Delaware International Speedway Releases Tentative 2008 Schedule

Delmar, DE…..The Delaware International Speedway has released the tentative 2008 schedule. The tight half-mile clay oval speedway is located on the Delaware Motorsports Complex, Delmar, DE. Along with the circle track, there is a one-quarter mile asphalt strip. As you enter the grounds, the U. S. 13 Kart Club Track is located just on the right before the strip and oval. The complex is located on U.S. 13 Highway, just a half- mile north of the Delaware-Maryland state line, and 30 minutes from the beaches.

The Cathell family is gearing up for the 2008 season, to put on some of best shows in dirt track racing. First off, the drag strip will start Test-N-Tune on Sunday, February 24, 2008, March 2 & 9 are two other Test-N-Tune dates; if the weather is permitting. Gates open at 11 AM, testing is 12-5 PM. The first ET Racing will be March 16, and the point’s battle will begin March 30, 2008.

The speedways Test-N-Tune is scheduled for Saturday, April 5, from 6-9 PM. The season opener gets underway Saturday, April 12. It’s the United Racing Club Sprints sixty-first strong year and is set to appear for first time on April 19 at Delmar. The touring sprints are scheduled to appear seven times this year, that’s around once a month. The URC Sprints schedule can be viewed at www.urcsprints.com. The sprints always pull off some fast speeds, up 106 mph in qualifying and up to 104 mph in features. Be sure to make your way to see them.

The William J. Cathell Memorial Race is the following week on April 26. Charlie Cathell and his father are the founders of the speedway and that race night is dedicated to Wm. Cathell. The family has been in business for more than forty years, that says a lot in this day; it’s a very special night.

One big show will be the World of Outlaws Late Model Series (WoOLMS) with a return to the clay track. The 2008 WoOLMS season kicks off on Feb. 14 and 16 during the 37th annual Alltel DIRTcar Nationals at Volusia Speedway Park in Barberville, Fla. There will be live coverage on DIRTVision.com ‘Cybercast’.

The WoOLMS are scheduled to race at Delmar, Thursday, May 29, 2008. It will tie in with NASCAR Dover race weekend May 30, 31, and June 1. If you’re at Dover for the races, come see some fine dirt racing where racing roots began on dirt. The touring series has some of the country’s best, Super Late Model drivers. They’re fast, sleek, and full of power. The Delaware local drivers go up against the WoOLMS and stand their ground. Its one of the best shows you will see in dirt racing in Delaware. The Delaware State Police and Camp Barnes, Inc will hold the grand 36th Annual Delaware’s Camp Barnes Benefit Race on Wednesday, July 9, 2008. It is a benefit race with all the proceeds going to the camp. The drivers really support the race.

It is an important benefit; the camp gets most of their donations for the camp by this benefit. The camp has structure interactions to aid 10-13 year old youths with less than fortunate circumstances to be able to attend the Camp Barnes Campground. The camp provides numerous benefits to youths learning several tools to use in everyday trades and to aid the youths at no cost to the parent or guardian. Your support can make a difference in a Child’s life. This benefit always makes it an honor for the drivers to help and contribute in what they do best. And that’s to put on a show filled with all kinds of hot dirt track racing.

The Little Lincoln Vintage Stock Car Club will turn up some mighty impressive racing during the season. Those guys race with all their heart and won’t give either one of themselves a break. They only race 10 laps, but it pure side by side, wheel to wheel action. The first show of the “Blast from the Past” racing will be Saturday, May 3; always a fan favorite. Visit the clubs web for a complete schedule at www.littlelincolns.com. The older Vintage Cars are also added to the schedule a few nights this year.

The US 13 Kart Club Track have posted their schedule on www.dekarting.net. The first club race is Friday night, March 28; a practice night of racing starts March 14. The first WKA sanction race for the state Delaware Dirt Divisional Series (DDDS) is the following week, but on Sat., April 5. The club will hold three state races at the Delmarva Motorsports Park this year. The time for state races has changed to open gates at 12 PM, Registrations 12-2 PM, Practice start 4 PM, the past two year the DDDS started at 7 AM; Club races gates open 5 PM, registration 5-7 PM, Practice 7 PM. The club will end the season with two benefit races this year. There will be two memorials for two drivers they lost last year; Ralph Moore, and Kyle Dixon.

That’s a little the start of what we have to look forward to this year. Racing will be here before we know it. NASCAR is just a matter of days to start, then the dirt starts.
