Ricky Elliott June 16, 2006 Georgetown Speedway

Georgetown Speedway Will Run Friday, June 30, 2006

In spite of all the rain the east coast has received since last weekend and several areas flooded including Georgetown, DE, all systems are go for this Friday, June 30, 2006 racing at Georgetown Speedway. Much of the area has had severe damage from flooding that many have never seen in our areas. It will be a project of repair for quite sometime on the roads alone, not to mention homes, businesses, etc damaged.

Georgetown Speedway will be running Super Late Models this weekend along with the two TSS crate motor in the Modifieds and Late Models that run at Delmar and Bridgeport tracks. The crate classes will be running with 20 lap events. Winners of those features will take home $500, and $100 to take the green.

Last time the late models ran Ricky “The Rocket” Elliott commanded the track with some awesome racing between Elliott, Kenny Pettyjohn, Scott Cross, Richard Jarvis, Jr., and Ray Kable, Jr. Although the drivers he passed, no one had anything for the way Elliott was running. But the best part was watching him work through the pack after starting 10th. Elliott made it look like a piece of cake, with such ease, but powerful force at the same time. Wonder who will invade this week? The super lates will run a 25 lap feature with $2500 to the winner, and $200 to take the green.

The Little Lincoln Vintage Racing Club will make their debut on the track, for first time in a long while. The Little Lincoln racers were to race last weekend but Mother Nature would not stand for any racing in Delaware. These guys put on a great show when they race at Delmar. So I am sure it will be just as exciting to watch these guys run. All the cars are 57 Chevy’s or models of that era. The cars run just as hard as the other racers with some great side by side and wheel to wheel action. They commonly try to run 3 wide at Delmar, so who knows what they will do on the big ½ mile clay oval. Should be interesting to see?

Gates open 5:00 PM, Drivers Meeting 6:30 PM, Warm ups 7:00 PM. Gate admission is only $10, 12 year old and under free, and the Pits $25. Track hotline is 302-856-7415; fax 302-856-7416. Check the tracks web at www.georgetownspeedway.com  or www.redbud69racing.com  for any updates.

Also, the Delaware’s State Police Camp Barnes Benefit races will be Wednesday night, June 12, 2006, at the Delaware International Speedway; and rain date of July 13. A lot of drivers support this event and have for years. This year will mark the 34th Annual running of this event. You don’t want to miss that event and help support the state police. More information will be out on the benefit soon.

Keep checking on www.redbud69racing.com  for any updates on DE tracks. Also, I want to send out sincere prayers and thoughts to Chuck Buchman and his family for a speedy recovery and time to heal. Buchman was seriously injured at Bridgeport Speedway June 17, while driving for another owner in the BB Mods. Buchman has been racing at GT since it opened placing an 8th & 9th place finish; he usually runs the TSS Mod class at Bridgeport and sometimes Delmar (DIS). See you at the track!

All Systems Go! Looks Like Mother Nature Will Not Win This Week!

Since Georgetown Speedway, Georgetown, DE, got the final okay to run the speedway, only one event has gotten in. Opening night on May 26, 2006 the weather was a little if-ee but, the track was able to pull if off and pack the stands and have some really great racing going on. Especially, considering it was all put together fairly quick, and a success.

Since that night, promoter Lou Johnson secured a sponsor to include an additional feature added to the regular night of racing this week. Each Friday after that the Late Models and Big Block Modifieds will alternate appearances for a 25 lap feature along with the two TSS crate classes racing.

The Big Block started the grand open, so Late Models would be on the schedule next. But with Johnson having sponsors come forward to support the additional feature this Friday, the Big Block Modifieds return right back after opening night.  Both classes will get to run on the same night this week only.

Yet, Mother Nature has attacked every Friday night since opening night.  But this week, Friday, June 16, you better hold on!  Why? Because the forecast is calling for a sunny Friday and clear night this week.  You can bet a great deal of fans and drivers can't wait, along with me to see some more racing on that big half-mile oval.

That's right! This Friday the Georgetown Speedway will have 4 full classes running on the track. Both Super Late Models and Big Block Modifieds will run a 25 lap feature with $2500 to the winners, and $200 to take the green.

The TSS Modified and TSS Late Model crate classes will be running as well with 20 lap events. Winners of those features will take home $500, and $100 to take the green.

Opening nights winners were Billy "the kid" Pauch in the BB, Brad Trice TSS Mod, and TSS Late Model Rookie Ross Robinson. Bet the kid can't wait to come race there. Everyone will be packing in the stands to see some of the best racing in Delaware on that big wide oval. Don't miss out! The weather looks great, so come on over to the newly reopened Georgetown Speedway for some good dirt shows.

Gates open 5:00 PM, Drivers Meeting 6:30 PM, Warm ups 7:00 PM. Gate admission is only $10, 12 year old and under free, and the Pits $25. Track hotline is 302-856-7415; fax 302-856-7416.
