Delmar, DE.....That’s right, the racin’ season will be here before we know it. The Delaware Motorsports Complex has released the 2012 season schedule for both the ¼ mile Dragway and ½ mile Speedway circle track. The complex is located on Sussex Hwy, (Rt. 13), in Delmar DE, just 1 mile North of the Mason Dixon Line (Delaware & Maryland state line).
The schedules promise to be full of action for both tracks. The Dragway will start the first of 2 sessions of test-n-tune on Sunday’s March 4 & 11 with Mother Nature playing nice hopefully. Gates open at 10AM. The first of E. T. Brackets will begin on March 18. For those running for points for in the weekly divisions begin the week of April 1. The complete schedule can be viewed on the tracks web site at www.delawareracing.com. Updates will be available on the tracks race line 302-846-3968, too.
The ½ mile circle track will have the first test-n-tune on Saturday, April 7; gates open at 5 PM with practice from 6-9 PM. It will be free admission for spectators in general sitting area. The season opener of racing action begins on Saturday, April 14, 2012 with the 5 weekly divisions, NAPA Big Block Modifieds, Super Late models, the crate classes for both the AC Delco Mods, and Crate Models (late model), along with the Mod Lites for a full night of action.
The season opener will also begin with ‘Delmar Nite’ where anyone with a Delmar ID such as a driver’s license will be permitted free admission into the general seating stands. That’s quite a good deal, and a real good opportunity to come see racing if you have never been. Also the opener will have the Little Lincoln & Southern Delaware Vintage Clubs. Both divisions preserve the history of racing in a “Blast from the Past” fashion to continue the tradition of what we have advanced to in today’s racing. Both classes really put on a good show just as in the past.
The following week, April 21, will be the Kyle Dixon Memorial & Slide for Five. Kyle Dixon was a senior and a young racer killed way to young on Jan. 4, 2008. Dixon raced in karts and was making the transition to the big track. The Delmar High School lost 2 seniors that day. The celebration of Dixon’s life continues with many other fund raisers to honor him in several different ways by his family & the Trice family and friends each year.
Finally the last race in April is on April 28, and it will be the William J. Cathell Memorial Annual racing night with the first appearance of the powerful URC Sprints for 2012. It’s also the celebration of the founder of the Delaware Motorsports Complex some 49 years ago. In today’s’ time this is quite an accomplishment for any business to survive. Plus to have such a premiere facility for these forms of racing tracks really shows how evident and important motorsports is on the shore.
This is just a tidbit of action to come all season long. The World of Outlaws Late Model Touring Series will return Thursday, May 31, 2012. The Camp Barnes Annual Benefit Races is Tuesday night, July 10. Tickets will go on sale later for any special races so keep checking the tracks web www.delawareracig.com for details on any event at the tracks. The office phone # is 302-875-1911 open M-F 9-4 PM. Also please note the tracks email address has changed to firstname.lastname@example.org. Also follow us on Twitter and Like us on Facebook for the latest news posted.
Camp Barnes Benefit Races up close with the Super Late Models division with Kenny Pettyjohn, Kevin Scott Jr. and Hal Browning.
Some other dates to keep in mind are June 23 for the The 2 vintage classes will run just about once every month during the season. The Delmarva Chargers will run this year again as they made a quite a hit on the schedule last year. The Slide for 5 will also return. Several different types of racing return with “Topless Night”, “Twin 20’s” for both Modified & Late Model classes and more. Mooneyham Memorial/Salute to Hal Browning; July 14, Tony Steele Vintage Car Memorial with 5 weekly divisions as well.

The URC Sprint has slowed down their schedule with fewer dates this year at Delmar with dates of April 28, June 30 & September 1. The URC series will visit the states of Pennsylvania, New York, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia and New Jersey as URC celebrates their sixty-fifth consecutive season.
