For the second straight year, Dale Earnhardt Jr. was voted the Pillsbury

Statement by NASCAR Chairman and CEO Brian France Regarding Sprint Nextel
Merger: NASCAR is excited about the merger opportunity for
its friends at Nextel. Nextel’s leadership has built an outstanding
company and successfully served its millions of customers. “Once the merger is completed, the company will
have greater resources in technology, services, and the ability to reach its
customers. All of this will benefit the NASCAR relationship and will provide
NASCAR the opportunity to reach new fans nationwide. “NASCAR’s premier national series will continue
to be known as NASCAR NEXTEL Cup in 2005 and will build on the outstanding
success of the 2004 season. NASCAR’s 10 year agreement remains in place and
all of NASCAR is looking forward to great success in the years to come.” NASCARMedia.com

Buy a Tree for Dale: If you’re looking for a truly unique gift for
that special someone this holiday season, you can now give them their very
own Sycamore or Tulip Poplar tree growing kit from Dale Earnhardt’s North
Carolina farm, or you can plant trees in their honor in the Dale Earnhardt
Forest. In April 2004, The Dale Earnhardt Foundation and American Forests
announced a partnership under which the Foundation will provide American
Forests with an initial grant in support of plans to establish the Dale
Earnhardt Forest . The initial phase of this national project will be the
planting of 77,000 trees to restore Charlotte-Mecklenburg County area
forests damaged by storm, disease and development. The new trees will
provide substantial environmental benefits such as cleaner air, erosion
control and wildlife habitat. More info at the

Wallace wins Snow Ball Derby: Steve Wallace survived an
accident-marred race and a series of challenges from 2004 ASA Champion,
Kevin Cywinski, this evening to claim victory in the 37th annual running of
the Snowball Derby, the crown jewel of southern short track racing. The 17
year-old Wallace started from the third position and first took the lead on
lap five of the 300-lap event. Despite challenges from Cywinski and run-ins
with several lapped cars, Wallace was able to persevere and capture victory.
The win in tonight's event was the first for the Wallace family. Wallace's
father, NASCAR legend Rusty Wallace, was never able to find his way into
Pensacola's victory lane, despite a series of runner up finishes in the
all-star event. The younger Wallace's uncle, Kenny, made several
unsuccessful starts in the event as well.(RWI PR) more info at

WELCOME, N.C. (Sept. 22, 2004) -- Robby
Gordon has been placed on probation by Richard Childress Racing (RCR) for
the remainder of the 2004 NASCAR Cup Series season. "Many athletes
have made mistakes in their careers and would take back the negative things
they've said or done if they could," said Richard Childress, president and
CEO of Richard Childress Racing. "As a result of his actions last weekend in
New Hampshire, I have placed Robby on probation for the rest of the season.
"I would like to apologize to all of the fans, the media, and the teams. I
also would like to publicly apologize to Cingular Wireless for being placed
in this situation. If there is one positive, I think this can make Robby
understand that there is more to racing than just being aggressive. In this
sport today, one action can affect many people's lives on the track and
beyond it, as well." Gordon will conduct a press conference at 8:30
a.m. EDT Friday, Sept. 24, in the infield media center at Dover
International Speedway. RCR press release

- Wimmer gets NASCAR probation also:
Nextel Cup rookie #22-Scott Wimmer has been placed on probation by NASCAR for
the remainder of the season after being convicted of driving under the
influence. Wimmer pleaded guilty and received a year's probation and a
requirement to do 24 hours of community service. He was allowed to keep his
driver's license. NASCAR also plans to require Wimmer to do some sort of
community service. "We're looking at some different things so Scott can get
the message out so that it will help others not put themselves in the position
he put himself in," said NASCAR spokesman Jim Hunter, adding that NASCAR and
Wimmer have worked together since Wimmer's arrest on Jan. 31. "We feel he has
accepted responsibility for his actions and is truly remorseful."

- When the day is done, the 2005 Nextel Cup

then go to Atlanta Motor Speedway the following Sunday. That pushes the races
back at those two tracks one week later than this year. Darlington's
only Cup race in 2005 will run on May 7, the night before Mother's Day.

- Six suggestions for green-flag finishes
from DW: here are a few suggestions from Darrell Waltrip rhat could be
discussed so that in the future races could finish races under the green flag:
1) Yellow light on dashboard: When NASCAR flips the switch to turn on the
caution lights, a light on your dashboard comes on. [done in ARCA and IRL]
2) Caution laps don't count: wouldn't count caution laps during the last five
to ten laps of the race.
3) No green-white-checkered: just tears up equipment, don't like stopping
races.
4) Race to the flag with five laps to go: Inside the last five laps, you race
back to the flag, and you don't count caution laps.
5) Positions based on last green-flag lap
6) Stay the course: the races run their natural course and finish without any
outside intervention from anybody. For years and years, we finished the races
under caution. If you check the records, you'll see yellow-flag finishes make
up a very small percentage [15% in 2003/2004 combine in Cup]. See the full

SAFER causing re-measuring of tracks?
Size does matter -- especially when it comes to racetracks. And
with the SAFER barriers installed at many NASCAR
tracks, the dimensions of the circuits have changed. "We're going to have to
re-measure all the tracks where we've put in the SAFER wall," says Jim Hunter,
V.P. of corporate communications. "I don't have any idea how it will affect
it, but I'm sure it will affect it to some degree." The SAFER walls at
Darlington come out 30 inches from the outer wall. NASCAR measures tracks 15
feet in from the outer wall, but it doesn't expect changes in dimensions to be
significant enough to affect records.

What is a "Darlington stripe" Slang term for
the black marks resulting from scrapes with the wall at the 1.366-mile track

Suspect Noses? Evernham Motorsports
Dodges qualified first [#9], sixth [#19] and 10th [#91] at Las Vegas, and
other teams were suspicious about what advantage the Evernham crews had found.
Rival manufacturers took pictures of the noses to examine the changes. The
competitors discovered the noses were designed to offer greater downforce in
the front and rear. "It's totally legit," one competitor says. "It's so simple
it makes you mad that you didn't come up with it." Although the Evernham cars
were constructed completely within the rules, chances are NASCAR will develop
a new body template that defines that nose area.(FoxSports/Sporting
News), while walking along pitroad before the race, the #9 and #19 cars
had the noses/grill area coveredd up and didn't remove the covers until after
the two cars fired up and just before the left pitroad.

Rusty Farewell Tour? #2-Rusty
Wallace's farewell tour could be the 2005 season, according to the team.(Winston
Salem Journal), of note, XM Satellitte - NASCAR Radio's Claire B. Lang,
interviewed Wallace over the weekend about the rumors that NASCAR was
suggesting older drivers go part time, Wallace said he has no plans to run a
part-time schedule and when he leaves, it will be full-bore, meaning no
part-time deal. Wallace is also very excited and happy about his new Bsuch
Series team, RWI, running Billy 'Catfish' Parker in the #66 Duraflame Dodge in
a limited 2004 Busch
Series schedule. Jayski.com3/8/04

- Rusty Wallace has been winning to NASCAR
the last few years about needing a softer tire, and shock changes and so on
the likes. Finally, this year it seems that maybe Rusty got a few wishes. From
what I have read and heard, I have been hearing about the new tire, and today,
Rusty was fastest in morning practice and the Happy Hour. The cars are more in
the drivers hand as it should be. Also, the Daytona was not all aero and the
restrictor plate racing, the drivers got to show their colors. I am glad to
see it, and maybe Rusty will get his win and end this winless streak.
