspectors will be held to more consistently enforce existing rules and clarify new areas of concern to preserve the fidelity of race cars and maintain a level "playing field" for all. The event will be restricted to all AMRA promoters and their technical inspectors. Tracks are welcome to send more than one technical inspector.
The weight break of 50# for steel non-adjustable, no-Schrader-valved shocks goes into effect his year in hopes of reducing costs and to entice competitors to run shocks that are dependable and less expensive. Also, GM Crate Engines have a weight break again this year.
The AMRA also noted that Crate Engines must have a legal seal, as authorized by GM. New crate engines wishing to get the weight break must have the GMPP seal only. "No counterfeit bolts, nor counterfeit seals will be tolerated."
Presenting awards in excess of $50,000 in prize money and $10,800 in contingencies, the AMRA crowned its 2011 champions at its 19th annual banquet at Cedar Lakes Conference Center last fall. Kenny Johnson, Mineral Wells, WV was the National Champ while Doug Henry, Beverly, Ohio, was crowned as the Modified Road Warrior Challenge Tour champion. Crowned as the AMRA Late Model Division champion was Chris Garnes, Evans, WV. Since 1993, well over half a million dollars has been awarded in prizes and point contingencies.
Directions:
From I-77 South, take the Mineral Wells exit, turn left on Rt 14 South for 2.3 miles. Turn left on Society Hill Road for 4/10ths of a mile. Turn right at the office on 141 Evans Avenue.
From I-77 North, take the Mineral Wells exit, turn right on Rt 14 South for 2.2 miles. Turn left on Society Hill Road for 4/10ths of a mile. Turn right at the office on 141 Evans Avenue.

Physical address:
141 Evans Avenue
Mineral Wells, West Virginia 26150

Octane Racing Products will be on board as a sponsor of AMRA in 2012 and will add $1000 to the AMRA National Points fund, again making the modified national points' $5000 to win. Octane will add contingency awards in random drawings at the banquet to racers displaying the Octane Racing Products decals.

STEWART FRIESEN WINS “COFFEE CUP CLASSIC”; MEISENHELDER NAMED CHAMP KART WINNER AFTER DALEY FAILS POST-RACE TECH; RACING RESUMES ON SUNDAY AFTERNOON

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (March 10, 2012) – Canadian Stewart Friesen passed Erick Rudolph of Ransomville, N.Y., for the lead on lap 38 of the 40-lap Coffee Cup Classic Indoor Three Quarter Midget race at Dunkin’ Donuts Center in Providence, R.I., Saturday to earn his first ever Coffee Cup Classic race win. The victory came after a thrilling side-by-side battle in an event that Rudolph had dominated.

The companion Champ Kart 25-lap main event was won by Glen Meisenhelder of Agawam, Mass. who had originally crossed the finish line in second place. When apparent winner Chris Daley of Pleasant Valley, N.Y., was disqualified by technical inspectors for an out-of-compliance engine, Meisenhelder was elevated, albeit belatedly, to victory.

Mike Lichty led the early laps of the TQ race until Rudolph took over. A succession of incidents and double-file restarts kept the pack tight. Lichty fell back and Friesen moved forward to challenge for the lead. As the race progressed, Friesen began to close on Rudolph in lapped traffic, eventually passing him with two laps remaining.

Rudolph finished second with Jon Gambuti passing Ryan Smith for third place on the final lap. The mover-and-shaker of the race was Ted Christopher, who started 25th and last in the field after fixing mechanical problems with his car just in time to make the call for the green flag. He finished fifth.

Meisenhelder and Daley exchanged first place several times over the last ten laps of the Champ Kart co-feature with heavy traffic keeping them bunched. Meisenhelder held the lead as the white flag, signaling one lap to go, was given to the pack. Off the last turn, Meisenhelder’s car bicycled momentarily and Daley sped by him to take the checkered flag first, by inches. Daley would subsequently lose the win in post-race technical inspection, by millimeters.

Daley’s disqualification also elevated Mike Perry to second, 2011 Champ Kart winner Bryan Shields to third, Anthony Colandro to fourth and Kevin Baird to fifth.

The second day of two-day TQ Midget and Champ Kart Indoor Auto Racing meet at ‘The Dunk’ continues Sunday at 2:00 p.m. with the running of the 100-lap TQ Midget main event and a second 25-lap Champ Kart feature. ISMA STAR ‘TIMMY J’ IS LATE PROVIDENCE INDOOR RACE TQ ENTRY; DUNKIN’ DONUTS COFFEE CUP CLASSIC GOES OFF THIS WEEKEND

PROVIDENCE, RI - (March 6, 2012) - A late driver change in the entry roster for the 2012 “Coffee Cup Classic” Indoor Race Weekend in Providence, R.I.’s Dunkin Donuts Center has the potential to affect the outcome of the races in a big way.

Tim Jedrzejek, an outstanding ISMA Supermodified driver riding out of Independence, Oh., has never raced indoors before. But the 42 year old competitor has impressive credentials.

The racing takes place on Saturday & Sunday, March 10 & 11.

‘Timmy J’ is replacing owner-driver Mike Dicely, Lewisberry, Pa., who last year had Ryan Smith, Kunkletown, Pa., steer his car to a close second place feature finish. Dicely had intended to drive himself this year.

The race meet format calls for two days of qualifying races and feature events for the powerful TQ (Three Quarter) Midgets and the bullet-like Champ Karts, culminating on Saturday with the running of “The Coffee Cup Classic”, a 40-lap TQ Midget feature, paying $2,000 to its winner.

Jedrzejek was ranked eighth in 2011 ISMA?Supermodified season standings, driving the Dan Soule owned car. He is a tested-tough veteran with great car control skills, qualities that should serve him well on the tight confines of the flat Providence arena concrete track measuring approximately a tenth of a mile in length.

On Saturday, March 10, racing begins at 7:00 p.m., one hour after the arena gates swing open.

One of Jedrzejek’s main competitors will be Canadian Mike Lichty, a past winner indoors at Providence and a fellow ISMA Supermodified campaigner.

New England favorite Ted Christopher, Plainville, Ct., is the race’s defending champion.

On Sunday, the feature for TQ Midgets is a first time event, to be run over a 100 lap distance with a planned mid-race break to allow teams to make adjustments and, if possible, to re-enter the race.

This all-new race format will place a premium on endurance and could tend to favor ISMA?Supermodifed drivers Jedrzejek and Lichty and Modified favorite Christopher, who are used to driing in longer distance races in open wheeled cars.

Racing begins at 2:00 p.m. preceded by ‘Fan Fest’, an interactive ‘meet & greet’ autograph signing session and photo opportunity for ticket holders. Qualifying races precede the features this day as well.

Though the TQ Midget drivers and cars will be running for the bulk of the prize moneyand attract the lion’s share of attention, the drivers of the lightning fast Champ Karts are exciting in their own right.

Bryan Shields, Bethlehem, Pa., is the defending champion of the Champ Kart Providence race but Chris Daley, Pleasant Valley, N.Y., was a winner month indoors in Atlantic City and has two “Dunk” indoor wins to his credit.

Tickets to see these stars, who are among nearly 100 cars and drivers in the Champ Karts and the headlining TQ Midgets in the Len Sammons Productions of Indoor Racing in Providence, are sale now by contacting the Dunkin’ Donuts Center Box Office at 404.331.6700 or Ticketmaster 800.745.3000.

Nick Dickson Set to Kick Off 2012 Season with New Chassis!

March 5, 2012 (Lewistown, PA) Nick Dickson of Lewistown, PA and Nick Dickson Racing have been prepping for the 2012 season that is scheduled to get started on Saturday, March 24 at Hagerstown Speedway in Hagerstown, MD. In preparation for the upcoming season, Dickson Racing recently purchased a brand new MastersBilt by Huey, switching from the Rocket Chassis that Nick has driven in the past.

'We were just looking for something a little different with our racing program,' Dickson said about the switch. 'We like how the attitude of the MBH cars and seen plenty of guys in the region have success in them, we just felt like it was the right time to make a change. We're looking forward to the challenge of having a completely different race car to learn about and really excited to get the season started.'

Nick's 2012 plans are basically the same as he's done for the past few seasons, competing in mostly local shows and entering many of the higher paying races throughout the region. Dickson plans to again run the entire Appalachian Mountain Speedweek in June as well as compete with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series, World of Outlaws Late Model Series, Three State Flyers Series, and the Unified Force Race Championship (UFo) Series.

'We like to keep our options open so we can race where ever and whenever we choose,' Dickson said, 'There's plenty of racing around in our area and it's easy to pick and choose where you want to go on any given weekend.' However, Nick's May schedule is still very tentative as his wife Paula, is expecting their second child at the beginning of May.

Dickson's 2012 schedule is set and is available to view at www.nickdickson17.com.

Gregg Satterlee Looks for Momentum after Georgia/Florida Speedweeks

Rochester Mills, PA (March 1, 2012) 'The Truth', Gregg Satterlee of Rochester Mills, PA kicked off his 2012 season in Georgia and Florida while entering events at Screven Motor Speedway in Sylvania, GA, Bubba Raceway Park in Ocala, FL, and Volusia Speedway Park in Barberville, FL. 2012 marked the first time Gregg started off his racing season during the GA/FL Speedweeks.

The trip started off with the two-day, $20,000 to win, World of Outlaws Late 'Winter Freeze' at Screven Motor Speedway on Friday and Saturday, February 10 and 11. After qualifying 21st fastest of the 56 cars to take time, Satterlee finished fifth in his heat sending him to a B-Main event in which he held off Seaford, DE's Austin Hubbard and Thompson, PA's Dan Stone for the win and to transfer to the main event. Gregg would finish the 'Winter Freeze' in the 27th position after dropping out of the event just after the halfway point.

After a few days off for some sight-seeing and vacationing, the Gregg Satterlee Racing team were back in action on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday February 16, 17 and 18 at Bubba Raceway Park for the 'Bubba Army Winter Nationals' sanctioned by the World of Outlaws Late Model Series. Satterlee got off to a quick start during the first of three events at the Ocala, FL 'D' shaped oval, timing in 11th fastest of the 51 entries setting up a third place finish in his heat race transferring him into the $8,000 to-win main event. Gregg battled his way to an impressive fifth place finish from his 11th starting position.

Satterlee wasn't as fortunate on Night Two of the 'Bubba Army Winter Nationals', after qualifying 12th out of 52 drivers entered, Gregg would finish sixth in his heat race putting him into a B-Main where he would finish 12th and fail to transfer to the night's $10,000 to-win feature event. On the third and final night at Bubba Raceway Park, Gregg set the eighth fastest time in qualifying and transferred on to the $12,000 to-win main event by virtue of a third place finish in his heat race. Satterlee went on to capture his second top ten finish of speedweeks, with a tenth place finish.

Gregg then ventured over to Volusia Speedway Park in Barberville, FL for the 42nd Annual 'UNOH DIRTcar Nationals presented by Summit Racing Products'. Satterlee started his week at the Volusia County oval on Monday, February 20, timing in third fastest in his group before finishing second in his heat race behind race winner Jonathan Davenport of Blairsville, GA. Gregg's second place finish put him 11th to start the night's $7,000 to-win main event but Satterlee faded to a 20th place finish.

The rest of the week was uneventful for the Gregg Satterlee Racing team as despite excellent qualifying efforts, including being 11th quick during Thursday night's $10,000 to-win WoO event that had 78 cars entered, Gregg was unable to register another A-Main start. 'We had an up-and-down speedweeks,' Gregg said about his first speedweeks, 'It was definitely a great experience for me as a driver and us as a team. Racing against the huge car counts at all of the places we went to and some of the best fields we could see all year in Dirt Late Model racing, gave me and our race team some much needed experience.' Satterlee continued, 'We've raced against these guys in the past but never on a night in and night out basis like that, we had some solid qualifying efforts and had some strong finishes but overall, we'll take the lessons we learned while racing against those guys and we'll continue to grow and get better. Hopefully with the laps we were able to turn down south will help us when racing starts closer to home.'

Another positive that came from Satterlee's voyage to Speedweeks was receiving an informal award for 'Best New Graphics Scheme' by Todd Turner, Managing Editor at DirtOnDirt.com. Gregg's new Black/Blue design was designed by himself and printed by Zero Wraps located in Indiana, PA.

Gregg's upcoming schedule has not been planned out yet but fans can keep an eye on all of Satterlee's whereabouts' on his website, www.greggsatterlee.com.

ACCORD SPEEDWAY NEWS

Accord, NY - Accord Speedway Honors 2011 Track Champions At Annual Awards Banquet
By Steve Pados, Accord Speedway Media

The favorable winter played into the hands of Accord Speedway Promoters Gary and Donna Palmer over the past weekend as they rolled the dice a bit and changed up both the date and the venue for the eleventh annual Accord Speedway Banquet and Awards ceremony on Saturday evening for the Ulster County racing facility. The Brookside Manor located in Middletown, New York, provided this year's setting for the annual awards event as the Palmer family completed another successful racing season at their racy quarter mile speedplant nestled within the valleys of the Catskill Mountains. A crowd in excess of 325 people filled the huge banquet facility as the Wednesday night Midweek Madness divisions and the regular Friday night racing divisions were honored for their performances in another great 2011 racing season that saw the whims of Mother Nature curtailing some of the hot racing action but nevertheless was another successful in the history of the speedway that dates back to 1962.

After a sumptuous dinner and dessert, the evening's production commenced with an action packed video depicting the diverse racing action from all of the divisions at the speedway. The opening video was another production from Tri State Studios guru Jason Yaniga with support from track photographer Kevin Berryman. Emcees and track announcers Steve Pados and Joel Murns took to the stage to begin the awards presentations that began with the Wednesday night Midweek Madness series that enjoyed a solid eight week run in 2011. All champions and place finishers were awarded trophies or speedway plaques for the very successful season at the speedway. Miss Accord Speedway Erika Decker assisted in handing out the spectacular hardware and awards to all of the speedway's champions and place finishers with KB's Racing Photos Kevin Berryman, the official speedway photographer, capturing the highlights behind the lens.

Quad Champions honored included Kenny "Bubba" Phillips and "The Little Torch" Melissa Torchio. The Kids Kart champion Blake Hulseapple, Kart Junior 2 Champion Tanner Correia, Kart Lites Champion Steve Cooper and Kart Heavy Champion Gary Huston were on hand to collect their respective hardware. The Senior Slingshot Championship was captured by West Milford, New Jersey driving talent "The Gunslinger" Jesse Leiby. Carly Dippel and Matthew Shultz were tied in points and honored as the Rookie Slingshot Co-Champions and "Kid Ice" Cole Hentschel captured the Junior Slingshot division title. John "Little" Davis in the Junior Fireball Four Cylinders and Walt Henry in the Senior Fireball Four Cylinders captured their first speedway titles to complete the awards winner for the Wednesday night divisions

The Friday night headline division presentations quickly followed. Beginning with the alternating divisions of the Lightning Sprints which saw Connecticut hotshot Peter Dance collect his first speedway title and Legends Champion "The Flying Dutchman" Richie Van Orden collect his first speedway title as well and set the stage for the speedway's five regular divisions to follow. Chub Frank Off To Encouraging Start In 2012 After Solid Season-Opening Trip

BEAR LAKE, PA – March 2, 2012 – Chub Frank is ready to make his return to Victory Lane on the World of Outlaws Late Model Series.

The veteran standout from Bear Lake, Pa., made that perfectly clear during his season-opening racing trip to Georgia and Florida. With one especially powerful performance, he proved that his frustrating checkered-flag drought on the national tour will soon come to an end.

Frank, who celebrated his 50th birthday on Jan. 22, made a serious run at victory on Feb. 23 in the first of two 50-lap WoO LMS A-Mains contested during the 41st UNOH DIRTcar Nationals Presented by Summit Racing Equipment at Volusia Speedway Park in Barberville, Fla. After recording the third-fastest lap around the half-mile oval in time trials and winning a heat race, ‘Chubzilla’ drove off the outside pole in the feature to lead laps 1-27 before being overtaken by eventual winner Dennis Erb Jr. and ultimately settling for a third-place finish.

“I’m tickled with how we ran,” said Frank, whose last WoO LMS win came on Aug. 22, 2009, at Atomic Speedway (then K-C Raceway) in Alma, Ohio. “We want to win, but we’ll take a top-three finish. For Volusia and the points race, that’s good.”

Frank was the highest-finishing WoO LMS regular in the Thursday-night event – the only Outlaw traveler to crack the top six spots, in fact. Racing on a heavy, extremely fast racetrack, he said his Corry Rubber/Hino Toyota/Horton Equipment Rocket No. 1* was just slightly off the necessary setup to repel Erb and runner-up Scott Bloomquist.

“I couldn’t get through one and two. I was horrible in (turns) one and two,” said Frank. “I could make it work if I hit it just right, but I was trying to cut across the bottom and I was just too tight so it would wash out. (Erb’s) car rotated really good.”

Armed with powerful Roush-Yates Ford engines for his 2012 action, Frank sees in his future many nights similar to – and better than – his third-place outing at Volusia.

“These Roush-Yates Fords just run great,” said Frank, who made the switch to Roush-Yates engines late last season. “They have plenty of power and that’s really helping our qualifying. We’ve struggled in that department the last few years and that’s put us behind, so we’re hoping to get some better consistency there.”

Unfortunately, Frank wasn’t able to duplicate his Thursday-night performance in Volusia’s WoO LMS finale on Feb. 25. Problems during Friday night’s DIRTcar UMP-sanctioned program – he dropped out of a B-Main due to a broken rearend – created issues with his car on Saturday. He had to use a provisional to start Saturday’s headliner and managed just a 19th-place finish.

“When we broke that rear on Friday night it did something that messed the car up,” said Frank, who jumped into his bright orange-colored backup car for Friday’s 40-lap UMP feature thanks to a provisional spot but retired early and was credited with a 28th-place finish. “The changes we made made the car drive better (than Thursday), but it didn’t have traction like it did on Thursday night.”

Frank entered the UNOH DIRTcar Nationals – during which he also recorded DIRTcar UMP-sanctioned feature finishes of 22nd on Feb. 20 and 15th on Feb. 21 (he didn’t qualify for the event that was postponed by rain to Friday afternoon, Feb. 24) – having already run WoO LMS events at two other tracks.

The tour’s 2012 campaign began on Feb. 10-11 with the inaugural $20,000-to-win ‘Winter Freeze’ at Screven Motor Speedway in Sylvania, Ga. Frank struggled in the lidlifter, driving his bright-orange machine to a quiet 17th-place finish in the 60-lapper.

Frank was solid and steady when the WoO LMS moved on to Bubba Raceway Park in Ocala, Fla., for the first-ever ‘Bubba Army Late Model Winter Nationals’ from Feb. 16-18. He finished eighth (started seventh) in the 40-lap A-Main on Feb. 16; seventh (started 25th) in the 50-lapper on Feb. 17; and seventh (started ninth) in the 60-lap finale on Feb. 18.

Chubzilla’s run in the 50-lapper at BRP was especially noteworthy. After a heat-race incident forced him to park his distinctive orange machine, he used a provisional to start the A-Main in his white car and promptly drove through the pack. He advanced far enough to bid for a top-five position late in the distance.

Frank ended the busy of February ranked fifth in the WoO LMS points standings, 86 points behind leader Darrell Lanigan.

Next on Frank’s racing agenda is the $20,000-to-win WoO LMS ‘Illini 100’ on March 30-31 at Farmer City (Ill.) Raceway.

John Garvin Jr. Returns from Georgia/Florida Speedweeks

Sarver, PA (March 2, 2012) Former UNOH All Star Late Model Series Rookie of the Year John Garvin Jr. and Copperhead Racing made what has become an annual trip to the Georgia and Florida Speedweeks. Unfortunately for Garvin, the trip that started out very promising at Screven Motor Speedway in Sylvania, GA took an ugly turn when the team reached their final destination of Volusia Speedway Park in Barberville, FL.

Garvin Jr. kicked off speedweeks by setting 13th quickest time out of the 56 total entries at the World of Outlaws Late Model Series sanctioned 'Winter Freeze' at Screven Motor Speedway on Friday, February 10. From there John would finish a strong second place in his heat race behind Winfield, TN's Mike Marlar, transferring him into the $20,000 to-win main event. After starting eighth in the 60 lap feature, Garvin Jr. battled his way to an impressive 14th place finish giving the team some confidence heading into the 'Bubba Army Winter Nationals' at Bubba Raceway Park in Ocala, FL.

On Thursday, February 16, Garvin and his Garvin Scrap Metal, Graff Trucking, Sarver Landscape and Garden Supply, JNJ Motorsports Media, Daugherty Motorsports sponsored Rocket Chassis arrived in Ocala, FL for the first of three nights at the 'Bubba Army Winter Nationals', that was also sanctioned by the World of Outlaws Late Model Series. John timed in 17th quick of the 51 cars to take time but ended his night early after tagging the wall in his heat race. 'For rest of the trip, the car was never the same,' Garvin said after his brush with the wall. 'Copperhead' failed to qualify for another A-Main event while competing at Bubba Raceway Park or at Volusia Speedway Park in Barberville, FL the following week.

'Volusia was super fast all week long and it took its toll on a lot of drivers and their equipment,' Garvin said of the UNOH DIRTcar Nationals at VSP. 'We ended up being one of those drivers after we hurt our motor on Tuesday night. We decided to pack up and head home after that to prepare for the rest of the season and to not tear anything else up. It's a long year and we didn't want to get behind this early in the season. We learned a lot while we were down there about our new Rocket Chassis that will hopefully step up our program when the season really gets rolling.'

Garvin Jr. has tentative plans to head to Mercer Raceway Park in Mercer, PA on Saturday, March 31 for the UFo sanctioned 'Chiller Thriller' as well as possible trips to Tyler County Speedway in Middlebourne, WV before the season gets to be in full swing.

THE STOEHR KIDS ARE READY TO CHALLENGER FOR CHAMP KART WINS IN PROVIDENCE’S DUNKIN’ DONUTS CENTER

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (MARCH 1, 2012) - If racing talent is hereditary, then three teens from southeastern Massachusetts may have an edge when they get to the Dunkin’ Donuts Center in Providence, RI, on Saturday & Sunday, March 10 & 11 during the Len Sammons Productions Indoor Races.

Kathryn, Bethany, and Avery Stoehr are fourth generation drivers whose family has experienced a great deal of success in auto racing. The trio will compete in the Champ Kart division during the two-day racing event.

The weekend race meet includes two days of qualifying races and feature events for the powerful TQ (Three Quarter) Midgets and the bullet-like Champ Karts, culminating on Saturday with the running of “The Coffee Cup Classic”, a 40-lap TQ Midget feature, and paying $2,000 to its winner.

On Saturday, March 10, racing begins at 7:00 p.m., one hour after the arena gates swing open.

On Sunday, the feature for TQ Midgets is a first time event, to be run over a 100 lap distance with a planned mid-race break to allow teams to make adjustments and, if possible, to re-enter the race.

Racing begins at 2:00 p.m. preceded by ‘Fan Fest’, an interactive ‘meet & greet’ autograph signing session and photo opportunity for ticket holders. Qualifying races precede the features this day as well.

Ted Christopher, Plainville, Ct., is the defending champion of ‘The Coffee Cup’. ‘TC’ won the preliminary night TQ Midget feature race at Atlantic City’s Boardwalk Hall last month.

Kathryn, an 18 year old senior at Bridgewater-Raynham Regional High School (BRRHS), and Bethany a 17-year old junior, are the daughters of accomplished Midget racer Greg Stoehr.

Avery, their 15 year old cousin, and freshman at Old Colony Regional Technical School in Rochester, MA, is the son of multi-time Northeastern Midget Association champion Russ Stoehr.

The kids’ grandfather Paul was a longtime Midget driver and great-grandfather Bill was a noted mechanic.

Each will compete in family owned go-karts in Providence. All three will be making their indoor racing debut. But, none are strangers to go-kart racing.

After watching the event for several years, the kids decided to “get involved” in 2012.

“It was Dad and Uncle Russ’s idea,” said Bethany, who was quick to add “there was no opposition from us.”

“We thought it would be a good experience to try it at least once,” added Kathryn.

The trio had energetic but realistic goals for the indoor races in Providence.

“I just want to qualify and make a heat race,” said Kathryn, acknowledging that there could be 40+ karts vying for 24 starting positions, “and ultimately make the feature.”
“My goal is the finish well and have fun,” said Bethany.

“I want to make the feature,” said Avery with an air of confidence. He did add “having fun and finishing the race with the car in one piece” to his list of goals.

There was a quiet but evident camaraderie between the cousins. When asked if he would cut his cousins any slack if they needed it during competition, Bethany quickly chimed in just as the very soft-spoken Avery was shaking his head “no”; to say “we never did for him”. The competitive spirit is alive and well with the Stoehrs.

Knowing that the level of competition in the Champ Karts will be stiff, when posed with the question, who is the racer to beat, the quick-witted but shy Avery answered “anyone who is faster than me”. He added with a sheepish grin, “I gotta try to finish in front of someone”.

Avery and his cousins have had their fair share of finishing in front.

Avery started in karts at Seekonk Speedway and at Tiverton (RI).

“He won a bunch of races at both tracks two years ago,” said proud papa, Russ.

Looking for a change of pace, Avery headed to Route 106 Race Park in Pembroke, NH. There he won his first adult WKA Senior Champ event. In 2011, Avery posted seven (7) victories in 14 starts to win the WKA championship.

Not to be outdone, both Kathryn and Bethany have each posted an impressive list of victories at Seekonk and Tiverton. The girls also have a winning record at Sugar Hill Speedway in We are, NH, where they cut their teeth.

Both Kathryn and Bethany cut their teeth racing go-karts at Sugar Hill Speedway in Weare, NH. Avery acquired his seat time competing at go-kart tracks in Tiverton, RI, and Seekonk Speedway on Friday nights and 106 Speedway in New Hampshire. They have all competed in Stafford Motor Speedway’s ultra-competitive Tuesday night kart program.
During the 2012 season, Bethany will run full-time in her family-owned NEMA Lite. Big sister Kathryn will take some time off from her position as crew chief for her father Greg (in NEMA) and sister Bethany in 2012 to run a limited schedule in the Lites for car owner Jen Scrivani. Avery will also run full time with the NEMA Lites in 2012.

The Stoehrs will compete on Saturday and Sunday, March 10 &11. Tickets to the see this trio and a host of others in the Champ Karts and the headlining TQ Midgets in the Len Sammons Productions of Indoor Racing in Providence are sale now by contacting the Dunkin’ Donuts Center Box Office at 404.331.6700 or Ticketmaster 800.745.3000.
Each of the 52 TQ Midget and 42 Champ Kart available slots are gone, assuring a full, quality laden field for both races.

For a complete race schedule, log on to aarn.
